9 pointsSometime back came across an old Colombian vise. Thought it would be ideal for my youngest son’s box . Made brass jaws for vise since he works with delicate parts many times. Made him also a butcher block top to go with it prepared with threaded inserts on both ends in case he decides to change vise to the other side. Or if he thinks like me add another one. Needless to say his expression when he saw me there with was priceless. For me it is what life is all about.

7 pointsSo as many of you know i picked this up for free about a month ago. Gave me some trouble getting it running but it is now running and driving again. Previous owner didn't want to repair it. The throttle plate on the carb had come off and the carb was damaged. The starter was also sticking. Offered it to me for free if I just came to pick it up. Long story short after a couple of carburetor tries, new head gasket, cleaned and greased the bendix on starter, new battery, new fuel filter, new gas it's running nice. Even came with a 48 inch deck. Seat was replaced last year. I still need to clean it all up but I am so happy to hear it running so well. I'll post more pics as I do more to it.

6 pointsBut I did! I'm going to bring 7 Wheel Horses to the 25th Annual Wheel Horse Show along with some raffle prizes. Spent the good part of the day digging tractors out of the shed and garage. Also posted in this thread of a major work project that has been taken a lot of my time up in the past year, it is a high energy electrical bucket truck that has a price tag when new years ago of 1.3 million and a replacement cost of over 2 million. It has Marmon Harrington drive axles and when it came to me with a blown second drive axle differential i told them the drive line angles were incorrect and began working with 4 different engineers who told me i was correct. I have had to remove the front 4 planetary drives and second differential to get looked over, resealed and reinstalled. I'm gonna take a long vacation when it's done. Wild Bill in Richmond, VA.

6 pointsMike - good catch. That must have had the "Gangster Lean" with both bearings riding in the grooves. And NO... JB Weld ( three tubes!!!) is not a "proper" fix - I am surprised the spindle is not bent upward... We have TIG welded MINOR grooves and reshaped them with good success - Keep the clamp collar & washers - toss the spindles... Bearing failure too?? Could always wander thru the woods and grab a pair from Doc --- and leave a note !!

5 pointsNearly all rain here for several weeks now. We can't seem to buy a dry time more than half a day or the odd bit of sun here n there. Looks like that'll change tonight!!! Trina and I had a nice visit with @JCM Jim and his other half today. Trina dragged Patti to the local Mennonite store to do some ridiculously inexpensive shopping for great stuff. Jim and I basically set around shooting the .... Well we talked a lot. Throughout the day I worked on getting the new barn workshop cleaned up and beginning to organize the area. I got the 220V air compressor set up on 6" blocks so I can reach the air/fluid drain on the bottom of the tank. I very rarely leave the compressor without draining it. I also got the metal working table in place with the old Lincoln Tombstone welder plugged in beside it ready to go as needed. Same goes for the 110V HF flux core wire feed welder. The 2 small side doors have been sticking more and more so both Trina and I worked on getting some trimming done at the bottom. Both are better now.

5 pointsI load up on Wednesday afternoon and leave by 6 on Thursday. And it never fails one of my neighbors will ask "going to the show" I just want to say "just felt like putting those tractors on the trailer." Pull-start that looks a little light for you?

4 pointsTried out repaired 36” RD mower deck. This was on the C161 I bought, they couldn’t get it to cut, it kept shredding belts. Sold mower to me for £100.00. I spent an hour and a half today mowing on the lowest setting, no belt problems at all. Main drive belt is not even a reinforced belt, but is a ‘wrapped’ ‘A’ section, instead of the’SPB’ section they had used! After finishing mowing, the belts were only warm to the touch! Deck is so quiet now after following @peter lena’s lubrication advice,Thanks Pete👍 (Please excuse the ‘JD’ front wheels and the temporary ‘Raider10’ silencer, this cured the sticking exhaust valve, caused by the stainless silencer retaining too much heat. Runs fine now). Doug.

4 pointsI have noticed some like that. Specially if they bought them from Snap-On which charges an absolutely ridiculous amount for a skinny top. Kind of defeats the purpose of the top. It’s also the marks and the wear that gives it character. Can always be sanded and refinished also. Marks and wear are a normal thing , the idea is to work on it but not into it. It’s got a pretty tough finish. Ten coats of Marine Spar Varnish on top and edges, and three on the bottom. All coats dried for 48 hours each and rubbed between coats.

4 pointsI was gonna say bring it to the big show. Conversation piece. It is pretty impressive that someone could go that long on it.
-
4 pointsHoly moly, what a mess to find. Guess you’ll b show shoppin’ for a pair of spindles.

3 pointsShe’s a runner now, but runs crummy… Matching front wheels, 6” with the longer spindles
-
3 pointsLook at the improvements you’re making working on these old tractors! Two years ago, you wouldn’t have pulled a head without someone there walking you through it. Now, you’re an all around small engine mechanic!

3 pointsThat guy got every single cent outta that spindle. Then adds the spacer to move the "bearings", or what was left of them over a bit to start on a couple more grooves!
-
3 pointsMost folks I have worked with that have mobile workbenches or mobile toolboxes with wood tops added a sacrificial clear sheet of Lexan - oilproof and keeps the wood "damage-free"'

3 pointsIt gets better, there was some sorta spacer that clamped onto it. Got that off to reveal another custom groove !!
-
3 pointsTo me, fiberglass would not be a suitable material for that application due to the abrasive belt dragging on it. Unless there was a metal strip embedded in it for the belt to rub against...??

3 pointsAnd the flyaway start rope (Soooooo Pullstart!!) can double as an emergency pants belt!!

3 pointsHome made, tks We don't get enough snow to push. EB ended up with them and was asking how they mount. I am sure they will get a work out up there.

3 pointsMaybe not what I did To my Wheel Horse, but For it. I am mostly done clearing off the shelving in the barn lean to for in process storage and to organize parts when taking tractors apart. The shelf standards are angle iron with 24 inch square tubing formerly used to store vinyl siding . Lags hold them to the studs and they can carry the weight. There are four seat pans and four hoods and other parts on there just to get a feel for things. Plenty of room for storage tubs for the smaller stuff. Oh ,and look at the Electro hood. She's a patina oil candidate if ever I saw one with the decals in fine woodgrain condition.
