Back in the summer of 1967 I must have doing a lot of fast talking. My Dad was a delivery driver for Armours Meats delivering to restaurants and resorts all over Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. He worked long hours and took all the overtime he could get. Consequently, all yard work and snow shoveling was my responsibility. Our driveway was about 150 feet long and we got a lot of blowing and drifting snow. Plus sidewalks. My uncle built National Mowers, so we had one of them. We(I) needed a snowblower. Usually in August I attended the Minnesota State Fair with my Mom and Aunt. This year I went with my Dad. We were on a mission to shop for a garden tractor with a snowblower. I don't know how serious he was, but I was already sold on a Cub Cadet with John Deere coming in second. Once Dad saw the price on these the whole idea was over. No way! As long as we were there, we looked at all the other brands on the grounds. Everything of the era was represented and we looked at all of them. Eventually we ran across a display of little red tractors. As luck would have it the area dealers rotated through the display and the dealer in St. Paul Park was on duty. He informed us that they had a State Fair special where you got a free mower with each tractor. Now my Dad was at least back to considering the possibility. We went home with a promise to visit Zilmers Fix-it Shop soon where could test drive and get a closer look. Soon after the Fair we went down to his dealership. My Dad told him we needed a snow blower and not a mower. Eventually a deal was struck and we returned home with a brand new 1077 and a single stage blower. Now I couldn't wait for it to snow. I recently found these pictures of me and the brand new 1077. Since I was bringing home a Christmas tree, I though this was a good time to share them. I was 15 when the picture was taken. I still have both the tractor and trailer. I made the trailer from a Model T frame and pallet wood. I have since upgaded it to a bigger deck and tires. The 1077 would still run with a new battery, but is in need of complete restoration. Both are stored inside. It's been fun to remember this time and the origin of this special tractor. Merry Christmas to all! Kent

Today would have been @JimD,s birthday, he was taken from us much too soon. Jim served as a moderator on Red Square and always shared his sense of humor. for several years Jim would find unusual photos and post them with the title "Caption this" to bring out the humorous side of others. You are missed Jim.

Years ago, I was really into Wheelhorses, and I was a member here. We lost our 17 year old son in a car wreck, and for unexplainable reasons that grief brings, I sold everything that I had (lots of memories were wrapped up in those Horses). I bought a Kubota B7100 to do my chores. My father had a Workhorse GT1600, which I have now, so I'm no longer void of a Wheelhorse. It runs and mows, but needs minor attentions. However, what brought me back to Red Square is a Steiner that I'm buying. It's an original condition, low hour (1300) S20, with an Onan B48G in it. It is in great shape, and I would like to keep the machine original and in top condition. So, I figured that this would be a great place to source information and advice on the engine (if needed). I have not stopped appreciating Wheelhorses, so I am also glad to be back for that reason.

Follow-up: It's been two weeks now. Pain is gone, and the "urge incontinence" is much better. I'll give another report in a couple of weeks.

Jim would sit at his desk for Skype sessions. So years ago I sent Jim D a funny desk plaque for his birthday. I can't remember what it said. But I needed a long skinny box to ship it in. Working at the hospital I went to the Materials Store and found an empty box for Catheters. Just the right size! I think Jim got as big a laugh out of the box as he did the plaque! One night during a Skype session Me, @stevasaurus Koen & Duke were on . Jim sat in one of those old heavy swivel office chairs with the big springs in the swivel part. Something was said that I won't divulge but Jim leaned back laughing, His headphones went flying and he promptly disappeared from view!

Sorry for the incredible loss you experienced. Glad your back and if you wanted your old account back or merged that can be done. A fresh start with a new account is fine as well.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the compassion and welcome. Horse Newbie, great looking 1600! Mine is tucked away in the barn, but I'll get a photo or two when I can pull it out. It runs, but the petcock leaks and the tank drains out. I have a new one, just haven't messed with it yet. One day, it'll look as good as yours.

The Kohler 230722 Condenser fits all battery ignition single cylinder and twin cylinder from the K-90 to the K-582. The 235786 condensers are for the magneto equipped Kohler engines only K-161 to K-301 The unit of measure for a condenser is the Farad. Many electronic components like radios and TVs use capacitors that are in the microfarad range (ten to the minus six power Farads) and our small engines use a condenser that is in the nanofarad range (ten to the minus ninth power Farads) which is based on the voltage range they work in. A magneto ignition system uses a 100 to 250 nF condenser and a battery ignition system uses a 200 to 500 nF condenser. A good multi-meter will have a capacitor testing function. Armed with this information you can walk into your auto parts store and get a very confused look on the face of the person on the other side of the counter. The capacitance is not listed on the package and probably not in any of the on-line data they have for the condensers they stock. You just have to go by the application chart and be sure that the condenser you are buying is for the type ignition system your engine has, not just the horsepower or engine size.

