4 pointsHi All, My Fiance and I just bought our forever home so i decided to add another Wheel Horse to the Stable. we've got 4.5 acres and probably 3 of it is grass so i decided to add a backup to my C-175. i picked up a 312-8 today in prey good shape with a 42 in rear discharge deck and mowed with it when i got home. it works well, its just noticeable slower than my c175 auto which has a briggs 18hp opposed twin swapped into it. Anyways I wanted a backup to run my carious attachments. now have a c175 auto, 312-8, 48 inch deck, 42 inch rear discharge deck, 42 inch tall chute snow blower and a 48 inch plow, wheel weights and chains. I love my wheel horses. This is my first manual, the two ive had prior have been hydros. Now i need to find all the manuals here and figure out some of the stuff...like what is the test switch/lights on the dash? and why did the previous owner wire in a seperate coil kill switch in addition to the key? lol . Another thing is the clutch releases very slowwwly, I'd like to get that figured out. its not the pedal or linkage, its the actual clutch that is slow to engage. https://imgur.com/a/EKSDWdj can an admin move this? 4 pointsNEW TOY ! Recent purchase of a very original and early 58RJ. Its gonna stay in its work clothes......probably wont even get washed. It is wearing its original tires the rears are in good shape, the front has one good and one shot. Would like to find a decent used BF Goodrich silvertown tire, The one i need is a EXPRESS, (writen over the tire size) Runs great just waiting on a new engine pulley and belt .

4 pointsPut the 42in RD deck back on the 310-8 today greased up and sharpened the blades. All ready for mowing season!!

4 pointsSome before and after pics from a 1977 C-120 8 speed from the original owner delivering it with the original paint. Used simple green cleaner, wiped it down with clean hot water with a grout sponge, let it dry. then did a light scrub with scotch bright pad. Wiped off dust and used 2 or 3 coats of WD-40 on a clean cotton rag. Some guys don't like the WD because later on if they decide to repaint they say it is a pain to get it all off. I prefer original paint and this C Series was a prime candidate for leaving it original. Apply additional WD when ever you feel the need to feed the paint, it works. JMO Peter Lena also has some great ideas on the topic too. Good luck

3 pointsKev., I had one here out in the woods that croaked. Once they get some size they can be useful. I have been dealing with a 60 footer that yielded 12 and 8 foot logs. I'm going to to post some pictures of the 12 horse WH easily getting them to the mill. Stand by.

3 pointsFinally got this c-160 hydro going this weekend. It's been sitting since the late 90's if the battery date is a correct indicator. Needed a new transmission, but the engine is good and strong. Needed a good carb cleaning too! Anyway, I don't want to restore this right away, but I may in the future. What is a good patina preserver that won't ruin my chances of a future restoration? I've been looking at shine juice from vice grip garage, but I wanted to see what you all were using.

3 pointsIn their later years Wheel Horse tinkered with various methods of the clutch engagement. I don't know which you have because I don't know the year. one method used a stopper which caught the clutch arm just before engagement to slow it down. Another was a hydraulic damper in conjunction with the spring. Yet another was a strut with no spring. None of them worked very well in my opinion. I only had to deal with one of them on my 2005. The solution is very simple. Remove all that excess crap and use only the 108035 spring. Make sure it's in good shape. They used only the spring for decades and it worked great. It still does. Wheelie issues? Nope, not unless there's some other issue.

2 pointsAs Don mentioned - the 701/702 one piece tank has solid tapped holes for the hood thumbscrews, not the breakout prone thin section for the speed nut. These bolt right in.

2 pointsYou are correct, doesn't matter. Check the setting of your ignition points. With the ignition turned OFF and the spark plug out begin by turning the engine over by hand ( latch the PTO) turn the the PTO counter clockwise while watching the ignition points. When they open continue turning until the points reach maximum opening. The points should now be open to .020". Now repeat turning the PTO two full revolutions to double check the setting. If they are not at .020" reset them. The moment opening begins will be setting you ignition timing. The "Static Timing" method can not be used on this engine because it has a spark advance camshaft rather than a compression release cam. If you have a timing light you can check the timing while the engine is running through the sight-hole in the back of the bearing plate.

Other than a breakfast sandwich and the usual sausage/peppers/onions at lunch the only thing I bought was another pair of IH/Cub cast wheel weights. What I DID NOT buy today was a coffee as Eric @ebinmaine had a fresh vat of his cowboy coffee..good stuff!!
