Hey Y’all, I had this idea. Please don’t be shy. Got kids? Have them join the fun. I’ll have some sharpies laid out on this tractor. Please sign it, write something, whatever. RedSquare Handle, legal name, anything goes as long as it’s clean. We lost two valuable members of the community this past year, @roadapples and @phil bowling. Mr. Jay hauled this thing home for me last year to store it until this week. If you’d like to write something about them, or the show, or whatever, please do. My plan is to wet sand it a bit before the beginning, then clear the whole thing.

I started dealing on this tractor last summer. The owners asking price was not bad but the timing was & I really didn't need another tractor. A few weeks ago he called me with a price that I could not turn down, bet @WHX?? can guess what the price was. So here are some pictures of the 1969 GT 14 that I added to my heard. A bunch of loose parts to go with it. The PO apparently did not like to take the hood off of the tractor so he was nice enough to add some access holes in the hood. One for dip stick, one for the gas cap. The hopefully good part is that there was some work done already. According to the PO the engine and transmission have been rebuilt already. The receipts that were in with the manual reflect this information. One concerning thing is that he said that he had never started the engine. Oh, & all the receipts that have a date on them have a date of 1996. The engine does spin over so I guess we will see. @ebinmaine ask if you all would be seeing a refresh on a GT 14 . Well there will be one some day, but not some day soon. For now it has changed from his "to do someday list" to my "to do some day list" Before I start doing any type of rehab on it I will get it running and driving. There was some added costs for this tractor. One spare wheel holder, one spare wheel, and one spare tire cover. They were all there when I left on this trip. Not there when I arrived at the PO's place. . I will be making, not purchasing my next spare wheel holder.

The house is now butternut. Olympic solid stain I used on the hunting shack five years ago and holding up well. See how well it stacks up against what they claim. Looks nice. Started at 8:30 done at 11:30. Dry to walk on by 4. Hot and dry here today. More work pulling all the crap off and putting it back on. Trim is gonna get a darker shade of green.

84 to 81. Better have a truck with some snot to pull the hills! I have been on both ends of that. This year I am covered! 2024 Denali ultimate 3500 with duramax! She has 430 Ho and 975lb ft or torque. She can tow 22,000lbs but I am less than 8 fully loaded! Also don’t forget to check your air pressure!!

Hello everyone, Back with a new membership name after many many years away. So, I just re-acquired my Wheel Horse C-160 Automatic that I sadly and regrettably sold back in 2017. I had kept the phone number of the gentleman that bought it, and we were able to make a deal and he was very happy to sell it back to me. So happy my girl is back in the garage with me. It is quite a wonderful tractor, one that I use regularly and when I purchased it from a friend, he had a massive file including all original documents, bill of sale, service documents and even the original manuals for the tractor and all its implements. It even had the original hanging tag from the showroom floor lol. It runs wonderfully, and I am entertaining the ideas about paint restoration. I’ve been looking at all of the valuable knowledge on the forum and I am so happy to be here again. I just replaced the seat as rats had completely devoured the other one during its time at my friends place, and I will be attaching the armrests from the original seat when I get home. I might add some tractor tread style tires to the front… I always love that look. I had custom built a beautiful box scraper for it which is in need of some tender loving care and a new paint job… And soon the tractor will be back to work. Jason

About 3 years ago my neighbors son bought a 100 acre far in the middle of nowhere to expand his organic Chicken, hog and beef operation which he sells at the Dallas Farmers Market. The place had a 1970’s house on it that they have slowly updated. In the garage was this Honda Riding mower. Best we can tell it is a 1986. They stopped making them in 1988. It didn’t run so he brought it home to tinker on. He’s had lots of question for me, and I’m no expert, but a carb cleaning and fixing some electric wires got it running. IThe Honda aluminum engine smoked at first, but gradually improved over a couple of lawn mowings. So he took it to the farm for his son to use. Fast forward to a few weeks ago he brought it home as it wouldn’t start. He tinkered on it and would ask me questions, but didn’t want to bother me for me to work on it. So he finally figured out it was the solenoid which was very hard to reach mounted directly to the started. He out-boarded one and just had it hanging on the wires. It started and he drove it around to the end of the driveway, killed it and it wouldn’t restart. I walked over and he was ready to haul it to the scrap yard. After he told me about the hanging solenoid I grabbed a screw driver and grounded the solenoid to the frame. Started right up. As they say every now and then even a blind hog can find an Apple. So he bolted the solenoid down and was all smiles testing it mowing his lawn. I told him I want it if he ever gets serious about hauling it to the scrap yard.

You Wisconsiny guys and your trailer tire issues. Think one of you need to cut loose and buy an old U- Haul truck with one of those ramp thingy's. You can actually hide tractors in them until the heat is off. I had a GT-14 years ago. Had a plow and a straight pipe stack. I put a rain cap on it for my entertainment.

You will need to pull the head. But start by spraying all the bolts on the head with your favorite penetrating oil Especially the ones by the exhaust and the little one that bolts the tin to the side of the head. Do this a couple of times a day for a couple of days. Clean the area around the head so nothing can get into the cylinder. When you start removing bolts loosen slightly, spray penetrant, tighten a little, then loosen. Repeat this until the bolt is turning freely. Don’t force them, a broken bolt is even a bigger problem. If the bolts by the exhaust down want to move, keep soaking with penetrant and let us know so we can help. Most of the time they come out without a problem. I like to Buy a head gasket that has a “Ring” right around around the cylinder. To me these just seem a little better. You should sand the aluminum head flat. There’s a simple procedure on here one of us will post for you. Pist a picture of the bottom of the head, the old head gasket and the top of the engine wit the piston at the top. While the head is off it’s an ideal time to clean any carbon off the head, piston and valves. Use a plastic or hardwood scraper so you don’t scratch the aluminum piston. To reinstall you will need a torque wrench. If you don’t have on most auto parts stirs will loan you one. Go to the manuals section and down load the Manual for you engine if you don’t already have one. There will be a procedure/sequence to tighten the head bolts with the torque wrench. Sanding the head flat and properly torquing it should cure the problem. Per the manual you should run the engine to warm it up good, then retorque the head bolts.

