The show has been hot this year. My shower felt great, but I was a sweaty pig by the time I got dressed to walk back to camp! @wallfish hooked a brother up and left us a radon pump and told us to get creative for some air movement. This is what @Tractorhead and I came up with. It was quite dark by the time we hung this, so as I wake I marvel at our magnificent work Thanks for keeping it cool John! I actually zipped my sleeping bag up a couple hours ago!

I’ll be sure that @Coulter Caleb sees this tonight (Thank you Uncle Jim for tagging me). I can’t believe this guy is 20 years old today! He is an awesome guy whom this daddy was blessed to parent for years and now I enjoy a great friendship with him. He currently is working as an apprentice in a custom cabinet building shop and enjoys disc golfing as a primary hobby. Caleb still owns three GT’s including: Comanche (the 854 pictured above), JackRabbit (a cool 418-C) and Grizzly (a heavily modified Cub 107). He also really enjoys his GTO. He grew up around mine… (here with his momma at a drive in back when he was about a year old) visiting GTO nationals around that same time and going to numerous shows over the years in my Goat. Then two years ago today, he had the opportunity to purchase this machine. It needed some work but supplied us with a TON of father/son memories. Caleb behind the wheel, me in the co-pilot seat and Judge, Zach in the back! We have family in town for Claudia’s open house tomorrow and so I’m sure we will come up with something fun to do as a family to celebrate this guys departure from his teen years. Thank you to those of you who impacted Caleb over the last decade that we have been part of the Red Square forum. He has so many special memories from kindnesses shown to him throughout the years from this community.

Eric Van Loock one of the original members of the first Wheel Horse Show in 1999 at the South Mt. Fairgrounds in Arendtsville will be at the show today. He drove up 15 hours from Mobile, Alabama! He will be at my canopy some time today too.

Here is a squirrel cage blower driven by an old engine working at giving a group of vendors a breeze on a very still, very hot day! I made sure to walk in front of it a couple of times as a “test” of its effectiveness and can report that it does the job.

LEDs are the way to go! Just make sure you make a ground jumper between the hood and frame to prevent flickering.

My new muffler deflector with louvered outlet has arrived. I got it for $3.50 CDN ($$2.19 US) so I am very happy with this.

I found the photo of my Father's homemade tractor he made in the 1960's. The picture was taken close to it's retirement sometime around 2012.

Yea Friday morning is the best. I was down all day today and I'll be down all day tomorrow and vendors sold a boat load of stuff today!

Got in a quick test today. I'm not changing anything! It works great, though there will be a bit of a learning curve. Hardest thing so far was making my brain work out the foot control on the hydro vs "feathering" the hydraulic lift. Practice should fix all of that. Two things I've figured out so far: big difference in moving gravel vs smoothing it. How anyone could use one of these on a manual lift is beyond me. I guess the extra weight of my blade has its drawbacks. I fixed two places today in my driveway. The entrance at the road was the worst, but after basically transferring one side of the driveway to the other, it's good now. The other was the stutter bumps in the curve behind the tractor below. All good now! Only complaint I have is the gravel accumulates on top of the pivot, so you have to knock it off to keep rocks out of the garage! And the 523-H is now officially a worker!

Excellent Sparky, Im going to have to make to the "Show" one of these days. cafoose is picking up a Wheel horse tub cart from Docwheelhorse and hauling it back to East TN for me so I do have that to look forward to.

Clean it up and see what it’s going to take to get it running first. Then a light refinish. It will never look as good as yours. Sorry I missed you at the show. Enjoyed talking to your brother.

to the forum. As Eric says, it is easy to add lights. If you choose LED lights, you will get better results connecting them to the battery, as the battery will give a 'cleaner' D.C. source than the output from the voltage regulated on the engine. Good luck and have fun with your tractor.

The Kohler K series I gave John Deere a Bad reputation with the Model 317. Later 317's or Dealer replacement engines were Kohler K series II and eventually Onan engines. The series left such a Bad taste In Deere's Mouth that when the closed Frame 300 came Out 316, 318, and 420, Deere went to the Twin cylinder ONAN as the Primary Power Plant for the air cooled Garden tractor with a Twin cylinder engine. They stayed with the Kohler Single cylinder In the 200 series until 1987. After 1987, there would be Very few Kohler engines In General Used By Deere Until they Introduced the Sabre Line. Deere started using Kawasaki engines In the 1988 and newer 200 series. It really wasn't Until the GT225 was Introduced In 1999 did Deere go back to using a Kohler in their Name Brand Garden tractor's.. To a Point I would say the Deere design department still mistrusts Kohler 40 some years Later . The Series I was fine If You Had a Flat to gradual Hill Yard Many Manufacturer went to the K series II and offer replacement engines for tractor with the K series I for several years which Kohler would foot the Bill on. My Main House property I could probably run a Kohler series I on and Have no issues with it . My Vacation House I bet a K series I would die on because of the 4 steep Hills

