9 pointsI started working at the young age of 19 in the NYC Carpenters Union. At that time I used a Sears carpenters tool box which I modified to keep tools in place and be a bit more convenient. Since we frequently moved from job to job throughout city it had to of course have wheels so interior was customized to keep all tools in place when upright. For posterity sake my oldest son decided to recreate that box now long gone. I have to say it couldn’t get much closer even duplicating all the tools I had in it.

8 pointsI've been thinking about making a video sequence of the build from start to finish for a year plus. With my limited tech knowledge and not wanting to spend money for apps programs etc I couldn't find how... Trina made an album on her phone awhile back. Google converted it to a slideshow. I shared the individual slides to YouCut and that made me a 20 slide set-up.

6 pointsI come allone. Kati meant it is just on Tractas and the Gettysburg history - huh, so it is better you go allone. She don’t know what she shall do in that Time and buy stupid things she can do also here.... and a Man must do the Man things sometimes. 😎😁

6 pointsChambersburg all the way. No tourist trap. Places to eat all over and not super expensive. We stay at the Quality Inn. Big breakfast at the Chambersburg Family Diner 10 min. away down Rt. 81 on Rt. 30. Texas Roadhouse across the street a bit from that. Italian Rest 10 min away on Rt. 11. Waldo likes to eat at gas stations so don't follow him.

5 points@Tractorhead Don't go anywhere with @squonk he gets lost, talks about great BBQ places to eat. He can't find them or either they change into a Mexican Restuarant. If you stop to talk to him and blink your eyes he disappears. I think he was a used car salesman in a previous life. Just ask @rjg854 about his poor driving skills.

5 pointsI seen many in my time but not this greasy and oil/ and what else at 56 years old. So I have the time to do it right. I will clean every square inch. I had it all apart any way so I went one step further. Hope all of you have a great Holiday season.

5 pointsBecause i don‘t know how fast the Delivery of my ordered Sheetmetal is to enlarge my Snowblowerproject i decided also to Order me a Bigger Bucket for the FEL additionally. Why not selfmade? That simple the complete Bucket was about 50$ cheaper than just the cutted Steel itself. It just have the wrong mount but that is easy to rework. Yesterday the Bucket was delivered, sheetmetal wasn‘t . So i cutted from my selfmade bucket the Quickchanger hooks and welded them on the new Bucket on. after that i checked how good it will fit. 2 Angeirons of 5mm Steel fits perfect down as Pushforce spreader. So i cut 2 Angleiron Pieces with each 10cm wide and welded it onto the Bucket. At least i decided 2 M10 be enough stable to keep it in place against swing. here is a direct compare between both Buckets. the old Selfmade 85cm wide and the new 120cm wide. That size doubled the material i can movewhat is a huge benefit for me. the new Bucket is a lightweight Bucket but for my needs i believe it‘s perfect. now i can clean also directly close to the Curbs the whole road in next Snow until my Snowblower is ready.

4 pointsMy Plan for this years is definitely fixed, except i will die or the troubles with corona of the last few years. I like to plan it now much earlier ahead. My flight is fix planed from Munic to harrisburg, because from here it appears to be the closest Airport. I don‘t know how Transport connections there is. and how much is be the cost of a rental car compared. so maybe i need a rental Car or can i go by Train/ Bus to the fairgrounds from harrisburg? my Plan is Arrive on june,17. first to the Big Show and after the Big Show i want to visit urgently the Gettysburg Museum. i be strong interested in History. Further i have no fixed plan until now, but i like to have few Meets and greets from Forum members. In Washington D.C. i was a year after 9/11. Maybe you guy‘s have good suggestions what to make until june 28. The flight back to germany is until now open from where i fly back. I even think about for a roundtrip, but i have just 2 Weeks i can spent - sadly no more. Any suggestions are highly appreciated?

4 pointsSo I had to move some things out of the garage to get something in the back.... well as long as I had them out I might as well stretch their legs out. The other 2 didn't need to be moved so they stayed inside. Next time.

