7 pointsTook advantage of the nice weather pa weather and plowed up a new spot for the boys and I to put a patch of corn in. The Raider 10 was out to the test on the hard ground but she did great!

6 pointsPut some new shoes on the 520H since the old turfs wouldn't hold air for longer then 20 minutes. These are a 6ply BKT tire and they just slip right on!

5 pointsI got this from my friend’s Ed father on the last batch. It’s a Black and Decker and it is from the 70’s. It is surprisingly easy to use and it does a really good job. It’s fast and simple without too much room for user error.

5 pointsHope you all are doing great! Geez, between breaking ground on a new house and trying to keep my shop going in this 'different' world we live in, things are just a little hectic. While the Horse 'collecting' addiction has taken a bit of a back seat, the off roading continues when I can. (dont worry, ol Hoss and 'lawn duty' 1277 continue to work like rented mules and are running great!) We took a ride at Good Evening Ranch and offroad park last month- 28 tractors altogether! GER is a TOUGH place, with lots of huge rocks and super rugged trails. 5 of us finally found the weak link/breaking point of our beloved Horses- front spindles. Thank God for carrying spares, as I lost both by the end of the weekend. Time for 1" custom 'loader' style spindle upgrades, as even bracing does not help on trails like this. As for the rest of the machine- just plain bomb proof- zero issues, and is probably one of the least 'modified for off roading' machines out there- again- a testament to the Pond brothers!! So, what have you all been up to??? PS- Red Square membership renewed!!

5 pointsLast till with the Super C. Going to a new home tomorrow. Just a tad big for my garden. Was supposed to be for deer food plot but since we plow that field every year. I just don't use it enough to justify having it & KT19 is gonna need a repo.

5 pointsThese mufflers I'm using on my Vanguard 14s are made by Nelson, but a larger diameter than what is usually on a Wheel Horse. I wanted to put a guard on this one, but the factory guards are a little too long. Plus I had to weld brackets on the muffler to hold the guard on. Thank goodness for wire welders! Still a challenge even on the lower settings, but it worked. So I found some 16ga perforated stainless online. Expensive, but not as much as the chrome OEM version, and this one will never rust. Not perfect, but some functional bling for a worker. Now I have to finish the new manifold. That'll bring the muffler in another 1.5 inches toward the hood.

4 pointsOn one of my recent road trips, I got caught behind a semi going maybe 60 mph. My exit was coming up, so I just crawled along behind the semi. Once traffic in the fast lane cleared, the semi pulled out and passed the car ahead of him. That car was a Tesla running at 60 mph, probably trying to stretch its charge to the next charging station. We could do very well with an electric car for daily use. We drive probably in the range of 20 to 40 miles on an average way. Where things kind of fall apart is when we travel to our other properties - 500 to 700 miles away. We do this about every other month. With the cargo we carry from place to place and the desire to not stop overnight along the way, the current crop of electric vehicles won't really work for us. The other thing is the cost of the electric cars - they are targeted at the premium, luxury market. I'm not going to pay that for a vehicle that won't do everything I want to. GM just announced that they will be ending production of the Bolt - one of the more affordable electrics out there. The production capacity will be converted to making their new electric pick up truck - a high margin, high price vehicle. The electrics are a new product. New products in the automotive industry are generally introduced on the premium luxury models before being moved downscale to the mainstream models. unfortunately, I don't see the electric car technology moving downscale very quickly. I also have concerns about the lifecycle energy efficiency and environmental impact of the electric vehicle. Somewhere I recently read that a Tesla 3 that is using electricity generated by coal will take something like 75,000 miles of driving before the lack of greenhouse emissions by the car will overcome the greenhouse emissions caused by burning the coal to make electricity for charging the car and the manufacture of the car. If renewable electrical sources (wind, solar) were used to charge the car, the break even point is about 8,000 miles. Going full bore into converting our transportation fleet to 'clean' electric power without considering the manufacture of the cars, the increase in load to the power grid, and the disposal of the cars (batteries) at the end of the vehicle life, seems me to be an excellent way to create a mess as big or maybe even larger than continuing on with the internal combustion vehicles. We need to do something take care of the environment. But, we need to be intelligent about it and think about the big picture, not getting focused on a 'magic bullet'. Partial electrification of our transportation fleet is probably a good thing - use it where it makes sense. In the meantime, keep working on improving the efficiency and cleanliness of other power sources.

4 pointsEasy peasy Cas you'll have no problem. Motor does not have to come off the blocks or plate Take the deck/drive belts off. Loosen all the mounting bolts Start at one corner and with a stout flat or crowbar and carefully lift the motor up just enough to wiggle the old ones and the new ones in. If they are Kerber mounts they are precision so alignment won't be a problem. I think I did the two front ones first then the back. It may help to leave some mounting bolts a couple threads in so the shaker plate doesn't slide around on the v blocks. These thing are better than sliced bread.

4 pointsNot going to be cheap in anyway you go. Might consider an ad in the wanted for a good transmission. Pretty sure that is a 1 inch axle unit you have....good time to upgrade to a 1 1/8" 8 pinion unit. Especially if using ground engaging stuff.

