Several years ago, I purchased an 875 from a gentleman in western PA. Just last week he contacted me to let me know that he had found some Wheel Horse clothing along with some parts. He sent them to me. In the box was a tee shirt and a sweat shirt with this embroidered tractor on it. I've been to a lot of shows and seen a lot of Wheel Horse stuff, but never seen this one.

My shop and sheds got hammered with hail a couple of weeks ago and I think I want to go to metal roofing. It seems to having a longer lifespan and I like that is can be recycled if needed again. Any advise on what system to use and maybe point me to some video's about it. My son and future son in law need some extra money and thinking we will do it ourselves. It is just a 24x24 garage and a shed half that size. Low pitch as well. My son in law to be's Dad does roofing for a living and I know he will give us some advice, but it seems one of you guys is always an expert and have never given me bad advice yet!!! I just finished painting my shop and the little shed a month ago to match my big shed. State Farm estimator will be there tomorrow. Thanks in advance for the help!!!!!

only 2 I know it’s common practice to lay furring strips down and roof away, but I would never recommend that, even to my evil neighbor. Well…. Reason being, is metal will condense with temperature swings. Condensation will run down the underside of the steel, then hit the furring strip dam and eventually rot it out. Research local code, what is acceptable for going over, total layers, etc, then decide what to do. I don’t know about your average summer heat index, etc and too much heat is never great on structures. On the other hand, if it isn’t leaking and you go over it, it’s essentially another layer of protection. I prefer a premium underlayment no matter what I am roofing, it becomes the waterproof membrane. If insurance is paying for it and you’re doing the work, you can surely afford a good underlayment. This stuff I recently used was a foil backed bubble wrap type stuff. No matter what you decide, do not cheap out on ventilation! It is as important as the roof itself!

My 1961 701 is my favorite tractor! It does ha r the Hein Werner hydraulic pump for lifting mid and rear attachments which is a very nice feature on round hood wheel horse garden tractors This one has the CBR-327 front chain drive cutter bar which was pictured with the three other ones at the Big Wheel Horse Collector’s Club Show in Pennsylvania in 2022. Mine has some unique features like the chromed dash (came from a 702 but made to fit 701 style). And the stainless hood hinge for lifting) To each his own in their live of their tractor! Fan gear & support a one-off too. Otherwise Bill nailed it. Just my absolute favorite 701 pic. @Lane Ranger on the far left. You'll not see finer examples. BS 2021

Just for giggles I finally used my Harbor Fright buffer to get the last wet sand swirlies outta my 523-H hood. The few light spots are actually reflections from the ceiling, so it definitely works! Before and after below. Had a little haze left over from the original paint job. All gone now.

It’s done. Decided to make it a “ portable bench top” unit. Rather than having its own stand it is more versatile this way and does not take precious floor space. When not in use it can be placed out of way. It’s heavy and stable and along with the rubber feet it does not have to be clamped to bench although it can quickly be done using a holdfast. At my bench it has the perfect height. Switch is a simple one at plug since it will always be plugged close by. Made some functional improvements to guide such as making thrust bearing adjustable. It functions really well and smooth staying adjusted. Ninety years after its birth it has a new life which will extend well beyond my great grandchildren’s life. IMG_4518.mov

Well I was gonna see who jumped me first… To be straight up, I agree with @c-series don, who I believe has said something to the effect of Work Horses are Wheel Horses through and through. more than once. I love my 1984 Work Horse GT-1600. I was just seeing what would happen, but no one wasted their energy…😆

When read, does it make me want to take a closer look? I see this word used in many ads for WH tractors. I kind of knew what it meant, but that is according to wine. So I looked it up. The word wears many hats. As a noun it can be as simple as a good example of a style from the past. It jumps up a notch and then it can be quantified as a group of things that were produced during the same particular period. Adjective wise it might be the best use when comparing to our trusty WH’s. Something old of high quality and lasting value. Just some of what I found. I suppose to sum it up, just a fancy filler word that might just get a little attention. Marketing you know. I have a lot of “vintage stuff”……Most people would not even consider paying money for.

Does one out of three qualify me as vintage?

