Mrs. P and I just got back from an epic week! We panned 2.2 grains of gold, took a train to Canada, saw whales, caught salmon, gained some weight and had a blast! We flew in to Anchorage, took a ride to Seward, and cruised down to Vancouver on the Norwegian Spirit. We are glad to be home and have tons of pictures and videos to go through! The girls flew by themselves to see their “older sister” in Germany and will be home tomorrow with their own stories to tell. Here’s a couple of my favorites, and or new friend Alex

Hi! I'm from central Arkansas, and my compulsion for interesting mechanical things has combined with my need to both mow my lawn easier than pushing and to be able to schlep stuff around my vast 2-acre estate lol! Which has led me to discover the Wheel Horse tractor and subsequently this forum. My first introduction to the brand was a Facebook ad for a guy locally selling a C-195. After not much research, mostly here on RS, I became fascinated with the mechanics of the brand, especially the mule drive system for the deck and other accessories, so I went and looked at it and ultimately bought it from him. So now I'm going nuts about looking for these things, and I find another ad for a WH 48" mower deck. One of the pictures showed the deck sitting on the hood of the tractor with the remnants of the decals visible, which said C-175 Twin 8-speed. While it looks ROUGH, the body work is solid except for the fiberglass seat surround. The motor is locked up tight, and the transmission won't shift. I may see about repowering it if I can get the transmission figured out.

BUT I'm bringing back more Wheel Horses with a bigger trailer! It was sure nice of the guy to lend me a trailer when I picked up the two C-85's but it could only hold so much. This next trip is to return the guys trailer so I just put in the back of mine and will drop his trailer off. I was a little bit of work for a 64-year old guy ...... and the help of a Cat forklift with extended forks! Wild Bill in Richmond VA

Yesrterday I took the bulldozer to the barn and along the way smoothed out a nice road to get the WH loader down there later... I made a couple dozen passes thru the side barn to clear out a foot of sandy poop muck out the door and into the side yard. I forgot to put the chains back on it, but it did a fine job as always. Once it dries out a little more, I'll take the WH loader down there and dig it all out down to the base. I find it funny these things will do work in places the neighbors 5k little garden tractors cant go.

On a more serious note a little input and perspective from someone that had to learn the language from the two sides if I may. My last two years of school overseas before coming over, English was a requirement. I remember the first thing the teacher said “ we are going to learn English not American “. He was adamant about it and virtually reminded us everyday. Really did not mean anything to us since we had never met an English person much less an American. Needless to say I failed miserably those two years and hated not only the class but also the language. Little did I know that very soon it would become a necessity. Incredibly once here I found the language to actually be easy to learn. There was a whole different “liberty” as to things were pronounced and I guess the myriad of different accents around me made me not to feel so self conscious wether I was pronouncing it correctly or not. With all due respect to our friends across the pond even though yes the language was seriously altered here i and others that had to learn it , do feel that the American English is easier and more comfortable to learn. Last but not least why is it that with very few exceptions when singing , English artists sing with an American accent?

when it dies and won’t restart, it could indicate a lack of fuel or a lack of spark. Try cracking the fuel cap loose and see if it’ll start again. If not, check for spark. You can also try removing the condenser from the ignition system and see if it changes anything. It needs to be there to run proper, but if it goes bad it doesn’t allow spark.

I've been looking for a wheel horse for a while, to use, eventually restore and then pass down to my son. Yesterday this Wheel Horse came up on Marketplace and I picked it up for $425. I absolutely love it. Runs great, seems to have original tires and it seems to be in pretty good shape. I mowed my entire lawn and it didn't miss a beat. I've searched the forums and have downloaded all the manuals I could, however I was not able to find a user manual specific to the Raider 14, only 8,10 and 12. Questions: Does anyone happen to have a .pdf copy before I buy a hard copy off ebay of a user manual specific to the Raider 14? I'd like to lube all the moving parts, sharpen the blades, change all filters, oil etc. before my next mow. I prefer a mulching kit but I don't want to modify the deck in anyway. Any thoughts on that? However mowed great, and lawn looks great without the mulching. Please see below pictures for the next questions: When turning left, the deck shifts and the deck level wheel (that is all chewed up) rubs on the left rear tire. I assume because the front mount "rod" isn't securly in the holder? See picture. Any thoughts there? On the front manual PTO, I can't get that metal piece (that looks like a boat sail) to stay in the little metal pulley, any ideas there? Anything you experts recommend I do before continued use? I plan to keep this thing forever and thankfully I have the means and desire to put however much money into this as I want. What would you do to it if you were me?

