Where did I go wrong?

Made a low ball bid online never expected to win...but it went very late in the day (early evening I think) no other bids... Not really anything I needed.. but K341 spins over and has compression. Deck is scrap. May try my spot welder to put some fresh metal on the stern of the tub cart and use it with out worrying about dents scratches Model is 1-0380 -9 Serial (1974) engne spec number is 71128 which is listed for a 1975 model

Hi all, Thanks to all of my Red Square friends who have expressed their condolences on my fathers passing. I have been doing extensive cleaning & some repairs to dad's 310-8, and the hours spent have been very therapeutic. So far, I have installed a pair of almost new 22x9.00x12 Titan Multi Tracs on the rear and have replaced the very worn out brake drum and it's friction band. And a new shifter boot. Installed a new drive belt and replaced the oils in the transmission and engine.

Where did you get your plans? Mad Magazine, Alfred e. Neumann ?

Today I put my new Wheel Horse belt on my commando 8 “Archie”. I tried to roll my grandparents front yard and it slipped on tiny hills.Friday I also dragged my baseball teams home field with Archie and I’m gonna do it again tomorrow before our first game of the season.

A GREAT BIG THANKS to @WHX?? for stopping over to help me wet sand this morning. With his help I was able to get some parts sprayed and still have some time left to do some other things today. Got a quite a few parts sprayed but still have a bunch left to spray yet. Didn't happen with out pics.

My 416-H with Eaton 1100 has never burped. However, unlike @Ed Kennell mine moves immediately in all kinds of weather, unlike me.

When I began working for Allis Chalmers in 1964, the policy was to hire an apprentice for every 5 employees. These were 5-7 year apprenticeship programs to become journey machinists, electricians, welders, assemblers, and boilermakers. Most were recruits from high school. The program involved hands on learning of the skills by working as helpers along side the respective mentors and classroom training in drafting and blueprint reading. I was involved in teaching many of these blueprint courses. Sad to say, the program was ended to save $$$. And Allis Chalmers went bankrupt in 1987. I am also afraid it may be too late to ever rebuild our manufacturing capability in the USA.

My wife and I have always been involved with youth work - church youth group counselors, scouting programs, my wife was a children's librarian, we have run kids programs at the local train depot museum, and for the last number of years, my involvement with the F.I.R.S.T. robotics program. In the back of my mind, I think this helps keep us 'young'. I am worried about the future of skilled trades in this country. When I was working as an engineer in the automotive components business, we always had trouble finding qualified machinists, die makers, electricians, pipe fitters, etc. Seems not many youngsters are very interested in entering that field. The contractors we used also had trouble finding and retaining skilled trade workers. If my volunteering for youth organizations inspires a few kids to enter the skilled trades or an engineering field, that is the type of legacy I want to leave behind.

Funny you should say that Richard... he had it hanging upside down and I said we need to get this beast higher up so you can see what you're spraying. That's the side that shows. I need a bigger beer belly to rest it on while he hangs!

The tires on that tub cart are factory originals. If they are any good and you find the right buyer you could make your money back.

Sounds like a bad key switch if the wiring hasn't been altered.

A misfire can come from more places than just an ignition system. Bad injector or a vacuum leak at one cylinder. Back in the day, Oldsombile V-8's were known for a ruptured vacuum hose that supplied vacuum to the cruise control. The port was on 1 intake runner so that cylinder was too lean and it would skip at idle. Driving down the road you never felt it except the cruise didn't work.

Looks good to me, Ed, nice square corners, clean welds, all polished and shiny, what's the problem? I wonder what would happen if you input that as a drawing into a 3-D printer.

tractor and double spiker tow , 200 / 100 lbs added to each unit , insures penetration , soil separation . lubricants regularly used on tractor and spikers . front electric fuel pump , fuel check valve , pto lever heim end joint , spring to control pto slide pin , buzzing / noise, battery tender plug in, spring assist to choke and throttle cables . lubricants , lucas xtra hd grease, sta-bil fuel additive , synthetic super lube , lucas 80-90- high performance gear oil , climbing oil additives . rislone zinc additive , for oil . have tractor over 40 years , bought it new in 82 , still my favorite horse . 3 of them very similar to same set up , no issues , lots of mods , pete

Put the spring on the other side under the nut and washer.