Don't tell Kev I said this he'll get a big head...but his roofs do look nice... T-111 siding Randy? I woulda been real tempted to cover that with steel too. Best thing that I did to my shop. This was over RB & B ... same junk as T-111. Get to be my age maintenance free is a real winner.

I, myself, could be considered vintage....

I've installed 2 Napa 610-1051 (Facet) electric pumps on 2 tractors with no regulator and no issues.

I just acquired a Wheel horse 520 H Toro Wheelhorse tags tell me it's model 4120OE03 serai number 2001280 Like so many others I'd like to determine what year it might be. I'm going to eventually sell it and I suspect that at ONLY 241 HOURS AND IN IMMACULATE CONDITION ,,,,it would be of good value. Can anyone help with the year please ? Thank you Dan in Derry NH

As mentioned, the 701 was WH's first front engine tractor, and the first to use the classic 2 piece 4 speed Unidrive (with a straight shifter lever) Also had a one year only double belt drive on the Starter - Generator, as that years K161 did not have an ACR (Automatic Compression Release) - the 1962 and later versions did. A 1 piece, one gallon cast aluminum gas tank, carried on with the 702 a year later. The 701 had a plastic removable dash plate fastened to the gas tank, the one on the 702 was cast iron. Rear fenders and support straps are specific to the 701 only. The was no notch in the hoodstand for a parking brake, as there was none. No small guard over that mechanism either. Bill Forgot one!! the 701 belt guard is flat - no embossed area for the model decal - no decal either!!

Your Work Horse definitely qualifies as the real thing. Same for Don's. When compared to what JD and Cub did with their "big store" models, it's a completely different animal. Mechanically the same machine with different engines, tires, and a few bells and whistles. But still a bleeping HD garden tractor!

Trina and I have been looking for a tractor for friends of ours. We've had several people contact us. We decided to go with this GT1800 from @Jayzauto Here's me Bear 🐻 EB driving it outta his shop. We picked up a cab and wheel weights for this rig as well. Also got a Single Stage Tall Chute Snowblower for me to try out. We already have a Dual Stage Snowblower that @PWL216 was nice enough to drop by the house last week. Our friends machine will be outfitted with that. I'll supply a 48" mowing deck too. They'll have a good complete outfit... And even better.... BBT as the Lead Maintenance Technician. Trina started tearing into the GT1800 today. Here's a pile of pics in no particular order. We'll have a few questions coming up as we've had VERY little experience with the 80s rides.

Yes, it is T-111 and it has some issues. But......I gave 10 grand for the property and the 2 car garage 8 years ago. I have added the big shed and luckily I bought it before Covid prices. The little shed I bought used for $200 and drug it home on my car trailer. I have about $500 in paint and my labor and I am just happy to have a nice place to play with my toys. The guy that built it knew about electrical, but nothing about pouring concrete of building a wooden structure. There isn't anything straight or level in the whole place. I can't imagine trying to make nice square metal siding fit it!!! I haven't put the tape to it yet, but I wouldn't doubt the roof isn't square either. I am trying to do the right thing but may end up going the easy route and just put shingles on again. I have a lot to process before I jump into the roof, it's not leaking at the moment, so I have some time to think. Thanks for all the help folks!!!! Randy

Nice looking outbuildings Randy. Steel roofs are the only way to go IMHO. Especially on sheds. Two types you may be interested in are standing seam or standard 3 foot steel panels with 9 inch ribs on center. I have both types so both work for me. You can go over the existing roof with panels if the shingles still lay flat. 3/4 boards 30 inch on center suffice. I wouldn't worry about foam as Richard suggested they are just unheated sheds. Pesonnally I would remove the shingles for sheathing inspection & replacement if required. You dont get a second crack at that. Standing seams should not go over shingles but there is a type of underlayment that is used. A plastic sheeting if I remember right.

@ebinmaine - Suggestion for 2025 calendar... Mythical tractors... You know, it would cut down on ink / toner just b/w calendar with text references to purported tractors "in progress"... It could be Colossal in its impact on calendar design... a Colossus undertaking, so to speak... Know any that might work?

Richard I never did say I was The brightest bulb on the tree.... It's possible I might run a little warmer than most. 🥵

Rather than stripping off the shingles I would suggest you run 2 X 4s lengthwise two feet on center and lay in some 1 1/2" foam board between them then attach the metal roofing over the foam. Added insulation and sound deadening all in one.

