BUT I'm bringing back more Wheel Horses with a bigger trailer! It was sure nice of the guy to lend me a trailer when I picked up the two C-85's but it could only hold so much. This next trip is to return the guys trailer so I just put in the back of mine and will drop his trailer off. I say you chaps, there's nothing wrong with the way we Englishmen speak. After all is said and done we invented the language, it was you folk who messed about with it and came up with hood for bonnet and trunk for boot. Not to mention the Australians who have butchered and mispronounced our beautiful language. You should try some of our dialects, Yorkshire (my particular one) can be pretty opaque, even to English folk. "A wa gunnar pop darn to't footy field to watch raggy lads lakin but it were rainin so I took dog off" Translates to.. " I was intending to visit the local football park to see my team playing but due to inclement weather I decided not to go." We watch a lot of US cop shows and are fascinated by all the jargon and abbreviations. We use a lot of TLA's in police work (three letter abbreviations) but you guys go nuts at it; POTUS foxed me for some time. Any more requests to decipher English into Americanese then just let fly. I did considerable work to my travel trailer to make it usable. I replaced the cheap tires with LT load range D Goodyear Wranglers. The cheap steel wheels were replaced with wider aluminum ones to match the tire width. The skinny and bent 2-3/8" axles were replaced with heavier wall 3" tubes. The bent, broken and malformed springs were replaced with some from a farm store. The cheap too thin shackles were replaced with ones I made from 4140 HT steel. The bolts were all replaced with wet bolts so the new bronze bushings could be greased. Framework was added to beef up the frame and stop the cracking that I had in four places. Monroe gas shocks were added and fastened to the framework mentioned. All tires, wheels and drums were balanced as assemblies, because factory drums are not balanced at all. A TPMS was added to keep track of tire pressures and temperatures. Plus much more.

So here is the story that I got on this awesome display of ingenuity. Apparently he came in a little hot while making a left hand turn causing the boat to roll off the trailer and land upside down. At this point, instead of calling a tow truck. The driver decided to just tie the boat to the back of the trailer and try to get it home that way. He may have made it all the way home but unfortunately "for him". He was eventually surrounded by 3 police cars. 1 of which had to get in front of him to force him to stop. Subsequently he was sighted with a number of "awards" & got to spend some time in the crow bar hotel.

While doing research about the flatbed trailer that we are rebuilding I've been finding that the spring perches or mounts have been a trouble zone for a good many years. I've also been finding that over the last maybe 5 to 8 years? It's become a much worse problem, or maybe just better publicity? On tandem axle or triple axle trailers there's quite a bit of twist amongst the shared axles as these trailers are being turned or parked. Obviously the frame and suspension takes up massive amounts of weight in the total capacity possibilities. Manufacturers need to be able to sell these trailers to people that are more concerned with options than long-term strengths. There are products on the market and DIY add-ons that can be done to greatly increase the strength in these weak problem areas.

Surely the tow truck would have been significantly cheaper than the repairs that poor boat needs now. Does the police report also contain the words, "alcohol may have been a factor." ?

Actually we do. Spoiled little turds will eat every bush and potted plant, or raid the hay. They wiped out the corn and watermelons in my garden once in just a few minutes (someone left the gate open). They belong to my wife, and all I can say is she almost lost them all to lead poisoning on that day. They graze only when nothing else is available. Useless good for nothing!

Cylinder plumbing looks correct. Had to go back and forth to figure out what was going on with that crossed metal line but it's connected right. Not sure how much it makes a difference but the return line is connected to the BYD (Power Beyond) port. That port is typical for adding another valve for more circuits. Wonder if it restricts more fluid than the OUT port would for the return? Think mine was plumbed like that too but can't remember. Maybe @ebinmaine Eric can confirm since he has it now. One thing you could try is swapping the hoses on top of the valve to basically reverse what handle does what. This may tell you if that valve circuit in the valve is the cause if it works better If it still acts exactly the same then it's something else. (unless both circuits have an issue)

Did a well needed oil change on the 310-8 today greased it up and now ready for mowing duty!

I have a couple 42” RD decks here. Been using both and the one with baffles cuts better than the one without. So does anyone know why one has no baffles? Was it an add-on option from WH? Neither are recycler decks. Of course the no baffle deck is the one with a better shell . For experimental purposes I just swapped blades and will see if that changes anything when I mow again this weekend.

Simplicity (Allis-Chalmers) had an optional stirrup bracket (red arrow) for their blade to make this easier. It’s on the one I picked up last year. (Just remember that transferring your weight to the blade takes weight off the rear wheels giving traction!) With the Big Show and a family vacation behind me, refurbishing it as a mid-mount blade for my 854 has finally has made it to the top of my projects list! I am trying to figure out a simple mechanism for unlocking/locking the rotation without having to get off the seat and reach under the tractor. Right now, the lock bolt (blue arrow) goes through top and bottom plates on both the plow bracket and the frame. The WH single-pin mechanisms don’t translate well to this blade’s setup which splits the forces onto both sides of the frame and bracket members. A single, sliding pin here would need a lot of travel and some sort of guide for alignment--together, they would probably not leave enough clearance to the underside of the tractor when lifting the blade. That said, I'm thinking short pins--one above and one below--actuated simultaneously by cable with spring returns--possibly internal to the frame. Another thought is notching the blade bracket and adding a retracting locking bar on the frame, again cable actuated. Considering the forces involved, the pins/bar will have to be quite sturdy. Any ideas out there? Last note: like @squonk, I plan to adapt this to the 854 while retaining it’s usability on a Simplicity or Allis.

