10 pointsSo a couple of weeks ago @953 nut PMs me and says he's got a line on a A-60 on flea bay. Says the missus needs a ride around the ranch. Perfect this fits the bill Fairly local and asks me if i would be willing to score it and see about haulin help to get it to him. You kiddin me Richard this is what we live for! So after much finagling with the seller @Achto and I go to get it. Well the seller is somewhat of a dingus and delays our arrival time so we have to kill some time so we shoot down the road to a Cabelas wher Dan proceeds to kick tires on and wants me to buy a 40k fishin rig. Had to keep reminding him just 'cause we ain't hungry don't mean we can't look at the menu! Got out of ther with my skin and a nice $30 shirt jacket tho. I digress... So we proceed unto our pick up and get her loaded. Never really looked it over as a done deal but were out splity lick. Not NOS as yours Sylvia but still worthy of the asking price. Really ironic thing of it all is this same bozo or a relation had it for sale on CL in 2018. I made a play on it and posted pics here but the seller reniged saying his kin wanted it... whatever... Ohhhh you clowns wanted pics of the tractor... my bad... only got one or two for now but since we like Richard and Sylvia can...nevermind... many more pics when Dan sobers up...

7 points1971 Wheel Horse Raider 12 Whats up gang! Today is a good day because I finally took possession of this Raider 12. When I bought my house a year and a half ago this old wheel horse was sitting out behind the garage at the showing. I thought it was so cool and asked for it if it would be agreeable to leave but instead they gave it away for free! We recently hired a trash guy and it turns out he had it and agreed to give it back. Probably because it’s got a long way back. I intend to return this thing to new. It seems that the hardest parts will be the dash panel and the seat. The dash plastic has shrunk and cracked like crazy and the seat frame is salvageable, but the upholstery is toast. Nothing is seized including the engine which also seems to have compression. I’ll get some new gas in and see if it runs, but even if it does I will take it down and check the specs and address some fluid leaks. This project will take a while as I am expecting a baby in January, but I wanted to show another Wheel Horse that is saved from the scrap yard and put a placeholder which will hopefully pressure me to follow through with this thing! Nice to meet ya’s and hope you guys enjoy my journey bringing it back. I can’t afford a muscle car project so the tractor project will do it

7 pointsSome more photos! I even found some original paint! Does anyone know what the correct muffler setup was on the 71 Raider 12? Was it this longer style muffler as in the picture, or the small round one? I see the breakerless ignitions stink. If it runs, (the people who owned the house said it did) I’ll let that coil live the rest of its natural life and convert to points later. I’m really excited for this project. I like “older” everything. Cars, records, houses, guitars, etc. I’m on the fence about plowing with it this year.

6 pointsI was putting on the single stage snowblower today and instead of washers I put a split collar clamping stop on the 3/4” diameter shaft that slides inside the lift tube. Works great and much easier to adjust the lift height. they cost no more than $10.00 depending where you buy them

6 pointsThe wheels I have put in my press made a big BANG when they finally let go. Almost made me do a big BANG in my britches!!.

6 pointsI fixed the return spring on the pedal today Like @ebinmaine says, "Use what you have!".

6 pointsIt certainly is! You 2 guys are the best for hooking Richard up like this. Now I hope you understand why I didn't want anything for those parts.
-
6 pointsI rarely buy anything from TSC at all because around here they run a little more money than most places. Wally world batteries seem to treat people just fine. Biggest thing is to try to get one that has 300 CCA or more.

5 pointsThis one finally almost beat me. Had this pretty nice steering wheel and wanted to save it. Did all the normal stuff, the pin can out but the wheel was stuck. Soaked, shocked, puller and no dice. I ended up removing the cap drilling out the excess plastic and put her in the press. 20T and is had to grunt a bit. I put a two piece sleeve on the shaft to get a close push fit along with the puller yoke. IMG_7448.mov

5 pointsI've had my A60 for awhile now and i still can't find the drain plug or filler cap... Can one of you guys post pics?
-
5 pointsWell that isn't so bad. Remember my "523-H"? That started as a "euro" 518-H more than 10 years ago. Then I had some heath issues and it sat on my lift in the shop the whole time. When I finally came back to it and changed direction to the 523, that would have been a record for sure. ...but it still isn't finished. It's got foot rests under construction, and I just recently found a carb for it. It still has not moved under it's own power. So we're in the 11- year timeframe so far. Collossus and Molassus got nothing on my Procrastinus Rex!

5 pointsI may make the deck a tow behind with an offset hitch and weights on the hitch side. We have about five hundred feet of creek frontage that I can't mow the last few inches of for fear of ending up in the creek. If the weighted half of the deck is on dry land the other half can hang over the creek and keep it looking spiffy. Just have to barrow the A-60 from Mrs 953 when she isn't looking.

