Using a Wheelhorse 10hp as the power plant to run a hydraulic pump that will operate a wood splitter. I am waiting on bases and fittings and thought I would share what I got done,Thought someone would like to see how else a wheel horse can be put to use. I am building a wood splitter using a 10hp Wheelhorse let’s call it a power unit. I stripped it down to just the frame which left me the motor, electrical system, gas tank and clutch assembly. I built a jack-shaft that I mounted where the battery box was to run the two speed hydraulic pump. The jack shaft has a double clutch pulley on it to match the one on the motor but is reversed so I could run two matched length belts. It should be splitting wood in a week when my hoses and fittings come in. I like the clutch setup on a hydraulic pump, it makes starting the gas motor much easier when you don’t have to turn over the cold hydraulic pump in the winter and should make the pump last longer if it is disengaged when actually not splitting wood.

I got a Wheelhorse for $50!!!!! A B80, its an 8 speed…. so it must a 76 or a 77? 71-08k801 14413 and the number below it is 7094… i think!! All factory wiring and coil. It looks like the PTO seal is bad..oil all over the place! We’ll see once i get it running!! I changed the oil and gas came running out.. cute!! Hopefully clean the carb, set the points and new fuel line/filter.. and it’ll be a runner!!!

Been a long time coming to have the 520 set up for plowing somewhere in the time frame of 20 years. I bought this plow new in 1990 one year after the 89 312-8 was purchased and used it for a couple of years plowing the driveway. Back then I had no idea that the 520 required a front extension kit so the front tires would clear the blade when angled. Only used it twice and decided to buy a 44'' two stage and set that up on the 520 instead. I was able to locate an Original Cab Co hardtop soft cab,and misc parts pile, basically all new , slightly used. In that pile was brackets etc of which the seller and I had no idea what their purpose was. Those were in the garage of a new house he bought and the PO left them behind. Also a rear Kwik-Way rear weight box with attaching parts etc that I still have. Last year I repainted the front side of the 48'' dozer blade and cutting edge with Rust O leum regal red. Last weekend I repainted the rear of the blade with Toro new red. Have not used the Toro paint since the early 2000's and here are my thoughts and opinions. The regal red seems to spray a wider pattern than the Toro so the overlaps are much closer when using Toro. The color has that less orange look to me than the Toro. The Toro dried much faster and able to handle it much sooner. Taking into consideration last weekend was absolutely perfect for painting and drying outdoors. I feel the Toro is a closer match than the regal when trying to get close to the original panels on the rest of the tractor. Here are some pictures as it sat today. This will be used to clean up after using the big tractor and for smaller lighter storms.I consider the 520-H semi-retired after performing flawlessly for the past 21 years. Forgot to add a big Thank you to Mike and Eric for help with the NOS rear weights Mike and the offset plow lever Eric . Chains will go on when the snow flies. Enjoy the pics all.

We bought a 2010 keystone with a damaged roof. I have been rebuilding it slowly this was all a couple of weekends ago (video showing progress). Last weekend was a new deck and power washing our house. This weekend is indoor work with the weather beinig cool and breezy... The old B-60 helped out hauling debris trailer in and out of the backyard. it still amazes my neighbors that I can give it half choke and no throttle and it will fire right up! lol 10000000_7066133396739772_3166299203203788343_n.mp4

I got rained on at the big show. I got rained on at the Steam Pageant. I got rained on at the WNY Steam Rally. I got rained on at the Fingerlakes Live Steamers open house. If Zagray was an hour drive, I'd go to bust balls at least!

Yesterday, the washing machine decides to stop mid cycle, not pump the water out, and leave the door locked - with the clothes still inside. It is a front loader. Cleaning the drain hose and discovering and cleaning a very dirty strainer ahead of the drain pump was no help. Today I hot wired the pump to verify it was good, then learned how to use the built in diagnostices in the washer to lead me to an error code and check list that points to the appliance control unit as the probable cause. $200 dollar part with no way other than the error code to say it is bad. That is cheaper than a new washer, so I guess I'll have to bite. I did get some bricks laid on the front porch railing. Starting to get a rhythm going for that, so I'm getting quicker. Discovered that laying bricks is theripudic. Was kind of up tight and frustrated over the washer when I started with the bricks. As I was cleaning the masonry tools up, I realized I was more relaxed and a plan had formed for the washer while I was laying bricks.