4 pointsWent and visited my 308-8 today…ran & drove it for 10 minutes or so.

4 pointsThe fairground where the Big Show takes place is in a remote location outside of Chambersburg and Gettysburg. There is no public transportation to and from there. If you can rent a car that may be your best option. There is bus transportation from Harrisburg to Chambersburg or Gettysburg but once you arrive you will want your own transportation. Many of us stay at motels in Chambersburg and I am sure you could ride to and from the show with one of us. Several groups go to dinner after the show and you would be welcome to join us for dinner too. Looking forward to meeting you.

4 pointsIf you're renting a car in York as a foreigner from outside the United States, you must bring certain documents. For instance, Canadian citizens will typically need either a Canadian-approved driver's license with their name matching that on the rental paperwork or a passport as well as their valid driver's license. If your country does not have English-language licenses, also bring along an English translation of the document. Some cheap car rentals in York will require an international driver's license. Your rental company may also ask for additional documents as they may deem necessary The only public transportation available would be by a Taxi or Uber. You will probably need to rent a car at the Harrisburg airport. Please research the driving requirements with the car rental company.

3 pointsI finally got around to putting new seals and o rings in the HY-2 pump and the cylinder and got those installed. Some day I’d like to find a set of HL-5 lights to put on this tractor, other than that this project is done.

3 points@Tractorhead Bring a rain jacket or umbrella. It always rains during the BS.

3 pointsLast year we stayed at an airbnb. It was a park model camper in a really nice campground & only 10min from fairgrounds. Completely furnished, linens, etc. Campground had a really nice pool & outdoor bar area where bands played Friday & Saturday evenings. Definitely cheaper & much nicer than a hotel/motel. Last few trips we have been staying at airbnbs instead of hotels/motels. My issue is if I'm going to bring tractors. Then I need to haul them. I'm planning to buy a truck in spring if all goes as planned. It's about a 5hr drive. Other option is to fly my plane there. I know there's a local airport close to fairgrounds. However, ground transportation seems like its an issue in that area. Last year I had to drive car there due to my back injury. Couldn't pilot a plane on pain meds & muscle relaxers.

3 pointsChambersburg is about 30-35 minutes out west of Gettysburg. If you plan to spend time doing the Gettysburg museums and tours it would make more sense to stay right in Gettysburg vs traveling an extra hour or so each day. The travel distance to the Big show from Gettysburg is about the same distance as Chambersburg or even shorter depending upon where you stay. Accommodations for me always depend upon if the wife is going or not. I just need a clean basic room with a bed whereas she prefers top shelf amenities to waste my money on! LOL Are you coming by yourself or with family?

3 pointsThe only published difference in drive ratios that I’m aware of was with the “-C” and “-HC” models aimed at commercial users. These had taller final gearing for more speed. The “tall tire” tractors (e.g. GT14, C-195) had the potential for more speed due to the larger diameter tires, as @8ntruck noted.
-
3 pointsAbsolutely agreed. Seems lately that nothing lasts like it used to so I tend not to buy newer hand tools unless it's an experiment. Electronic tools... Not much choice. I ordered two jump packs and two automatic chargers this morning. Also bought a 3 year warranty for a few dollars. They'll either last 3 years or be replaced for free.

3 pointsSteering wheel victory. Previous owner had replaced roll pin with Gr8 bolt that was frozen in place. Finally got it drilled out (oversize now) but wheel would not budge. Have used this method in the past but had to use the torch and get her glowing then wail away with a BFH and impact socket.. Once it cools I will clean up the top end of the shaft and the wheel will come off. The arm plastic covering was missing probably burned off by PO when he worked on it. Next challenge the hitch pin...wish me luck..

3 pointsWell my tie rod/ ball joint arrived today from @A-Z Tractor . Fast Shipping . I removed the old one and bolted on the replacement. Forsaken is back in action. Maybe in the spring I will replace both sides with new ones. For now I'm happy.

