I grew up in a Wheel Horse family as my parents were from the South Bend area. I mowed yard on an early 1960's WH tractor and then in 1968 my dad got a preowned 1257 that I mowed on until I left for college. I have personally owned a 312-8 which I donated to my local parks department that they still use and I have owned a new Classic 315-8. I sold it a few years ago to use a mowing service and wanting a tad more room in my garage. Well I have decided to go back to my own mowing next spring and have recently acquired a 418-8, Beautiful tractor that was delivered to me yesterday. Anyhow here is a picture after delivery. if I told my wife i was building a tractor for her with a wide seat, this is how i think things would end up.

With hours of redneck engineering and a little help from my cousins, I have made a custom piston head shifter knob.

Let me start off by saying I got bored this Summer lol ! I had posted my 2 - GT-14's along with my 2-stage snowblower earlier this Spring and after a while of no hits on that post and me with time on my hands, I decided to pull the 14hp Kohler off the GT-14 and a 20hp off a Sears SS tractor I had and make the ultimate snow blower rig for this Winter. Already bench tested everything and lets just say she didn't disappoint. the hydro is so quiet and it lifts this blower with no strain what so ever, which is the main reason for this conversion. Hope everyone had fun with their own projects, I know I sure did with this one. Thanks For Looking !!

When driving out a roll pin, make sure that you have whatever you are trying to remove it from backed up with some type of "anvil". Any movement in the device while striking the pin will take away power needed to push it out.

Not throwing stones (too hard) but I supported mine a tad better than Uncle Jim did his. I had no rear fender on the tractor, so it was basically a blank slate. I’m sure I could have used 1x1 instead of 2x2 and had just fine results. If only someone had some extra bus seats laying around…

I was very bad about changing the oil in my wife's car when we were first married. Her father used to pull the dipstick on her VW Beetle, see that the oil was black, and ask when was the last time I changed it. So I started using STP brand motor oil. It came out of the can black, so that ended the discussion.

I have finally completed my 5xi Quiet Collector restoration today.....and it works very well. I originally acquired it many years ago and fitted it fairly easily to my C175 but following my recent acquistion of a 520Lxi, I thought I would swap it over and fit it where it truly belongs. With a piece of double luck, the collector was supplied with a 52" drive kit and my tractor, purchased probably 10 years later, is fitted with a 52" deck so restoration could commence immediately. All items have been shot blasted and powder coated, there's new bearings in the turbine and I have used stainless fasteners throughout. The directional blast outlet control had disintegrated so I rebuilt that using a 3D printed operating lever. New cables too, these being fairly standard bike brake fittings. The lower turbine bearing was originally very noisy (due to rust) , but with new bearings it is now very smooth and makes a very satisfying turbine type whine. The only real issue was caused by the collector boot mounting. As I understand it, this is held in position by the deck outlet chute.......which my deck doesn't have! I modified the chute mounting bracket by welding a bored out 3/4" diameter rod and it is all held place by a 10mm rod pushed through the chute mountings. As with previous posts, I have forgotten to 'support' the site before posting this so will have to add extra more photos in later posts! Sorry!

His reaction after taste .... the picture tells it all.... 😂 Than we had a Break in a Beach Bar. Family in a Frame... Back to our rooms - changin dresscode... Oh, a sqirrel ... After first day a Beer ! We stay serveral hours on the Beach... And visit to collosseum in Croatia. - dresscode was important for me ! Time for a lime... Beeing back soon...

I ended up wining a D160 at an auction that had side by side seating already set up. The PO built custom fenders & some kind of bucket holders for it. Didn't know what I was going to do with it at first, now Big Betty Baloo is the first one on the trailer when I go to shows. @WHX?? & @Pullstart used a bus seat to make a side by side out of their tractors.

When I restored my C-121 I replaced the engine mounts with the correct rubber ones and I must say they are nice. However I remember them being very expensive and I don’t think anyone was making solid mounts at the time. I probably would go with the solid mounts next time (if there is a next time!) I’m not even sure if the rubber mounts are still available?

To stop some of the vibration, and it most likely worked good for most about 20 years. They are 40 years old now time to fix them.

I'm now a supporter! Drive kit: Double pulley: Blast direction control lever: Boot mounting: Powder coat: I powder coated the small items myself, but the main frames were too big for my oven, so they were done professionally, (seven items?) at great cost (£150) but it is worth it. The only major issue I encountered was the main lift arm which had rusted internally and was unable to withstand the torque required to open the clam shell. Luckily the rust appeared to be just at the weld, so I cut it off and rewelded (prior to sending off for coating!) I scrubbed the plastic mouldings and they now don't look too shabby but still have boot and pipes to do. I'm also wondering about giving the plastic a coat of plastic bumper treatment or similar to smarten things up a bit more.

