8 pointsThey are 3" tube, tabs welded to keep it from sliding side to side on the jack. The tabs on top sit inside the frame to keep it under the tractor. They only stick out about a 1/4" on each side of the tractor frame, this allows almost the whole tractor to be assembled while on the jack.

5 pointsMy youngest grandson just turned 12. He's known for several years that he wants to fly. Today he got his first flying lesson. Doing everything except takeoff and landing, the instructor allowed him to fly the airplane (Cessna 172) by himself. I am so proud of my grandkids and the fact that early on, they have their heads screwed on straight and have a direction in life.

3 pointsWell, here we go again. A real nice fella helped me out by mowing my lawn when I was hospitalized for seven weeks... He used his deere and my 314-8 to get my acre of heaven mowed. Just after that , a guy noticed that while he was hauling his tractor to the shop or the dump that by friend's tractor matched his own and offered the twin for sale at 200. They made a deal in the parking lot. i I checked a taryl fixes all video and taryl showed an exact tear down and repair video for that very engine. The reason for two tractors is that a Deere of that vintage is a big job to change from a mower to a snow plow. cant blame him for that. I invited my benefactor to bring it into the shop and after scraping and vacuuming and blowing dirt off the thing, I finally got the bottom pulleys off so it could be removed. Its a bucket engine that comes apart from the bottom and you tear it apart upside down. The engine is notorious for having a plastic cam gear that sheds teeth, but this one was a later model and it has a metal cam gear----yAY! The thing is stuck, but it looks good inside. The valve covers are off and the valves appear to not be stuck. The push rods move in and out against the springs. The engine seems to be seized. i flipped the spark plug side up and sprayed Deep Creep inside, but with the pistons at opposing angles, the penetrant will not be evenly sitting on top of the piston. i have the thing mounted to some 2x6 to keep it upside down, but the thoughts are to either fill the tops of the pistons up with 0w30 full synthetic or make a modification to set each piston in the vertical on alternate days and use Deep Creep. I might even be able to get a camera attachment into the spark plug hole to view the piston bores. I intend to be patient with this one. First the pistons, Then if it does not break free, examine the crank shaft rod ends .She's sitting high and pretty on the adjustable work lift because my old back makes it a good idea. Pictures are coming...BTW, i must admit that the tractor is heavily built with power steering. Hopefully we can repair it with just some gaskets and perhaps check the water pump.

3 pointsI've had good luck with Briggs over the years. That I/C might tell you it has steel cylinders. You'll want to remove the heads and see if the bores are outta round. Some opposed twin engines tend to wear the bottom of the cylinders.

3 pointsI will get one once I find out what fuse @SylvanLakeWH used on his A-60. As I remember it had to have one of the holes modified to fit. Jim, you are being too good to me. That will give me something to do once I have it home. Looks like there are two roller bearings and an "O" ring for a seal.

3 pointsAnother thing that I would address if this were mine. The main fuse holder. Looks like it has been cobbled. I cleaned it up best I can ... new terminal end here or ther but connection posts are questionable and too small for my liking. Looks like it has a fuse of sorts but??? I might be just being anal here but both Dan and I have this nasty dirty filthy habit of doing things right and somewhat professional. Suspect it goes back to our days when we worked in shops and didn't want customers coming back to I would install a mega fuse holder or a midi might fit better. The one piced is a snow plow 250 Amp mega bad boy but fuses are common in lots of sizes and all over the jungle. I don't remember what was on Sylvia's.

3 pointsSeveral years ago a fellow had a Unidrive with a plexiglass window in the top of it. It was operated by an electric motor and running rather slowly but the 90 weight gear oil was slinging all over the place. I would be afraid the Corn Head wouldn't get to the upper gears and the outer axle bearings.

3 pointsIt is in fact, verified, a USA made Kelch Brand cap. Same as OE Toro. Well folks. The verdict. Thanks for all your comments. Combining the above info and thoughts Trina and I set up a measuring station with 3 tanks and 4 caps. Caps are the originals from the first two tanks and two replacements that prompted this thread. One old cap has a gauge. One does not. Plain black plastic. Tank #1. 1986 417A. All 4 caps fit and tighten fine. Tank #2. 312-8 with a Toro hood. Year unknown. Low hours machine. All 4 caps fit and tighten fine. Tank #3. 1984 Workhorse GT 1800. The two OE OLD caps fit fine and screw on tight. BOTH new caps will screw on but immediately run past a thread thereby making it impossible to fully tighten. So we measured the tanks and caps. All 3 tanks were within a few thousandths of each other at the outside of the threads. Both the 417 and 312 tanks have threads with sharp edges. The GT 1800 tank has threads with a more rounded appearance. It also has a ridge at the bottom from an old cap (long gone). The two OLD caps were within a few thousandths of each other at 1.99 and 2.03 ID of threads. The two NEW caps both measured 2.08. We figure that the combination of rounded (worn??) threads and the larger ID of the new caps renders them unusable.

