Another Blackbeard update: Zach used it today to move leaves to the compost pile! the two “Flagship WH” tractors together. An early 70’s machine next to a late 90’s model… I have 3 sets of bags which works great. I fill a set, the boys put those in the trailer and haul to the pile. If I fill another set while they are gone, I change into the third set of bags and place the full bags on the ground for them to pick up when they get back. Pretty much non stop hauling across our two acre yard. Fun seat time and Blackbeard worked great for that task too🙌🏻

Not a lot of change today. Went to the Remembrance day presentation in town today. Waiting for the paint to dry on a lot of the parts for another day or two. I did install the brake band that was bead blasted and painted a few weeks ago. Installed using Stainless steel fasteners that I will use a lot on this build (you will notice the drum is held with a grade 5 steel bolt because I wanted a stronger fastener there).

Not only kids! Early in my career I took a job that sounded interesting. I discovered that a coworker was likely the second or third smartest person I’d ever met--a genius really--and I was intimidated at first. Sure I was smart, but no genius. How could I ever compare? Surprising to my younger (and then somewhat immature) self, he was incredibly generous with his knowledge, without any condescension, and I was a huge beneficiary. According to him he even learned things from me. His example shaped much of how I interacted with co-workers, clients, subordinates, and others for the rest of my career. By letting me inform him on occasion, he reinforced that giving is important, but allowing someone a chance to share by accepting their gift is equally important. There can be no givers without receivers.

Finally got around to adding the rock shaft kit I scored on ebay on the 520 today so hopefully I can throw my new to me tiller on in the spring and see how it does!

That is the last year for a 520H so it is the newest possible. The only thing that may hurt the value is the price and availability of parts for the Onan.

It's been cold enough to fire up the woodstove a few mornings recently, and I decided it was time to get moving on some firewood before I run out of what was left from last year. I have some logs from a few downed ash trees near the house, but leaving that "low-hanging fruit" for a day when I have less time. Took the trailer with chainsaws and stuff back to the woods with the GT-1848, cut and hauled 3 good loads back near the garage to split (by hand, don't have a power splitter. It's good exercise ) Got about half of it split too, will do the rest tomorrow. Still have at least 2 loads already cut still back in the woods, and another half a tree about a foot in diameter still left to cut. And that's just what is near the trail - I could probably pull 10 cords out of these woods from trees already down if I wanted to.

Thanks Uncle Jim—you know that he would love it and I’m sure that he could find multiple uses for it in the upcoming months/years! I anticipate that he will have this tractor for years to come! Thanks Pete…so many folks have invested in me over the years, I’d be a fool to not pass that along to my kids and others who are willing to listen/learn. I’m glad that Zach has a teachable spirit.

Well, Its nice to see someone has a Raider 12 in similar shape as mine. I inherited mine from my Dad, it does run and we use it to pull a cart around the yard. I'm currently trying to get the charging system back in working order so I don't have plug into a trickle charger after every use, although its fashionable now to have a "plug-in hybrid" I just learned about the breaker-less ignition, its not clear if my Raider 12 was converted, but it does have points now. While your hood has a nice chain ornament on it, mine has a cane holder, a spring loaded broom clip my dad mounted so he would have his cane when he tooling around the yard, if there's a story for the chain, its a keeper. BTW, check the transmission for water since it was outside, my dad kept his under tarps, but the trans was still filled with water, I drained it and oil flushed it several times. I wish I could say my Raider looks better, but it doesn't, although it does run better than before.

Be careful removing Magnum starters they can fall apart.

I haven't put a dog leg bend in the end of the Cable yet because it's not set in stone how it's gonna work. I know I need to change it from the 90 to straight but I need a bracket that my brain hasn't cooked up yet to make this work.

And their quality is getting better too. Especially with the Icon brand. I can't tell the difference between the Icon ratcheting wrenches and the Blue Point (Snap On) I bought 20+ years ago. And there are HF stores all around me and neither care which store I bought it at.

You need to create a “Z-bend” on the end of the wire core. You can get or make a special plier, but you can also do it with a strong needle nose and a regular plier. Google for YouTube demo videos! That said, looking at the way that linkage is set up, it doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before. Is that “T” gadget a fabrication?

Many outboard motors had a button on the bowl that released the gasoline for the past century. Of course the main purpose was to allow the engine to be carried horizontally.

