7 pointsOK hold on here before we put down everybody on FB. I joined this group... vintage electronic test equipment. Guys show & tell about ther old stuff. Old Simpson 260s come up often @squonk Anyhoo they post stuff for sale and I have this old oscilloscope from way back when I was in the service and into electronics. I'll never use it again so I ask what's it worth. Most said little to nothing which is what I supected. Give it to a budding tech they said. Guy by the name of Earl in OH offers me 60 shipped. Done I says. Just wanted it gone and to a good home. Turns out he restos vintage radios. So he sends me a piece of USPS that cost him 10 bucks to send. Inside is a nice letter and a Franklin! Wow and a calendar with restoed vintage muscle cars. We got into some nice PM conversations where I mentioned I do vintage GTs. Great guy. Gotta half a mind to send him free my old 260 I'll never use.

7 pointsI was once told: “It is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid than to open it and remove all doubt" Applies to many social media situations, too.

6 pointsI hope everyone has a great winter. Be warm. Live plentifully. Enjoy the company of great people. And get Seat Time!!

5 pointsI was offered this vintage machinists tool box by @Handy Don who was kind enough to even bring it to me. It is from the 50s. It was missing two drawers and at some time in its life it was exposed to water. Some veneer in back had delaminated and broken off. As soon as he offered it I knew right away its future function. My oldest son has given similar machinists boxes , but in metal to each one of the boys. So I am giving this one to my granddaughter. She can keep her little stuff in it and it can also be a future jewelry box. It’s Union Tool Chest model B20 from 1950. It is stamped on the interior with number 394 which I am sure it’s the serial #. Made two new drawers and repaired veneer. Also lined all the drawers with new felt this time lining the entire inside surface of drawers . Removed the old damaged finish , restained it and applied some wipe on poly . Finally cleaned and reinstalled all hardware. Even found a reproduction factory tag for it. I just need to find two correct little pulls for new drawers. Rather than being discarded it now will have a new life and purpose for at least another generation. Thank you @Handy Don Before After Before After

5 pointsI was looking for a tractor that was in this topic to show a friend and made the mistake of typing that in the search bar thinking it would bring up the Redsquare post. It did……and a lot of other things also. 😎

5 pointsIt's Jimbos fault. One of my New Years Resolutions was to never respond to these controversial social media posts. I tried for 23 hours and just caved in. It's Jimbos fault. 1. USPS or USPLOS We are all tired of shipping parts when the shipping cost is more than the part and filling our landfills with unopened junk mail. The easy solution. Charge the same rate to all customers. In 2022 the bulk mail was 90% (2.5 Trillion pounds) of the mail load and contributed only 10% of the revenue. 2. Facebook I was lucky and did not see the sad exchange about Lowell. I belong to quite a few GROUPS on Facebook. I get notifications when there is a post on these groups. Some I belong to...WH Parts, Gburg College Band Parents, (grandson) S.M. Smith reinventing the wheel ( company I retired from), Delaware Bay, Chesapeake Bay, Conowingo Basin, Local Lakes (fishing reports). etc. Like the Red Square Forum, nearly all the comments and replys are cordial and helpful I use Facebook Market place and Red Square for most of my buy/sell activities and have had very little problems. About a month ago this non runner popped up on my FBMP 55 minutes from me for $275. I saw a good looking 42" SD and sealed the deal for $175. The owner just wanted it out of his garage so he could get his car in. Got a like new deck and a 700 hour 310-8 that had a jammed clutch damper. I guess my message is ..... use the good and ignore the bad. Sorry for breaking my New Years resolution......It's Jimbos fault.

4 pointsIt is Sylvia... totally unexpected. Here's another one. 'Bout a week and a half ago this guy...on FB... not a collector/restorer comes upon a garage sale with tubs of horse parts in it so he buys them. Goes on a FB horse site and offers them up for sale. So I spy a one piece 701/702 one piece tank... no dash but not a deal.breaker... and the hens teeth 702/753 steering wheel. I him haw abit and he him haws abit but then comes back with a counter offer substantially LOWER than what I offered. Deal I says thinkin in case my 502 tank sealing procedure goes south. I get the stuff BEFORE he gets my check. Tank is choice but steering wheel has a bent spoke but totally restorable. Hellofa nice guy. So since my 502 tank sealing was successful I may pass the stuff on unless @Achto has a use.