@Lane Ranger Lane, I'm afraid I have to disagree with the grease for many reasons. Although Wheel Horse recommends 30w there might be something to using a heavier gear lube but grease, no. I'd lay odds that I have put more hours on a side sickle than most and the 30w does the job just fine.

Since @squonk always ribs @Stormin about driving on the wrong side of the motorway , I figured out that a Wheel Horse must have a center drive if the UK has right hand drive and the US has left hand drive . This does not aways apply since some of the known colonist will create some different machines from a horse . Like a mobile chicken coop powered by a WH.

I watch a lot of UK police/ crime shows. Some of the words used there are not allowed on this family friendly forum, but I find them fascinating non-the-less. However, what I find strange is that the Brits go to university, whereas we go to a university. Brits go to hospital, we go to the hospital. Can't figure why they drop the "a" or "the". Anyway, it's fascinating to hear them speak. My wife and I have to keep closed captioning on so we can even translate the regular English they are speaking.

So first of all I wanted to tell you guys in the community how grateful I am for your help and the kind of good people that you are. Also understand that for Janine this is something that she can do and will give her some purpose for her day and she is very excited to have something in the future to look forward to. She has MS and it's a long story but this is a really big big thing for her. I was a beginning organic farmer and got hurt by a bowl and had my neck broken. That is what I like about Wheel Horse you know what you're getting and it's quality and I love that. The tractor we got from a gentleman who has many of them and he said this one never did run without the surging issue and I guess he got it about a year or two ago but before he sold it to me he did change the gasoline and did not know any breakdown of tubing. He is going to come over and we are going to look at that manifold and see if we can find out what's going on. Does anybody know why Onan split the manifold and is there a gasket to be replaced or is there a sealer that is good to use? Years back I know I had used silicon later to find out the gasoline broke it down and it ran like Snot in the engine. So on oil systems I'm okay with our TV. But anything gasoline I think about all I ever used was a Permatex shellac kind of compound. Sorry if things look a little messed up on the writing. I'm using talk to text since I can't use my hands. ..., my Wife of 46 years took her last breath and was gone. We buried her a week ago Saturday - she was diagnosed in late March with Esophageal Cancer. The sucessful recovery rate for that is appalingily low - 15%...... My adult children and I had to ask her 2 weeks before she passed as to just what her final wishes were, so it be clear in her final days. With the help of Friends, Old and New, we were able to meet her requests. She wanted to die at home... after her last Hospital stay, we had the help from Home Hospice to meet that request. They are exceptional people. Check... She wanted to be buried wearing her Wedding Gown. That one took the help from an old friend - my Best Man's Father in law. The FIL owned a string of Dry Cleaning stores in the Boston area, and as a Wedding present 46 years ago to my Wife, he cleaned and preserved her Gown on a form, Vacuum sealed in plastic, placed in a box, in a box, in a box. We had it saved for just that purpose. Check... She wanted to be buried locally in the same Cemetary as her Parents, in a plot near them for she and I, This almost did not happen - old Cemetary that was so full up, they recently demolished the Chapel to add a few more gravesites - and those were now full. I have known the Funeral Director for 25 years or more - he did a little checking and there was ONE double plot available that was recently sold back to the Church, as the previous family had other plans. He reserved it for us, part of the final bill. Just a row behind her parents, about 8 graves away. Check... Through the decline of her health, my Wife never lost her sense of humor. I took her for numerous CAT Scans and MRI's - the technicians have a shopping list of questions to be answered prior to the procedure... Do you have any metal in your body - pins, plates, or screws? - Nope she would reply. Dentures or partial plates? - another Nope. Any tattoos? - she would look them in the eye and say that there was no ink on her Birthday Suit!! Driving her home, she would remark that those technicians had a crappy job, and they needed a bit of cheering up..... Folks I run into ask how I am doing. I tell them I am not at the point were each day gets a little better, but each day sucks a little less than the day before..... Bill

I used to. Then we moved here where mutant grass grows year round. While you guys are pushing snow around, I'm still mowing at least twice a month. We had a couple weeks of single digit temps last year, so I got my first December off from mowing. During the summer, the grass grows about an inch per day. Even more when we have regular rainfall. The grass in the pic below is 6-7 inches tall, and was cut to 2 inches only 3 days ago.

No tractor projects to yak about, but I did run a gallon or more of fuel thru the 414-8 this afternoon. I love mowing and try to change up the pattern each time I mow.

great machines -- lucky you !!! I have the plastic seat pans on my two blackhood C175's -- i know some people prefer the tin pans but to me the plastic gives the unique characteristic look of the black hoods - plus i am fortunate no cracks in my pans !!!!!!

They are easy to use. The initial setup however can be tedious and frustrating. Center of bit has to be perfect centered on material so when one flips material on the second cut everything aligns perfectly when joined. Fingers are angled so that makes it difficult. For that reason I use the one below which has a 90 degree center tooth to make set up easier . The ones you show have replaceable cutters and offer other possibilities particularly dealing with different thickness of material. They are something that you will probably only use a few times any way.

Got the diesel engine placed on RJ. Waiting for engine pulley to get delivered before I start making/modifying motor mounts/plate. Gonna be a tight fit. Fuel tank definitely will need relocated because shifter hits it. Planned to relocate/replace fuel tank & use original filler opening on hood. My hood has been trimmed unfortunately, gonna try to clean it up & make it look better for now. It looks like with fuel tank relocated an original hood should fit. I'll find one after all the hard work/fabrication is over.

I can only guess that the whole peppergate thing is based on 'can't find good help since covid'... Save some seeds out of your best peppers Dan... try seeding our own next year.
