9 pointsI spent a few hours working on and cleaning my 1994, 264hr 314-H that I bought a month ago for $100. The seller said the transmission was squealing. It wouldn’t start when I picked it up, but $100 is low risk, so I took it. Searching here about what the cause could be, I came across a post by Ed Kennel, saying it’s often the tensioner pulley. Turns out, that was the problem. Replaced it with OEM Toro pulley for $25. I also changed the oil, transmission filter and oil as well as the gas line, gas filter and installed a primer bulb. I discovered while cleaning it that it has what I think are wheel weights. Only thing left is to fix the lights.

8 pointsThere seems to be several members with the same idea and I have gained some knowledge from these excellent builders so this thread will be about me sharing what works and what doesn't work for me as I progress. This is the parts list so far.10hp Kohler, 3 speed uni drive, axle, wheels, hubs, hood stand, parts of hoods, steering components, hydraulic cylinder and pump, and misc rods and brackets. The rest I will have to make or buy. I don't like to cut up good parts for a project so this may get interesting. I will post pictures when I get parts in hand and progress pictures as I go.

6 pointsCut the grass with the 310-8 and then took the old Chevy out for a ride in the country. It really makes you realize that you don't need half of the gadgets that the newer model trucks have to enjoy the ride. The 4 speed manual makes the ride even more enjoyable.

5 pointsBuilt today a new Barbecue and Griller Place. The old floor was rotten, so it was urgently time to rework it. Now i have ad a Griller‘s Chair with a small Sideboard to the Pavillion side added. Kati paints the Wood to make it more Weatherproofing. We get the Wood from a Farmer as gift for my Fawn Saving tasks from 2 Valley‘s ahead. - a classic Win win situation for all.

5 pointsThey're fun. I don't have any pictures of my 1938 Raleigh in the last couple years, it's fitted with an old Sears gas engine kit over the front wheel now. This was years ago last time I had it out. No cables, the brakes are worked off rods and bellcranks running under the frame. Has the three speed Sturmey Archer rear hub. I used to have a beautiful 1952 Columbia Superbe but the thing was ungodly heavy for our hilly area. Had an 1890's Iver Johnson shaft drive way back. Sold that to buy my first nice WH actually.

4 pointsExactly, put the ground on the same bare base metal that you will be striking the arc on. Improper grounding can ruin bearings in transmissions.

4 pointsI have welded on plenty of machines and the battery is of least concern. The most important is putting the ground in good contact with the work. No moving joints, bearings, other components etc. Grind a nice bare spot for the ground on the bucket. If you are concerned with the battery it is an easy disconnect.

4 pointsI had put a smaller transmission pulley on the 1467 Special for the show cruise. Of course as it always happens the throttle decided to stop locking as I drove it off the trailer. I knew it would be a PITA in the cruise to hold the throttle open. And a clothes pin vice grip idea was out because it would be too fast for conditions (traffic/kids). Bought a new cable at the show but I really didn't want to spend time there working instead of visiting/ buying. So today I removed the cable and took it apart and recrimped the ferrule thingy and got it locking again.I'll save the new cable for another time when it's needed.

4 pointsNot a dumper, but a few more ideas Jay. Can haul four people. Or long loads. I found the Eaton 5 hydro had had controls that were easy to adapt to a two seater. F/R motion control stick, A push/ pull tow valve that I use as a clutch for start up. An external parking brake. All at the center under the seat.

4 pointsI am a service manager at an outdoor power equipment store in Elkhart Indiana. I have a long time and good customer with a modified Wheel Horse, picture attached to post. The unit needs a transmission and I am at a loss :( He has built his own railroad system at a campground and uses it to give kids free rides on the train. The following information is what my technician was able to get off the transmission; Sundstrand hydro transmission 90-1173 L.H. 3102910-04 04-UD 16702 If there is anyone that can help point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I should add that we are a Toro dealer and Toro has not been able to help me.

4 pointsSo the story goes and from what I can remember, they were painted in red with no graphics for field testing.. I suppose, should things go poorly, it could be covered up and not traced to JD. I saw an original in Florida years ago.

3 pointsWell, I finally shot some some paint on the deck after a frew days of rust and surface prep. My deck had spent several years outside in the California semi-desert, and although not far gone, had a pretty good case of “patina.” Judging from the underside of the deck, it’s experienced very little use, and all of the fittings were still very well greased, and ran incredibly smooth, so for now, I decided to forgo going deep. I’ll do that in a little bit. I need to get this mower in action. This tractor, although gradually being restored is a user. The paint is Sunrise Red from RustOleum. I really think this color looks great and pretty close to what I remember. Wheelhorse Tractor’s looking like as a kid.