2 pointsCamping is available on the Show grounds for $20/night. Thur., Fri., and Sat. only. There is a shower and food is available by a local church. There are also Bed & Breakfast Inns available. Some of these are high dollar, but with some research, I have found some good deals with a great home cooked breakfast. BTW, one of my favorite B&Bs is The Poltl in Heidenheim, Germany. Within walking distance to our Voith Hydro corporate office.

2 pointsI always negotiate with the local manager. Usually can get a much lower rate than advertised by the big chain hotel management groups.

2 pointsCompanies vary using the word “motel”. The original use was to describe a lodging having only a few amenities that was conveniently reached by car in suburban or rural places--most often along a highway. Today, with so many brands each having their own set of price points and offerings, the word is of little or no use. There is one style of accommodation that is similar to what you have in Germany. Here, a “bed and breakfast” (or B&B) is very similar to your Gasthaus. The Airbnb website has created a central booking capability for many of these--the accommodations range from simple rooms to entire apartments (flats) or houses. Personally, when I need a place to stay but have no plans to take advantage of onsite amenities like pools, exercise equipment, or business centers I look to budget brands of hotels. These would be similar to two-star hotels in Germany. I typically use websites like Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Trivago, Priceline, or Kayak to get a sense of what hotels are in the area, the price ranges, and to check the reviews with a particular eye to cleanliness and room condition. Once I settle on a couple of possible places, I contact the hotel directly and negotiate prices and any restrictions (prepay vs. reservation, cancellation options, room types, check-in and check-out timing, etc.)--sometimes this requires more than one conversation. If you are already in an affinity program with a hotel chain, by all means consider their offerings first. I have stayed in hotels in Chambersburg and in Gettysburg. The former tend to be a bit less expensive but are a bit farther away from the fairground (25-30 minutes vs. 20-25 minutes). Chambersburg is larger and more spread out than Gettysburg. As for transport, I second the suggestion that you will need a car. As you already know, the U.S. is pretty big and our public transportation (outside of the large urban areas) is very weak. Biglerville is a like a very tiny dorf well away from the larger population centers. I’m looking forward to meeting you in person!

2 pointsThanks for that info‘s. with uber i didn‘t have any touch at all. My first and ‘til now last trip in the USA was several years ago. At this time my International Drivers license was Accepted by the Car Rentals without any further documents, but they urgently want to buy me an additional insurance for whatever reason. To be independent a rental Car is maybe the best choice. How about Motels? We have here Rooms or Hotels some called themself as „Motel“ here but what is the difference between a Hotel to a Motel in the USA ? Here i didn‘t see any differences. Any suggestions or advices for a Hotel or Motel address to start will be fine. I also think about to get me a Tent for the few Day‘s at the BigShow. As far as i know, there is a Camping Area arround there.

2 pointsThose warranties are something worth thinking about and doing some research on (of course, do research on the products first....) In a case like this, if the warranty isn't *too* expensive, it makes a lot of sense, as long as you keep your receipts and the seller/manufacturer has a reputation of honoring the warranty without making it a major pain. One way of looking at it is: Am I getting a product for $100 that I might have to replace at my cost in a year or less, or getting that product for $120 or a bit more, that I don't have to worry about replacing at my cost for 3 years? This got me thinking about warranties on electronics and appliances. Mainly things like TV's - if the TV is $200 and the extended warranty is $40-50, I won't buy it. I could regret it sometime but so far I haven't. I bought a 32" Insignia TV about 6-7 years ago, and did not buy the expensive extended warranty. It died after about 5 years (which would have been past any extended warranty anyway). Got a brand new BIGGER one for the same price I paid for the original one, so I'm not unhappy about that. If it had died after 2-3 years, I would have been a bit unhappy but still would have been able to replace it with a bigger (but better?) one for the same price or less. It's all a gamble. Cars & trucks, yes, I want an extended warranty for at least till the loan is about 3/4 paid off or more. I've been saved by those a few times. Which also makes me think about the "Lemon Law", which I've had to take advantage of twice. They were both a long annoying fight but I won in the end both times. To make a short story long, which I like to do, the first time I had the transmission blow apart on a Chevy high-top conversion van. Dealer replaced the trans. Then I said, "I have the same warranty on *this* trans, right?" Dealer said, "nope, no warranty on the replacement." WTH? I said, "Unacceptable. My lawyer will be in touch." A year and a half later I got ALL my money back, but had to drive a beater in the meantime. It was worth it.

