Finally got this C-81 going, it had some issues. It had some electrical problems that drove me crazy but I figured the out with the help of the wiring diagram. Did a diesel fuel transmission flush three times and now she’s running nice clean gear oil. Then a complete service and it runs and drives great after sitting for over five years. A very nice gentleman gave me this tractor a few months ago as some of you may remember.

Ugh, Getting close to a year since playing with this. Seeing some of the other guys doing stuff has motivated me to get some time in on it. It's taken a pretty big turn from the original plan as it seems everything I do does that. Anyway, here's an update for the change. Going Can-Am style bike Rear adjustable suspension swing arm is 2 Suburban lift handles. (They were twisted and damaged) The front is from the beginning. Again, trying to get as many wheel Horse parts on there as possible.

Got the tin off my next project. The build is a secret for now. All I can say is it involves an 854. Managed to get some sanding done. Next is hammering out the few dents. I’m still not sure how I’m gonna paint it. I’m thinking powder everything but the motor and trans and spray those.

I took a window out of a garage last week Thursday and put in a French door. I made it waterproof and called it a day. Today, I re-wired the outlet, insulated, re-sheeted the interior and finished the siding outside. I am glad there was enough material to patch in the wall and siding!

Another reason to let the tire store deal with it. If it blows when they install it it's their problem. Call me when it's done.

Feel free to use any type light socket you choose but if a wire is soldered to the light socket and the light socket is grounded to the dash and you apply 12 volts to the other end of the wire it is going to be a short circuit and will fry the wire. Keith Jones sent me some pictures of the progress he is making on my RJ transmission. His work is outstanding! His machinist’s buddy recommended new axles be made to smoot out the operation. As Keith says: “Your transmission is all cleaned up inside and out. Installed all new bearings in the side plates and seals. Took apart differential and installed new axles and brass bushings. Cleaned up the differential gears and pins. Reinstalled the gears. It is super smooth now, before we took it apart it had some binding inside, now it’s great!” And I am very pleased for all the assistance and expertise Keith Jones has with these early Wheel Horses! I am sure I will have this RJ tractor at the Wheel Horse Collectors Club Show in June 22,23 and 24th!

I got the old 753 home today and tomorrow it will meat the another wheel horses and then start working on give it a little love in care it was nices meeting y'all thanks again for the 753 i will enjoy it

Made some more progress on the IH 656 engine today. Crank, pistons, rods, head & oil pump installed. Rocker arms are adjusted, almost ready to close this engine up.

Jim & I were on a road trip up to Green Bay once. On the way up we saw a truck with big off set rims sitting along side the road with a wheel missing. On the way home we saw different truck with big offsets sitting along side the road with a missing wheel. Heard of it happening to a few others with the big offsets. I notice the truck in this video had big offsets. Could be just me but, there seems to be a pattern here.

Hello there Horse fans! Been a long time since I posted/visited. Between new work opportunity and hauling out scrap iron, it's been hectic. Winter wasn't hardly what I consider winter and was able to get a lot accomplished thankfully! And as a gift for myself, I got my Tonka toy running today and am impressed with it so far. Rebuilt motor, new final drives, rebuilt Hydraulic pumps, steering cylinders, lift cylinders, transmission, and ride control. Bought for parts but decided to save it. Couldn't resist finishing up today and find out if I knew what I was thinking... So far, no leaks! Happy birthday to me! FYI, I'm not in trouble as long as I am showered and sitting at the table for dinner...

Trina got herself a 2012 Honda Pilot. Huge volumes of space for camping gear and it can tow over 4K. We're looking forward to putting it to great use this year!! She's decided that the Pilot shall have the Wheelhorse keychain because it'll be the official Wheelhorse goes to shows puller.

I pulled my HY pump apart so that I knew for sure what I need for parts. After I took the cover off all I could think was "What in the wide wide world of sports is a going on here?!?!?" Given the fact that this spring does not look in any way shape or form correct. I'm going to guess that this was an attempt to replace the stand up spring that should be in here. I think that I am going to order a stand up style spring to put it back how it should be. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

And that is why I inflate the tube to 6 psi, right out of the box. Let it sit for a few days - see if it holds air....... if good, deflate & install. Use LOTS of talcum powder in the tire & on the tube - lets it wiggle into position as you slowly inflate it.....rather than pinch and fail. Six inch rim - a true PITA to dismount and mount....12 inchers are a lot easier.

Left front tire will not hold air overnight. Needs some bead sealer I believe. This girl was garaged in a building with some humidity... nothing wd40 won't cure.

I agree. I believe that wire is soldered to an insulated portion of the lamp. If you had that e bay lamp in your hand and checked it with a meter you would find the same. I think whatever insulates the actual lamp socket to the fixture broke down and that's why your wire burned up. Look at that diagram. If the wire from the ign was grounded at the light, it would burn up every time when the key was turned on.

After three days of rain, I saw an opportunity to get some seat time and engine heating hours on the 520H before putting it away till next winter. The poor thing never got used this winter. Pulling the roller for 2.5 hours warmed up and hopefully evaporated any moisture in the Onan. Then I got my primary mower, the 417A w/48"SD and my show ride the Honda PUP, out of winter storage to make room for the 520H.

