9 pointsPut the deck on the Free10-8 for the first time. Fired it up and engaged the blades and it is whisper quite. I was also able to squeeze it into the garage with the other 3 Horses even with the deck on. I couldn't be happier.

7 pointsI was fortunate to rescue what apperaed to be a low hour C-81 roller from a local scrap recycling yard. They buy all sorts of scrap, and they cull out all the potential saleable outdoor power items and have them in a row for inspection. The same with cars and trucks they buy - they do NOT sell individual parts, you have to buy and remove that entire item. It was a well cared for roller that someone grabbed the K181 for their use and scrapped the rest. I wanted it for the 8 speed - much to my delight, the shift boot, though old, was intact - the dipstick showed the gear oil was clean, full, and no evidence of water after I rolled it about 20 feet.I went into my 854....

6 pointsI tried it all ....traps, poison, calcium carbide, moth balls. Nothing worked till I pumped the tunnels full of Wheel Horse exhaust. They left 10 years ago and never came back.

5 pointsMy neighbors across the street have done battle with moles. They've learned that if you get rid of the mole's FOOD you get rid of the moles. They treat for grubs in the soil. Another option is C4.

5 pointsLittle Red on a shelf? With the humidity in Florida, I would change the fluids and then leave them in there. (rust) Put a little of the 4 cycle fuel Lowes and the like sells and run them a bit. Drain the tanks and maybe wet a rag with WD 40 and wipe down the insides best you can. (rust again)

5 pointsGotta love recycling other people’s ’junk’! Years ago I was scraping out after a powder room remodel and the owner asks me if the dump would take tires. I say, yes but they charge per tire. She says they are in the back of the garage. Let me know what they charge and I’ll pay you. When I go to get the tires they are on El Italia mag wheels and the tires still have the little nubs on them. Almost new! They came off of an Audi TT that they traded and had been sitting in the garage for a couple years. After practically pleaded with her to advertise them, and her not wanting to be bothered, I took them and advertised them on CL myself. Gone in less than 24 hrs for $500.

5 pointsMy Triumph Spitfire taught me English. You put the hood up when you wanted to stay dry in the rain. You opened the bonnet when you needed to work on the SU carburettor. The spare tyre was stored in the boot. It kept wanting me to use something called spanners on it. I made do with wrenches for those jobs. Sometimes we had quite heated discussions on that subject.

5 pointsThose kick start engines are good stuff. I was looking at some different engines with them and trying to figure out how to adapt a kick start mechanism to the WH bike.

5 pointsAt another local yard they had a OPE section. There was a 520 there with 4 tires and the axles. But the frt axle was the forward swept one and it had a Eaton with clean fluid. Had to pay $50 for it but I made that back with just the rear wheels. Related story. co -worker went to the same yard and told me about a nice plastic JD hood. I went and got it and paid like $5 for it. It was for a 300 series. Shined it up and put it on CL for something like $250. Lady calls me at work and wants to come NOW as she just ran her tractor into the fence and smashed the hood on her HUSBANDS TRACTOR and he isn't going to be happy when he gets home from work! I tell her I will be home at 3:30. She was waiting in my driveway. Spilt the cash with my co-worker

4 pointsDid I need another horse? Absolutely not, but for $50 I had to buy it. One of my wife's co-workers got in touch with me about this 312-8 that was rough and he emphasized rough. It needs lots of love so I don't know if I'm gonna part everything out or try and get it running. Always happy to have another one though!

4 pointsThe @Ed Kennell 953 from the Big Show shut off last week and didn't start. I have it in the neighbor's barn and didn't have tools with me to check it out at the time. The clamp screw on the coil is completely unscrewed and the coil slid down. Looks like the wire was too short with the coil all the way down. I found this:

4 pointsNo extensions needed. There are no side frame panels in the way. I got the front axle cut out today. I did a little visual mock up to show where this is headed. The frame rails have not been cut yet. I have a lot to build before I'm ready to do that.

4 pointsI have Gable vents on my shop and it used to get hot in there this time of the year as well. I installed a large vent fan at one Gable and let it run all the time. Keeps the shop much cooler.

4 pointsI have a 27 HP Westerbeke marine engine in one of my 35 ft sailboats. You will notice it has a "closed" cooling system with a heat exchanger that circulates anti freeze through the engine. The raw water (sea water) is pulled through an impeller and circulated through the heat exchanger to cool the antifreeze. Great thing about Westerbeke is they used a variety of different manufacturers parts and many are still available from larger marine supply stores. Being a gas engine, they are less desirable on boats and need a dedicated ventilation system for the engine compartment. Could have good resale on e-bay for someone needing a replacement or for parts.

4 pointsAgreed. No offense taken here. As we transfer parts, tools and supplies from the old outdoor workshop and basement workshop we've been doing some whittling down of our own. As is stands I have 4 factory built Horses and Colossus as future projects. Trina has 3 of her own to do. Then implements. ..... And the truck..... Not to mention the absolute myriad of daily things .... It's a shame to see a good pile o parts go out of circulation but as pointed out above, all would need work just for use.

4 pointsI can tell you that I don’t have a ton into it. It was a gen set. It has compression. It’s got a belt driven governor. It’s pretty sweet. It looks to be somewhat valuable!

3 pointsI use Windex. Clean the area, then a light but full coverage spray. You can use a folded cloth to squeegee any bubbles, plus the decal can be slid around until in place. You can lift and relocate as needed. If it begins to stick, just spray more Windex under it. The Windex doesn't affect the adhesive, and it's slick as a wet fish. Once squeegeed out, leave the decals alone overnight at least. The Windex evaporates and leaves a solid ahesion. The vinyl quality Terry uses works very well with this procedure. I've never had one wrinkle or come off.

3 pointsNope. There were 2 lawnmowers(walk behind self propelled) they wanted gone also. I got both running with minimal effort.. Gave one to my brother and used the Toro for a couple years then sold it for $50. Some people just have many more dollars than sense.

3 pointsMowed the widows back lawn, about 1/2 an acre, with the C-125. Not been done for three weeks and was about 6-7 inches tall and thick in places. Took an hour and a half. Some places high 1st. Some others, to many, low 3rd at times and 2nd and even 1st in places. Tomorrow going to see what I can do with her 1980s something Snapper ride on. The deck lift lever broke a while back and even though I tried to weld it, being some kind of alloy or even magnesium, was rather a rough job. May hold up, most likely not, but I'll see if the deck can be set in one position.

3 pointsI always use a couple of drops of dish soap in a spray bottle of water. Make sure the surface is clean, then spray both the surface and the decal. Place the decal, check for proper placement, move if necessary, then squeegee the air bubbles as well as the excess water out from under. The wet method is the only method that allows you to move the decal once placed. Good luck.

I think it was called Maine Big Game magazine no longer in business. They were from Dover-Foxcroft, Maine where both my camps were located, I'll see what I can do.

2 pointsOne thing you can check is test the battery voltage across the battery posts. Now turn the key to RUN with the engine not running. Test the voltage at the regulator DC terminal. Should be the same voltage.

2 points@SmilingBob, one thing you could try is to add a separate ground wire to the regulator/rectifier mounting screw. Those charging systems can act weird if the reg./rect. Is not grounded properly. Over time the original metal to metal contacts can get rusted or loose and make for a poor connection. -JD-
