8 pointsI washed the 701 down today, just because it has about 50lbs of dust on it. Then I swapped the seat to the square one and dug out the replacement tower I've had for 20 years. Then I put the tarp down to catch all the penetrating oil during the soak phase.

8 pointsThanks for reminding me to give an update. Each day gets a little better than the last. I am becoming more independent which allows my wife to enjoy herself rather than having to chofer me to PT and other places. This morning I was preparing a cheese omelet when my wife walked into the kitchen. She asked me where my walker was and I pointed to the other end of the kitchen. I'm not steady enough to go out in public without the walker but can manage OK in the house as long as I am near something to correct my balance as needed. I will be seeing a Neurologist in a couple of weeks to determine what can be done to correct the numbness on my left side.

7 pointsSo 9 at nite this gal comes stumbling up my driveway phone flash lite just a blazing. Do you mind if we park our trailer in your driveway? Tire issues. Sure... pull it on in. Hubby pulls ahead a foot and tire falls right off. Wonder why? Lug studs all over the road. Pull it in the ditch I got another hub and get some tools. Oh no she says that won't do we have no time. We need to get to the tavern for their fish fry... I says I guess you didn’t have time to check your wheels then either. You couldn't hear this thing rattling 50 miles ago? No hubby snores pretty loud...Well I bet this woke him up! OK I says pull it well off the road then busy stretch here. He barely gets it off the asphalt. Yep you come and get it in the morning then.

I've waited 6 months to be able to crawl in bed and it is dark outisde. I've always had this theory that we were a hybernating species...this time of year proves that... I"ll see you in the spring when we lose an hour. R.I.P.

7 pointsWent to the urineologhist to get a clean bill if health . Noticed on the way out if the driveway that the Mulberry tree was dropping it's leaves. Every leaf was down when we got back, so I raked them on piles and drug them back on a tarp where I will grind them into dust for their high nitrogen content. Pretty good considering I had spinal surgery about six weeks ago.

6 pointsI own what is likely the saddest 701 on earth. I had another one that was actually a bit nicer, but it needed a hood and I sold it years ago with a RJ and a Suburban in a package deal. Now I only have two roundhoods. This 701 has sentimental value. My wife got it for me almost 20 years ago for a Father's day present. As such, it's the only tractor that I have that I want to do a true restoration on. Or at least as close as I can. I modify everything, but this one just gets restored. Mostly... I had held off starting it for a long time over the hood of all things. The original hood had been drilled out, and I didn't like it. The 701 hood is unique, so not having it just really was a deal breaker. Thanks to @Chris G, I now have a decent hood to work with. The bad news of course, is this tractor is ROUGH. It's all there (engine and correct double belt guard and square seat pan are in my shop), but it's really in bad shape overall. On top of the obvious, the transmission will need a complete overhaul. The engine has compression, but will also need rebuilding. So this one will take a while. Every single part will need work. The frame and tower will be sandblasted. The front spindles are almost worn out. The list goes on... So, this thread will be a long one. Maybe not a "Collosal" one, but still... So today I drug the old tractor out of the barn and at least swapped the wheels and tires to the ones I'd planned to use, and swapped hoods. The whole tractor is in "soak" mode, as it will get some penetrating oil daily everywhere for a week or so. Then it will move over to my lift and get started.

6 pointsWe've been digging out several stumps that were in a cluster where the driveway used to border the forest. After the barn was built the trees stayed in place because I wanted to keep them. Issue there was the power company couldn't run the incoming line unless those trees were cut out. For a few months the stumps have been a minor bump in the yard. We want to get em out before snowfall so it'll be easier to plow. Made some headway. Started with the backhoe. Rest of the work is with shovels, hand hoe, and huge crowbar. Roots will be cut with a sawzall.

5 pointsI have recently purchased a couple of C165 Wheel Horse tractors. They will be working tractors for a small (just under an acre) vineyard, so will be doing a lot of grass cutting the alleys and also towing a sprayer. Aside from being shown the very basics to get the tractors moving, I don't know anything about them - so hoping to learn a lot from this forum! Both tractors are already in pretty good condition and currently don't have any plans to do any 'renovation', my main interest will be in keeping them well maintained and looked after so that they are reliable for working and last as long as possible. One of the tractors comes with a rotovator/tiller (not sure how much use I will get out of this) and the other comes with a 42" cutting deck. I think one was made in Europe and the other in the US based on the labels. The both look pretty identical aside from the have different back sections (I'm sure there is a technical term for it), one seems to be a bulkier, plastic section. From what I can work out with the model numbers they were manufactured in 1980/81.

