5 pointsFirst, the leaves start to change, so I get Bagger Horse out to take care of the fallen leaves. Then, there is a chance we will see the white stuff, snow ❄️!!! Don't hate!! So out comes Snow Horse , and it is Beastly !!! It will push ten inches of heavy wet snow without breaking a sweat. The rear tires are some old Duro six ply that I have had forever, and they are heavy without fluid, but these are fluid filled. Eighty lbs of lead in the tool box. Cub weights on the inside of the wheels, seventy lb weights of some kind on the outside, and my 225 sitting on it. Four foot blade and easily as it pushes snow ❄️, it could be wider. But not pushing my luck. SNOW,SNOW SNOW SNOW ❄️, don't shoot the messenger !!!!! Thanks !!!!

5 pointsDue to predation, we had confine the chickens to a smaller enclosure. To compensate we made them a chicken tree. I saw these online at 4 times what we have in this one.

5 pointsYesterday's PT session was awesome! First the therapist put a few small items on the floor and had me go around picking them up while using the walker. I did well on that one then she had me walk with a large base cane while she had a firm grip on the belt around me. We walked fifty feet and rested, did that four times and though I was a bit wobbly it felt soooooooooooooo good. Each day gets a little better, thank you Lord.

4 pointsI got 5 of my tractors and took pictures of all of them before we put some of them away for the winter.

4 pointsMade a transmission jig. This is going to get a lot of use. Last pic is me standing straight up and my arm down. Ergonomics are key to getting older. 🤪 Cheers, Gitty up!

4 pointsAbove is what the large front doors have looked like since last year. We've had such an incredibly wet year it's been nearly impossible to find a few dry days above 40⁰ so Trina could restart painting. Fall is here now. Excellent.

4 pointsNewspaper ad that came with a tractor I bought years ago. 1983-1984 I believe.

3 pointsI must be getting really old. Got tired of the hacksaw and decided to get a portable metal saw along with table and foot switch. Got the table to clamp in vise since I don’t use it often it’s easier to just take it out and put it in the corner somewhere. It really takes the drudgery of the metal work specially on the yokes . Did not need anything real heavy duty so the whole thing was at $200.00.

3 pointsI just bought this one at todays auction for $45. It twists the blade 45 degrees and has a throat width of 3 inches for ripping long pieces.

3 pointsIt might also be time to give your starter some maintenance. The Kohler manual has a good section on this. You can get a brush and bushing rebuild kit from DB electric. These starters are really not hard to disassemble, clean and lube bushings. The starter on my sons 312-8 seemed to be dragging or turning over slower. Pulled the starter and the brushes were worn down to almost nothing.

3 pointsYou can ride shot gun with me and Brennan bo from hotel to dinner next year for Wednesday supper!

3 pointsDid some investigating…this is probably a 1982 advert, the first year of the gray workhorse models. In 1984 (last year of the Workhorse line) they all dropped the deck size from their model number. Ex: GT1848 became GT1800, GT1642 became GT1600 and GT1142 became GT1100

3 pointsI'd HIGHLY recommend that. I have a DeWalt corded portable band saw with a little table. Swag brand I believe. It's a whole different tool with that table.

3 pointsGreat progress Richard, good to hear you keep on to convalescence. If it keep going on that Way, it appears, we can at 2024‘s Big Show have a little Walk Together. 👍

3 pointsHi All, First thank you all for the welcome and all the input. The dealer still has not taken the tractor in yet but I did get these two pictures and a serial #1030869. I think I saw some where that would make it a 1991. Still would like to know what the deck clearance is when raised up. The amount of information on this site is a little overwhelming and amazing. Would appreciate any other input you can give me from these two photos, and will let you know if I end up with it. Thanks

3 pointsMy C160 has a seat raised on springs and my 250 L Bees make for a bit of a teeter totter ride. Add some of the normal cracks a 46 yr old fender pan you get some creaks and groans. Add a couple 3/16 thick strips to spread the load. Made a huge difference on the ride.

3 pointsGuys, this was basically a “senior moment” because of a cold unfriendly material. Aside from it everything is as usual making love to wood the old fashioned way.

2 pointsCan't find his thread now but totally unrelated to chickens. Wanted to know something about his tractor. Though maybe chicken farmer @Pullstart was pulling pranks! I thought maybe it was a thread from today even.

2 pointsI posted this picture last night from my account here. I don't know how it got misrouted but if it caused any issues to any member my apologies.

2 pointsOk JA ther was just another post with that exact pic in it and the guy was bewildered how it got in his post! Somebody with decent internet go find it!

2 pointsThe tractor battery they sell at Costco is an Interstate, and I get about 3 years out of it. Has 300 CCA's. Bot one in March '23 for $33. Works good.

2 pointsA guy stopped in just now. Hooked his dewalt jumper to it and fired right up. My battery is only couple months old. Oil light still blinks when I push the test button. Edit, And the volt gauge reads 14 when running.

2 pointsI lifted her up a bit ago, there are just 3 chicks. That’s 3 more than we had yesterday this time!