The panoramic picture above, it’s Summit Lake northeast of Skagway. It’s near the US/Canada border and has two main inlets. Snow melt runs clear/blue water and glacial melt runs murky/green. It meets in the middle. While we were there, we heard it was the second warmest day on record in Alaska. Just weeks ago, there was walkable ice on Summit Lake still.

The loader was at the other end of the field cleaning up a feeding lot. I had to truck it home to clean out another barn but it started running odd and then flooded out and died. I got it running again to get it out of the yard where the cows would push it around and a very clever little goat would take it apart with her horns.... I got as far as the garden and thats where its in pieces being fixed....

The scratch is an issue however, if you want it done correct you need to measure the cylinder, in several locations, with a bore gauge.

Since @squonk always ribs @Stormin about driving on the wrong side of the motorway , I figured out that a Wheel Horse must have a center drive if the UK has right hand drive and the US has left hand drive . This does not aways apply since some of the known colonist will create some different machines from a horse . Like a mobile chicken coop powered by a WH.

I’ve been very interested in doing a 540 rpm conversion on my D200 just for the shear fact that I can buy implements I can actually use for it. The 2000 rpm implements have gotten so hard to find. Also, it would just be cool to me. Doing some research I found that ARK made a 2000rpm to 540rpm adapter box that was ran by chains and sprockets reducing it down to 540. Has anyone ever put this on a WH or built one? Thanks!

I dated her for a short time a year after I graduated. No 12 wide shoes at Waldo World. Have to order on line. Sheetz has come out with the Waldo Panini.. Saw it in Mansfield. I would have tried it but I don't live anchovies and Limburger. Saw a BBQ on 30 but I didn't have time to check it out.

@squonk I am surprised that the girl even acknowledged your presence. With feet that size do you just wear the boxes and throw the shoes away? No messing with the Volvo, although it does need a wash, not sure if I got all the PA. mud off. Have you located a new BBQ place, don't want to eat dinner at Sheetz again. Wonder if the BBQ place closed because they thought you were coming again?

Very interesting thread. I once worked with a Brit fella who was born to no money. He made some here n there and traveled a fair bit. Had a pile of different jobs as he went about experiencing life. Got himself mixed in with wealthy folks in Britain, then Monaco. Moved over here because he could. He was an excellent linguist with a smattering of French and a whole bunch of English and American accents and slang. He could have a full conversation in several "English" versions.

It took me months to convince the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority) Of the date of manufacture for my WH to get it registered so I could use it on public roads, even driving across a road from one private place to another would mean it needed registering. The horse doesn't need to pay vehicle excise duty (Road tax) due to its age, nor does it need an MOT for the same reason. If I killed someone with it they'd do a detailed inspection of the machine to see if mechanical defects played a part. If there were defects I should have been aware of that would be considered to be dangerous driving. It does need yearly insurance in case I do have a prang. I could also get prosecuted for drink driving (DUI) if I was over the limit on a road or other public place. Our law is pretty complicated and road traffic law even more so.

if you think I'm going to forget all of this at the show next year you are sadly mistaken. You will find your Volvo in your bathtub! Yes I am ugly and freely admit it. A girl in HS in fact used to call me "Ugly" She would yell it out if I was sitting in a classroom and she walked by even. Funny you mentioned Bigfoot. I wear 12W. I was riding my bike one day. A bunch of my friends were going fishing and one of the guy's Dad was driving them there. They passed by and the Dad who was a timid as a mouse said: "Boy Mike has big feet!" So one of the guys called me Bigfoot for about 10 years. I didn't care because he looked and acted like the cartoon character "Baby Huey" and I called him that.

