I found this in the classifieds, contacted the seller, worked out a date to pick it up and brought it home today. The owner said if he had not found a buyer it was going to the scrap yard because he wanted it gone. He was having issues with the motor and didn't have time to deal with it. Timing was just right because my wife said she wanted a riding mower because she doesn't like my zero turn and was ready to shop the big box stores. The motor is a box of parts and the deck needs some repair but I will make it whole again and get it mechanically sound. This intent is to make it a dedicated mower. Work on this one should start in about 2 weeks. The seat is in very good condition and will be replaced and maybe passed on to someone.

Making key racks! I was kind of overwhelmed at the show from all the people asking me about my key racks. Unfortunately I only had three with me as I ran out of time making them. Once I get those sorted out, the rest of these will get posted in the classifieds.

Happy Wednesday Afternoon, Wife and I took a roadtrip today, left house right around 6 am. Stopped at a nice fellas house by the name of Josh in Elizabethtown PA. He was acting as the middleman between Jason and owner of this restored C120. Josh also mentioned he runs the Lebanon PA winter show in February--he says its all indoors and 6 or 7 buildings. I may have to look into going... Then onto my GT2500 in Jacobus (York) PA... met an equally nice gentleman by the name of Keith Kauffman. Walk down to his garage and there sits a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda 4 speed!!! Dang!!!! He recently just put a 408 stroker small block in it and has the original 340 on stand. On way out of town I looked up the dealer that had placed there dealer sticker on the Briggs shroud and found them. I stopped in and asked the gentleman if he'd like to come out and see one of his tractors head north. He came out and started talking... then took me for a short tour and told me about the list of every tractor they ever sold until Toro took over in 1986. What a cool old dealship... they didnt have any shift boots but I bought a 7473 8 speed drive belt to get him a few bucks. I told him about Redsquare and the big show and that he should look into going---the shop is about an hour away. Now its onto dinner with wife and then heading home tomorrow. Tony

Saw this posted on CL yesterday. I called an hour after it was posted and was the 3rd caller. Just as well as I have too many projects. Any idea what year it is? Does it appear to be original, other than color and tire rims?

They should be slapped & sterilized to chlorinate that gene pool... paint it pink with red polkadots, that's OK. Just not JD colors...

Not me - this time. I did buy a rather decent C81 roller from them. Dropped off a load of scrap, worked that into the deal.. The C81 cost me less than $40 !

Try this but not sure it will work. Remove the spark plug so you can turn the engine over by hand. Take the ignition wire off the ignition switch and connect one ohmmeter lead to it and the other lead to a good battery ground. I think you should see the .6-.7 ohms when the points are open. Should go to 0 ohms when the points are closed. Slowly turn the engine over and see if the opening and closing of the points changes the readings. Usually with this problem there is oxidation on the point contacts so when they are closed they do not make electrical contact. This results in the primary résistance staying at the .6-.7 ohms.

I saw this machine posted on a gentlemans personal Facebook page for sale . I kept on saying I don’t need another 🙄 . Few weeks go by after tossing it around, and then @Docwheelhorse rings me and says I’m heading to Pennsylvania do you need anything out that way . So low and behold I bite the bullet, and am sure glad I did . One of the nicest C series I’ve had .Thanks a lot Tony !

Good save. Those K241's are great engines, and easy to rebuild. Same block as the K301. Lots of cylinder to work with if it needs to be bored. Do you have all the other engine parts? I see a bearing plate, stator, and carburetor. Hopefully you have a flywheel and all the tins. And that seat. Worth more than some tractors.

Installed a dust collector/reclaimer on my blast cabinet. Seems to work really well but I think I need a new gun, air hose and coarser media than the 80 grit I’m using now. Takes a long time to do a small piece. I’ve got the air pressure to the gun between 80-90 psi.

It's been 3 years since this tragedy. The DA came to us (family members) this spring that Reed wanted a plea deal for life in prison instead of the death penalty. We agreed as long as it included "Without the possibility of parole". That sentence avoids any possible future nonsense with appeals and stalling. Well, the sentence was passed down earlier this year. He finally made it to his new prison home not that long ago! Today I got word that the life of misery has begun with a bang and he was beaten hard enough to end up in the hospital. At 24-25 ish years old he has a LOOOONG way to go through that horrible life of misery but I'm glad to hear he is finally being punished. Some of you guys met my brother Jim at the show one year when we built a tractor from a gutted roller and got her running driving by the end. He used that tractor too. Not sure what ever happened to it.

I figure that seat has served its time working and belongs on a restore for a show tractor.

That yard does NOT part the tractors out - you buy it as-is. They are my #2 choice to bring scrap aluminum cans to (RI does not have a bottle bill). Last check, she was paying 8 CENTS a pound for cans - my 1ST choice pays 25 cents.... Aluminum is a commodity, prices fluctuate seasonaly and due to supply / demand...

Tony sounds like a great trip. I think this owner kept all those names of customers shows some pride of what he has done and of Wheel Horse.