3 pointsBeen contemplating for some time to do this so I could replace the steering / top console that someone along the line decided to cut a hole in the upper right corner. Also the gauge and shift plate need to have the decals removed and strip and paint all three. I have a source on a replacement top console that is part # 111271 that I am awaiting confirmation. If for some reason that doesn't pan out I will put an add in the classified section here looking for a 400 or 300 series console. both have test lights. Made a support bracket to stabilize the steering shaft and after some deep creep soaking got out the 3/16 snap-on roll pin punch to do its job. The black cover for the shaft is solid on this model unlike the 300 and other 400 series tractors.

3 points@JCM wait you can,t do that ! eliminate wheel bounce , with a wall stud , you been snoopin around in my trouble zone ? only horsing around on that , once I eliminated that bounce , and a solid 3/16 roll punch , in holder , and 3/ lb hammer , pin slid right out .that deep creep , gets it done , pete

3 pointsMe n The BBT went a couple mountains over to Mt Cutler today. The trail starts right near the old East Hiram ME Railroad Station area. It hasn't been used for decades but is still in possession of the RR company. Many moons ago Hiram was a large enough station to warrant a track siding for switching RR cars around. This hole in the forest floor is one of several water cisterns used for storage for the steam trains. The station was also a stopping and refilling point. These water storage wells are part of a stream that runs year round. The bridge across the Saco River is visible in the distance. A few more pics...

3 pointsThat's a pretty good start. Another thought was to turn the trailer bed sideways to go wide and shorter vs long and skinny. Going wide can accommodate 2 seats and the steering would give a better turning radius. That keeps most of the weight directly over the rear wheels too Something else was using the WH PTO clutch as the actual driving clutch but that adds a 3rd pedal too. Rear suspension with leaf springs? I like @WHX?? 's of going Hydro too and using the hydraulics. I have a power steering setup from a Sunstar tractor that could be plumbed to a hydro trans. I'm just throwing stuff up against the wall again to what sticks and sharing ideas can help come up with a design or solution

3 pointsLots of stuff here that can be purposed for your build. Don't be afraid to ask. I have a C-160 hydro rear end with good hydraulics if you go that route.

3 pointsWheel Horse generators were an official attachment. The generator was made by Generac then branded as WH. I know that a generator will run as a motor for a short time, until the diodes on the field coil burn out. To make a motor into a gen would be a challenge. Would need to add a field coil to regulate output power. A regulator would be needed, then I would not be sure if the windings would hold up. You would be better off to find a belt drive generator & adapt it to a tractor.

3 pointsInteresting article. I'm not much of a JD fan for the most part but I do have an appreciation for the early round fenders. In fact I have a set here to be used after the green stuff is removed. Likely on Colossus but could be other possibilities too. I find it VERY interesting that the early 110 prototype in the article is.... Red ((??!!))... Anyone know why?

As far as the transmission goes couple guys we know can help you out. Notably @pfrederi or ? Help me out fellas brain fart the Hydro pro... Dave? We do have manuals here for it your tech to study. Other guys can link them up I'm dumb phone challenged What is the tranny doing or not doing? We need to keep this tractor running. The orginal builder with people hauler. Big show 2016

2 pointsThough I feel like the entire wiring harness needs cleaning, I am going to attack the charging circuit alone. Afterwards, I’ll clean it up a bit at a time. I found a separate wiring diagram to simplify things.

2 pointsFunny, that. I actually told my wife at one point that I had seen pictures of a generator mounted on the front of a Wheel Horse, and wished I had one. I have 3 running tractors and one sort-of-running-and-better-after-the-new-carb-gets-installed, so the engine wouldn't be a problem. So I'm wondering: was that an official WH attachment, or home-built? Or both? I already have a home-built 2" receiver that goes on the mule attachment, so it wouldn't be difficult to adapt a generator. I have several electric motors - can those be reverse-engineered to work as a generator?

2 pointsFound some files. This should cover the D series Sundstrand trans. Think that was originally built by a guy from FL. Very nice build the guy did as I remember seeing down in PA. You can post a wanted ad in the classified section here on RS for a D series Transmission. @gwest_ca is the manual guru here and he'll make sure you get the right manual. Used parts are available so the good people here should be able to hook you up. I never had a D series tractor
