Been at my house with my lovely wife and 3 kids for last ~18 years. When mowing/bagging our 1/2 acre flat property last week, (i mow slow when bagging and here is something I noticed,) Out of about 20 closest similar houses/properties in my area, My 1 friend/neighbor has a really nice x738?), lady neighbor to North just got a 3rd new big box store Cub last year. She had a Toro before that and a Cub before that. 1 house down from her is someone whose also on their 3rd Husqvarna. One hired a service, Another is on their 3rd New mower of cheaply made models! Almost all of the neighborhood is like this except one back yard neighbor friend, who coincidentally has a 314H. Maybe not a coincidence! I generally use our 416h (for 90% total use, other 10% is mix WH Except for x530 I had(really nice mower). But more 💰 and I just like my WH's a little better for this place, anyway. Definitely happy with the purchase of the 416, 17 yrs ago.('06?) Not perfect by any means but looks good from 5ft. . . Lol.... i was actually laughed at by one neighbor years ago when I broke down and was having trouble getting it running. "shoulda bought a Deere or even Cub" i heard. (Isn't a friendly guy) he's on his 3rd as well. I never say anything. 💰! I try to take care of my stuff best I can, but im sensing a pattern with the number I mentioned above... 🤔🤪 -Cory

Hope you all are doing great! Decided to park the off roader for a bit and do something else with this Horsey addiction. Been wanting an old hit n miss engine since I was a kid, and picked up a 1.5hp Sattley/Montgomery Ward last fall, did a quick cleanup and got her running. I also had a pretty rough but complete 857 in the back- the guys father bought it new back in western NY state- one town from where I grew up! I have a friend who's family had a Wheel Horse dealership nearby, and theres a very good chance thats where it came from! With that being said, this Horse was a keeper and needed something special.....like a Sattley. Im not the first guy to do this, but possibly the first who is trying to tuck it all under the hood, make it look factory, and hopefully itll have enough grunt to put it to some light yard work! Thanks for everyone's concern. I'm okay. The area was hard hit as the news showed. My nextdoor neighbor had two trees come down. We only had branches. No substantial damage. Worked until dark cutting up trees. We lost power until 2:30 am, however much of the area is still without power. Here is the main road thru the area, MD140: Pretty nasty. Again thanks for your concern. I'm now at the eye doctor for my follow-up to the retina surgery from 2 weeks ago. Keeping my finger crossed that everything is okay.

I attended the banquet on Saturday night and Kory Anderson had an hour presentation with Q&A after. There were (7) 150 Case Road Locomotives built in the early 1900's and none of them survived. The issue was the engine produced so much torque that the drivetrain failed. Cast iron was the material used for the gears, which is brittle, and the loads were to much for the gears. Also, the centerlines of the crankshaft, intermediate shaft and differential shaft were not in line causing side loading and another failure point. Ductile iron was discovered in 1943, which is more suitable for this application. Kory was able to get a copy of the blueprints of the 150 Case from Case and created CAD solid models of the parts. The CAD models were used to perform FMEA (load/stress) analysis and create CNC patterns. The 110 HP Case was manufactured after the 150 and Case changed the design of the shafts to be in line to eliminate the side loading. Kory changed the design of the shafts on the 150 to be in line and used ductile iron which eliminated the failures of the original 150. It took Kory 18 months to build the 150.

Any C series since @ebinmaine started scarfing them all up… 😆

Hope you all survived with minimal damage. I lost a few apples, pears, plums, and maple tree limbs, but no significant damage. Lost WiFi yesterday...no phone, TV, or Red Square, but I never lost power like so many in the area. Comcast came back on line moments ago. How did you fare?

My electric and internet has been down since the storm, they have no guesses when they will be restored. Since my house phone uses the internet it is out as well. My connection to the world is just this phone. I drove over to the Strasburg area and got gas on the way back, first station was down with no power and the second had lines of folks like me with gas cans. From Collinsville to Muddy Run there was significant damage. There are a number of roads closed or one lane. I didn’t take a walk around my place yet but I do see several large limbs down.

Back to civilization, power, internet & phone can fully annoy me again. Some information that might help others with a generator; my Tecumseh engine started to sputter every minute or so. I replaced the spark plug but that didn't help, then I noticed the rocker switch blinking like it was low in oil. I checked it and the level was at the mid point of the safe area but I still filled it to the maximum line. The problem went away so the low oil sensor must be knackered so I ordered one. A quick temporary fix is just cutting the wire till the switch can be replaced.

It missed us, in looking at the radar we duck right in between 2 cells. Just a little wind and some rain.

There was tornado damage about an hour south of here, in Paoli IN, Sunday night, but it wasn't bad here. Heavy rain, some wind, no power loss.