3 pointsHmmm... I see 2 in the shade, and 2 that will be sippin' a side of sunburn!!! Including our smalltown hero, The Band-Aid Bandito.

3 pointsThere is a higher amperage charging stator and rectifier available. Should be the same as ones found in a Vanguard.

3 pointsHi Linda... Yes Madge stuck up for Lowell. All of the guys I know from here did too. Funny thing was the guy claiming scammer got slammed big time and towards the end had his tail tucked between is legs it seems.
-
3 pointsI see that the FB thread has been deleted, but I don't care who you are, you don't have the right to disparage another person or business. This is what's wrong with society today. FB allows people the opportunity to be a bully and not have to show their face. Obviously this person has no idea what it is like to run a business. Compared to Lowell, my little brake lining business is peanuts. I have a great reputation on eBay, but there is always that one buyer, who because of no fault of my own, and the never ending issues with shipping, wants the world to think that I am a terrible seller. Therefore, when I saw the post about Lowell being a scam, I had to react. Those of us who know Lowell, know that he is anything but a scammer. Keep up your good work Lowell.

-
2 pointsTruth be told guy not a huge fan of trikes nor white on a 1045 but using a old rim to wind up the old ladies Xmas lights is just freakin pure genius!
-
2 points@Pullstart while sitting on the beach do you find yourself wondering what WH model and what set of tires would go best in the sand ? Are you thinking of your next project.... a dune buggy Wheel Horse ????

2 pointsEwwwww great tip! I've got a line on a Craftsman (excuse my French) that has a Vanguard full of water in the combustion chamber. Would make a nice home for my B&S opy if I ever breathe some life into her.
-
2 pointsI believe I found the right parts. 393295 Alternator coil ($23.49) 394890 Regulator (9.66) Looks like around $33.00 for the parts so long as the flywheel is the same and can be reused.

2 pointsFunny thing the other day. The battery in the 520 FEL is getting old and weak so I swapped it out with a fresh one from the 502. Thinkin it should have enough power left to start a little Tecky right? Not. So I start rummaging around in cabinets out in the warehouse muttering I gotta have a charger out here somewhere. Find this and immediate thought was of EB and this thread. I have no idea where I got this ... maybe in a box of auction crap. Forgot I even had it. Might have put new gator clamps at one time. What better way to charge a vintage tractor than a vintage charger?

2 pointsWhat winter? Very little to no snow and sno horses are ready and able but getting jumpy. Usually a good five inches of hard water here by now to set a tip up for some action. Guys are out busting up skim ice with boats!
-
2 pointsIs there a way to change out the charge coil for a better one I wonder. My next project is my GT1600 and it would be great to have a proper regulated charging system installed in that 16HP opposed Briggs.
-
2 pointsHope everyone has a great winter. I myself am already ready for it to be over with, I’m ready to have 5 hrs of daylight after work to go fishing instead of 45 minutes of daylight to feed cows every night
-
2 pointsYes sir! They are about one step above 'nothing', and takes 3600rpm just to reach that
-
2 pointsDoes it have the single wire charging system? They were dang near worthless. IIRC there are a couple different 'standard' charging systems/stators, one is around 12 amps and the other is like 16. Regardless, none of them seem to put out much at all unless youre winding em right out to their 3600. They definitely do not charge like our beloved Big Kohlers. As for not restarting well when hot, seems like Briggs dont need much choke at all, at least none I messed with. Full choke to start cold, forget its there til next cold start
-
2 pointsAnd the Best to You and Yours...... and... the days get longer from here - for 6 months.

