Worked on getting that tiny brake shaft seal out of the 551 trans. Poor eyesight and the heat didn't help. Decided to check out the new HEP Sales showroom and got a new sharp cobalt 1/16" drill bit. A couple of precision holes and then used the smallest wood screw I had. Grabbed it with my vise grip pliers and out it came.

Mine, just the opposite... "Do you offer a senior citizen discount here???"

I bought these From @Darb1964 when I picked up the 1067. He had one and half sets. So I thought It is a nice day let’s put them on. This my Garage Queen never sees rain snow or anything else. This is what started me on Start/Gen tractors. All was my favorite model to have a close second was the TEN because at one time I had a few. I hope you enjoy the picks.

If you have a starter button, the key switch only has to feed power to the coil. It should not be carrying cranking amps.

If you remove the tie rod ends from the pivot arm be careful and do not over tighten the nuts when you reinstall. That cast iron pivot is brittle you can break it...don't ask how I know that...

The Federal Railroad Administration - Railroad Safety Board stopped by for an unannounced inspection today at the Sylvan Lake & Wheel Horse Northern RR... Apparently, there are millions of new regulations to accompany the new Green Deal for electrification of our nation's railways and they are picking on the small pathfinders - on the tip of the spear so to speak... You know, regulations to guide and assist... Well the SL&WHN RR passed with flying colors after i explained to the inspector that there was a Bourbon named after the RR... He was very impressed - with the bourbon - and he had me assist him in filling out the inspection form after he "tested" the bourbon a few times... All i needed to do was post this sign, and promise to keep a bottle on hand for future visits...

General Hardware No. 55. Makes a hole from 1/2" or so up 8". Depth is just shy of 3/4" I used it to make an oval shaped hole in the barn wall for an AC warm air vent. Takes a light careful touch with good speed going.

When the farmer across the road from my parents passed away and the farm was surveyed prior to sale. This property6 had been handed down for three generations and not surveyed for seventy years. There was a twenty foot discrepancy on the west side and eighteen feet on the east. The point of origin was the point where a creek entered a lake and a couple large Elm trees had been used as turning points. Dutch Elm disease had killed off all of the elm trees in the '50s. The farms on both sides had also been handed down over the years with no recent surveys. Both were surveyed and none of the boundaries lined up. Ultimately the dispute went to the judge and he called in my mother and three other people who had lived there for over fifty years. He had an areal photo of the property covered with a clear plastic sheet. Each was asked to draw lines where the Dixon Farm boundaries should be, they all drew lines where the stone fences were and those became the official property lines.

That's probably a Magneto engine and it requires a ground to shut off. You've probably lost ground connection to the ignition switch or, you have a bad ignition switch. Does the backfiring occur at any other time?

Actually a partner in the law firm of "Haggle, Dicker, Barter, Cheatem, Rippemoff and Howe"... I use only the first three partners and avoid those last three...

Those push button switches are heavy duty designed to carry big amperage. Used on most older Farm tractors some of mine are over 50 years old still working.... No need to mess with a solenoid that is another potential failure point.

Well, i will say one thing. This thread has been good reading. Having now entered into the 95/5% stage of thought, (5% retention), the info in these articles made me look differently at the machines (the 5% part). Engineering marvels! Every tractor has a story. And most stories should have a tractor. Richard, what a wonderful out come. A good thing coming from a bad situation. Nice.

@JimSraj broke my right wrist many years ago , was setting up some piping for another small area , shop, went for the second step on a 8 ft ladder , next thing I was on my back on the floor , no pain but the 45 degree angle said it all , up until that had no accidents on my file . had lots of mechanical related opportunities for a problem . pete

Normally I would too. I needed a 3-3/4" hole and didn't have a hole saw for that.

In the press is the only way I use mine. For cutting large holes with a hand held drill, I use hole saws.

One of these days I'm gonna have a go at fabricating one out of steel. I need a replacement for one of my D's.

Absolutely understandable. I picked this up a year or three ago and hadn't used it for a real purpose yet. Whatever reason I had for purchase must have been done by other methods. This bit would certainly be more friendly in a drill press but I had to get down low on a wood wall.