5 pointsSo the next morning I hear some French and grunting coming from the ditch. So I tool down ther on the FEL and see what's goin on. Here hubby and his bro were trying to lift it on blocks had no jack. It was a lighter empty sno trailer Kev. My back hurt just watching them. First thing I says we need to get it off the road ... idiots fly through here at eighty. You guys ain't from around here are ya I says as I spy the fib plates. Well we figured it would be easier to work on pavement. Obviously no concern for ther own safety. So I pull it well in to the ditch, turn around and lift the side of the trailer up with the FEL so they can put their blocks in. Come git me when you get it fixed I'll get it back down. After some more French one comes stumbling up the drive. Did you say you had a hub? Oh balls here they thought they could put th old mangled studs back in with the splines gone and no threads left! Bearing cavity packed with dirt. Who knows what the splines looked like in the hub... they were packed full of dirt too. I says dude you gonna need a new hub. Lemme see what I got... I scrounge and find a POS. That I was saving for God knows what. No Timkens bro and innner races are shot I says but chrome don't git ya home. Being the nice guy I am I suggested they get a new assembly when you back to wherever you belong. How was the fish fry? Best I ever seen he says. Didn't have the heart to tell him the cook was out on work release. Least the guy asks whadda I owe ya. Nothing I says it was on the scrap pile...on the scrap pile did not register with him. Couple hours later I hear a bang. Musta been them pulling it off the blocks with the car. Good riddance I mumbled. Now you know the REST of the story!

4 points@Colby G Lots of folks are happy to help when able but you'd be better serving yourself if you started a thread with your own tractor and your own information. That way you can have quicker reference to finding the answers without all the information getting buried in several hundred pages of a general thread.

4 pointsI've done phone and internet based jobs in the past. It is not complicated. If a customer or vendor isn't available, you wait til they are. This time change is trash. It wasn't valid when some buffoon decided to enact it and it's even less so now in a 24/7/365 world. It's TIME for keeping TIME the same all year. I couldn't possibly care less what zone I'm in. Just. Stop. Changing.

4 pointsYou have a transmission that's 50+ yrs. old. The snow blower is quite heavy. I would bet my well worn C-160 transmission would do the same thing. My tractor loses speed up a small incline when it gets hot. I changed my transmission oil from 10w-30 to 10W-40 Mobil 1. Made a big difference.

4 pointsSo both days last weekend was put up garage door Saturday and put up opener Sunday. The wire for my wall switch was a little short so I had to reroute it. It came loose where I had spliced it together to pull it through the wall. Had to cut an access hole in the attic floor to retrieve the wire. So yesterday was move everything in the attic, decide what to toss. That took all day Saturday…😆 Today(Sunday), I patched the hole in the attic floor/ used screws because now it is an access door. The attic storage space looks a whole lot better. Most of what’s left is Christmas decorations, which we never use…

4 pointsAs you get familiar with it, the left rear rim looks like it has an oil coating like the rear seal is leaking. One of our vendors Wheel Horse Parts and More has the seals. Pulling the hubs can be a challenge. Don’t use a 3 jaw puller, it will break the hub. Come back to the forum for more details.

3 points1971 Wheel Horse Raider 12 Whats up gang! Today is a good day because I finally took possession of this Raider 12. When I bought my house a year and a half ago this old wheel horse was sitting out behind the garage at the showing. I thought it was so cool and asked for it if it would be agreeable to leave but instead they gave it away for free! We recently hired a trash guy and it turns out he had it and agreed to give it back. Probably because it’s got a long way back. I intend to return this thing to new. It seems that the hardest parts will be the dash panel and the seat. The dash plastic has shrunk and cracked like crazy and the seat frame is salvageable, but the upholstery is toast. Nothing is seized including the engine which also seems to have compression. I’ll get some new gas in and see if it runs, but even if it does I will take it down and check the specs and address some fluid leaks. This project will take a while as I am expecting a baby in January, but I wanted to show another Wheel Horse that is saved from the scrap yard and put a placeholder which will hopefully pressure me to follow through with this thing! Nice to meet ya’s and hope you guys enjoy my journey bringing it back. I can’t afford a muscle car project so the tractor project will do it

3 pointsDon't think Toro made it, but it is a ground ripper,that is what it looks like to me. They normally have a curved sharp point that goes in the ground. It is used to tear up hard pan ground.
