18 pointsDon't remember last time I visited since I sold all my Wheel Horse tractors. Lots have happened since then. Moved near St. Louis where Wheel Horse isn't seen a lot. Have a nice spread with near 9 acres to mow with some pretty steep hills requiring 4x4. Anyway I picked up a Work Horse 1642 for my youngest son who bought his first house. Will be searching for a new engine but it is decent otherwise. Glad to be back

16 pointsBig trip under Norman’s belt this last weekend. Something like 1,840 miles we ran, to ND and home. I need to figure all these out, but I believe a 400 and some 551s. These are the pictures that got me interested. The Panzer is something else!

9 pointsScored a 604 today! Only bout an hour away too! Original owner went into nursing home so family was clearing out barn. Runs good but needs choke on to stay running- should be an easy fix. Will need belts. Mower deck functions, short frame plow included, tire chains, original manuals. They had 416-8 but still use it to mow- I tried to buy it. Also had a non running C125 black hood that they are willing to give away whole or parts. They gave me hood off it. My C105 has a dented hood so I'll use it. Few misc pull plows in their barn but I just don't have any use for them or the room. Not bad deal for $350????

9 pointsWell, my manifold is ugly, but it did the trick. First pic is "before" and second is after. Tucked in nicely, but not so close as to burn the hood paint. Added a diagonal brace to support the weight as well on the brake tab.

7 pointsI thought this was a T60 but I am thinking it’s a T70 based on the grille shell? I found some info here http://www.panzertractors.com/ModelIDHistory.html to tell me it’s a ‘60 or ‘61? As mentioned in this Suburbans thread we traveled to ND for this and a handful of others.

6 pointsGot the manifold made up tonight. Had to make a huge adapter to fit the muffler, but this manifold is for this engine. The diameter should be fine. I had to weld a recurve drop in the adapter to get the muffler in the right place, but it will pull the whole thing a little closer to the hood. Ugly, but it will work. Also made a brace to support the whole thing that uses the PTO brake bracket. I always remove them anyway.

5 pointsI just acquired a 1984 C 195 with 3 point hitch and pto. The Kohler engine is tired and leaks oil like an old Vw. Would I be a terrible person to upgrade the engine to a rebuilt 20hp Onan since I have one sitting on my bench? And as long as I'm in the neighborhood put in a swept front axle and gear reduction steering? After all it's still all Wheel Horse parts just from different years. It would be like the car from that Johnny Cash country song.

4 pointsThose were Tom and Jeremi’s and I was hauling them to Uncle Jim’s for exchange. I grabbed Sylvia’s scoot from WI and kept truckin’ with Mrs. P. To ND and back. We left at 4 pm on Sunday and got home at 6pm yesterday. I’d say it was a quick trip, but we kind of lally gagged on the way home yesterday!

3 pointsMade a low ball bid online never expected to win...but it went very late in the day (early evening I think) no other bids... Not really anything I needed.. but K341 spins over and has compression. Deck is scrap. May try my spot welder to put some fresh metal on the stern of the tub cart and use it with out worrying about dents scratches Model is 1-0380 -9 Serial (1974) engne spec number is 71128 which is listed for a 1975 model

3 pointsThere is no shortcut for changing those dual belts. At first you might think you can squeeeeezzzeee the belt out between the pulley and the deck shell. You can’t. Then you might think you can just loosen the cross-shaft bearing holder (two bolts from under the deck) on the right side to be able to get some play in the cross-shaft. Almost but not quite. You have to loosen BOTH cross-shaft bearing holders, rotate the left one 90º to get the shaft to move sideways and downward on that side (to disengage from the gear) while lifting the one on the right side. THEN you have just barely enough room to remove and reinstall the belts. Oh, and of course you have to have the gear covers off (preferably without losing or else planning to replace those impossibly small sheet metal screws) and handle those greasy gears to do this? (I use nitrile gloves and keep plenty of those rags nearby.) AND just when you are well into (or finished) with buttoning it back up you realize “s**t, I didn’t make sure to engage the face/bevel gears while the blades were 90º apart in their rotation." You might be tempted to try a gear puller to remove the face gear on one side. Don’t do this if you haven’t first removed the bevel gear and blade shaft on that side. Ultimately, I arrived at the conclusion that if I need to replace the belts, I will be doing a full teardown and servicing of the deck. Welcome to 60’s mowing decks!

For those of you who have smart phones and smart watches, my wife has recently gotten the “Simple” app. She logs her intake, it adjusts her water needs based on foods and drinks consumed, and monitors her current blood sugar levels to adjust consumption as needed too. not the best for road trips, but having no trailer with us the last 3 days of driving, we stopped whenever we needed. My last check, I was at 175 even from 202.4 and feeling amazing!

3 pointsYou guys have inspired me to try something new. After checking with my doctor, he has suggested that I try the 16:8 fasting regimen. Basically, I fast for 16 hours, then eat normally during the remaining 8 hours. My doc is a Hopkins trained guy, and he says to follow the Hopkins plan. So, I will fast 16 hours, 5:00 pm until 9:00 am. Then from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, I eat my regular diet. Other than 9:00 am breakfast (I usually eat at 6:30 am), there is not much different. I have been moving my evening meal forward due to some digestive issues, and it won't be too difficult to drop the snacks while watching TV at night. I only drink water during the day, and coffee twice in that same period. So with that in mind, starting tonight at 5:00 pm the adventure begins. Current weight 231.

3 pointsMy issue right now, is what repairs need to be done, and how to keep it looking like it does. I.E. the wheels that need repair or replacement, or if/when that Tecky gives up the ghost… Patina tractors with shiny wheels are always an option however.