2 pointsI have two B&S yank-start engines and yes, they do flood. Half-choke if warm for no more than one pull. Full choke for one pull if cold then half and they’ll usually start on the second pull. And yes, I think engines do have their preferences! Something I learned watching a member’s posted video of starting his Onan has made it a LOT easier for me. He set the throttle at maybe one-third and then started cranking while he blipped the choke from none to full and back to none in about 2 seconds.
-
2 pointsHi Mike- since you are talking about facts- can we please confirm that Craig only said one sentence to the guy attacking Lowell- telling him that he must be mistaken because he knows Lowell wouldn’t do that before the guy went off on him? Not sure how the fake news got started but it’s not cool.

2 pointsI've noticed USPS vans out making deliveries on Sundays. I seem to remember reading somewhere that USPS is doing Sunday deliveries for the jungle site. Disclaimer here - I am writing about this using remembered sources and my memory is not as good as it once was. Please fact check this for yourself before you take it for gospel.
-
2 pointsOK you guys are busted for trolling for more tractors... you know I would never do that but keep yer eye out for a nice Panzer... Um ahh ... postmaster driving a new Caddy by any chance? OK gotta get on a box here ... how many times have I told you guys NOT to order crap off fleabay when the location says speed pak from China? 502 voltmeter is on a slow boat that just got torpedoed... What's worse is the same volt meter is in Georgia... for a lousy buck more! Whatschamatta wif you? OK off the box whilst I go cuss out @wheelhorseman for not carrying volt meters... Maybe dropping batteries on the heads of porch pirates from drones ain't such a bad idea?

2 pointsLike walking through a department store with your older brother growing up… women’s underwear (“don’t look left”)
-
2 pointsSoooo ... If you get the Washington Post delivered by USPS, I suppose the November 28th edition should be arriving soon.... !

2 pointsGet ahold of Lowell at Wheel Horse Parts and More. They sell the hoses.

2 pointsI'm another non-Facebook user. My wife has an account that she uses to keep tabs on the family. She very rarely posts anything on it. I'm on this forum, a toy train forum, and a R/C boat forum. All carefully chosen mainly for the friendly climate with the other forum members. I've often stumbled into various forums when doing internet searches on other subjects. A lot of them seemed to be populated by rude folks who seem to need to criticize, berate, and otherwise run down other's ideas. I have no desire to join into an environment like that.
-
2 pointsI saw that post as well, I’ve threatened many times to delete FB for reasons exactly like that. Only reason I keep it is for my daily scan through Marketplace looking for another deal (though I think that reason is why Courtney wishes I would delete it )

2 pointsAnother 'ags and tri ribs' guy here, that's whats on Hoss in my profile pic. Rears are Deestones and just like everyone else has said, they run small. Very stiff sidewall too. They are loaded and hook up pretty good, and the less air I run the better, currently sitting at about 2psi. Something else to think about if you're in a situation where you need serious bite is ATV tires. I run 26x9-12 MassFx 'dirt devil' knockoffs and 19x7-8 SunF power 2s on the B1, which is similar to a Bighorn. Sidewall flex is EVERYTHING for getting a big contact patch and 'wrapping' around stumps, rocks or tree branches n logs. Obviously not going to see terrain like that in your yard or driveway, but the big contact patch will still make a big difference. These will do 10 times more work than the Deestone ags, and theyre not even close to an aggressive model.....but they dont look as cool as ags and tri ribs

2 pointsLowell @wheelhorseman is a vendor on Red Square and has lots of good quality parts you may need. Here is a link to the boot, check out the rest of his site also. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/wheel-horse-3577-shifter-boot/
-
2 pointsMy wife has a Facebook account so I have access two Wheel Horse sites there though her account. I usually just go to see what is for sale and never post anything in the discussion sections. One thing I noticed there is the people can be downright nasty to one another. Once I see that, I’m out. I immediately think you won’t see that on Red Square, and if you do those people quickly get put in their place or removed from the site. This is why there’s only nice people here, and this is why it’s pretty much the only social media I’m interested taking part in. Remember the old Honda commercial? It said you meet the nicest people on a Honda. Well I’d like to say you meet the nicest people on Red Square!!! 👍🏻🙂