2 pointsFinal gearing can be easily adjusted with tire diameters or changing engine and transmission pullies. Smaller tire diameter will act like a lower gear. A larger tire will act like a higher gear. If you think you want something between 2 high and 3 high, you have a couple of choices. You could run in 3 high with smaller diameter tires, or run in 2 high with larger diameter tires. 2 ply tires will act differently than 4 ply tires. The more plies in a tire, the stiffer the sidewall will be. Stiffer sidewalls make the rolling radius less sensitive to tire pressure changes. Stiffer sidewalls will make the tire less likely to mold the tread contact patch to the ground. Using a larger engine pulley will act like a higher gear. Using a smaller transmission pulley will also act like a higher gear. Going the other way, with a smaller engine pulley and/or a larger transmission pulley will act like a lower gear. Changing pulley diameters might require a different drive belt. Changing pulley diameters will also change the position of the belt relative to the belt guides on the belt guard. Adjustments might be needed in the belt guides to get a good clutch action. If you keep the sum of the engine pulley diameter and the transmission pulley diameter the same when you make a change, you should be able to use the same drive belt. Good luck.

2 pointsBy using the gear ratios posted above and a pulley size calculator like this one, https://www.blocklayer.com/pulley-belteng You can mathematically figure out what you want. There are plenty of calculators online to convert the axle rpm into ground speed. Tire diameter is a big variable and different size tires can be used to adjust the ground speed. RPM of the particular engine is another variable you will need to know and it's also a way to "adjust". Torque ratings for the different rpm can be found by using the engine model so staying in the top torque range is probably best. Any modifications to the engine is another variable to consider. As Achto pointed out, low range is LOW and probably not what should be used. Changing tires to a smaller size diameter for the different track and maybe some minor RPM adjustment could be enough and the easiest way but IDK
-
2 pointsSome of that might take a couple of trips through the pressure washer and parts cleaner. While it's out of our hobbyist price range, a Dry Ice blaster would freshen that right up.
-
2 pointsI have no idea how old the belt was and never checked it for cracks. It might just have been its time. Didn’t investigate, just backed it into the shed and climbed onto another tractor with a deck

2 pointsI agree Totally in all Points @953 nut and @Handy Don If i had no such great Mentors in my Life, i would have maybe stopped on my Way earlier. Instead i never Accepted any no no from Anybody. A no no was allway‘s a challenge for me to show them - Look, i can do this. Learning is a continousely curve in our all Life and it never ends. It's not important from where you come from, but it’s important what you're be willing to learn in your Life. If you stop your learning curve it is ok. But than you have to Accept your Way ends here and here is your „Limit“ when you be not willing to learn further. We be never too old to learn new things, we just be sometimes to comfortable to do it. Personality is a basic but it can and it will be formed the whole Life if we want to. Each person is a different individuum, some learn things easier, some learn things harder that depends on the own but in the harder learning curve you need a good Mentor that see and recognizes and your Potential and the ability to push you to your Limits. The important lesson i have learned in my life is Selfdiscipline, the more of you have, the better it is for your own Future. This was for me the importantst lesson on my Way. Now it is on us „Ager‘s“ to see the potental in our Youngsters and push and form it to release their Potential.

2 pointsThe fact that you didn't say anything about a puddle of oil under it is a good sign. This indicates that there is not a hole in the block at least. First thing I would do is pull the spark plug out, hold your finger tight over the plug hole & spin the engine over using the starter. You should feel air pressure trying to get past your finger. If you do not feel any pressure, then you will have to disassemble the engine to see what happened inside.
