11 pointsI've liked farm and garden tractors since I was a little kid. I remember the 10 year old me poring over Sears catalogs, comparing garden tractors. But I didn't buy one until about 10 years ago, when I was in my early 50's. Since then, I've had roughly 20, but never more than 5 at a time, because I lack space, greenbacks and most important, an understanding wife. I'm not a Wheel Horse-only guy, but I've had more Wheel Horses than any other make. Last week I'm minding my own business and on my way to work when I pass an old small farm tractor sitting out with a For Sale sign, down the road from my house. I didn't have time to stop. The next day I left a little earlier and stopped. It was a Farmall Cub with its original paint and decals. The serial number was 808! Farmall serial numbers start at 501, so it was the 308th Cub built, out of more than 245,000. I had to have it. The problem was that I had promised my wife "no more tractors", but had already broken the promise several times. It would be really crappy of me to do it again. The next few days were agonizing, as I tried to talk myself out of it. No luck. I finally came up with a proposal: I'll sell all of my tractors if I can buy the cub. She went for it! The two Horses I had went to good homes. The last to go was a Case 220 that left Sunday. Sometimes I question such a drastic move, but then I fire up the Cub, and all doubt goes away. And I'm sure I'll have a Horse again some day. I just have to ease into it. Yesterday I bid on and won a Snapper in an online auction. I have yet to tell my wife. There were several Horses in the auction, but I didn't bid on them because I wanted to stay under $100. I'm taking baby steps.

8 pointsI just got off the phone with 953nut and he's doing great. He gets to go home to North Carolina this week. He's in good spirits talking up a storm. Thank you all for your prayers. GOD is in control.

5 pointsI finally decided to restore my grandpa's 1974 C-120 with the original HH120 motor on it. It will be a big project and i look forward to getting it completed for everyone to see! I would like to hear anyone's criticism or advice as i have never done a project this big especially engine work on this level! Happy 4th to everyone out there! BTW he (my grandpa) is waving at everyone in the picture!

4 pointsCorrect it's a Bronco 14. The weight set was online, many years ago (2007 maybe) but I'm sorry can't remember where. I made a bracket so they could hang on the front hitch so they could move from tractor to tractor.

3 pointsI agree with @Pullstart. I would put a washer on the end with a c-clip. Keep up the good work.

3 pointsI got my red status back - for 2 years this time around - so now I can post pictures again. Here is the brace for the stack I came up with: I'll run it for a while to make sure it works, then paint up to purdify it. Flat black for the pipes and muffler (high temp) and Regal Red for the brace, I think. Probably will add a tink, tink cap for fun as well.

3 pointsCan't say as I remember crank out windshields all too well, but I do remember my Grandfather had a 1947 Pontiac with a lever under the dash that when you moved the lever it would open a big air scoop right in front of the windshield that would force air into the interior of the car. I guess when cars got air conditioning the big air scoop was no longer necessary.

2 pointsI laid out the build on the shop floor and the frame is going to be +/- 8'. I ordered the 2x2x3/8 angle iron for the frame today and dug around on the metal storage rack and found a piece of 2x3x1/4 tube steel to make the axle and some round stock to make the spindle and axle pin supports. I may get started sticking metal together this weekend.

2 pointsCAREFUL - these may LOOK like a car coil, but............ You NEED the one with the internal resistor to keep from toasting the points in short order!! There are numerous threads dealing with this - do a search. Some include resistance values to determine the suitability of the coil...

2 pointsRunning low on time available today. I do want to keep a steady ish pace and try to get this trailer usable for @JCM Jim's Meet n Greet in Sept. We already have a busy couple months ahead but I think we can make it happen. I got the rest of the DOT light wiring harness removed and cleaned up the area a tiny bit. Next few days.. Camping!!

2 pointsWhen selling your Wheel Horses you should have priced your “favorite one” a bit high (the I don’t want to sell it price) and you might of still had at least on WH….all the while telling your wife “ Its for sale, just nobody wants it”.
-
2 pointsI replaced mine, but it was worn out like no other! Best way to get a new or used set is to contact A-Z tractor or K and B Wheel Horse, both vendors right here on Redsquare.
-
2 pointsThe slot that it clicks into down by the adjustment knob might be worn out. It can be removed and a little dab of weld and a grinder will fix it up if this is where the issue is. Assuming yours is a manual lift

2 pointsThanks, @peter lena. (Great name, btw! 😉) I had the dash out when I bought it & cleaned all of the dried debris. Everything looked OK, but I'll pull it again and check all of the connections again. I guess I should wire brush whatever may need it, and use dielectric grease upon reassembly while I'm at it.