Off n on rain today so it's an indoor shop day. A few months ago we installed temporary lighting on the first floor. A few weeks ago I ordered the permanent lights. 8 foot. Super bright. 10 lamps. Here's half of them installed. 3 one side, 2 on the other. And the upstairs as lit up. BBT... and what that stands for... will be expanding the dojo soon too.

Now I understand why you needed my PTO bell. I knew these s would like the build. Thanks for sharing Pat.

The 71 prefix indicates it's a 77. 76's and 77's are identical though. The B series and C series Are identical in those two years save for some cosmetic items and HP. Here's my 76 B-80 that I purchased new and still have it. It grew into a "B"-160.

It was woods cleanup day. Should be last time till spring. Weather was nice with highs in the mid 60s here. The c-100 got the fun. Son had out is old rig to take it for a spin and drag some limbs to the pile. After the main area was done we decided to try and claim back this trail that is slowly being overtaken by vines, etc. It was tough going. Even in low range first gear and deck in the raised transport position I still had to stop a few times to untangle vines that wrapped up. such a pain. We'll keep at it though and make progress a bit at a time when we are up for the work. Great day though and enjoyed some good seat time. Still pleased with the $25 project tractor

Added a hood scoop today to cover up the air filter to keep the weather out, still may add a screen to the front to help out as well. I'll clean up the excess seam sealer once it's dry.

No fluid, but they have tubes and they're pretty beat up but hey I gotta try right, because that's exactly what my wife's going to ask me when I tell I need to buy new ones. See I'm thinking ahead lol.

Maybe make a score line along the shaft before cutting so you weld it back in the same place.

@Pat Marchwick @ebinmaine , don't have any hydraulics for winter usage , but if I did , you can bet I would have a magnetic heater on it , thats so easy / simple , to have warmed up oil ? regularly use , INCANDESANT WORK BULBS , in a 10 " reflector just under my engines , oil pan area is warn , battery tender , is that difficult ? very fast starts , minimal choke . stand the bulb reflector on its squeeze clamp end edge , against floor , like it was made for it . Pete

Cut above the gear , Reweld. Smooth the bead down with a flap wheel some filler for the pits and toss some paint on er.

Pat - that looks to have great potential. Good to see the engine exhaust on the farside. It appears to be a 1 to 1 ratio on the belt drive. Is the pump sufficiently rated for pressure and output at 3400 or 3500 RPM? Be sure the engine governor is functional too. The oil tank appears to have more than sufficient capacity for the cylinder to cycle. Are there hard stops in BOTH directions to keep the piston from bottoming out?? Mounting the directional valve above the cylinder?? Bill

I use ABC plugs...Anything But Champion Got burned twice on ones that would fire laying on the head but not under compression

Not all computerizing is sensefully or even helpfully. The more White Ware will be computerized, the more it becomes just Trash. planned obsolencence is one of the issues therfore. Here in our Holiday Home there is a Brand new Coffeemaker, what now strikes 2 times half Can of Coffe and than shutdown. just appears few Beeping Codes... don‘t ask me what they should Tells me. even ask me, why a simple Coffeemaker needs urgently a processor. Waste of ressources. a simple On Off knob and a thermoswitch did it years ago. Now we brew the Coffee as in the past simply by Hand and each Can is getting Full. Some kind of computerizing is completely sensless in my Opinion. Especially if diagnosis systems just tells you - i‘m dead.... but hey - dang i missing my Trailer... Found a nice Souvenir aside... The Owner told me it was a Thingi from his Brother but he ain‘t need it anymore. No Computers at all - let‘s see if i can have a Deal...

