11 pointsMy youngest grandson just turned 12. He's known for several years that he wants to fly. Today he got his first flying lesson. Doing everything except takeoff and landing, the instructor allowed him to fly the airplane (Cessna 172) by himself. I am so proud of my grandkids and the fact that early on, they have their heads screwed on straight and have a direction in life.

7 pointsThis two place snowmobile trailer is perfect for dad. Not only will he use it to move Horses around (plow days, tractor shows, etc) he can also haul stuff home from town. He has owned a little Ford Explorer Sport Trac for about 15-18 years now. It doesn’t have much of a bed and this will help out his cargo capacity nicely. Regarding the bed decking, it doesn’t look like it in the picture but it is treated plywood(CCW). I suggested that dad let it dry out until next spring, then we coat it with an outdoor deck/fence sealer that has been sprinkled with sand to give the deck some traction when damp. Thanks Steve for selling it to me, Dad breathed a whole new life into it with new fasteners, paint, wiring and LED lighting, decking, wheel bearings etc. He is very thankful for it and I know it will be taken care of for years to come😎🙌🏻👍🏻

5 pointsHere's my portable press. Hargrave #44 12" made by Cincinnati Tool USA. Used to press pins, straighten plow blades, frames, augers, etc.

5 pointsTook a little trip for the Labor Day weekend. Been quite a few years since we visited the Falls. Now it's off to Highmark Stadium for the Chicken Wing Nationals at the home of the Buffalo Bills.
-
5 pointsNo doubt that it is not accidental . It is the result of the example and influence of the ones nourishing their minds and lives. Something that it is altogether missing today .

4 pointsI lapped the head flat with 320. That took over an hour but it came out great, nice and flat. New OEM Kohler head gasket, ultra sonic cleaned head bolts and wire brushed after. Torqued to 20 and then 30lbs.

4 pointsThere isn't any straightening that plier drawer out, I've seen it first hand.
-
4 pointsFirst: no spare drums. 2nd: the entire process took an hour start to finish. 3rd: My plier drawer needed sorting.

4 pointsNot totally missing Cas. Stories of these kids help to cancel out all the sad news stories. My belief has always been......Most kids turn out well. Some because of good parenting and some in spite of bad parenting.

4 pointsI started using see-through fuel lines a few years ago. I like to see where in the system the fuel is if I'm having a starting issue. I've tried several brands. The only thing is... None of it is lasting well. Seems like I'm getting maybe 3 seasons out of the lines. Likely I'll go back to a good rubber line and/or a metal/rubber combo when this roll is used up.

3 pointsI know everyone has their favorite way to get these things out. I’m in the process of rebuilding a 3-speed tranny and have worked on hitch pins before. A lot of heat and banging seemed to be involved. So I got to thinking as I have never seen this way done before, although I’m sure it has, in using a ball joint press. It took me 5 minutes, only a couple smacks with the hammer and the pin isn’t all marred up and reusable. The beauty of this method is it’s portable and not a stationary press. Gitty up!

3 pointsNumber 3 grandson came over this morning. After just having new soffits and facias, the next job was to de-moss the roof. So I put him to work. After 6hrs work. 5hrs for him and 2hrs for me. Still a bit to do, but he's coming in the morning to finish it before he goes to work for 2pm. I cleaned the bottom 3 rows and cleared up after he left. There'll be a full wheel barrow of moss by tomorrow. Back is to do another day, but that's not as bad.

