21 pointsIt was our annual show and pull weekend for the local club which is always a good time and the boys and I were able to get some corn in the ground too. As we were out putting seeds in the ground, I took the time to explain the real reason for the long weekend.

10 pointsSo sad, he was such a knowledgable and friendly man! I know he didn’t post here much, but was very active and spent plenty of time private messaging me whenever a I was in need of guidance. He and Scott were so kind and welcoming too, to pick up a large load of tractors and srtore them for me for no charge, just to help. We spent quite a fair bit of time at the Big Show the past few years chatting as well. I’ll miss you, friend.

7 pointsAnd, as I have said before - inflate a new tube to 5 PSI and let it sit for about three days, check it. If it stayed inflated, use it. If not, deflate it and box it up for a refund. I have had a few that deflated before the 3 days.....

6 pointsMoving right along today. Started out by applying 3M spray adhesive to the running boards and the rubber pads for them. Ran the plumbing for for the fuel system, made new throttle cables and continued to bolt pieces on. I had trouble remembering how the piece of angle iron was mounted below the drive belt. A big thanks to Jim for some picture assists. Turned out that I had the drive pulley pushed too far on to the crank shaft. In this next picture everything looked so purty that I had to take a picture before I covered it up. A few picture of how I ended the day. Down to wiring and bolt on the last few pieces.

5 pointsI got a call this morning from Phil's friend Scott. He told me he found Phil at his home on Saturday. Those who knew Phil knew that he was a Wheel Horse collector and attended the annual Collector's Club event. He was a terrific guy, full of knowledge and always ready to help anyone. Rest in Peace, Phil! You will always be remembered!

4 pointsHi all. I've had quite a few different brands of power tool over the years, from Makita through Bosch, to DeWalt. But I recently bought a Milwaukee impact driver and I'm sold on this brand. Not only are the power tools pretty damp good, the range of hand tools is huge and the quality is first rate. My tool bag is rapidly turning red, having bought a drill and a hand held bandsaw which is a marvelous tool, just like having a powered hacksaw in your mitts. What do you guys use over state side? 4 pointsCouple of older mowers that sat for years had badly varnished carburettors along with the usual crap. The Xylene did a great job on the old varnish, the next step in cleaning involved submersing the disassembled carburettor in boiling water, freezing the carburettor then back into the hot water, repeated this process three times. After the third hot water treatment no more dirt appeared on the bottom of the pot used. Carburettor reassembled and installed, engine runs perfect.

4 pointsFor several years now Trina and I along with her mom and our best friend have gone to a southern NH State Park that has a beautiful remote camping site. The site is about 6/10 of a mile from the parking area. We intend to keep going there as an annual event and we're looking for a way to make the transition from car full to site full a little easier. We've used a pull cart. We've created a pull cart from a canoe and a two wheeled hauler given to us by @JCM Both worked pretty well. This year we used the @JCM wheelset cart and combined it with a rooftop/trailer hitch we had on hand. Trina bought the front hitch part of a bike trailer and off we went with nuts bolts and screws in hand..... I towed several hundred pounds of camping gear over roots rocks etc for a total of 6+ miles. Overall. Excellent. We discovered after all the work was done that the forward hitch pull bar needs to be substantially stronger.

4 pointsPhoned a tire shop last week that is an hour's drive from my home town, counterman at the time told me they had the size I needed on stock, since I was expecting parts ordered from NAPA to be in store today, needed to make the trip. Parts were in at NAPA, went across the street to the tire shop only to find the tubes I expected to purchase had been sold, the whole inventory sold in less than a week. Off to the John Deere dealer, same story, finally went to a equipment rental and purchased the last two they had. The clerk told me that this year was a record for mower tube sales. Back at the truck mentioned this to Pat, I was curious and couldn't figure out why the run on tubes, she replied, must be that no one is buying new mowers. Exactly, she nailed it. I'm currently working on a pair of older mowers and each have tires that leak.