@8ntruck Interesting how some folks dread a particular task or occurrence that others really enjoy. I can't even begin to tell you how many people have told me they believe 12V wiring is some sort of dark magic that no one can understand. I on the other hand find building a tractor wiring harness relaxing and enjoyable. On that washing machine, Trina's done professional cleaning/ sanitizing/ environmental services for the hospital as well as residential in the past. You couldn't give her a modern front loader. A few years ago she bought us a new washing machine after the one I already had broke down for the last time. Her replacement was an inexpensive top loader with no frills chills or extra options. My parents have been having repeated issues with their own fancy pants modern computerized washer and dryer since they were new, and replaced, and again....

In recent years Champion has really gone downhill in quality, just look at the rough threads. NGK looks like jewelry alongside the current offerings from Champion.

In my younger days I ran AC Delco , Ford Motorcraft, Autolite, Bosch, NGK. Had good luck with all of them. Really didn't get into Champion until a few years ago with the Kohler engines and Wheelhorses. They've been good too. What I DO NOT believe in is the aftermarket multiple ground strap plugs like split fire or similar. Spark will ALWAYS go to the path of least resistance. Plugs don't need more ground straps. YMMV.

For this quick bit, I hopped off, ran ahead and snapped the shot, then jumped back on. Generally, my left seat position allows me to clutch (which stops as well), shift, and steer when necessary. I made these. Not solid mounts but a lot stiffer than the dry-rotted rubber ones.

I picked up this 702 from a buddy today, he bought it several months ago, supposedly it had been sitting in a shed for a couple of decades. It now has new points, carb, fuel pump, ignition switch and the rims have recently been painted. It runs good but does puff some smoke on start up. This one’s gonna stay in original patina. The first order of business is to sit, have a cup of coffee and figure out how to get that new white paint off of those rims.

Absolutely! Just throwing it out there because I had pretty good luck using it. Never did wheels but did a whole tractor that was brush painted I still search for those yellowish rust patina 6-12 rims for my projects. They turned a particular color for some reason

I'm with Eric, check that fuel pump. A leaking diaphragm is how gas gets into the crankcase.

Yep, the fenders rest on the tires. Has nothing to do with the transmission. Just don't back up.

True, true. Especially when this is stock a 41 hp machine, and the new engine is 70. Zoom,zoom!

I have one for plow duty. Most the time it just sits in the garage. Like Mike said hard to beat these K181`s.

My biggest problem was always trying to get a reliable cross from Chumponions to another brand so H10s for big blocks and J8s for small blocks are ingrained in my head.

@ebinmaine I don’t know Eric, I’m kinda surprised that living in snow country you don’t already have one of those! I’m thinking a dedicated snow tractor, cab, lights etc. Like that nice 520 that @JCM had !!

I'm really happy to see you got that! Now that machine can be maintained like it should be and put to work. You'd really like the little 8 HP engine. Economical and powerful for its size. That's a... uhhh... nice seat ((??))

Nice color on the wheels

Back in June when I injured my sciatica. The pain was so bad that I was on gabapentin. At that time I really didn't care about side effects. Fortunately, it worked for me without any issues. I'm still having some pain but it's manageable without prescriptions. I don't want to get dependent on anything. Also, most importantly I have my pilots license so the last thing I want to happen is to be unable to fly my plane. My girlfriends family lives out of town but is only an hours flight so day trips are common. Been doing some psychical therapy & stretches which seems to help. Seems like mostly my discomfort is when sleeping & if I sit for a long time. Walking does seem to actually help however I get pain in my legs as I have varicose veins probably from standing constantly 10-12 hrs/day, 5-6 days/wk for the 1st 25+yrs of working. I definitely rock the compression socks with my shorts on! 😂

Agreed! These are made from 90 shore A polyurethane material. I chose that because many aftermarket/upgraded suspension parts use polyurethane instead of rubber for increased stiffness and durability. If it's good enough for suspension stuff on cars I figured it would be good enough for a tractor.

Weight loss seems to have given up on me. Up 3 pounds since June, and all the good eating months are still ahead.

Found all my weights! Somehow 1/3 was in the back barn and the other half was in the shop!