So last fall I bought a NOS A-60 Electric from a gentleman in Minnesota. But... I'm 11 hours away in Michigan... Then it dawned on me... I know several folks who think 11 hours one way is "before lunch" on a Wheel Horse wrangler trip... So, I message a few and before long, thanks to the generosity and ingenuity of @Pullstart, @WHX??, and @Achto the little gal started her way to Michigan yesterday when achto and whx?? added a stop and picked her up on a previously planned all day run to Iowa, Minnesota and back to Wisconsin... But the tale doesn't end there... pullstart will be bringing her to mid-Michigan in a few weeks on his way back from another multi-state run...!!! I will then pick it up from pullstart, hopefully in plenty of time for the Memorial Day parade!!! Whew...! I can't thank them enough for the logistical support and help. (Well, yes I can. Wheel Horse Bourbon is in their futures)!!! Just another example of the great people on this site!!! Note: If you see a "for sale" add for a NOS A-60 in Wisconsin, please inform the authorities... This is the last known picture of it, taken yesterday, with what appears to be a Wisconsin native at the wheel...

I know many of you like to do your own tires, but for 20 or 30 dollars each I had new tires mounted on my rims by a tire company nearby. Price included the tires. Easy as pie and they stay inflated.

The SMART way to paint wheels! I don't care who you are, or what high-speed equipment you have access to. NOBODY can mount tires without scratching rims. Powder coated is almost as bad. I prime the insides with rust inhibitor, mount the tires, and inflate after painting. No other way to do it!

All of the five 'D's I've had/have (78 latest model) has the large batt tray. I found early on that one of wally worlds lawn/garden battery - 350CCA? hold up very well. I finally replaced one that was five yrs old last fall. And, since we never get a batt hold down anyway, I just make up one to hold the smaller size. At 30-35$ theyre hard to beat (course with the latest price raising craziness.....???)

Looks to me that one wire is insulated from the holder and makes contact in the middle with the tip of the bulb base - the other is soldered to the bulb base, not the holder.... time for a continuity check - i agree with @953 nut

The light socket for a S/G indication light has two wires connected to the lamp inside but neither of rhen are grounde. There shouldn't have been a wire soldered to the socket. This is a correct replacement socket for this application. That goes well into the 70s. My 1975 C160 Automatic has the large battery tray. I've used the wooden block method, also a piece of felt. The C160 tractors I have now get the larger battery. Original group may have been a ((22NF??)). A group 51 or 51R works fine. Depends on your own cable configuration. I build my battery cables to be long enough to reach either way.

It's been a debacle of a weekend, but the 310-8 is now a 314-8. Might be time to change out the light duty 8-speed for an 8-pinion... As I said before, I have three of these engines. One of them I'd never heard run or seen inside it, but it was the newest of the three. Since I "knew" none had more than 150 hours, I installed the one that seemed newest. Big mistake! Some dummy set the govenor backwards when I installed it, which would have been surprising enough. But no, it also has a stuck valve. It sounded like a runaway diesel when I cranked it, and I shut it down in less than a few seconds. So that engine came back off and went back on the shelf. I'll dig into it later, as I have plenty of spare parts. It'll get fixed soon. So I changed the engine AGAIN. This time she purrs like a kitten. The mufflers I picked up years ago are kinda chubby, but they have a nice gurgly tone and are pretty quiet. I had forgotten just how smooth these Vanguards can be. So it was nearly dark when I took it for a spin. But my LEDs had no trouble lighting up my path. Even with the lights burning, the charging system pushes 16vdc. Then I used plastic spiral wrap to tidy up the wiring and put her to bed. Now I gotta swap the spindles on the deck and she's ready to work!

Before I go on to chew Tom's rear the whole purpose of this wrangle was to swap Dan's 753 with @Chrishars 633. Pretty much an even trade. Had to swap some tires tho. We met up in Oseola IA in a wally world parking lot. Kinda like how I met @Pullstart... this time I was armed tho... Chris is an outstanding horseman and now has the quadfecta ... 701, 702, 753 & 854... not too shabby for a collector in TX.

I was gonna do a separate thread on this but I have no qualms about hijacking Sylvia's. He'll get over it cause I got his tractor... First off Jim @oliver2-44 I told you I didn't want any money for those parts so now you p'ed me off! It was just all crap to us that we had laying around and mighta went to scrap and we was making the trip anyway. Dan and I did have road lunches on the 40 @Chrishar gave us but the $$ in the goodie bags was totally unacceptable. The goody bags were more than enough and by the way that sausage is is absolutely awesome! I just love it but Dan might have a problem with it 'cause of his partials but that's OK I'm there for him.

The only other things is the seat has an issue just from years sitting around. The plastic got robbed from the ignition switch connector but Dan says you can get just that piece yet & nice wiring diagram on it to sort it out. Neither issue a deal breaker in my book. I didn't look to see if there was acid in the batteries ... didn't want to break factory seals that's Sylvia's job should he wish. Not likely since seals were not broken. It does need a good bath & rub down tho. One thing I will warn you about Sylvia it stays here too long it might grow roots...just sayin... other horses are nuzzling it...