4 pointsbill, your story really hits home. our grandson enlisted in the USMC in 2008. while stationed in california he along with 2 other marines died in a car crash in 2012. his personal belongings were delivered back to our home. my wife hung up all his uniforms in his closet in his room. she keeps that room ready for inspection to this day!

3 pointsGreased and installed my recently purchased rear discharge mower to my 310-8. Wow, what an easy to install deck. Mowed a small patch of lawn that was two weeks tall. Even with old rusty blades it did a great job. Now to replace the double pulley, wheels and front roller. Sharpen the blades and weld the one crack in the deck. Best $75 I've spent in a very long time. Removed the deck to install the rear tiller. Tilled my 50' x 50' garden. Very impressed with how well the tiller did...and the ol' girl never missed a beat. Normally I use my Troybilt Horse tiller and my shoulders and back are killing me. Using the WH was almost luxurious. Overall it was a good day

3 pointsSeems like in early 1970's we could get regular for 19 cents a gallon. I don't remember what ethyl costs--I wasn't about to spend that kind of money! I also remember looking at tailpipes for whitish/gray lead deposits. I always took that to mean the engine was running as efficient as possible. Now I look for a tail pipe that is as clean on the inside as it is on the outside.

3 pointsAfternoon everyone! I was able to snag a 48" SD deck off of marketplace on Sunday (Seller may be a member here? I don't recall his name) for a good price. I've been mowing solely with my C-160 for around 3 years now simply because I prefer the hydraulic lift on it and the nelson muffler to the manual lift and pepper shaker muffler on the 120. I'd snagged a few parts off of the C120 for the C160 as needed, and figured now that i had a deck for both of them I should get it back going again. I had robbed the fuel tank, PTO, coil and ignition switch off of it. Purchased a new switch and coil for it, and installed the tank that @ebinmaine graciously sent me, well over a year ago now. New battery and an oil change and i was good to go! I intend to run the 48" deck on the C160 due to it being more powerful, so I swapped the deck off of it onto the C120. The outer bearing on the PTO had let go and I sourced a replacement 4 pack of bearings for $8.99 off of the jungle website. Its apparent that I need to find a bearing that is intended for a thrust load, as the one I pressed in barely lasted one mowing session. If anyone can point me in the right direction there, I'd appreciate it. I'd forgotten how well the 14hp Kohler that I built for it handled thick grass. Can't tell a difference between it and the C160 as far as power. I do dislike how the deck raise/lower mechanism "tweaks" the dash to one side depending on its position. I didn't see anything obviously loose. Is this normal or is there possibly a brace broken? Pictured here is the C160 and C120. I recently put a new set of Carlisle turf masters on the rear of the C160 and painted the wheels white. The hood was missing both the headlight lens and the headlight housing, so I installed an LED bar that came with L brackets that exactly matched the center holes where the original housing was riveted in. It could use some tidying up, but it is functional and didn't require any permanent modification. I need to put a correct set of front wheels on the C120, but the current ones hold air. New belts are on the way for the 48" SD deck. I didn't notice it when I purchased it, but it appears from the pictures that all 3 grease zerks are missing so I will have to pick up some. Don't mind the tall weeds surrounding my cars!

3 pointsYes the expansion and contractions then when the water begins to boil oxygen bubbles form on the hot surfaces as they release from the surface some junk is dislodged. This fact is what inspired me, Think of it as having picked all the rocks clean from your pasture or garden then with next years frost new rocks mysteriously appear.

3 pointsOutstanding paint and body work there. I have found that the TS 4l-820 is a bit too short for the clutch to wok, looks like that is what you are using. Mine has an 83" belt.

3 pointsWe opened the salt water pool yesterday. A good bit of vacuum work,and some time, and it’ll all balance out and look crystal clear. It took 6 bags of salt to get the level up to the green dot on the cell. Through the season, we may need 4 more bags, depending on usage, rain, etc. The salt never leaves the water, the water leaves the pool. Current water temp is 63 degrees F.