Nice! I haven't been road (or paved trail) biking since I took a rolling spill at high speed a few years ago. I have mountain bike and hiking trails here on my own property that I've been sticking to. Not to try to "one-up" you on the trestle, but it made me think of this one which is not very far from me. Our daily in the house temp is anywhere from 68⁰ (not often) to mid 70s over the summer. It's the dry air that's counts more though. We have a sleep setting for 60⁰.. I've learned in no uncertain terms over the last few years that temperature comfort is everything.... and non negotiable...

Remnants of Beryl. Dewpoints of 75° + temps in the 90's All the chillers running flat out and not keeping up. Tornado warnings but nothing popped. I believe the 417A was made in 1986 only. ALL Kohler Twin 17 HP engines original to a 417A are series 2.

Serial number 24300 or higher would be a Series Two, below 24299 is series one.

7473 - Kohler single cylinder powered 8-speeds 7478 - Kohler single cylinder powered Auto 106496 - Twin cylinder Auto 107939 - Twin cylinder 8-speeds These are all on the on-line parts list for 1980 C-165 8-speed but no applications listed.

Drinking the gas from the water bottle too! LOL It's a bit ironic how he so easily decided for the death penalty of 3 others yet wished to cowardly escape that same fate for himself. Even if he actually wanted the death penalty, it would still be my position that life without parole is a harsher punishment in this situation. Had he been some big tough gang member or someone that could more easily survive prison life then the death penalty sentence probably would not have been so easily avoided. I'm banking on the theory that there is [still some] honor among thieves and the killing of innocent women and children is strongly frowned upon. Death row inmates are more isolated from general population. Yes he could still be gotten too but being locked in a cell for 23 hours a day doesn't serve as much misery as being the prison b!t(h for 20 hours a day. IMO The death penalty can always be revoked. It can always be appealed. It also requires a trial by jury so there is always a chance someone somewhere somehow screwed up the investigation or did some ridiculous mundane thing that has zero to do with the crime but legally allows for some kind of concession. Not to mention the stress of a court trial and listening to all the gory details involved with the murders. The plea deal avoids ALL of that with zero chances of ANY more nonsense down the road. It cannot come back to haunt us 10,15,20 years down the road so it's really a no brainer. Not to mention death would be an easier way out for him and I'm not so sure he will survive that long anyway. Either way the healing can begin now because of closure.

I replaced the slotted screws that hold the tension plates on my 1075 with slightly longer Allen head screws with small flat washers to get a little more tension.

@AlexR on that trans flush ( recommended ) after initial drop , drain , would also jack up the front end to enhance drainage . been using a hi mileage ATF fluid for refill and some drive around time , like miles , days of use , the more it gets to fling around and flush down , the more it cleans flushes , also like to use every gear , forward reverse , you probably will have to do this a couple of times , new shift boot , after a clean drain , 75x90 gear oil is good , personally like a " climbing gear oil " at final drain and refill , think its much smoother / easier shifting , also get after related clutch linkage with an aerosol penetrating oil , to make the rust run out , then a red grease on every related linkage point . lots to do on that , pete

Don't spin the engine over. Just turn it slow in the normal direction as the points are not open for very long so your tester will miss it. You have to get the 0 ohms with the points closed. or it will not run.

Nice score especially with that seat! Surprised you don't want to keep it on there, I would guess your wife might want something more comfortable?

The deck needs a little work and the motor had an issue. Said it would sputter and load up so it was removed to be rebuilt but he never found a shop to do the work. My son is going to take care of the motor for me. This one will be a dedicated mower so I will replace the seat and pass this seat on to someone doing a restoration.

Removed the Lawn-Boy push mower wheels from the deck on the 401 and installed a set of correct new old stock replacements:

Well it was still hot in the sun but a slight breeze rolled through, I got the seat I picked up from big show 2023, finally mounted on the diesel. I used FASS diesel fuel pump brackets the rest of the GT14 tins and whatever hardware i had laying around.. Seat is not completely centered but itll work for the LIAPA show and pulls

It’s been a while since Poppy ran. I gave him a bath, cleaned the points and spark plug, and he fired right up.

Today’s adventure: pedaled 14 miles this morning before it gets too hot/humid. That train tressel pictured on the plaque would have be awesome to see! I pedaled over it but as you can see it has been filled in.

One thing I do realize is harboring hate can rot a person from within. It's not a healthy thing to have inside you. But for now it's very tough to forgive something like that and a crime like that does deserves punishment. Had it been an accident or something, that's different. It's something I'm working on among many others things for self improvement. And just like anything else, There is ALWAYS room for improvement. Maybe time can heal enough for forgiveness or maybe it won't, who knows. It's not me that is worrisome so much as what it did to those other 5 kids. That's what bothers me the most about all of this. It was certainly a pleasure meeting you in person Stefan. It's always too short of a time down there.

Have you been into a manual transmission? Easy peasy. Tear it apart. You'll have plenty of good help here. If your thread bore is straight but just pulled out you may be able to go up a thread size in half-dog set screw and call it a day.
