8 pointskpinnc...I am going to PM you with my phone #. Call me and also keep this thread going for those others that have an issue like this. We can save your 701 transmission. Promise. Oh, BTW, about the only thing you could use from an 8 speed trans to use in a 3 or 4 speed is the cluster gear. Here is the deal...being a 701, I am guessing that you just want it fo run? That being said, I would bet that most or all of the gears are salvageable. Electrolysis is your answer. The process only gets rid of the rust, not the good metal. If those gears are trash, the gears that are in your 2007 trans are the same gears that are in any 5025 up to 5053.

8 pointsBrake drum and input pulley installed. Wheel stud bolts installed with blue loctite. Wheels installed then frame pulled vertical for a couple of days to ensure complete draining of gear oil.

8 pointsDidn’t know where to put this super cool picture and so I figured I’d add it to the Zac-Man’s thread! We took a field trip day to DC today and he was set on wearing his “Plow Dog” sweatshirt! here Zach is looking across the reflection pond to the Lincoln Memorial! It was a really cool and historical day for our family! tagging the other LC buddies ( @WHX??, @Achto, @stevasaurus, @Pullstart, @Shynon, @prondzy, @Rp.wh)

7 pointsI came across this today, in a neighboring town. The ROTC is running the game ball from CMU to WMU, and according to the Google machine that is 118.2 miles. I had to stop and give them a little encouragement.
-
7 pointsYou need to split the tranny and see what you are dealing with before anything. Might not be that bad at all. Little noisy but this one sees regular use.

6 pointsSince I have four 520H's and one 520HC I decided to convert one of the 520H's into a 520-8 This is the tractor I decided to convert. I started by rebuilding a spare frame and used a transmission from a GT1600 (I know it is 1" axle 4 pinion). The 1600 is my next project. Welded a plate on the frame like the later 520's have. Frame sanded, primed, and painted. Transmission cleaned up, primed, and painted. Transmission bolted to frame.

6 pointsSometimes it's the situation a person finds themselves in, need a quick fix to get a job done, health all of a sudden changes, life priorities change. When I was younger and much healthier I couldn't understand that type of neglect but now my health isn't great and I definitely can. When I was younger and healthy I would keep my home and yard perfectly maintained, I took pride in keeping my vehicles and equipment clean, shiny and well maintained. In the end it's just steel and plastic, a tool for a job.

5 pointsThis past summer we put solar on our house. Our front roof has a 96% solar exposure rating which is phenomenal. There are rules about how much electricity you can produce based on the house's yearly load. The system is designed to produce 106% of my yearly requirements. On sunny days the twelve panels produce well over 150% and upwards to 350% depending on our usage that day. It has been active for three months and our electric bill has been zero for each of those months. Also, I am building up credit with the electric utility that will be tapped for those months I do not produce 100% of what I need. We bought our system and each month I put $250 back into the account to pay ourselves back. Regarding the roof. Like all things done on a home by a contractor there are permits and inspections and all penetrations of the roof are fully weatherized. I am not worried about the roof. We also had a new roof put on at the same time which has a warranty that will outlive me. @Achto @ebinmaine

5 pointsMy 56 and 58 RJs and a couple 1045s! One is semi restored and one is original.
-
4 pointsThat’s a GT-14. Appears to have quite the push bar up front..and I see a car with no reg plates. Is it at a repair/garage and was used to move dead cars?

4 pointsGreat picture, awesome place to learn stuff! When we visit places along the eastern part of the states, I like to remind the kids how fast we travel, but wars were won and lost on that soil, carrying not just a gun, but survival supplies, often in the coldest of cold, through nasty terrain, in all times of night and day. The history books that kids learn from in schools don’t explain the physical hardships of times, places, etc. Presidents have stood there, historical figures have eat, slept, fought and died there. Soak it in. I know Josh that you have that knack for painting a picture. I don’t doubt that your children understand the depths of the story. But this is a tractor thread so I’ll post this