2 pointsInteresting. I'm reading here about power outages and generators when our Generac and all of the neighbor's Generacs fire up. Sunny almost 90, gentle wind at the moment. No idea why the power dropped. Boat motors. I'm having long discussions with the 20hp Honda on our pontoon about starting when cold. This engine does not have a conventional choke. It has something called a 'cold start enrichment circuit'. I suspect that there is some minute bit of crud somewhere in the carb where it should not be. Once I get it started for the first time of the day, it runs and starts just fine.
-
2 points@mower might try running a steel gas line inside the frame corner edge , would be easy to install and secure , extend it about 6" out of each end , put a cap on that to keep it clean , then as you build up , you can ad a clear vilyl fuel hose , fuel filter , to fuel tank or carb . see a number of areas to enhance , pete

2 pointsThey usually work well but if one diode fails you cant fix it, then you have to find another matching replacement. I mainly ran into it with my trailer lights, they had them built in and it was fine intil half the brake light ring on one side failed and i couldnt find another single light so i had to get a while kit

2 pointsJust an FYI, I'm not a Tecky guy, but I've read the some of the ignition modules for those are becoming hard to find. As you reassembly, rewire, and start it up, be really careful with 12v around those parts. Don't hesitate to reach out to the Tecky guys on here for guidance. If your ignition modules don't work, their are some options to retrofit some different equipment.

2 pointsYes. That bar is used to attach an xi deck to the attach a matic. That wear is common and is generally not an issue. Might trade you something for it one day.
-
2 pointsOh, you got it bad! Your wife knows the horses are coming back, maybe with different names. Nice Cub tho!
-
2 pointsJust a taste of what my collection is looking like these days. I have 9 more round hoods outside waiting to be cleaned up.
-
2 pointsI think mine sits a bit further forward than Don's. The Onan adapter plate may have the PTO loop slightly forward as well.
-
2 pointsDon luckily I have all the original paperwork that came with it for cheat sheets! But I would never!!!!

2 pointsI’m in agreement, I just bought a dune buggy to play with, 1967 based car seems so much easier to work on. No computers, no sensors, probably doesn’t have a semiconductor anywhere. I’m going back to the old days when I messed with air cooled engines.

2 pointsGot that right Plunge... even at shows she gets her cover. First one here but by tomorrow night this barn will be filled. All set up and ready to rock. Hotter than hades today ...hope it cools off or the beverages are gonna take a beating.

2 pointsBought this in 1972. 1947 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery. Similar to panel truck but this is based upon a car frame. From seat forward it's a car. Drive train is 1957 Chevrolet car and the engine was rebuilt with a Montgomery & Wards engine kit. Of course vacuum wipers, dimmer switch on floor. In addition it has a heat riser on the exhaust manifold that directs part of the exhaust to the intake manifold to help with cold weather start-ups. Heat risers require regular maintenance so they don't rust up and quit working. The distributor has a grease cup that every so often needs to be turned to help force grease into the distributor bushings. On the front wheel well, is a valve that I close in the spring and open in fall to allow engine coolant to flow to the heater. From factory, "three on the tree" but when your 19 years old or so floor shifter so much cooler! It came with 16" wheels but we changed them over to 14" so I could use rally type wheels--besides that 16" tires were almost unheard of in 1973. Still using "knee action shocks" on the front. They leak a little so I made a reservoir and a line to each shock that allows light grease to keep them topped off. I only drive it 600 or so miles a year. It came with single tail/stop light in the middle of the back door. When we rebuilt it, we added tail/stop lights from a '47 car so we could have turn signals. This ole car looked better 50 years ago--but so did I!

2 pointsLooks to have the holes to to bolt down to a standard Kohler big block mount. You can mount it with that plate but the PTO placement will be farther to the front. The Vanguard hole need to be closer to the back Kohler holes if you want to used the 7473 drive belt and keep the original location of the PTO.

2 pointsFound this adapter plate that I was reminded of by something @Lee1977 said. @Sparky gave it to me a year or three ago. Given an adjustment to the holes it should work for a Briggs V-Twin adapter.

2 pointsNot gonna lie, there was a fair amount of sulking yesterday but I'm over it now. Nothing a little time & money won't fix. Gotta figure out if it's the stator, pick up or power box. I'll make the ole 45hp Mariner live again.