3 pointsI can see the logic in that but around here the cheap temporary machines are moving fine. I'd also theorize that tubes may be selling because they just don't last as long. Old stock North American made tubes would last decades unless severely damaged. The newer cheap thin disposable ones just don't have the usable lifespan.

3 pointsAfter several Weeks of Rain with just a Sunny day between, we have here the first 3 sunny Day‘s following. Nature grows like an explosion. Yesterday’s Mowing was a Challenge for my Horse, not because of it‘s Engine Power, more because of the Beltwear. It chews 3 Belts at a grassheight of 35cm even with opened Sideexits. So i decided to Rework me a own Highgrass Mower for my 656. Here is the first Testdrive. (Actually with only one Bearing in the jackshaft, the second is on the Way...)

3 pointsHad to take a break in my day to go see some poor chap get married. After paying my condolences to the new bride & groom crawled back in the garage to get some work done. A little further on the engine. Got the hydraulic pump put back together correctly. Mounted the tires on the rims.

2 pointsLast summer our son in law picked up a go kart that wasn't running right with ideas of fixing it up for the grandkids. The guy he got it from said it probably would be best to just get another engine for it rather than mess with the one that was on there. He bought a DuroMax engine, disassembled everything and that's as far as he got. It was never even mentioned to me until a couple of weeks ago when our grandson asked me if maybe I could get the go kart going. Well, you know the answer to that. The DuroMax was an electric start and a no go physically without cannibalizing it. I decided to get a Predator 212 and it is a great fit. It didn't take long before I realized why these engines are so popular. The drive was a basket case Comet Industries clutch and variable torque unit which I discovered is very popular in the go kart/mini bike world. I had never had my hands on one before so it was a learning process that I found interesting. Things are all back together now and I'm just waiting on a new drive belt which should get here today. OK, all that and I didn't get to the point. I'll be hauling the kart and the no longer returnable DuroMax back to their place and I'll have this Tecky engine sitting here. Something tells me I shouldn't just toss it out. Maybe a carb rebuild is all it needs. Maybe not. The shaft is fine for a Wheel Horse and there looks to be a 12v output even though it's a recoil start. I believe it was for the lights only. Here's the tag on it. Anybody interested in seeing if it can be saved?

2 pointsI have standardized on Dewalt battery rechargeable tools. A few expensive batteries fit everything. But I'll agree the Milwaukee tools look very sturdy. For hand tools, wrenches etc. I have older 1970's to 80's Craftsman tools. Unfortunately the Craftsman tool of today are junk. I need to buy a few replacement hand tools, but haven't settled on any of the current brands.

2 pointsGot all the old bearing out and clean the transmission cases and look at all the gears and clean them and some other parts too and the rims on Monday planned on working on the frame Wednesday night got to weld the plate were the transmission bolts too it has some cracks in it

2 pointsI got all of the fluids and filters changed. Removed the sickle bar mower, as I don't have any use for that. Mounted the tiller. Just drove it around to my back yard, but haven't done any work with it yet. The engine seems strong...no smoke, but it only has 826 hours on it so it should have quite a bit of life left. Thinking about how much use I'm going to get out of it makes me think I probably should consider selling it. This is the only GT-14 I have seen so I don't know how much it's worth out here in Oregon. Liking vintage equipment was my only real reason for buying it in the 1st place. I promised a photo or 2, so here they are. Thanks for the help in getting this little tractor going again.

2 pointsAdded a few more pieces over the last couple of days. Yesterday I installed the hydraulics and got them plumbed. Hitches installed on the rear end. Today I was able to show more progress. Front end completed, engine bolted down, clutch & brake system installed. I also cut the pads out for the foot boards.

2 pointsNo Wheel Horse stuff today. First thing today was to go have new tires put on the trailer that James and I will be towing to the Big Show next month. Next was to help install a new one piece trunk pan in my friend Lee's 1964 Ford Galaxie convertible. Our goal is to have it back on the road by September. We had to drill out all the spot welds to remove the tail pan to install the trunk pan in one piece. One extra body part to remove, but thats the right way to do it.