5 pointsHere is a pic of the tractor where it sat when we got there. Guy jumped on it & drove it on to the trailer for us. We weren't able to take it for a test drive before loading it, sooo. After I got the tires to hold air for a little bit (about 3min). Jim had to take it out for a test ride.

5 pointsBe afraid @953 nut... be very afraid... Nice score!!! Welcome to the club! Them curd fellers @Achto and @WHX?? are ok...
-
5 pointsNope deck came with it and not terrible shape. Sadly the lift hardware did not. But not a deal breaker for Richard's intended use. Batteries are Menards branded Richard. Common for this area. Date codes were not taken out but but newer. If I recollect the seller told me they were new circa 2018. They have the green dot on the top and they were completely charged according to that and a load test that we did confirmed that. Lookin good Richard. We figured at least 300+ worth of good batteries in it.

5 pointsHey @Ed Kennell I got one just like it, them two guys had 94% same DNA. The rod was spliced too. I added the loop to hold the rod when not connected to the handle.
-
5 pointsFor $50 it's like a sore @#CK, you can't beat it! LOL Pass the deal on to me at the big show, I'll take it because it's got CHOPPER written all over it! Maybe some ape hangers and an easy rider type fork extension. Imagine how cool you would look ride'n on the back with a football helmet on !!!!!!

5 pointsThe beast got a carb to tank fuel line replacement today. 20231105_133038.mp4

4 pointsI'm using that one the next time the honeydoo list is activated... "But I'm inertial honey. I can't stop this to do what you want because if I do, it will always be in your way"....

4 pointsI was advised one should have multiple tractors on the table. That way you can work on one while waiting for parts or paint to dry.

4 pointsI spread the roadapples that I picked up last Friday on Jays birthday. Spring will turn the apples into strawberrys, blackberrys, raspberries, tomatoes, peppers, beans, and flowers. Thank you Apples. RIP my friend.

4 pointsI plead the 5th. I started the D series build with high hopes now it’s just a pile of good intentions. I’m not saying another word about anyone else’s projects. Kinda taking a break myself.

4 pointsShe's got a road gear fer sure.Scoots right along. No.problem Richard. The general consensus was to put new shoes on all four corners. If you can get us some tires & tubes Dan would be more than happy to change them out. Gotta like the way I volunteer Dan's services right? It would sure make it easier to move around the ranch. The horses are always changing stalls. I will check out the final drive chain. It is very rusted and probably should be replaced and adjusted.

4 pointsDon't,know, with inflation being what it is that may seem like a bargain by next summer, Showed my wife the picture of her new ride and she commented on the nice warm fleece lined coat Jim was modeling. Thanks for posting up the thread and .

4 pointsWell ahh well ahh we didn’t go for it... 'Fish. It only had five live wells and Dan thought the Minn Kotas were a little under powered... I'm sure Dan would've loved to been fish'n off the back no matter how much trolling motor power up front there was! Meanwhile being all debt free and affording to suck beers all day! Woo Hoo Fish on!

4 pointsSo the next morning I hear some French and grunting coming from the ditch. So I tool down ther on the FEL and see what's goin on. Here hubby and his bro were trying to lift it on blocks had no jack. It was a lighter empty sno trailer Kev. My back hurt just watching them. First thing I says we need to get it off the road ... idiots fly through here at eighty. You guys ain't from around here are ya I says as I spy the fib plates. Well we figured it would be easier to work on pavement. Obviously no concern for ther own safety. So I pull it well in to the ditch, turn around and lift the side of the trailer up with the FEL so they can put their blocks in. Come git me when you get it fixed I'll get it back down. After some more French one comes stumbling up the drive. Did you say you had a hub? Oh balls here they thought they could put th old mangled studs back in with the splines gone and no threads left! Bearing cavity packed with dirt. Who knows what the splines looked like in the hub... they were packed full of dirt too. I says dude you gonna need a new hub. Lemme see what I got... I scrounge and find a POS. That I was saving for God knows what. No Timkens bro and innner races are shot I says but chrome don't git ya home. Being the nice guy I am I suggested they get a new assembly when you back to wherever you belong. How was the fish fry? Best I ever seen he says. Didn't have the heart to tell him the cook was out on work release. Least the guy asks whadda I owe ya. Nothing I says it was on the scrap pile...on the scrap pile did not register with him. Couple hours later I hear a bang. Musta been them pulling it off the blocks with the car. Good riddance I mumbled. Now you know the REST of the story!

3 pointsShe's got good bones. A little work and that machine will work for 30 more years easy. Congratulations on saving a solid tractor!