Hope that is the case here. Trannies I can fix and have spares...

Sounds like the nut came off a differential bolt and it is wedged in the transaxle. Had that happen a few years back, drove onto the trailer fine and when I got back home it wouldn't budge. Had to use the frontend loader and some chains to get it on the ground. Seems the bolt would hang up going backward but something guided it away from what it was hitting backing up.

Interesting finding. You can roll her backwards as far as you want..but not an inch forward...if you jack it up wheels spin freely in opposite directions. Hope she was parked because of tranny issue and the engine may be in usable shape..

Nice grab for sure! Wheel weights and chains too! I can’t come by those in my parts. Keep us updated on bringing her back to life!

Double check the knobs to see if there is a tiny little pin holding it in place. Once that's out maybe a hair dryer or low set heat gun to warm the knob. Some of my C series have the pin. Others don't.

I had replaced all the plugs the last time I was in there, several years ago. Guess I should check those again too, and for the cost, it makes sense to just throw new ones in there while it's open.

What did he do? Cover your beer so no dust would get in it?

It will spin up a 42” deck I’m sure, but if the grass is long or wet or thick or ya got a large pile of doggie poo in your mowing path it’s going to struggle. Personally I would never do it, you’re just taxing the motor and prematurely wearing it out. The 36RD is the way to go!

Was supposed to finish the generator yesterday but started on fertilizing and, among lots of other things, ended with mowing the back lawn. Chose the C-125 42SD over the 516 48SD just so I could hear that nicely bored 301 tear into it. That engine makes wonderful music. I'll get to that gen wiring today . . .

Kevin brings up an excellent point - you were 98% of the way there to pull the plugs..... if they had a lot of miles on them, time to give them the quick toss.... Oh, how it burns my butt to go have to revisit an issue when I was that close to fixing it the first time ........

when you had it apart this time did you check your plugs? One or more could be cracked as well. They misfire at idle, but seem to bump right along at higher rrrrrs.

Did you reinstall AND hook up the Mass Airflow Sensor......???

Added the new adapter for the bed crane. Drilled the stupid holes 3/8 instead of 1/2, but I'll open them up tomorrow when the paint is dry. Mounted the crane just to see how it'll fit. No more picking heavy crap up and putting in the trailer! And, it is easily removed with a single hitch pin.

The dipstick handle is the vent. Make sure it is not plugged. Clearing the dipstick vents stopped all my oil burp issues.

Nice looking job, once again you and BBT have made quick work of this and made it look great. Once the boards have dried you might want to run a self drilling metal screw through the boards at each crossmember. If you don't the boards will have a tendency to rattle as you go down the road.

Ok so life and fixing other tractors got in the way of project MaTeR BUT today was a rainy day and we @TonyToro Jr. said let’s work on MaTeR! So we messed with it some and found a few issues with the carburetor but a big issue was the coil. Looks like the mice liked the taste of coil wire. We ran up to a friends small engine repair shop and grabbed a good used coil. MaTeR lives! I drove it for about 30 minutes today. I was really trying to warm it up to change all the fluids but my helper ran off riding dirt bikes and then that turned into a recovery issue but that’s another story.😂 I’ll get the fluids changed tomorrow and then weld up the front rack. I’m still figuring out what the rear boom should look like. Any suggestions are appreciated. IMG_3596.MOV

Having nice machines is of course, nice. You have a good looking herd there. Working (and enjoying) your tractors the way they were intended? PRICELESS! I'm not against show tractors. I just enjoy playing too much!
