This is my Makita bandsaw which I have owned for over 25 years. It is virtually unknown to most . It was always a pretty rare machine specialized and dedicated to resawing lumber or machining timber framing parts. It is from the late 70s and along with a very similar model from Hitachi is the only type ever made. It is a machine not used often but essential when the need arises. It works great for its intended purpose by it is an intimidating machine . It takes a 2-1/2” blade the one on it being carbide tipped. It is a noisy machine due to the unusual motor set up. It is a universal motor rotating at 25000 rpm’s geared down to the machine working speed. Something I always wanted to change but never go around to it. It is built like a tank weighing a whopping 450 Lbs . Saw sits low since large timbers heavy are used on it 2-1/2” carbide tipped blade Heavy castings all over. Two lift hooks provided Motor with gear reduction Even wheels are heavy cast iron Table tilts to 45 degrees Lift hooks for fork lift 12-1/2” height capacity

Gibson Mfg. Corp. The Gibson Model A Tractor was manufactured in Longmont Colorado. It was a very sturdy small tractor powered by a six horsepower Wisconsin air cooled engine. The Gibson Model A and its successors, the model D and SD, had a mechanical implement lift. The Model “D” followed the “A” in 1948, featuring 22-inch rear tires. Next was the Model “SD,” which weighed more than 1,000 pounds and had fenders, a hood and the distinctive chevron cut-out Gibson grill. All three of these first models were lever steered— push the lever forward to turn left, and pull it back to go right. The addition of a real steering wheel was the prominent feature of the next model, the “Super D,” and optional hydraulics and electric starter and lights were also available. The “Super D2” had a two-cylinder, 12-horsepower Wisconsin air-cooled engine, weighed 1,375 pounds, and rolled on 7, 8 or 9.00 x 24 rear tires and 4.00 x 12 fronts. The Gibson series E tractors had the same 12-hp engine, tire sizes and other features as the “Super D2,” but was available as the Model “EF.” The Model “E,” with a tricycle front end, the Model “EWF” had the the conventional wide front. The series “E” were a two plow tractor. In 1948, Gibson introduced its,” the two-plow Model “H” and the 2-3-plow Model “I.” The H powered by a Hercules 4-cylinder engine, while the I had a Hercules 6-cylinder. Both had four-speed transmissions, electric starters and hydraulic lift as standard equipment, as well as a standard power take-off. Gibson having difficulty competing with larger manufacturers like IHC, Deere and Case. Gibson was doing very well building forklifts for the U.S. Navy at the time and decided it was time to sell the tractor operation. In 1952 Helene Curtis, Inc. of Chicago bought the Gibson company which became a division of Fox Metal products of Denver, Colorado, however no tractors were ever produced there. When Gibson went out of business all production records were burned in the company’s parking lot.

I'll be heading for the show Thursday morning at 8AM. If I don't have a couple flat tires, I should be there by 9AM. I'm permanently book at Mrs.Ks B&B. Been staying there for over 60 years. It's a bit pricey, but my room is clean and the food is great.

I could have dropped this in with the post that I have on my pulling tractor but I thought that it may be more useful here. I used a piece of unpolished stainless to make a new dash for my tractor. Well the unpolished was just not to my liking so I wanted to clean it up. I will add that polishing stainless is nothing like polishing aluminum. It takes a lot longer. A pic of the back of my new dash so you can see what I had to start with. I worked on this dash a little each night after work. Day 1 - I started by working it over with a black rouge and a buffing wheel on a drill. This took most of the dull off from the metal. Day 2 - I switched to a gray rouge and a new buffing wheel. This started to bring out a better shine from the metal. Sorry no pic. Day 3 - Start with a new buffing wheel again but switched to a green rouge. Now the dash really pops. After roughly 5hrs of buffing I'm quite happy with the results. Other than the deep scuff that I put in it with a slip of the grinder when I was making it. But I'll live with that. Materials used. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-buffing-wheel-34743.html https://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-lb-black-polish-compound-96779.html https://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-lb-dark-grey-polish-compound-96769.html https://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-lb-green-polish-compound-96778.html Hope this post is of use.