If he is driving the Wheel Horse 90% of the way he will need a big head start! OH, by the way, we do enjoy ribbing one another from time to time.

The 701 was the first front engine riding garden tractor made by Wheel Horse. They were a leader in the market for many years. This manual may be interesting to you.

Good looking machine, looks like it was adult driven too! Those are the most fun just tinkering and tuning maybe a bit of paint. Got to keep that choke on yap shut. Or shove a rag in it. Don't ask.

Jim raises a good point. We don't know what was original if we weren't there. Period. To clarify what Trina's looking for: "Close to original" means ~ to Trina ~ a tractor that's either restored or not and retains MOST of its original factory appearance. Maintenance DOES happen. Parts get changed. Things wear out. Perhaps the seat has been changed. Perhaps an implement added - either home shop built or factory - that still retains the factory theme. If an engine swap was done it's been neat clean and done as a competent Wheelhorse dealer would have. No color changes (like Cinnamon or Millie). No customs (like the mythical Colossus). Reminder on the quantity. She's looking for TWO tractors per picture. More is ok if the pic can be cropped. Carry on!! Post em up! If you remember a particular member that has a particular pair of tractors and they haven't posted please give them a "mention".

I kept busy the last three days " helping" a top flight roofing company for my house. I will show you some of their equipment in use. First is the use of aluminum pump jacks . The picture also shows the project is cut up into many planes and shapes. Then there is the roofing buggy. A self propelled platform that also opens to put a pickup truck full of roofing material. Then it can dump that material directly into a dumpster. Because I also had the company install soffet and facia, they furnished new 2x6 gutter board and framed suitable 2x2 support to level soffet back to the house. By combining pump jack supported walk planks and a knuckle boom man lift, they had two crews at once replacing rafter tails where needed and making my tired old house as straight as a rifle shot. Their equipment trailer was full of Milwaukee battery tools of every description. As a retired carpenter who is now off the ladders, I can recommend them for any exterior remodeling in the Preble Darke Miami counties. You find crews like this by asking at a locally owned lumber yard. I will be happy to refer them with a PM Three days with plenty of men all staying busy. They put in two twelve hour days to get the roof dried in with approaching rain

Warning...long post. I am humbled by all your kind replies. I am home now and had to recover for a few days again from trying to get something off the floor . Stupid me. When my back spasms I can seem to recover if I immediately get up and walk it off. My wife and I were talking about another mistake in that before surgery, the surgery team and I had settled how far the guy could go to clean out the garbage that had settled in my spine and were waiting for surgery the next day. Suddenly a transport team shows up unannounced and puts me on a separate gurney for transport to another floor of the hospital. A prep team shows up and soon a guy I did not know was in surgical scrubs ready to operate. I remembered hearing about an alternative method of confirmation that was deemed unnecessary after the spinal surgeon had examined a second MRI that he talked me into doing after personally promising to get proper pain management for the process. It might seem incredible to not remember this incident, but with all the pain and worry it becomes the fog of war. So a communication snafu almost cost me an unnecessary endoscopic surgery. I informed the second surgeon that I was pretty confident the spinal surgeon was satisfied with the second MRI and that I was invoking the right of refusal until he consulted with the main surgery team. Three minutes later the surgeon waved off the prep team and they vanished without any explanation My wife and I were clueless to what had happened until the transport team showed up and took me back to my room. The surgery was inserting an endoscope through my chest and working it behind the heart and lungs to take a picture of the infected tissue on my spinal cord and sheath. I might have forgotten this without my wife's help because of painkillers, but we pieced it back together last week I Am HOME now and with the help of God and my wife, we have figured out all the painkillers necessary and substituting lesser doses of over the counter instead of the higher power stuff that the recovery center and doctors gave out. This is in part to having a catheter inserted for almost a month because of painkillers. I am going to get the complete records of every person who billed my account and every aspirin I consumed. I am guessing a quarter to a half million charged to Medicare but who knows? The hospital did save my life and I definitely give them credit for that. Maybe I had a part in saving it as well as well as the people who prayed for me and helped keep the yard mowed even if the mower had a color other than red. So don't be shy about demanding safety and sanitation from the caregivers when you have to. Sorry about the length of this post