Grew up in Iowa with Norwegian ancestors and a simple oyster stew with oysters, salted butter, whole milk , salt and pepper was always a Christmas Eve treat. Still carry that tradition on with my family today. Years ago I was planning a "surprise" trip for my wife's 30th birthday. She was always the planner, not me, but this time I made the effort. I was going to tell her how to pack but she would not know where we were going until we got to the airport. Couple days before the trip I had to let her know because there were hurricane predictions where we were headed. I called the bed and breakfast, car rental, etc folks down there and they all said "don't worry about it...this happens all the time and there won't be any problems...come on down." Being a sailor I know a thing or two about the weather and was uneasy with their promises. Night before we were to leave I am on the phone with Delta trying to see what our options were to change flights. After going through many management levels we finally got someone to change our flight to Baltimore and planned to go to Annapolis instead (Annapolis, a drinking town with a sailing problem). So instead of everything being planned and reserved we went on a whim and a prayer. Leaving the Baltimore airport we went past Annapolis curious about finding the coast and stumbled upon Harris Crab House in Kent Narrows off Prospect Bay. When they brought out that huge platter of Maryland Blue Crabs we thought we were in heaven! We picked up a Maryland Crab Stew recipe from the restaurant before we left and it is now part of our Christmas tradition also. We had a great time in Annapolis and from our hotel room one evening we watched on TV as Katrina hit exactly where we were supposed to be..... in the French Quarter in New Orleans. We never tried to get deposits back from the places we had reserved there...they had enough problems to deal with.

Great story! It was awesome to hear the tractor is still there, maybe time for a mechanical restoration? New paint and decals are great but they take away the originality. Every battle scar on it is yours, would be a shame to lose those.

I've done this too...plowing leaves, that is. Tilt the blade forward...to next to last hole.... using down pressure drags all the fall leaves into a neat little pile for burning.

Nothin like spending Christmas out in the shop. Glassed a head and worked on a K301 build. My fav a SG motor. Valves looked a little dicey after lapping so new ones on the way. Just a re-ring on the bore.

The Boys came thru for Old Edog. A set of old tractor show badges, a NOS 1969 Pa. Angler magazine, Bass Pro credit, an analog watch that I can actually read and set, and THE Hat. And some new tools to save a few barn finds.

Ed, when my mother and father were still living, they would camp at Jane's Island State Park in Crisfield, MD. Back then (early 1980's) you could crab right off the pier. You could have up to 10 single lines and 4 crab pots. All you needed was one adult with a fishing license, and the crabs must be consumed at your campsite. We would have steamed crabs every night. Then later, the state got greedy and required a crabbers license for anyone with a line in the water.

@Sailman You made a wise choice to turn into Harris's. Been there many times, done the crabs, and have the tee-shirt to prove it.

All of the above, flavor, smell, texture would be the top three. Oh, and did I mention smell? My daughter used a mix of "foreign" cab meat to make crab cakes. They were so bad and the smell permeated her house, car, and clothing for days.

@ebinmaine I’ll concede our tractors ground is black. Guess I’ve been doing too much vehicle work and black is certainly not a standard for ground after the main battery cables. My class C RV is built on a Chevy 4500 chassis. White is ground on the Its panel. Some of the dash components that have case grounds that are green. The power plants 48v and 120v DC systems use black hot and white ground. No wonder I’m confused. I,d be better off if I just worked on tractors.

Here's where we get our crab meat. L-R son Mike, son Mark, and grandson Clayton working our secret creek on the Delaware Bay. BTW, I never use Old Bay seasoning. I prefer J.O.s #2 seasoning on my $250/lb blue claws.

Merry Christmas! We have like-new old Wagner dutch oven (from the 1920's-1930's) that we used just last Thursday to make an awesome chuck roast, potatoes, onions, carrots dinner in....... I hope you like yours as much as we like ours!

Merry Christmas, all. The roast is in the oven (cast iron Dutch oven), around an hour to go on it. A quiet Christmas here, just my wife and I.

When installing the pump point the lever down toward the oil pan abit then pivot it up against the bottom of the cam. You should feel the cam lightly pressing on the lever as you flatten it against the block and putting the screws in. Sometimes helps to have three hands getting the screws started and the gasket in the proper place. A light coat of grease on the gasket will help stick it to the block. To check to see if the pump is working when installed connect a line from the outlet into a suitable container. Remove power from the coil so the motor can't start and key it over. Should have good spurts coming out. Remember to open gas cock.

Smoked Deviled Eggs. To make this it is best to have outside temps of 35f or less. Today, Christmas Eve in North Central Wisconsin it was about 45f but I decided to risk it anyway. Make up your Deviled Eggs as you normally would. (We mix the yolks with yellow mustard, Hellmanns mayo, salt & pepper.) After you have your Deviled Eggs made, sprinkle some paprika on them, add some crushed cook bacon and a thin slice of fresh Jalapeno. Now cold smoke your eggs for 2.5 to 3 hours. These things are like crack to me, I ate half a dozen myself today.

Thought I would add a few labels from one of my C-165; the other has different labels on but it is currently undercover so will post those another time. I think Godfreys is still in business following a quick search on the internet. Sorry about the mud splatters, should have given it a wipe down first!