Have any driving tips for the newcomers? Post them here! Coming from the west on 70/76? DON’T GET OFF AT WILLOW HILL! Continue through the next tunnel to 997 and head south. It’s 13 miles or so out of the way and you bypass Mountain Goat Trail. It’s a doozy when hauling a trailer. I kissed the ground when I made it to the landing pad on the other side!

I still plan on having fun -- rain or shine. Rain will hamper it some as the trailer queen guys don't like morning dew on their expensive restorations let alone rain. They put a lot of time and effort to those tractors. It's an outdoor event so it's better attendance with nice weather but we can all get cozy under the roofs of the vendor barns during rain. Now, camping in a tent during rain, that's a different story. They might need 3 or 4 hampers for the wet clothes. But those are still the fun stories told years later.
  20. 3 points
There’s food onsite and plenty of buildings to get out of rain. The rain may put a damper on the parade attendance but as long as @Wild Bill in VA has a tent to stand in I believe it will happen. Get ready to meet some nice like minded people. To me that’s probably the best part!!

Thanks guys! For my birthday (after work) I’ll be preparing to go to the big show! Weather forecast isn’t looking so great but come hell or high water I’ll be there!! Can’t wait to see all the familiar faces 😀 Someday we have to get @JCM and @ebinmaine to make the trek. I like to refer to it as the pilgrimage!

I gently punch an awl through them and pry them out, being careful not to drive it into the casting behind. They are cheap to buy, usually in packs of 10 on the and installation is simple. Google it, there are some good tutorials on video. What I have found lately is that even with relatively new carbs, is that fuel lines disintegrate from the inside because of the ethanol and small pieces find their way into the drillings and jets. That is something compressed air takes care of during a cleaning or rebuild as opposed to the corrosion that ultrasonic cleaners and solvents take care of. All of those drillings have a purpose. I now move the fuel filter as close to the carb as possible and replace fuel lines every couple years.

New aftermarket carb is installed and I must say I am impressed with how it runs! No more surging most importantly! I will most likely strip the original one down and pull all of the plugs in it and give it a thorough cleaning and keep it as a back up incase this one doesn't hold up but for under $40 it is definitely worth the try!

Anthony - you may be better off buying a sheet or two of gasket material - one heavy paper, the other semi-rigid silicone, and making your own... Trace the inverted bowl on it, offset a line xx inches inside it to seal. Cut the ID first, then the OD....

Everybody can't think of everything, which is why we all share on a forum like this. I wouldn't charge for my welding or submit it for prizes, but I have fabricated a number of attachments, and done many repairs over the years, all quite successfully. This thread alone has helped more than I could have expected.

Bought a C-120 once that the PO stated something was wrong with the engine, possibly a rod going. It would run but made an awful noise. I noticed a black spot along the head where the gasket appeared to be leaking. Followed the directions from folks on this site as listed above. Planing the head is critical. The thing now starts and runs smooth as silk! Suggest you adjust the valves and check the points while you are in there, as well as de-carbon.

I have a GT 14, was my first wheel horse and its a beast! I fabricated a front end "garden bucket" using a linear actuator. Mine has the 3 pt hitch which is a nice feature. Some use a rockshaft but mine is a dedicated hydro cylinder at the rear. Other than pull type implements the C series attachments do not work on the GT 14 without modification, as far as I can tell. The Tiller is dedicated and the mower deck uses a different mule drive. Good luck with the GT 14!

I was lucky to scrap up $600 for a good used 75 model in the eighties. I could not imagine spending north of 3k for a machine. Lots of folks did.....figured they we upside down eventually. (I am glad a bunch did tho, ended up with a few of those now!)

Don, I think you are on to something. I woke up early this morning (actually didn't sleep) went out to the shop as soon as the sun came up, got my Fluke meter out and checked my probe to probe reading, 0.00 ohm. I put my meter on the terminals of the switch and got a 0.16 ohm reading. So I took the switch apart again and tapped the rivets. Put the switch back together and now I have a 0.00 ohm reading. After I have my morning coffee, I will reattach it and test. Keeping fingers crossed.

Excellent description and Worth reading again so I quoted it. IMHO: planing the cylinder head IS NECESSARY. Here's a video of my Other Half, Trina showing how we use a FLAT CLEAN piece of steel with sandpaper taped to it to plane our cylinder heads. I don't rotate them as fast or often as she does but it's a personal preference. It'll need to be rotated maybe every 10 to 20 strokes. We normally start with 180 grit. Got to 240 or up to 320 ish. Finish off with 400. It takes varying time to complete depending on how warped the head is.

A concern Don We yaked a little about that. I offered a scoot ride retracing his steps. It could be in 4 ft of tall weeds on the side of the road... 900 ft in a cornfield... maybe someone already picked it up? Dan says it's like looking for Jimmy Hoffa tho... Keep an eye out on local news to see if anybody was maimed by a flying tire is all we can do. Sure does put a Debby Downer on a good score tho.