I believe that's the color of oil when it comes out of the ground so it should still be good.

It is easy to see that you've FLARED out the end of the roll pin. That's what happens when using a flat end punch. The special ROLL PIN punch has dimple on the end to prevent flare-out like this. Auto parts stores will have roll pin punches in sets for $20 bux or so.

Yes, three coats of two part epoxy primer sanded between each coat, three coats of PPG red (I have the color code somewhere) and three coats of clear.

Tiny update from the workfloor. It's been two weeks since I'm back from my vacation. Shot a nice picture in the shop this afternoon. Two brand new tractors and a youngtimer. Got a Fendt 309 Vario in the other day. Filter was changed not that long ago but this was what I found when I opened the filter cannister. Yes those are leaves and even some small branches in there. Last but not least I did a modification on a rear axle. Due to a aftermarket GPS system the customer could'nt reach the factory grease zerk so I relocated it with a bit of hard-line. Now awaiting the @peter lena seal of approval

Thank you so much everyone!!! I had a great day on my birthday! My tractor club has a kids day every year and it fell on my birthday this year, so I spent the day with like minding guys talking to kids all day. It was great!! Fall is here and I will get back to working on some tractors, so you will have to tolerate me being on here this winter!!! Randy

Should be able to get a new roll pin at any hardware store. They are a common size.

Anything is possible I suppose, but the cleanest fix is an electric clutch.

Or make a wooden one.

As mentioned in another topic I'm still alive and kicking. After being unemployed for a while I'm back to work now for about two months. My previous occupation for nearly 12,5 years was at a industrial rental company (welders, generators, compressors, lighting etcetera) at several positions. That came to and end so I had to go look for something else. Long story short, I found a job at a agricultural mechanization firm. They were looking for a mechanic and we came to an agreement. Besides being Claas dealer (tractors, combine harvesters, silage equipment) they also do maintenance on some others tractors and machinery. Since I started working there I've done several jobs and learned a bunch. Good news is I actually enjoy what I'm doing again and have a lot less things and people riding my you-know-what. Below some pictures of what I've been working on. Brand new water tank. Needed some extra lights, snorkel on top, removed the pneumatic braking, switched around a few hydraulic functions and made a control box for the added functions. Snorkel. Simple control box. Combination as used for dust control. Brand new Claas Arion 630. Had to be stripped and painted (externally) in company colors. From the original green and red to black and blue. Brand new Arion 630. Taking fenders and hood off. Bare tractor. New color. Later the rims were painted black Added some valves and hoses for extra hydraulic couplings at the front of the tractor. Also set up for dust control.

I've seen some tractors with wide seats, where 2 people can sit side-by-side, and I'm wondering what the best approach is for this. First, have you used a seat from a golf cart, something else, or custom built one? Second, I'm wondering if there needs to be reinforcement added rather than just bolting one on the standard seat bracket so it doesn't rock from side-to-side or tilt if one person is (ahem...) heavier than the other. My wife has had a lot of health issues, and has not been able to see much of the property for quite a while, aside from the close parts of the front and back yards. I'd like to be able to take her for rides around the farm on it, and I don't think she wants to ride in the trailer.

@c-series don THAT restoration looks incredible. Did you do a clear coat over the paint also? I just sprayed with a reducer and 2k hardener, and i'm not sure if I can polish it like you could with clear applied.

I'm sure it seemed like a good idea to some Kohler engineer(s) at the time.

I have a "spare" one that you can have. I've never looked at how these work - do they just measure how long the key is on and there is power? Or do they detect the engine running?

That's definitely a good thing. I suppose probably I should get an hour meter on this machine.

Remember EB there ain't no filtration on those old K's, that oil is going to be pretty dark by nature of the beast, that means the oil is cleaning up after it's self.

Looking online for the ones I bought are theyre based out of Australia. I didn't see any bad reviews and lots of good things to say.

Gentlemen, I have been busy plowing earth before installing a hedgerow. This was my first time using a ground engaging implement (and plowing) and I was amazed by what the tractor, a 68 Charger 12, could do!

This is a bargain, good for those intermittent runners. Got one form on the gay the other day for a tiller machine. Has the WH bolt pattern too.
