11 pointsBest part......FREE. I was talking with a buddy of last week and mentioned that I was planning to build a FEL for my Wheelhorse because I don't have enough unfinished projects sitting around. He laughed a bit and then said "I have a little one you can have". Apparently it was on a Cub Cadet he bought a few years ago and he never used it. He just wanted it out of his shop. So I drove over to his place this afternoon and there we go.....free Johnny Bucket. It's going to take a little fiddling to get it mounted up to the WH, but nothing that can't be solved with the plasma cutter and welder. The timing couldn't be better. I'm about to have 3 pretty large trees removed and the stumps ground out. This thing will make moving wood and cleaning up stump grindings MUCH more manageable.

5 pointsFinally I'm back to owning a Wheel Horse. A 1045 I think we figured from the other post. I guess it's mostly original. Trans shifts, engine, and gen turn over. Hydro lever doesn't appear to move nor does the shaft spin. I spent about 2.4 seconds as it was starting to rain. Any info or insight you have on this would be appreciated. I've never owned this model.

5 pointsUsed my 1962 702 and my lawn spreader to give the lawn a Fall weed and feed treatment. Mowed first with my 314 and the recycling deck as leaves have already started to fall. It has rained for seven hours straight today. Light rain but much needed.

5 pointsDitto Those would be my two choices from there as well. (and swap the knobby tire off that one round hood back onto the 1045 where it belongs.)
-
5 pointsSorry to confuse you David. I see the boys have explained. We do have some s on here.
-
5 pointsRound fender, square hood. 1045, unless it was modified… My kids and I built a look alike during the big rona shutdown of 2020…
-
5 pointsLooks like the pump drive shaft with no pulley just above the idler pulley. The belt probably mounts out board of the transmission belt. I like that other Wheel Horse in the second picture. It has the very rare sought after "CRANK START".

4 pointsLol except for the weeks it would take to get the rusted solid hitch / rear pin out. I think some fluid would help tremendously. We had agreed on a price to get this and the 701 but the rear was rusted solid. The other ones were rough like cracked hoods missing engine parts fenders damaged seats gone etc. I work with a limited budget so have to at least have a rolling project. Truth be told I mat sell this. I got this to modify but knowing it's somewhat rare I think it should go to someone who wants to keep it original. I'm going to try to get it running and driving then go from there.

4 pointsI grew up in a Wheel Horse family as my parents were from the South Bend area. I mowed yard on an early 1960's WH tractor and then in 1968 my dad got a preowned 1257 that I mowed on until I left for college. I have personally owned a 312-8 which I donated to my local parks department that they still use and I have owned a new Classic 315-8. I sold it a few years ago to use a mowing service and wanting a tad more room in my garage. Well I have decided to go back to my own mowing next spring and have recently acquired a 418-8, Beautiful tractor that was delivered to me yesterday. Anyhow here is a picture after delivery. Thanks for looking and loving this forum.

4 pointsFrom what I can see I'd be interested in the '65 1045 (only model with a square hood & clam shell rear fenders) Bonus that it has the HY (hydraulic lift) And the '61 701 ( first year after the Senior's that they put the engine in the front of the tractor ) There is a lot of one year only items on this model. Every one has there favorite style though.

4 pointsSulkies can be easy to fall off of...just sayin... ask her how she knows... C. Hill has a dandy tho. A tandem for those heavy dates...
-
4 pointsHey a show was coming up and she needed a love ride so it was a 5 minute job! Dan's brother has got a two up seat with arm rests I may score. Another simple idea is two solo seats mounted on some sort of bracket. Keep in mind depending on the type of tractor is may be necessary to split the operating duties. A gear jammer the driver can pretty much run the whole show. A hydro since the speed control is on the right the passenger may run that.
-
4 pointsif I told my wife i was building a tractor for her with a wide seat, this is how i think things would end up.
-
3 pointsGood quality is the best BUT... Heat the ends up with a torch to cherry red and quench it. It'll harden them. I do this with damaged screwdrivers that are ground back to shape. Chisels and punches too because I'll grind them to the shape I need for a given task. Etc. It's the backyard hammer mechanic way! LoL
-
3 pointsIf you can afford these you most likely won't need to buy another set .Do not remember what I paid some 20 plus years ago.
-
3 pointsMight wanna report that to em. Also post a 1 star review. Won't help you but maybe someone else.
-
3 pointsI'd like to find the 2 belt shields but I assume I'll have to buy them from one of you guys. Lol

3 pointsIf you're going to look and consider them.... The 701 appears to have the original hidden wheel deck... those are more rare than the tractor itself... and the 701 is pretty desirable... Also ask if the double wide starter belt guard is there. That alone is a $200 part if they have it.
-
3 points‘Good eye Kevin . Sure looks like a 1045 from what I can see of it . I’m curious to see what all the other round hood tractors are .To me it looks like a 701 a 502/702 and a 753 or 854 . Good luck 👍
-
3 pointsIts funny - I prefer a 6 slot hood over the 7 slot and teh square seat pan over the round fenders. Could just be because that was the style of my 1st WH. As a whole I like all them and it money allowed id probably have everything.
-
3 pointsDifferent areas bring different prices. I like to stay around the $200 range for non-runners. Would make an exception to that rule on certain models. A true 1045 might be one of them.
-
3 pointsThe guy answered back and said he didn't know anything about any of them and they were his dads. Gave a number to call. I want to go check them out just to at least see what hes got and get some feelers on price. Thank you.

3 pointsWhat about a sulky to ride on, rather than in a trailer?

3 pointsAfter you get it cleaned up look carefully at the needle bearings. Stick your finger in and try to push the needles around. they should stay perfectly parallel to the shaft axis. if they wiggle a bit or sit at an angle replace it they are not that expensive.

3 pointsBuilt 2 of these little cars. Rear engine with a centrifugal clutch.

3 pointsWish you a speedy recovery. I know all to well about extended hospital stays. I know what it is like to rely on others to do simple things for you that you can't do yourself. In 2019 I went into the hospital at the end of February and finally came home in June. Home for a week, then back in for 10 days. No picnic. Amazing what your body and mind can endure. I wish you a speedy recovery.

2 pointsYa I know I took a chance and figured they'd be bad but they said harden steel. So 50 50 shot lol, and at 10.00 shipped I figured I'd try them. I'll return them. But I'll get a better set US made lol. Brand is Horusdy First pic is before use. 2nd pic is after 1 use.
-
2 points"Drop forged and heat treated steel". Really does NOT have to be a truly "Hardened" steel. I've been carefully buying some VINTAGE tools off the fleeeeBay. Decent luck so far.
-
2 pointsUnfortunately the 701 had a locked up rear end. The other round noses were really rough. I got the 1045 rear freed up enough to get it loaded and it was the only real roller. After 10 years I'm finally able to say I own a Wheel Horse again. For a couple Benjis I'm happy. The sleeve hitch it rusted solid so hopefully the rear-end on this is OK. I'll start a post for it once I get it home. Thanks for the info guys. Here are a few pics I got of the others...

2 pointsThey are referring to the handle on the front of this tractor ( circled in white ). It looks like a crank start handle on older farm tractors, even some old cars for that matter.

2 pointsIf i had the money I would. Hes asking 300 each and is close to the house. Id like to get back into a wheel horse and this may be my way to do it. Tractor fund is low due to diesel conversion on JD GT lol.