Took the 953 to local ice cream establishment. It's only about a mile & half away. Got plenty 👍 from vehicles along the road. My girlfriend walked there. She said people were smiling when I pulled up??? Told her they were probably laughing at me! I really don't care........

Put a tach & gps speedo on rat rod. Wanted the "old school" look on the hood but with modern gages. And fortunately everything works!

Got the 401 up and running and gave it a bath , first time it's been cleaned since we've owned it and the first time it's moved under it's own power in at least 35 years.

You take that EB? Triplets are very rare what say you @Ed Kennell I have seen at least four different sets of twins both at home and up north. Thinking the very mild winter is the reason.

@ebinmaine is most likely correct. My dad's did this a few years back and the wire from the ignition switch to ground the ignition out had broken. I'd find that and check it out.

They are just like ever thing these days, you have about a 50% chance of getting a good one. I don't think price or where it was made makes much difference.

Me? If/when I need another fuel pump I'd go electric.. and good brand. Carter P4070 or Facet 60245 A little pricey but worth it.

I suspect that Wheel Horse used high strength angle iron for the frames, especially as they built more and more tractor on the same frame.

Definitely a factor--getting 6ga wire to have an efficient and solid connection through a tab-and-socket connector is nearly impossible. Even the screw-on connectors can be flimsy and failure prone. That was the decider for me “switching" to a solenoid with its big, fat studs!

I got the dash parts and the grill surround in today. The grill has had some repairs done but I will be cutting that out.

One of my uncle's lives just at the edge of a small town in Iowa on a farm. There is a residential street that dead ends on the end of one of his fields maybe 200 yards from his house. A while back, he was having issues with squirrels in his yard. One Saturday morning, he was 'addressing' one of the squirrels. Just after he took his shot, he noticed a guy at the end of the street frantically throwing a shovel into a wheelbarrow loaded with dirt, and running it down the street back to his house. Poor guy thought that the crazy farmer was shooting at him 'cause he was stealing a bit of dirt. Uncle Jim got a pretty good chuckle out of that one.

The good old days of Carb cleaner back in the 70's and 80's. If you stood over that gallon of cleaner and marveled at how clean the carb was, the fumes would burn the hair off of your carcass! I remember cleaning an electronic Quadrejet in the 15 gal carb cleaning machine we had. One of the metering needles was small enough to fit thru one of the holes in the basket. I had to "fish it out of there. My arm was red and blistered for over a month!

I have 2 of those from my Dad when he passed. Different sizes. I remember using them as a kid. They also work for -.125 aluminum.

I'm a big fan of the ultrasonic cleaner. I've put everything in it from hot water, degreaser, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, mineral spirits, alcohol.....it all depends on what i'm cleaning, but the I'm a huge fan of the ultrasonic cleaner in general. For cleaning carbs, I usually just use the concentrated heavy duty simple green but mix it on the strong side. It has never let me down

Order the PF engineering plans. The $85 is money well spent and well worth eliminating much of the design guessing, math and drawing circles to figure it out. Build it over time as you get a chance to work on it and acquire parts. The plans can be modified to fit your needs as well. https://pf-engineering.com/micro-hoe-plans One mod I would definitely do if I was to ever do one again would be to angle the stabilizers back at a 45 deg angle instead of straight out the sides. ( I ripped them off doing the electrical trench ) There were also ideas of making the hoe arm extend. And although I had all the hydraulic parts and steel to do it, it just never happened. The other mod I wanted to was to add a high torque hydraulic motor to spin a Stickler log cone splitter. Basically just split logs from the seat by poking them with the Stickler cone right on the ground. No lifting or moving logs to a splitter and the loader can be used to collect them into a manageable pile

General number 4, 3/4" to 5". Haven't used it since Mr Jig invented his saw about 50 years ago.

The bushing was hardened and cleaned up well. I gave the grease a little pathway to find itself to the bolt if it were pumped excessively, and gave the rest of the front end a well deserved grease job while I was at it. The excess got pressure washed off after work was completed.