I agree with everything said…I’ll add… I spray bombed my 1994 520H and my 1984 Work Horse GT-1600… I put a little effort into them. Are they perfect ? No Could I have done better ? Maybe Was I excessively lazy ? No Am I happy with the results ? Yes And I do appreciate a quality spray gun paint job…

To me it's just paint. Nothing that I can't fix. Price adjustment may be required though.

Once again my family's collection contains an example of today's subject. Gibson was also manufactured in Seattle WA. One side of the rear axle on ours has Longmont cast into the top, the other side has Seattle cast into it. Gibson's main color was gray & red or just red but I've seen them in a few colors. Ours is green & yellow, all paint appears to be original. Here is a picture of our Gibson. @WHX?? has a Gibson as well. Any pictures Jim??

Picked up another WH today Model 1 0381and according to data its a 75 C161 which was an 8 speed which this is. I am going to rebuild from frame up. Flip up back fender is snapped off at body tub. I assume using a piece of angle steel would be best solution? Its needs some TLC for sure.

OK I really don't care about how my horses look. They are tractors they are supposed to WORK. Most of mine are dirty dusty and have poor paint jobs...but they start and do what they are supposed to. I do not like painting will not waste the time needed to do it super nice. I paint for corrosion control. Mechanicals are a different story .. I want them work well and last so I will spend time on that. My L-107 that father bought in 1967 got a quick rattle can job in the later 90s. I rarely wash her (water and metal = rust not to mention what happens to electrical stuff). She starts and is still used most every day...and in 57 year I doubt she has spent 5 days outside overnight and certainly not when it was raining. There is a line in the Dirty Dozen Very pretty Colonel, very pretty, but can they fight Mine aren't pretty but the do what they are supposed to.

Thats not spray bombing, you actually made effort to isolate the parts and different colors. Spray bombing would be hosing it off, spraying the whole tractor 1 color freestyle. Yours looks really nice. Imagine spray bombing as hiding behing a bench...stabbing cans of paint and tossing them grenade style at the tractor🤣

Yep... still crying about this tho... Mine is a '49 model D. It was given to me by a nephew who was moving. I haven't done anything with it yet but plan to this year. A PO put a battery on it as the magneto is toast. 400 to get it rebuilt. Transmission has got issues and lots of work to be done on snapped clutch bracket castings. Front wheels are those cheap auto spares. In other words it had a hard life. I have a moldboard plow and a spring tooth for it. You didn't tell about your axle Dan... another. Quite a FB following on Gibsons and parts are out there. I've rode Dan's and they are a blast and steer quite easy.

You ever see a tractor, WH or otherwise that the seller has so badly spray bombed that you dont buy it solely on the amount of additional work required to clean it up and not look terrible? Like not just how bad it looks, just the sheer laziness to paint the gauges, dash, tires, steering wheel, lights, wiring...etc?

I was clearing out a corner of the shop today and found an old RLV silencer i ran on my old Racing kart, i figured if it can flow a 200cc engine turning 8600 a K series shouldn't be a problem. The Nelson muffler is fine but i catch a sharp "crack" on the exhaust note, its annoying when you mow for a couple hours. I slid the rlv silencer (its a can with about 6 steel screens in it) on and it really takes the edge off the sound. Id probably have to make a support arm to keep it from snapping the outlet off from vibration but i thought it was cool how it did effectively help. I put it on my 27hp Vtwin and the difference there was even more pronounced.

I thought id mentioned it on here before but maybe not. If you find yourself painting wheels alot, let the air out, dont dismount the tires, they will pull off the rim a bit from deflating. Jump on Amazon and grab the cheapest playing cards you can..i usually get a 24 pack for 20 bucks or less. Then stick them down in the rim, overlapping to form a solid barrier. No taping required. You can usually use them a couple times

My favorite "good grief" spray bomb is when you see the tractor or implement listed and the picture shows it sitting there with not only the over spray on tires, etc but lots of over spray on the ground all around the item....just painted and ran the ad...