I can verify no more than two exist because it was a practical joke played on the "purist" folks. Good or bad, it was well executed- in both the prank and the tractor restomod itself. All done in time for the PA show. Technically there were two machines because the first was created with custom decals that were purposely weathered, and pics to back up a claim of one in the weeds that was very convincing. Then Eldon (the perpetrator of said prank) produced a beautiful build combination of a C-195 and 520-H. It generated quite a few giggles at the show that year. It also irked a few as well. But it was all in fun. And it was the same machine (mostly) as the "first" one from the pics in the woods.

Rather then drive it around, just jack the rear tires off the ground and run (in gears) in place. Do a good 20 - 30 minutes and then drain. Sometimes, those seals will leak when you run diesel. That will leave tracks in your lawn.

1045, 854, 701, and I'd even think any 6 speed tractor. That's a few.

Having it soaking with diesel is a good start. Drive it around or put it up on jack stands and run it through all gears several times. Drain it and if it looks really bad do a 2nd diesel flush. Note: In my opinion, flushing is good when you have milk shake oil and maybe a tiny amount of free water. If it was sitting a long time and had a lot of free water in it, it needs to be opened up and cleaned properly. The spec's for these transmission call for 80/90 wt gear oil. 50 wt motor oil is about as thick as 90 wt gear oil, but doesn't have the additives that gear oil has. I've learned a clue to look for that indicates a transmission has/had a lot of water in it. As water enters the transmission through the shifter opening, it floats the gear oil out the shifter opening. So if the top of a transmission in the shifter area is covered in oil and it might even be running down the sides, there's a good chance it is or was full of water.

Yes it is a mortise chisel designed to clean the bottom of mortises in this case a lock mortise. So it is a lock mortise chisel. It is a difficult and sometimes precarious task since some lock mortises will go dangerously close to the other side of door stile not allowing for mortise bottom to be chiseled in a regular manner. With this chisel one can in a very controlled way scrape or shave the bottom of mortise until depth is reached. It is extremely strong since that type of levering requires considerable effort.It will not work properly unless mortise is at least 5 inches deep since the fulcrum point would damage the ends of shallower mortises which may be seen. It is seldom seen since lock mortising was not attempted by many anyway and with the introduction of mechanized methods and availability of pre mortised doors need became nearly extinct. Besides being impressive looking it is a very effective tool for any mortise over 5 inches in depth. This one is very early 19th century. There are some out there also called lock mortising chisels but in reality are really large goose neck chisels designed for a regular mortise. Their fulcrum point is too shallow not allowing chisel’s cutting edge to reach center of mortise. Lock mortises can be pretty long. This one will allow complete work on a mortise 6 inches deep by 10 inches long.

Yesterday my wife and I went out to lunch with some good friends, first social outing for me since the stroke. While at the restaurant we had a torrential downpour with a couple of microbursts but they never lost power and we just enjoyed the extra time for conversation. By two pm it had cleared up enough to head home. Our creek was running as hard as I've ever seen it but no damage at all. About four pm the second wave of the storm hit which seemed to be stronger than the first wave but only lasted a half hour. There are a few small branches down but nothing too bad.

Overall, had about 2" of rain, and some of that was pretty heavy downpours. Lost power for a couple of hours, but other than that all is well.

I keep all that in the basement in the winter time. Along with the batteries out of the trailer queens and the galaxie. If I were you I'd put a closet in the new basement for that stuff. Or you could be like @WHX?? and just keep your garage heated. I know we can't all be fancy pants like that

News said Westminster MD got hammered , hope @rmaynard made out okay.

I have a heated shop but I also have a unheated garage that is primarily for storage. I can keep oils and spray paints in the unheated shop just latex paint I need to keep in the heated shop. I also keep my cleaning supplies in the heated shop. Batteries from stored cars and tractors are also kept in the heated shop. If I did not have a heated shop then the few items that can freeze could be stored on a shelf in the basement.

Well I was just an observer at the time, but saw the machine in different levels of restoration. Original or not, it was beautiful. And like most of his builds, practically brand new. Not only new paint and decals, it had all new wiring, and any bearing, ring, or seal that wasn't perfect was replaced. I've often wondered if he sold it what the asking price was.

I wish I could find the pic from the woods. It was even more convincing in the original post. Faded paint, rust, and cracked "595-HD" decals. It added quite a bit of realism to the prank.

Packed and am now at airport with the little woman to go overseas for three weeks. Somehow it makes for a stressful day.

My “tractor and machine shop” is an unheated , uninsulated shed. I keep all pesticides , herbicides, most spray paint cans and small paint cans there. They are placed within several of those styrofoam coolers one gets when stuff like meat is delivered. Nothing has ever frozen in them including a spray bottle with soapy water.

The 702 fuel tank has a 1 gallon capacity. I don't think the 25+HP engine would run very long on 1 gallon so an auxiliary fuel tank has been added. I wanted it to look similar to a tombstone weight but higher. I left it short enough to see the Wheel Horse emblem on the grille.

Man would I love to get into that doodle bug hobby. Wish I had the room and a big garage! There's always some creative things going on with those.

That looks good! I don’t plan on restoring this one I got, I just want to get it running solid and it will be my work tractor. The 120 I am restoring will be my show off one!