2 pointsOh I've got the ramps. I'm debating if a WH should be the extra weight in back during winter weather

2 points@smach welcome to the site ! for me , the elephant in the room is not the size of the deck , but ,ITS ROTATIONAL COLLECTIVE DRAG . first thing , notice how many are replacing PTO DRIVE CLUTCHES ? neglect and lack of correct service on a deck is the main issue . deck rot , lack of apparent care , is obvious . even that 2 stage blower can be detailed in for easier running . spindle drag / pulley drag , incorrect lubrication , rusty levers , connection points . thats what kills any set up . used a 36" R/D deck for years , never had a problem with it , totally detailed service , as suggested above. then went to 42" R/D decks same detailed conversion / upgrade , decks easily spin by hand , zero bearing whine , regularly checked over , prop up , to sun , cleaned , oil soak , zero rot , blades fine file sharpened , every related bearing , has 550 DEG polyurea , Lucas grease. PTO lever set up , same functional detailing , very smooth / easy / quiet engagement . only a suggestion , made this change , because of regular problems , pete

2 pointsInspect, clean and tighten ALL battery cable connections including grounds. If you have poor connections the CCA of a battery won't make a difference.

2 pointsFWIW that two stage snow blower is a desirable implement. If the price is good, I'd take it as it sits and worry about a mower deck later.

2 pointsI paid over $4000 for my GT-1800 with 48” SD in August of 1984. To this day it’s some of the best money I ever spent.

2 pointsI did. It was a 1991 Deere 420, had about 720hrs on it, i bought it at full market value with the understanding it needed deck work but was mechanically sound. 10 minutes...thats how long it ran before i discovered the governor spacer was bad. I pulled the engine, replaced the spacer...put the engine back in..ran it about 30 minutes and it lost power, compression low on the right side..pulled exh and intake, found 0 lash on one..(and alot of new gaskets), so i lashed it..back together, ran about 35 minutes and...lost compression, no lash again. Pulled head, pulled valve..seat fell out. It was pretty beat up but fixable...9 months i gave up on machine shops jerking me around. Found an engine in Indiana, shop assured me it ran fine but the starter was noisy. I paid $600, got it home...jumped the starter and knew immediately the block was broken. Pulled the flywheel, teeth half gone, pulled starter, it was okay..but the inboard starter mount was cracked. I had that welded, put it all together, engine in frame...started and ran but no governor control..bad governor spacer. Swapped that spacer out..put the engine back in..and its been fine.

2 pointsi have had two 416 models - one a 416h - Hydro model -- the other a 416-8 manual trans - they are wonderful model line above the 300 series but not the beasts that are the 520s -- they will do anything any homeowner might need done. Regarding the mower -- it's either a 42" or 48" model mower deck that fits that era 300, 400, 500 series WH -- OR, if in fact it measures 52" then that fits a Toro tractor in the 520 series that are 52 inch decks -- however, I believe the Toro mower decks lift carriage assembly for the Toro 520 Series is different carriage mounting assembly than that which fits a 416 series?? Be sure you get a mower deck model that actually mounts on the 416 - here are photos on my two 416s i owned previously.

2 pointsShort story about honoring our National Anthem. The crew members I worked with at the power plant were all military veterans. When we were on the midnight shift we always listened to a particular radio station that would play a recording of our National Anthem at five am, we would all stand with hands over our hearts while it was playing. A new manage had been assigned to our plant and he was making the rounds of all the departments to introduce himself and give us feedback on his observations. He came to our workstation at about 4:45 am. He was in the middle of his presentation when we all stood up in unison, he thought we were walking out on him. He began to ask what was going on and was SHUSHED by several of us. Once he realized that the National Anthem was being played he too put hand over heart and from that day forward he would stop by at 5:00 am when we were working the mid-shift.

1 pointNow check the voltage across the battery with it running should be around 14.5 volts. If not check the voltage coming to the regulator that should me high 30's to 40 volts AC. If you got good AC it's most likly the regulator. Also check all the connections for clean and tight connections .Also check to see if you have a good ground between the engine and frame, I run a extra ground wire between a engine mounting bolt and the battery ground.

1 pointHi All, new to this forum, been here about a week or so looking around trying to get smarter, but it's time for questions, currently have Cub Cadet 149 hydro that gave it up and don't have time to get to into it (maybe in the future). Been using a big box troy built someone gave me to get by this past summer but it's definitely not a tractor and not a hydro. To that end I have been looking at real lawn tractors, have seen adds fro several wheel horse tractors that looked interesting. Have a friend at a dealership that has one coming in in trade that I'm interested in, have not seen it yet. Here is what I know and what I don't know. It's a 416 H, has 950 hours on the meter, they think it's a 52"deck and think it's a 2021. I've looked it up on tractor data and they say this machine was made from 1990 to 1997, and only list the decks as 36", 42", & 48". I think I read some place on this site that the Wheel Horse was shipped to the dealer without a mower so the dealer could add (or not) the deck the customer wanted. So things I need to know before I buy, my guess is that tractor data is correct and the dealer got the wrong info from the owner. is it possible that a 52" deck could have been mounted on this machine? if it is a 52" deck (to big for my yard) I have seen 42" decks for sale locally, will decks from other models fit this one ( I know with Cubs most narrow frame attachments will fit any narrow frame machines) can someone that has a 416 H tell me the clearance from the deck to the ground with the deck in the raised position, I couldn't find it on tractor data, the cub is listed as 4 to 4.5 inches I need the clearance as my yard is not very flat and has some rocks that stick up about 2 to 3 inches, would be nice to just hit the deck lever and go over them instead of around all the time, (one of the reasons I'm looking at the hydro) and last anything else you all think would be helpful. Thanks Steve