3 pointshere is photo of "bigger" 520HC --- only a couple inches --- but typically the HC's also have the slider seat to give operator more room to slide seat back -- of course you can put the seat sliders on other wh seats

3 pointsHello all! Been busy this year but I'm still around. Like a dummy, I picked up a cheap 312 that hasn't ran in 3 years due to electrical problems. The plus side is I bought it with the books, bill of sale and from the original owner that put it in the corner of his shed saving it from being outside. The choke cable is stuck and throttle cable is so loose that it falls on it's own. After draining old fuel, changing oil, cleaning All the grounds, and putting safety switches in the correct places, I got it to wake up. So, a bath was next then a rub down with fluid film. Might as well see if it works. I mowed for 3 hours and no problem. However, how do I get the deck to raise higher? The rear gauge wheels drag the ground. It seems no point to even raise or lower it anyway. Tractor is way too small to fit me and told the other half that it's being sold since I do not want a roller skate. She informed me that she is little and she is going to keep it. Didn't know my tractor was her idea..... Fine! Since SHE is the proud owner that means only one thing, I can sell the other tractors I don't like and find a 520!

3 pointsI am on my 3rd Subaru. First was a 1997 second a 2002, and current one is a 2014. I live in central Maryland. Many roads here are still treated with salt in winter. I have never had any problem with rust or corrosion. I have the car safety inspected once a year by an independent garage. I have never gotten a report that anything was rusting. I would avoid any "rust proofing" service. Just like extended warranties on appliances, phones, and outdoor equipment, they are all just money making gimmicks.

3 pointsAgreed on. Don has a couple neat ones there with the Briggs swaps too.

3 pointsNot exactly a side shot but I guess it is close enough! The 418-C poised and ready to mow, but the 416-H wants in on the action. I ended up with using the 416 with the vacuum because it needed to be bagged.

2 pointsHad a rotten fence post… so decided to get started on mending it instead of sitting on my kiester. Got the old post out… hole is too big so I used a rather unorthodoxed method to replace. I always wrap my posts in roofing felt paper… maybe it slows the rot- I don’t know. After the felt paper I used one of those cardboard tube concrete forms and spaced it away from the post with nails. Got the post where I wanted it… added a little dirt to stabilize everything… filled the tube with concrete… When it sets up I will backfill the hole with dirt tamped in tight… Tied the gate back where it won’t swing around and knock the post out of plumb. The guy that installed the fence when we moved in in 2007 screwed the end posts next to the house to the house. Talk about shortcuts- he did not want to move the post out past the footer for the house so he sat the post on top of the footer and screwed the post to the house. I will be remedying that…

2 pointsI have about 6 ft of yellow and 20 of the blue stuff. I have gone back to Gates Fuel line from McMaster.

2 pointsWell done! Everyone needs a set of beater sawhorses! A lot of pin removal depends on what part is stuck. The slot hitch arms (in my case) or the part in the transaxle case. I was able to use a BIG clamp on a big nut over one end (hole bigger than the pin) and a small washer (slightly smaller than the pin) on the other end. Pressure, penetrant, propane, and patience. On the third day of adding a bit more pressure it popped.

2 pointsMy wife and I worked with teens in a youth group for 20 years. I always felt that the vast majority of them would turn out ok despite, or because of, experiencing a few of life’s harder lessons. Now we are seeing many of those teens with families of their own doing well and contributing to the community. Like @Ed Kennell, While I have concerns about the future (what thinking person doesn’t, right?), I’m generally confident that the next generations will manage ok.

2 pointsGets hard as a rock and can cause leaks. I was dumb enough to buy 25 ft. Anyone want 20 ft of it?

2 pointsWhat did we do today? Well ... Last night... These pics are taken just a few minutes apart from the top of Burnt Meadow Mountain. We did a night hike yesterday. We've started and/or ended before dawn or dusk but never done the whole hike at night on purpose. The clouds kept the moon covered most of the time but it was still a cool experience. Very interesting to be in the forest at pitch dark. We saw a BUNCH of toads. A millipede that was FAR larger than anything we're accustomed to here in Maine. We heard whip-or-whil birds too. First time I've heard one of them in years.

2 pointsI appreciate all the tips. Handy Don made me think and sometimes we need someone to joggle our memory. I had not thought of my other 15 inch wheel tractor, gt 14 and it has the draw bar on it. So I have one, will try to get it off next week and another step to making it complete and mine.