Off topic : Last night while thinking about nothing I decided to check out the internet for a word. As we all know if it is on the internet it has to be true. Typed in Squonk and this following appeared on Wikipedia. The squonk is a mythical creature that is reputed to live in the hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania. I guess you know who could have hitched a ride on a lumber truck traveling north. It has misfitting skin which is covered in warts and moles. They also have webbed toes on their left feet. I guess we will have to wait for @rjg854 to report on his appearance when not clothed as they share a room when attending the Big Show. Randy no pictures please, we don't want the internet wires to burst into flames. Back to history , the first written account was a book in 1910. I figured our Squonk looked rough around the edges to be only 64. Later retelling about the creature states that they are slowest on moonlit nights as they try to avoid seeing their ugly appearance in any illuminated bodies of water. For anyone interested in traveling to Johnstown Pennsylvania in August the town holds a Squonkapalooza . I think the Squonk that we put up with may be the love child of a squonk and Big Foot.

The MOT test is now called a DOT test. But we all still call it an MOT. it stands for Ministry of Transport (transportation is an American thang lol) or Department of Transport. It is a nationwide standard and a yearly inspection to ensure a vehicle is roadworthy. New vehicles do not need one for the first three years. Taxis however have to have a separate test from new to ensure they are safe. Heavy goods vehicles and passenger vehicles also have similar tests every year. Mainly covers lights, seat belts, washers wipers, tyres, brake function, chassis body work and engine emissions. It's a pain in the neck and a bit of a waste of time, as a vehicle is only up to standard when it's at the test station; you could drive out of the station, hit a pot hole and damage a tyre and commit a traffic offence. We used to get motorists to produce their documents at a police station ( weirdly its not an offence to fail to carry your documents but it is an offence to fail to produce them to an officer, the defence is to produce them within 7 days at a cop shop). But these days it's all on the compooter so cars rarely get stopped and checked, so a lot of criminality is missed. An active IRA terror unit was stopped by a beat cop checking documents, they shot both cops killing one. I'm an ex cop so know this stuff pretty well. Mick