3 pointsJalapeno popper grilled cheese. Chopped fresh jalapeno, cream cheese, & a little garlic power for the popper mix. Bread (we used rye) popper mix liberally spread , a few strips of cooked bacon, Few slices of cheddar, bread. Our new house favorite.

3 pointsHi All. I am new to Wheel Horse ownership having just got a tired C160 which is detailed on the red square list as being in Scotland and original made in Belgium. It's missing a few parts and I have not tried starting it yet but one fairly major missing part is the rear seat and rear seat / wheel arch / fender unit. Just as a side note its also fitted with a pull start Kholer K321T Does anyone have a seat / fender unit for sale or know where I can get one. Thanks in advance for any replies. David

3 pointsIf the tire looks questionable - dismount it. If it shreads doing so, oh, well - it was time anyway. IF it dismounts fine, look at the beads and inner portion. ANY checking, anything that looks sketchy - give it the quick toss. NOT a job you want to deal with tire failure during a storm....... I recently gave a pair of OE 1962 Firestone front tires away, the met the above criteria just fine. He needed them more than I did......

Lot's of knowledge and info to find here aswell as a lot of good people.. few funny ones too Like @Mickwhitt said parts are a bit hard to come by but every now and then parts pop up at Ebay or FB marketplace. 3 pointsHi there, welcome to Red Square. And welcome to the wonderful world of Whhelhorse tractors. I have a C125 8 speed which I renovated from a similar state as yours. There aren't as many spare parts sources in the UK as over in the US but there are people out there with bone yards from where you can get lots of parts. I would pop a wanted ad on this site and see if anything comes up. Or just keep hitting ebay looking for wheelhorse spares. I registered my tractor so its road legal and that's fun being able to ride round on it if I like. Before After As you can see i was missing a seat pan and i found one via ebay.

3 pointsBryan there are a couple of things that may fix the charging problem. Start by cleaning and tightening ALL electrical connections including grounds. A bit of corrosion at any connection can cause some voltage loss. The second on is to take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested as @Pullstart suggested. The loss of power issue could be a bit of crud built up in the fuel system preventing the engine from performing as it should. Use some Seafoam or Barrymans fuel treatment at about three times the recommended rate for a couple of tanks of gas and you probably will see an improvement.

3 pointsI love the pipe hanger idea, but I'm going to make the 2nd gen version out of 3" channel. I can cut little square notches for the axles into the ends of short pieces of channel. This is amazing! I'd like to build a whole tractor cradle too since the motorcycle jack can definitely handle the weight. My 69 raider 12 is a little on the custom side (mud mower with transmission braces, so I think I will prototype something like this out of wood for my specific application then build the real thing down the road out of steel. Thank you for the idea!

3 points60F and sunny yesterday so I rolled her outside and gave her a bath. Cleaned up real well. Picked up a new TSC drive belt. $26.99 Perfect fit. A few months back there was a discussion about weather the belt retainer on the idler pulley helped to stop the belt from moving for smooth gear shifting. I didn't have a gear drive at the time, but now am able to demonstrate how effective this belt brake really is, I am aware the early gear drives did not have the stationary tab where the belt could be pinched by the moving retainer on the pulley. Take notice, this is a new stiff belt and there is no belt guard or belt guides around the engine pulley, but the belt stops instantly when the clutch is depressed.

3 pointsI started flying at around 12yrs old also. My grandpa had a Cessna 172 at that time. He had a few planes through the years. They lived on a farm so he had a private grass airstrip. He would fly in to pick me up on a Friday afternoon when school let out- we lived 1/2mi from small airport. We would fly back to my grandparents where I would spend weekend with them. Sunday afternoon he would fly me home. I remember flying to Seven Springs, Niagara Falls, & other destinations to get lunch or dinner. Grandpa has been gone for a while now. I'm still flying what was his last airplane. Beechcraft Bonanza V-tail. (aka- the Dr. killer) Flying is a great hobby......

2 pointsThe 12.5 flavor was the smaller displacement version, 40ci still though, they were good engines, starters were a problem..nylon gears, nylon bendix..and it mounted on the bottom.

2 pointsMine has a k181 swap as well, totally doable though I bought it that way. An atv battery had to be used in place of a standard garden tractor battery though because of fitment issues.

2 pointsThe wheel and adapter came off amazon. I just searched golf cart and it came up. I had to modify the adapter to fit the WH shaft. I have the gauges but am not using them.

2 pointsSwapped out the worn k181 on the 74 b80 4 speed for a rebuild I did a wile back. Only problem is I the engine looks out of place now ….I should of not painted it. Oh well it’ll get dusted up in no time