Been on the hunt for a Wheel Horse loader ever since I saw one at the 3rd Wheel Horse Collector Club show in 2001...clear back in the Yahoo Group days. The loaders always seemed to be overpriced, in terrible shape, or part of a larger package deal that was more than I was looking for. This one was a long way from home (about 2,000 mile round trip)...but was only about 1.5hrs from a place I needed to take a work trip. Decided to cancel my flight and drive. The forecast for the drive back called for snow....so I decided to stop at Home Depot and get a can of Fluid Film to cover the loader to prevent any rust that might occur on the original paint. Just emptied the whole can on it When I got home and the temp warm above freezing, I took it to the car wash and cleaned it off. Fluid Film is an amazing product. In original shape and included the rear weight counterbalance (not attached) and original manual. Intend to fill the rear tires with RimGuard and use the suitcase weight bracket as a counterbalance (factory bracket that came with Bervac Snowblower) as it doesn't stick so far out like the original counterbalance bucket does. I've had a Deere compact loader for years and they are very useful....but this has always been on my wish list, and I just couldn't pass it up. If anyone has a lead on where I could buy forks for this small loader, I would be appreciative! Thad (Ohio)

Like many of us, we've seen a few come into our Workshop that were just ridiculously undone overdone redone not done should have been done. I don't remember ever not buying one on purpose because it looked terrible or whatever. But as Dan says above, we definitely accounted for it in the price.

... and they usually have the audacity to tell you that a "restoration" on it has begun... !! They should be banned from the spray paint aisle at Walmart! That does irk me to no end - as a former painter, it's all about the preparation, THEN the presentation.

Most of my rims get painted with tire off. Great for touch ups when they get scratches from mounting. They say the best paint goes down if one uses all RED cards...

I can see the next time I am at a steam/tractor show i need to take more time and get pics of the machines and the info cards. Looking back I have passed up some jewels of machines. One amazing take away, small companies seem to get gobbled up by the big ones. I suppose the one old guy I worked for had it right, to win in business you either out preform or eliminate the completion.

I need to do this today! lol

I do the same with the "Dollar Store" playing cards. I also heat up the can of paint prior to and during use. Half a sauce pan of tap hot water works fine. thins the paint and raises the pressure in the can - win, win. DO wipe off the can each time it comes out of the pan before painting !!.....

Jim, be my guest,. The year I did the "On this Day" posts my wife had some major surgery and I had a lot of house time so found it rather interesting to do. Biggest problem is there are some days of the year where nothing really interesting happened except bad stuff and I didn't want to cover negative events. Now I'm not getting any shop time while I go to PT three days a week and little more. I find tractor trivia much more interesting and with the exception of tomorrow's post they aren't date specific. The most fascinating thing is how one quest branches out to information you never even thought of looking for.

Here is some of my spray bombing. It looks way better than it did when I got it. And yes I know it is the wrong color.

If you look at this picture of Jim's, your pretty much looking at all there is to see. That arm sticking up on the right hand side connects to a drag link on the lower end. The drag link leads to an arm off from the right hand spindle. The right & left hand spindles are joined by a tie rod. Not much to it. I've put a fair amount of time in the seat of our Gibson and have driven a Sr. lever steer. Both are about the same - A little hard to turn the wheels while sitting still, steer with one finger on the stick once moving.

Yes sir I did mask , but the only place I needed to was the Satin Black on the front grilles. Everything else was painted separately ( tractor disassembled and reassembled ) My shop floor caught quite a bit of overspray !

Nice ! Welcome to the Horse FEL club! Never heard of it will have to try a can. I got these clamp ons from Titan attachments. https://www.palletforks.com/ They make the front end real heavy with a decent load but ok for moving around a deck on a pallet or other light work like unloading a HF tool box. Cat's meow would be quick attach brackets like your JD. Move the weight to closer to the tractor. I couldn't live without them on the big tractor. Hooks on the bucket a must. Another nice accessory is a clamp on receiver hitch you can use on the JD bucket too. Horse will get light in the rear with a heavy trailer even with a weight box.