Well it took me a few days. I've been chasing a timing issue on my 1968 R50/2 and then while mowing on Tuesday had issues with my 60" deck. Seems like it's just one thing after the next. But I'll get back to that. So after I cleaned, coated with dielectric and reinstalled my regulator, the charging system is now functioning perfectly and I'm very pleased to report it! Thanks for all the tips. I had cleaned the connections but hadn't thought of removing the unit entirely to improve the grounding which was clearly the issue and while I should have thought of that, I didn't! So thank you! I also removed the air cleaner cover after another several hours of run time and there's no oil or much of any dust/dirt in there so I'm not sure what was going on there before but I still intend to clean the breather and check for proper assembly etc. So back to my deck issue. While mowing along one of my banks I noticed that the deck was no longer responding to the hydraulic. So I hopped off and got down to see that the arm that fits into the slot in the deck had slipped out leaving the deck in the fully lowered position without means of raising it. So I drove to a flat area, lowered the arm to align with the slot and tugged the deck back into place wondering what happened to knock it out. I went back to cutting and shortly after noticed the deck had once again dropped. This time I hopped off and saw that the arm hadn't slipped off but the upper trunnion chain attachment was lying on the top of the deck and it had come loose from whatever it attaches to above. Ugh! So I drove back over to the barn and figured this was going to take some time to figure out. Installing and removing this giant and very heavy deck is usually not too much trouble with the help of the hydraulic lift, but without it, the attach-a-matic isn't so easy. I eventually got it disconnected with the help of a 2x4 to remove the tension on the attach-a-matic and then just backed the tractor off the deck to get a better look at the upper trunnion. I then realized that there are 2 arms that the hydraulic controls and since the attachment had fallen off, I had no clue which one it was attached to. I looked for indications of the attachment, worn face, worn holes etc and it at least appeared that something had been attached to the upper arm but this left me wondering what the lower arm was for. I experimented with watching both and realized that pulling the hydraulic lever backward raises the upper arm and lowers the lower arm. So they're reversed and I've always raised the deck by pulling the lever back so this indicated that at least previously, the upper arm was where it was attached. But then I get to decide in which of the 3 positions and on which side. The gap was too tight on the right so I decided it must go in from the left and the rear most hole looked to be slightly more worn so I decided it must attach there. Now the issue is that the cotter or whatever secured the attachment had clearly sheared off and would need to be replaced. I was surprised to see that the attachment shaft was not long enough for a washer to be used behind the cotter which seems odd and prone to failure with each act of raising and lowering ultimately placing a portion of the force against the cotter. I couldn't believe it had lasted this long unless I'm missing something. At any rate, I took the opportunity to flip the deck upright, remove the blades, scrub the entire deck clean, sharpen the blades and hit each grease zerk before getting it ready to reinstall. I also couldn't help but notice that the rack of the deck that moves up and down looked a little out of whack and wondered if it got bent somehow and that is what allowed the arm to slip out of place. At any rate, I pulled the tractor back over the deck and got it hooked back up. I have always felt that the deck doesn't lift as high as it should, and I think I mentioned that in my first post. So I took this opportunity now that I was aware of this upper trunnion adjustment bolt to tighten the bolt to adjust the lift height. I tightened and tested until I felt the deck pin itself against the stops at the top, which it had never done. I wasn't sure if this was too tight so I then backed it off until it fell slightly short of being pinned. At this point I felt that the rear deck level adjustment required a bit of fiddling and wondered about the lift arm peg. While raising and lowering the deck it appears that the arm wants to walk out slightly and not keep the peg fully seated in the slot. It puzzles me that unlike the other attachment points, there's no hole in the peg to secure with washer and cotter. Unfortunately, while my tractor came with a manual for the tractor, motor, and many attachments, it did not include a manual specific to the 60" deck. Is one available online perhaps that I could print out to add to my 520H folder? Also, after reading through my exploration into the deck and the trunnion attachment, does it sound like I'm on the right track or can someone weigh in that perhaps I'm missing something? I have the chain attached to the rear-most hole in the lower lifting arm and the bottom link of the chain. What puzzles me is that the hydraulic moves through almost 75% of it's distance before taking up the slack of the chain and it seems like an odd design if in fact it's set up correctly. Sorry for the lengthy post but if anyone has read this far, thank you and I'm very glad to have found this community. I'm so glad my tractor is back to steady reliable charging and also glad to have learned so much from the group already to help keep my tractor running strong. I still intend to perform a compression test soon to get an idea of the health of the motor. From the power this thing produces, I'd be surprised to find low reading but we'll see. Okay that's all for now. Chris

Today's question is about MOT . I think it means Ministry of Transportation. I have watched some car shows on the Telley about getting a MOT inspection . Based on what I saw if a vehicle cannot pass the inspection it cannot be driven . Is the MOT inspection based on regulations that are the same in all of the UK? Here in the US the states regulate the inspection of personal vehicles . I was surprised to learn from pullstart that Michigan does not have a state inspection. If a vehicle cannot pass the inspection even after repairs are made, can you sell it for parts, or do you have to haul it to a scrapper? I think @Stormin commented that he had to purchase a new trailer since his new vehicle was not rated for his old trailer. Does the government regulate the size (capacity) of a trailer to a tow vehicle?

I’ve sometimes wondered how could there be so many “junk” Model T parts available for the Ponds and many other builders to use them in the 1940-50’s I Googled an when production stopped in 1927 over 15 million had been built.

The plastic fan is held on with one small bolt in the center, be sure that it is tight and the fan cannot be turned by hand. That small bolt needs to be installed with threadlocker since it can't be made extremely tight because of the plastic. The cooling fins on the hydro can only be completely cleaned by removing the seat and fender, if you go that far remove the fuel tank as well and do a complete cleaning. Engine cleaner and a garden hose will work well. I clean a mowing tractor that way every year.

I got the valve condition checked, head back on and torqued. I got the valve tappet clearances checked and adjusted. I had the governor set but had to loosen it up to get the valve adjustment covers off and back on. I put the sheet-metal back on and remounted pivots for carb linkages. I got my bushings for the throttle shaft and got it back on the carb'. I'll pick up the carb' rebuild kit and a condenser tomorrow. Who knows? I may get it running again tomorrow and see if I got it fixed while playing catch up.