4 pointsA tall shoot for a hundred bucks! That’s a good deal. I’d try to compound that paint and maybe some wax, I’ll bet you could bring it back.
-
4 pointsAh, um, possibly. I’ve vowed to find a good home for at least a year for that Lawn Ranger that I will NEVER use. But....then I kinda sorta got a mower deck for it and it’s still here.
-
4 pointsHow's this for a farmer fix? I did it myself today and it works like a charm
-
3 pointsWell I bought my first wheel horse Work horse 1848 just a few weeks ago. I can't tell you how much I enjoy it. We live on a little over 2 acres and have been using a cub cadet ltx1046 for all ground duties on the property. Got the wheel horse and what a difference. Anyway there is an older one locally for sale does not run but no mention on model. Was wondering if you all could help? I really enjoy wrenching on these machines so I sure even with an engine swap I could get it going.
-
3 pointsThis one finally almost beat me. Had this pretty nice steering wheel and wanted to save it. Did all the normal stuff, the pin can out but the wheel was stuck. Soaked, shocked, puller and no dice. I ended up removing the cap drilling out the excess plastic and put her in the press. 20T and is had to grunt a bit. I put a two piece sleeve on the shaft to get a close push fit along with the puller yoke. IMG_7448.mov

3 pointsYep Steve is 100% correct. When I got into @Achtos 701 I couldn't believe his butchery. One of the capped bearings went toast so a PO tried to put in a bushing. Even went so far as to make a patch for the now open end. The machining where the bearing sat was all buggered up but just enough good machining to seat a new bearing and fill in with liquid (JB) weld. Not going to the moon here... The first set of pics was for the 1055 project. Here's the 701. More horror... Fixed!!!

3 points@cleat, You should take a little more pride in your work… Just kidding, that is superb !
-
3 pointsAbsolutely agreed. I'm certain I'm just panicking since I wanted this tractor to at least be "correct" with minimal modification. Sounds great. I will call you tomorrow.
-
3 pointsNice touch to get the spirit up! We live near West Point and the game ball gets delivered by the cadet skydiving club. They jump out of a couple of helicopters, of course! It is one heck of an impressive show to witness.
-
3 pointsHad it drummed into me by the dealer service manager when I bought a pop-up camper trailer years ago. He was seriously intense telling me "EVERY SINGLE TIME you stop for a leak or to change drivers, check the trailer wheels. Wiggle ‘em and check for bearing heat. Check the lugs and pressure before setting out (and if you find a loose lug, don’t just tighten it, find out WHY is is loose)." I was a noob so I listened and so far have never had a towing issue. 🤞

3 pointsI was putting on the single stage snowblower today and instead of washers I put a split collar clamping stop on the 3/4” diameter shaft that slides inside the lift tube. Works great and much easier to adjust the lift height. they cost no more than $10.00 depending where you buy them
-
3 pointsIt certainly is! You 2 guys are the best for hooking Richard up like this. Now I hope you understand why I didn't want anything for those parts. The thread is OK Mike and Randy @Mike'sHorseBarn@rjg854 it is the people here on Red Square helping each other that are soooooo Awesome Each of us has offered help to one another and is what makes this group the best.

3 pointsToday's solar generation so far and the other image is the amount we have generated since installation.
-
3 points@SylvanLakeWH The cost of the solar was approximate 20k. When looking at payback keep in mind that currently you get 30% of that back off the top of your income when doing taxes making the investment much more attractive. My pay back will be in five to six years. My average electric bill is less that what I am putting back in to my account, but I do not have an exact number. My wife pays the bills I and I ignore them completely. I just spend until she tells me to stop.
-
3 pointsSolar power is a great alternative. My only issue with it is that it involves either drilling holes in your roof or taking up land that will no longer be useful for anything else. Don't really care for for either of these side effects.

3 pointsI helped chaperone a class trip of 6th graders to Valley Forge (seems like eons ago). Whoever planned it was prescient. it was winter--very cold and windy. When the students realized the minimal shelter and facilities that the soldiers had to endure there it was like lightbulbs going on all through the group. Sometimes, you just have to be there for it to make sense.

3 pointsI had a dream about going on a bike rally last night. I am barely man enough to hold my bike, wife and my butt up off the pavement. When we used to do 100-200+ bike rides, it blew my mind how much booze flew out those establishments. Yeah, I’ll have a Shirley Temple on the rocks!
-
3 pointsYES - Takes quite a while to fully charge. Thanks! Hhhmmm... gonna need to look at that later today... I do not think mine has that... See pic below... Hope this all helps...

2 pointsthe new London day , local newspaper , on line , NOV 5, Maine power costs article , just a thought , with all your projects , how about a sun following , solar power sun following grid ? guy not to far from me , has one , open field , has to be at least 15x15 ft. that moves on its own swivel point . it follows the sun , charges batteries , and makes power , you might try this out on a smaller scale , your interest , creativity could surely come up with a change to your costs , WWW.THEDAY.COM . sparky , Pete
