Hi Don, thanks for your Kind words.👍 I never be hard to any beginners. We need them, so scary them is a worse idea. The idea was to win new qualified Members, not to scare them for the Job or even Company. We all (me too) learned things from the beginning, no professional was anytime fallen out of Heaven. (except he forgot his parachute) I like the situative reaction on Trainings.

Thanks, i be the Head of Electrics In our Company since about 12 Years. Because of troubles to find good skilled Workers we start now with the whole Company to educate our Newbies by ourself from scratch. Therefore a bunch of Professionals was sent to the Certification process. I was one of them and be proud i made it in first Try.

I say try the seal. You've had good luck, know the drill, and can have @Achto do the work while you mix the drinks... er, manage...

I well remember how even after 17 years of education, how much I learned while “on the job.” I am quite thankful for some of my early managers and co-workers for the help they gave me. Over the years, though, I came to realize that my employers wanted less and less to invest in training anyone. They wanted immediate productivity. Too often I heard “if we train them, they’ll just leave and go somewhere else afterwards” as the excuse. And of course, once the idea was out there, it became the norm for more and more companies. I still feel sorry for new entrants into the workforce facing this. One company I served as a consultant, however, used some of my work to discover that at one of their factories more than 40% of an already lean workforce was within five years of retirement. It caused quite an uproar with management and they started putting a lot of effort into training, mentoring, apprenticing, and targeted hiring. They even started a program for local high schools to encourage students to consider preparing for the high-tech manufacturing jobs they had to offer. I heard back later that it was a struggle but they were able to maintain a viable workforce.

Ah the mystery! Yes, ’61 & 62 were 1-piece, and ’63 & 64” were two-piece. Square hood in ’65 with “pillow” tanks. And yes, my screws were all ¼” hex on the 854 tank. 2¢ here is that isn’t an original tank and none of the screws are original!

Here is a pic of my 653 two piece tank. It' a 63. I used red kote and sealed, with good results. The tank in your pictures has definitely been open. I would be hesitant to try to get those screws out. Slotted ones are common galv/zinc, but phillips look like could be stainless, that would be a bear to drill out if broken off. "Sorry EB" On one hand it has been open recently, on the other how well was it "repaired" at that time?

If you’re really really good at welding. A pin hole is all you need to leak.

I have the same issue. I think I’m going to replace the gasket then red kote it. All my screws came out so I’m all good there.

I got a 'bitsa' as we call it. Bits of this and bits of that. It came with 518-H hood stickers but is a six forward and two reverse manual box. Has a single cylinder Kohler motor and no VIN/identification plate. Closest I've come up with is a C160. I'll post up some pictures tonight.

Please forgive me if I didn’t see this. Have you gotten the starter/generator on it, and verified that it’ll run, drive, etc? I think that should be priority #1. Then, it’s all up to you for restoration or usage the way it is

We called them "MAYPOPS" when I was a kid. We always bought used recapped tires at the junkyard already mounted on a rim for the price of the rim. Saved them from having to remove the tires from the rim and saved us from having to mount them. The amazing thing is they held up well, never had a blowout and most of them actually had some tread left, not much but some!

I have used this product call seal all it has worked well for me over the years. As long the surface is clean it works. I use an syringe with a screw on tip on the end. Enjoy the ride!

Hmmm... my 502 came with a 2 piece tank, the 702's and the 701's had a 1 piece tank.... Either way, that tank is worth fixing - even the 2 hood screw speednuts seem intact and not broken out. The big advantage to disassembling the tank is it allows you to do a thorough cleaning on the inside surfaces. One more "fix" option not yet discussed. Disassemble it, remove all traces of the gasket, and TIG weld it back together.....

Tires will be upgraded. Looking at building 15” rear wheels for this and installing 29” Tru-Powers. Then throw a larger set of AG’s on the front.

Besides my Wheel Horse C160, I have a 1966 Cub Cadet 123, a 1981 Speedex 1631, and a 2009 Craftsman PGT 9000. I used to also have a 1994 Craftsman GT 6000, but I sold that to an energetic young man that wanted to mow yards.... made an investment in him.......cut him a wayyyyyy good deal. It was worth it..... he is 20-somthing now, still mowing yards, doing fiberglass repair, and paid CASH for a new truck recently.

I’ve sold off a big part of my collection, still have 4 or 5 Wheel Horses, but no other garden tractors besides a Choremaster Model B that is currently disassembled in the back of the barn. Sold off several of the farm tractors as well, we still have 2 Farmall Ms (1951 and 1952) a 1949 Farmall C, a 1940 Farmall A, and what I believe to be a 1957 International Cub LoBoy. All of which are projects except for the C, which is our main worker around the farm

I have a tank gasket in stock, yours if you wish. If I remember right, My 753 had hex head screws on the bottom of the tank. Will go out & check my 633 in a few minutes.

Kinda already know where I am leaning on this but would like some advise. 502 two-piece leaks. Sat for who knows how long so gasket dried up. Get a gasket from Lowell or seal it? I have a kit of KBS sealer that did not fail me on a Tecky tank and I have a tank off the Amigo that I need to use it on. The kit will seal at least two or four small tanks and still end up wasting some. 502 tank is clean as a whistle as AL tanks should be so sealer should take well. Someone's been it it it before. Afraid to mess with them screws to replace gasket.

Ok after that Picts - a Resto on your Wheelhorse should not be a problem at all. parts are easier to carry and it appears you be best prepared with your Wporshop. Btw: @VinylguyTerry make fantastic Decals if you like

Thats the bigges challenge we must solve now with preperation on new Workers. Find skilled workers is hard, find ambitious skilled Workers is nearly impossible. I had a few Mentors in my Life, i remember even after 30years+ all their names. Most of them reacted situative - as i do now. That was a good Way in my memory. But they also be strict on advice especially if safety was suggested, here was no room for Jokes. All other was more less depending on the situation.Sometimes funny, sometimes little stressy. But independently at all What i like to remember most, they give me allway’s the feeling, i be a important part of what we‘re doing. Give the newbies a chance to show you what they can archieve. That‘s the Way i preferr to continue.

So a few things happened in shop class first I found out why the throttle was not working I readjusted the gov arm and it was definitely better but not great I then noticed the coil had slipped down and was jamming the linkage 🥲 I also found out that my gas tank repair was futile and it still leaks gas, I plan on using a soldering gun to fix the hair line crack down the side and it's empty so I shouldn't die 👍

I'm definitely with the seal it crowd. Even with replacing the gasket it's going to seep out again. I've used Red Kote several times with 100% success but I'm sure the KBS that you have will do the trick too. I do take it apart to get everything spotlessly clean and replace the gasket but I don't rely on the gasket to seal it. I put a sacrificial nylon fitting in the hole just in case, I only use enough sealer to let it flow around the gasket area. Maybe 1/4 cup.

I believe the motor has been replaced unfortunately. I would of loved to have it all original but that’s a lot to ask for. This is a pic of the belt guard and I have some more. Also the gas cap looks like a modified one that doesn’t fit. If I could find an original or an after market one that is like the original that would be awesome.

I've never seen any actual evidence that has a good long term reputation. If I could find a long lasting commercial grade foam fill that was DIY and inexpensive I'd absolutely do it.