I will say one thing about Harbo Freight, I have taken a couple things back and they hand me a new one. It is tough to find good customer service these days. I figure mostly because of the dollars and cents.

I remember working on a carb, I think it may have been on a Honda engine, that had a built in drain plug. Forward thinking.

@John c Removing safety devices isn't recommended but those darn things were more of a drivability issue than safety. They tried three ways to utilize them. A damper used with the spring, a dampening stop with the spring, and a strut without the spring. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried some other combination along the way as well. Personally I would remove all that crap. Just use a 108035 spring on the left side of the transmission. That set up has safely worked for decades and still does. For tractors that use a 5/8" drive belt I would suggest using an OEM belt. Make sure the pullies are clean and the idler is in good shape. Then make sure the belt guard is in place and the tabs are adjusted properly as mentioned. Your problem should be solved. My first experience with the belt engagement do dads was in 2009 when I purchased my 2005. It only had 100 hours on it and I got it for an unbelievable price because I'm sure the guy didn't know what he had. I got it home and started mowing with it. It would come to a stop just fine but when I went to reengage the drive it had a very annoying delay. I had no clue as to why because I had never heard of those new fangled devices engineered by someone who probably never drove a Wheel Horse. Well, I tore into it and parts started flying. Nuff said.

I was at an old friends house today and he has this for now. This is the only second wheel horse with a back hoe I have seen. He made every pice of this one minus the control parts but he still had to put it all together.. Hope you enjoy the picks. He wanted something newer and a auto. This was the third D250 he restored. A master mechanic. The deal was If I helped him sell the three he would rebuild my K181 for me.The Commando I have.

also in agreement with Ed Kennel. AT LEAST 3K! you describe a 'mint' shape tractor package. pics would be nice. according to google $6,950. in 1997 would equal about $13,255 today.

Maybe it’s just me, I think we are way over thinking this. Figure the depth from the top surface, center the bit to the large opening with an eyecrometer, drill away.

Sounds like your belt brakes are not working properly. Check to make sure you have full movement on your belt tension pulley, and that tension pulley bearings are good. Check the belt brake tabs on you belt guard make sure they are close to the belt when it is tight. All of the belt brakes should be with in 1/16" or less from the belt. There may be a belt brake on the tension pulley as well.

@Treepep I probably would have kept using my little charcoal space machine if not for the Christmas present of the Traeger. I don’t know what she paid, but Mrs. P got it on Black Friday at ACE hardware. That said, I have made some pretty awesome stuff on it, and I would suggest that only a percentage of the quality is due to my own input. Today I’m trying something new, winging it you might say. I haven’t mixed the meat with the wet stuff yet, but the white sangria juice is tasting amazing after an hour of smoking! As for the blanket, it’s supposed to help retain heat in cold months but I haven’t removed it since installing it. I think it does a dandy job saving the pellet supply, it am I sacrificing savings for less smoke? Who knows. If the taste comes through like I’m hoping, I have a feeling this may become a favorite. It’s simple, very few ingredients and I think the taste will be spectacular.

Got the new to me B80 8 speed going. New seat installed I got at the show this yr. and a 36”deck I refurbished a couple yrs ago. Next on the list is some bigger rear tires .

When i was a teen i worked in a small town garage in the Summer. Remember the vets stories and did not know at the time not stories but a history lesson. I looked at a search on the web and found these gov numbers of persons that died during wars. not always in battle but during the war. The numbers are staggering. And not counting the endless amount of wounded or deformed.

The tractor alone sold for over $5K in 1997. A new cab $1500 and dual blower $2000. If I owned that tractor, I would be looking for $3k. I have a 1500 hour 1988 520H with cab and dual blower that I value at $2K. Just my

I took a junk ratchet to Lowe's and they didn't bat an eye. Just gave me another one as close to the model I had as possible.

IMO, a foot controlled hydro is a must when moving snow in small tight driveways. In the 5-6 I clear, I use reverse as much as forward. It frees up both hands..one to steer with and one to operate the hydraulic lift.

Got a little seat time and turn some dirt last night. Always a good time behind the wheel

Hooked up the Agri-Fab lawn sweeper to the 418-8 and got to work! 6 loads in all ran through the chipper/vac and spread a cover mulch over the garden for winter.

What about 2 part epoxy putty. You can drill and tap it. Here's one kind, but there's a bunch different manufacturers.
