We had our family Christmas Saturday evening. It was good to have the whole family together, especially for my niece’s first Christmas. Lots of fun, games, and good food. My little sisters have always had an interest in Scottish Highland cattle, and since my girlfriend raises Highlands we decided to take them to the farm for a Christmas photo shoot with some of the cows and a couple of my old Farmalls, much to the dismay of my die hard John Deere brother in law I think they turned out great, only bad part is now Courtney has the idea that we need to bring more people out for shoots with the cows

Whaaatt!!! How do you survive living without running water. Do you have running water in the house? If yes, there's your answer. Move the shop into the house.

I finally got around to putting new seals and o rings in the HY-2 pump and the cylinder and got those installed. Some day I’d like to find a set of HL-5 lights to put on this tractor, other than that this project is done.

Tracked down a lighting fuse blowing issue on a 520. Suspected something fishy under the fender pan. Sure enough wire pinched between support and pan. Something to watch for when installing the pan.

Generally speaking you'd run a waterline underground from the house to the barn. Now you won't have to lay awake thinking about it anymore. I wouldn't want to miss your beauty sleep.

Or, @WHX?? you could fill up 5 gallon buckets with water and run it to the shop... Tada!!! Running water.

Update. So after some crane use (works!) and continued small people transport duties in the trailer I am rethinking my crane design. Issues: 1. Crane weight makes tipping trailer to dump very difficult. 2. Crane location in trailer reduces area of trailer where lifted material can be placed. 3. Little people kept hitting their heads on the crane handle... Solution: And: Going to mount the crane to the winch plate and have a mobile crane that can go on front or back of any of my tractors using 2" hitch (except the A-60)... should solve my issues (well, my crane issues...). Holy @#$#T, that much vision blockage has Pedestrian Mower written all over it. Especially on right turns. People around here constantly just walk into the street expecting you to see them and stop no matter how fast you're going. It's like they're looking for an insurance pay day. You would get a bunch of them. Maybe you don't even notice those aren't speed bumps! LOL

Our road traffic laws state there should be nothing that obstructs the view of the swept area of the wiper blades. Easy right? Wrong.... Every day I see ever larger things in folks cars, from the simple dangling nick nacks to huge sat nav or phone screens stuck in the windscreen. I don't mind an air freshener or a lucky charm, but some people just take the mickey. Our Asian taxi drivers seem to have more of this kind of rammel in their cars, maybe the gods and goddesses they hang up save them from crashing, they'd need to as they certainly can't see where they are going. But it doesn't matter, cops don't deal with that kind of thing any more. They are far too busy to deal with traffic matters. And our actual traffic department is so cut to the bone I really cannot say when I last saw a patrol vehicle on the roads. No wonder our driving standards are going through the floor.

Called into work today. No heat in 2 heating loops at hospital. Water temps at 60° when they should be 120° and 180° respectively. Got to my office and the control system is calling for 100% steam. Went to the boiler room and started tracing steam lines. Main steam spits 2 directions and one direction I could not hear any steam going through the system. Checked the gauge and it was reading 6 PSI . Should be 10 PSI. . But I'm looking at it and say. "I bet that gauge is broke!" Removed the gauge. Yep it's broke! Steam pressure regulator is bad. Called the lead mechanic down to get up on the pipes to crack open the bypass. He can't budge it. So he calls the plumber we call "Rockhands" He can loosen something with a pair of channel locks that I would need a 3 foot bar on. Well he snapped off the stem on the bypass. So he calls a contractor we use and I get the emergency repair authorization paperwork going. Lucky for us they could get their hands on a new pressure regulator and they are on their way. Heat back on. This was supposed to happen next week during Christmas as all emergencies always happen on a holiday. It almost never fails. 4th of July is usually the worst!

I’ve picked up two of these abandoned at the curb. Ebay carb, fuel line, filter, lube, plug and done. They do a good job. Gave them both away though one recipient insisted on at least paying for the parts--Ok. Both still in regular use.

It shouldn't but they do tend to retain some "memory" bends from sitting in the packaging. Working the belt hard typically gets rid of it fairly quickly. Like backing up to a tree or wall and spinning the tires on the ground. Do it in reverse so it won't be able to drive up and tip over if it grabs. Driving up a steep hill maybe? The memory bends can cause clutching issues by not allowing the belt to fully disengage with the engine pulley.

You can usually find these 275 gallon tanks local for about $100-$200. Empty for the winter or maybe insulate and use a tank heater to keep it from freezing. Add a pump and viola, water in the shop. I stayed at this hotel last year, very nice and right on the battlefield! Also there is a brand new WW2 museum close to the fairgrounds that looks like it's worth checking out. My snow team for this winter. 520HC with foot control and plow. Dongfeng 304G with 60" loader and 72" 2 stage blower with hydraulic chute rotation and deflection. Tractor has no chains but it has fluid filled industrial tires and 4 wheel drive and has great traction. Dongfeng is manual but it has a shuttle shift. Walk behind blower is a little briggs and stratton 1024 I picked up this past summer and have not used yet. My plan is to use it to clear walkways and interlocking stone areas.

If you can get a foot control on the auto it is even better. My plow tractor is a 520HC with foot control and it is awesome and quick.

Lithium ion batteries are pretty safe. Lithium ferrite batteries are safe too, though they swell terribly with repeated discharge cycles. Lithium Polymer batteries are extremely volitale. Just dropping one can create a very big fire, and it can wait to ignite for an hour or more. You never store a dropped or dented lithium polymer battery with others. They also require special chargers to charge each cell individually, and should be stored at a certain voltage and in steel or fireproof containers. Of course, lithium polymer batteries can discharge hundreds of amps from a pack the size of a matchbox- for at least a few seconds. That's what makes them great for certain applications. They can make massive discharge rates, albeit for a very short period. They are used primarily in RC cars, aircraft, and drones. Point being- not all lithium batteries are bad. Most are no more dangerous than the 12V battery in your car. But some are very dangerous and require special handling and storage. Just like the postal service, everyone assumes anything "lithium" is dangerous, but that isn't the case.

I picked up this 702 from a buddy today, he bought it several months ago, supposedly it had been sitting in a shed for a couple of decades. It now has new points, carb, fuel pump, ignition switch and the rims have recently been painted. It runs good but does puff some smoke on start up. This one’s gonna stay in original patina. The first order of business is to sit, have a cup of coffee and figure out how to get that new white paint off of those rims.

I would disassemble it as wallfish suggested and clean it properly. Also, those two grease fittings plus the one in the center benefits from jacking up the tractor in a way that allows the front axle to hang free.

I don't think there is an issue of fire. These are expensive small batteries and not the same risk as the electric car fires we hear about. The reason the old chargers work is they just continue to put out charge and the battery decides when to stop taking charge. The newer "smart" and multi stage chargers don't interface with the batteries built in limiter and reduce the charge before full battery charge. Of course there are chargers dedicated to lithium ion batteries available too.

I've been thinking about making a video sequence of the build from start to finish for a year plus. With my limited tech knowledge and not wanting to spend money for apps programs etc I couldn't find how... Trina made an album on her phone awhile back. Google converted it to a slideshow. I shared the individual slides to YouCut and that made me a 20 slide set-up.