3 pointsBig trip under Norman’s belt this last weekend. Something like 1,840 miles we ran, to ND and home. I need to figure all these out, but I believe a 400 and some 551s. These are the pictures that got me interested. The Panzer is something else!

3 pointsCan’t wait for you all to see it when it’s done. He has put tons of time into cleaning parts. Almost to the reassembly part of the project. He’s on a field trip with school til tomorrow so I’ve been in the garage the last 2 nights alone making sure things were squared away so once we have the final pieces ready he can go to town assembling it. I’m going to let him be the one to share pictures.

3 pointsYes, disconnect the lift bar then just flip up those levers that hold the round bar in place that will allow you to drop the plow and push the tractor back enough to get a drain pan under it. A small mirror will also help find the drain plug.

3 pointsIMHO, probably not. UNLESS you have the original engine and any accessories, like a period correct good mower deck, 42 inch plow, etc to go with it. It NEEDS the belt guard, and the 4 speed will need to come apart - 3rd gear, case gasket, 4 seals, maybe a new shift boot, 2 qts of gear oil. That alone ties up about $175. To me - cut your expected price in half..... sorry.

3 points@Target try this first , have any alligator clip test wires ? go from the battery , ground bolt start point , to the rectifier , top inside edge of air filter area , would also slightly move the oblong wire 3 wire connection going to that , then clip the other end of alligator clip to the top rectifier bolt mounting point .very often corrosion , debris , is poor to engine grounding areas, also check fuses for corrosion . basic stuff . just a quick check , had that a number of times on related tractors , easy to make a strong point , pete

3 pointsNow that grant I gave you was for dinner for my girls... not for you guys to play married!
-
3 pointsThat is the cam lever that engages the PTO bell. The bolt and nut are the pivot that attaches the lever to the engine.

3 pointsOut of the many tractors that I have, non of them have had bushings on the front wheels. 1 3/8" o.d. x 3/4" i.d. flanged bearings on every thing with the exception of my 953, D160, & 520. These tractors require different bearings. https://www.amazon.com/XiKe-Bearings-Applicable-Wheelbarrows-Replacement/dp/B078JY8452/ref=asc_df_B078JY8452/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=245370783073&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9512728432615264781&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019438&hvtargid=pla-435575115573&psc=1

2 pointsScored a 604 today! Only bout an hour away too! Original owner went into nursing home so family was clearing out barn. Runs good but needs choke on to stay running- should be an easy fix. Will need belts. Mower deck functions, short frame plow included, tire chains, original manuals. They had 416-8 but still use it to mow- I tried to buy it. Also had a non running C125 black hood that they are willing to give away whole or parts. They gave me hood off it. My C105 has a dented hood so I'll use it. Few misc pull plows in their barn but I just don't have any use for them or the room. Not bad deal for $350????
-
2 pointsAbsolutely your choice I think by the time I got to the hood I was getting tired of the same color
-
2 pointsThanks! I was looking at the carlisles but I got these from my local tire shop for $80 a piece out the door! They're definitely way nicer then the deestones on my 416H and actually fit like they should lol
-
2 pointsInstalled the new steering wheel center cap that I got from Wheel Horse Parts and more. Hood and fender are at my painter's place. This is the paint I gave him to use.
-
2 pointsCool, will take a look. That old style Flexogen hose is pricey and I don't want to purchase it again.

2 pointsAgreeing with @peter lena and @gwest_ca Far more likely that there is a weak connection somewhere in the charging circuit than something failing. Only after eliminating that possibility should more involved testing ensue. 😁

2 points@hotajax have a TRUE VALUE OR ACE HARDWARE near you , ? , hose area , there is a male / male , to female hose coupling , that has a screw down cover cap , thats simple / easy to install, have mine on years now , no problems at all , worth a look , pete
-
2 pointsI can't believe that I forgot to pile in the Studebaker Station wagon and head on down to Muldoon's Hardware Store and buy a new hose. How could I possibly forget that option?
-
2 pointsOr like Squonky says and get a set of Linc's finger trap hubs... which is the cats meow, but not gonna do a thing for shot bearings. Or hardened needles grinding in hardened axles.
-
2 pointsIf the keyways in the axles are good I can fix the hubs. Looks like you been abusing it for too long tho... shame on you. You more than likely have bad bearings leading to leaky seals leading to un brown welded hubs. Split the tranny and do it right gets my vote.

2 points@Pullstart you da man! Gotta say I know now why all those chicks dig you (the ones in the coop, not the house)...

2 pointsWell. So here's the thing. 😁 IMHO the Wheelhorse tractor is a Pinnacle machine. Absolute Apex. But.... It's too much red for me. My Honey/BBT/The Paint Department/Trina and I have done 4 full frame off restorations now. None are stock colors. Two are a slightly brighter red with the standard off-white as a trim and engine color. One is my Cinnamon Horse. The last is her Military Tribute Tractor, Millie. Pics of mine: This a before n after of her first restoration. 657 named Pony. Here's the Military Tribute as it was built 2 years ago. We're just finishing up it's 2nd full restoration this weekend. Engine, transmission and several other things being swapped out or refreshed.