When MTD bought the Cub Cadet line, they kept the production and the design for a few years. That having a KT17 Series one engine makes it an earlier 782, probably making this a complete IH design, even if MTD owned CC at the time of build. One of the first things MTD did in the CC line on the garden tractors is replaced the cast iron transmission with weaker, light aluminum cast transmissions. But that 782 probably has a bullet proof transmission regardless.

Gonna keep this one close too. Big dry doe. Probably going to be tasty after cleaning off my sunflowers. Plants were about 2 ft tall. Note how close to the house. Definitely gotta cull the herd come fall.

I usually go Saturday because I like going with my dad and this is a terrible time of year for him to take days off work. He's retiring in January, so I might have to just start taking Show Friday off. I already don't use all of my PTO in a timely fashion most years.

I think @stevebo was out in his truck at 2:30 AM revving his engine!

Ok. Thanks everyone. It is a black hood. I downloaded a manual. It says it can be pushed at a walking pace, so I'll give that a try. There is a lot to go through on this one. I'll need more help, I'm sure. Very grateful for all your help.

Absolutely! It was great to meet @Handy Don, @Pullstart, @squonk, and @wallfish today (thanks to Pullstart's nifty flag). This is a truly fantastic event, with acres of Wheel Horse everything! I started the day out wandering in the wilderness from tent to tent - "Excuse me kind sir, but I'm looking for a transaxle for a '75 C-120 Hydro?" Most common answer: "Oh, I've got one of those back at home, but I didn't bring any transaxles today." (Variant: "we brought a bunch of those last year, but no one looked at them, so we left them home.") In one of the barns at the back, I came across a vendor with a pile of stuff on the ground marked "FREE." Lo and behold, there was my transaxle (with hydro assembly as well). At least I'm 99% sure its a match, but the price was right and the hubs turn! I plan to start the transplant this weekend. Thanks to @Achto for initially pointing me to this event, and to everyone else for their encouragement. I could not have imagined that there was such a treasure trove of parts available -- in addition, I have collected a number of business cards for future reference, and from a couple of those folks who "have one at home" just in case there's any issues with the one I got. Will keep you posted with updates to this topic.

Wandered around the BS trying not to buy stuff I thought was cool but really, really, really don’t need or have space for! I saw a LOT of tires and wheels being hauled away and I saw a couple of tractors change hands. Not quite as many sellers today but maybe there will be more tomorrow. Admired (and should have grabbed a picture of) a very large squirrel cage blower running off a 10 hp motor cooling off one group of sellers!

The owner of the cracked gear case stopped by where @wallfish and I are set up and explained he’d found a spanking good deal on a complete transaxle so he is in a good, good mood!

Kinda hard to see but the pedal end of the spring is hooked to a cotter pin. The backside pin that it's hooked to goes down from the top like the one on this side thereby providing spring loading for the trip lever.

Norman sitting at the Quality Inn, waiting for tractor friends to come by… A sweet set of RJs, I missed who’s. Dinner plans got a little messed up. A big group of blue hairs took our Italian Village table, so we had to scramble a bit. Right down the road @buckrancher, Mrs. Buckrancher, Bryon, Stephan and @Handy Don and I found some good hearty home cookin’ at Hickory Ridge. TWINNING! Fellowshipping with the friends

For sure. If you were looking for a worker 8-12hp 8-speed there were plenty to choose from at fair prices. If you were willing to do some work, there were bargains. Heck, some guy even managed to sell a snowmobile on one of the hottest days of the year ( @stevebo )

Still looking for this guys brother. Called him in a couple years ago.

Here is my C175 twin Predator. Had this engine for about a year and was looking for something easy to put it in. And this thing was way easier than doing the Sears that i started doing. Only hard part was machining back of pulley so it would slide on crank and line up with the belt. I just stuck it on the engine backwards with it running and hit it with a flap disc lol. Worked. Bought the exhaust pipes off ebay and flipped the muffler around, it was not fun testing with it shooting towards you let me tell ya. Bought this tractor for 20 bucks have 400 in it cause someone stole the engine from previous owner and I had to buy pulley and pto and few other things off ebay. Did bearings in the deck to and have new blades in the way. All that's left is a new cam adjuster for hydro and should be good to go. Will probably take back apart and paint this winter.