3 pointsI did mine on the C81 - only had to lift about 3 inches to slip in the temporary support blocks - loosening the vee blocks made the lineup easier for the final assembly...

3 pointsI like them to look like the day they left the factory, or maybe a little nicer! Cecil Pond said to me once when he saw my C-121 automatic, “It didn’t look this nice when it left the factory!” That made me smile for about a week! I definitely do appreciate the customs also, some guys pull off some pretty cool things. Here’s a few pics, I have plenty of worker tractors too but I’ll save those pictures for another thread!

3 pointsOn one of my recent road trips, I got caught behind a semi going maybe 60 mph. My exit was coming up, so I just crawled along behind the semi. Once traffic in the fast lane cleared, the semi pulled out and passed the car ahead of him. That car was a Tesla running at 60 mph, probably trying to stretch its charge to the next charging station. We could do very well with an electric car for daily use. We drive probably in the range of 20 to 40 miles on an average way. Where things kind of fall apart is when we travel to our other properties - 500 to 700 miles away. We do this about every other month. With the cargo we carry from place to place and the desire to not stop overnight along the way, the current crop of electric vehicles won't really work for us. The other thing is the cost of the electric cars - they are targeted at the premium, luxury market. I'm not going to pay that for a vehicle that won't do everything I want to. GM just announced that they will be ending production of the Bolt - one of the more affordable electrics out there. The production capacity will be converted to making their new electric pick up truck - a high margin, high price vehicle. The electrics are a new product. New products in the automotive industry are generally introduced on the premium luxury models before being moved downscale to the mainstream models. unfortunately, I don't see the electric car technology moving downscale very quickly. I also have concerns about the lifecycle energy efficiency and environmental impact of the electric vehicle. Somewhere I recently read that a Tesla 3 that is using electricity generated by coal will take something like 75,000 miles of driving before the lack of greenhouse emissions by the car will overcome the greenhouse emissions caused by burning the coal to make electricity for charging the car and the manufacture of the car. If renewable electrical sources (wind, solar) were used to charge the car, the break even point is about 8,000 miles. Going full bore into converting our transportation fleet to 'clean' electric power without considering the manufacture of the cars, the increase in load to the power grid, and the disposal of the cars (batteries) at the end of the vehicle life, seems me to be an excellent way to create a mess as big or maybe even larger than continuing on with the internal combustion vehicles. We need to do something take care of the environment. But, we need to be intelligent about it and think about the big picture, not getting focused on a 'magic bullet'. Partial electrification of our transportation fleet is probably a good thing - use it where it makes sense. In the meantime, keep working on improving the efficiency and cleanliness of other power sources.

2 pointsYou guys are gonna love this one! So a guy stops in at plow day last year wantin to yak horses. Says he's got a couple. It's cool lots of horsemen around we yak So he stops in a couple of days ago and says he's got a GT 14 & asks me if I want it for our favorite 4 letter word... starts with a F. I says sure lemme come eyeball it. He's real local and just moved up here from FIB land. Now a GT14 ain't exactly on the bucket list but the price point was ther. I immediately jump on the horn with one of our resident GT14 experts @19richie66 to see what I should be looking for. I know nothing about one but the owner say it's a manual. Alrighty then no such thing says Richie. Maybe modded? Owner swears it's a GT14. So I go have a look see ... only way to see where the bear crapped in the buckwheat. I know what it is and it ain't a GT14! You guys take a crack at a ID... should be easy for some. I brought it to the ranch at @Achto's insistence. Wait til you hear why the tranny is out of it... the gut buster of all times.

2 pointsI got this from my friend’s Ed father on the last batch. It’s a Black and Decker and it is from the 70’s. It is surprisingly easy to use and it does a really good job. It’s fast and simple without too much room for user error.

Dan's idea was to get it running and driving then give it to Portage show auction for what charity Dan? Way beyond that I'm afraid buddy. We would go thru 10 cans of deep creep and still twist off every bolt.

2 points@rmaynard...I have been doing this for 5+ years. The first 4 days was hard. Now I can't imagine going back to just eating and grazing all day. It is a good feeling when you know you are in control of your body and not your food cravings controlling you, if that makes sense. Your body will train itself to use its own stored energy so well. My eating window is 12-8pm.

2 pointsIt's a t75 panzer. Looks nice, it's been repainted, I don't think the engine is original. It missing the engine plate. Just watch on those models with battery under the seat if "heavy" dudes are driving it......

2 pointsThe bolt is the pivot point of the triangle piece. When you pull back on the PTO lever it should cause hoop to move the clutch pulley towards the engine.

2 pointsA few more things that I was able to do over the last few weeks have been: Repairing cracks at the two holes at the rear of the hood stand where the fender bracket bolts to. Installing a rock shaft kit from Wheel Horse & More to operate my tiller on this tractor if needed. Sandblasting and painting the foot boards, seat/fuel tank supports, and the underneath of the rear fender pan. I also overhauled the entire fuel system with new components including rebuilding the carb.

He’s on a field trip with school til tomorrow so I’ve been in the garage the last 2 nights alone making sure things were squared away so once we have the final pieces ready he can go to town assembling it. I’m going to let him be the one to share pictures.

2 pointsThese mufflers I'm using on my Vanguard 14s are made by Nelson, but a larger diameter than what is usually on a Wheel Horse. I wanted to put a guard on this one, but the factory guards are a little too long. Plus I had to weld brackets on the muffler to hold the guard on. Thank goodness for wire welders! Still a challenge even on the lower settings, but it worked. So I found some 16ga perforated stainless online. Expensive, but not as much as the chrome OEM version, and this one will never rust. Not perfect, but some functional bling for a worker. Now I have to finish the new manifold. That'll bring the muffler in another 1.5 inches toward the hood.
