Trina got herself a 2012 Honda Pilot. Huge volumes of space for camping gear and it can tow over 4K. We're looking forward to putting it to great use this year!! She's decided that the Pilot shall have the Wheelhorse keychain because it'll be the official Wheelhorse goes to shows puller.

Rounded this up at a sale this morning about two minutes from my house. I don't think I did bad for $90! I think I'd like to put this on my 857.

The early (under 16 yo) trout season opened at 8AM this morning. I was hoping to get some good pics, but a steady down pour kept most of the Kids or parents at home. I did find this proud little angler that was happy to show me her fish. I told her I remember that fish, I named him Flipper when I put him last week. This smile makes all the stocking worthwhile.

Now that I no longer do any work outside of house , little by little I am emptying my van of tools and work related stuff. Van is equipped with anything and everything I could possibly need on a job site. One of items in it, is a clever old tool box given to me by my good friend Ed Deveau, which belonged to his father a master shipwrights. He used this box in the 40’s in the shipyards after he came back from war. I am fortunate to have most of his tools and every once in a while Ed comes over with some more. It’s a very simple clever design which is able to contain a surprisingly large quantity of tools and keeps them organized readily visible when needed Been sort of cannibalizing it since I stopped working , so now I decided it’s time to take it from van. Missing tools will be replaced and then box and it’s contents passed on to one of my grandchildren. I have taken great pride and joy in using this box since I started working for myself many years ago. Many of the tools were his ,some actually made by him.

We've been up that one. Beautiful place. Back in August 2016 Trina and I went with 2 others. Stayed 4 nights at a base campground. We went up that behemoth twice in 3 days. The second time we also climbed Hamlin Peak. 16 miles that day!! Here's an old metal can of Neatsfoot. One of us was looking down and around and between the boulders as we ascended. It was setting 6 or 8 feet down a hole. Our friend climbed down in and picked this and a couple other things out. Our postcard from the trip.

@Pullstart... Hicksville the town I currently live in on long island was mainly potatoe fields back then and slowly suburbia started taking over, now it's little India.. I'm catching the eyes of the neighborhood with these ponies when I take em out for a stroll down to the local park or when I bring em out in the front yard i also started growing veggies in the front yard too. There's one other wheelhorse that roams the neighborhood I saw the old man last year I want to say its a raider 12 8 speed. He lives in Levittown another big old farming town, i tried to talk to him but we caused a traffic jam down down the street....

That is why this post is listed under "Bumps and Bruises" rather than "Masochism Memories". Nobody said they enjoyed injuring themselves they just admitted it happened. Personally I try to keep my blunders a secret. Nope, never did any of those stupid tricks.

Just another thought. You mention "Out of hibernation" If the blower housing is full of a mouse nest this could cause resistance to turning. It can wedge in between the flywheel and the housing. If the electrical wire diagnosis doesn't solve it, pull the cover off anyway to get a good look see on what's going on when the key is turned

The through hikers are on their way! Franklin NC where I live is a few day's hike from Springer Mountain GA where the Appalachian Trail begins. For the past couple of weeks we have been visited by hundreds of ambitious hikers who spend a night off trail and pick up provisions here before heading on. The warmer than average March weather has let them get an early start. Franklin businesses go out of their way to accommodate hikers and the town has been designated as an Appalachian Trail Community. https://appalachiantrail.com/places/franklin-nc-an-appalachian-trail-community/ https://www.visitsmokies.org/the-friendliest-stop-along-the-appalachian-trail-be-a-lazy-hiker-awhile/

It is possible that a battery cable has gone bad or a connection is corroded causing the problem. Here is a process that will help find the culprit. Take an automotive jumper cable, connect the black lead to the battery negative (-) terminal and a clean bolt on the engine. Connect the other lead to the starter cable bolt on the starter and momentarily touch the battery positive (+). If your starter turns over well then move that lead to the side of the solenoid where the starter cable is connected touching the battery positive momentarily, if the starter turns over satisfactorily then move the cable to the battery side of the solenoid and repeat the process while someone holds the key to the start position. If all is working as it should then remove the black ground cable and see if the starter turns over. Any single connection in the starter circuit could be the problem. Take the time to clean and tighten ALL electrical connections to prevent future problems too.

The Pa. Huntsdale hatchery that raises most of our stocked trout has a good program and if the fish are handled properly after catching, make some good table fare. They raise mostly brown and rainbow with a few golden. The bald eagles love the easy to spot goldens. Many of the local private clubs raise brook trout that can have a softer filet. Some of our streams carry a good population of native and carry over browns. They are normally released, but if on does swallow the hook and is kept, they are the best with a bright salmon colored flesh. We stock early in Feb. and early March, so the fish have 4-6 weeks in the streams before the April opener.

Sixty five years of camping on the ground under a roosting gobbler, To my 35 foot travel trailer camp on the Delaware bay. And every thing in between. A few of the pics. Sorry for the bad quality of the old pics. 2016 Big Show 2017 Delaware Bay Camp My 28 foot Mobile Traveler pulled by a 1976Jeep Grand Wagoneer . This was long before a Wagoneer cost $100K. Made several trips to Disney World. My Coleman pop up pulled by a Ford Bronco. Probably our greatest vacation. In the fall of 1988, our oldest son was junior at Penn State and we dropped our youngest off for his first year at WVU. The nest was empty so we kept driving West and camped for 30 days in National Parks and on open BLM lands. Yellowstone, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Rocky Mt. and many others. We camped in the 24 foot Cuddy Cabin on Raystown Lake and Delaware Bay from 2000 to 2010. After a week long bear hunt in Northern Quebec camping in an old abandon trappers cabin with no running water, I insisted all my passengers bath for the ride home. 1970 Almost forgot the Shadow Cruiser slide in truck camper. The four grandsons loved the cabover bunk and emergency exit.

Great story Richard. I hope their feet get toughened up by the time they get to Pa. this summer. We will be waiting with heat, thorns, rocky terrain, rattlesnakes, and black bears. They can enjoy some good ice cream at Boiling Springs. I have covered most of the AT in WVA., Md., and Pa. On 3-4 day trips with our Boy Scout Troop#35. We covered 12-15 mile /day. Many great memories from those hikes. I remember one section we planned to hike that I didn't want to miss, but I had to be in Lausanne Switzerland for a meeting before the hike would have been finished. So a few days before we started the hike, I deposited a car along the trail with my luggage. We hiked three days to get to the car, I drove directly to the airport and made my flight.

I do not think It will be finished. I am waiting for the carburetor which is at an engine builder to replace the OEM emulsion tube with a jet and adjuster. Then the engine will be run to determine the idle speed so the CVT can be ordered. Some other things to be completed are brake master cylinder, jackshaft, v-belt tensioner, plumbing and electrical. Test run and debug. Then to sheet metal shop and then disassembly for paint. I have been working on this project for 20 months and the one thing this project has taught me is there is always light at the end of the tunnel and patience. Hopefully next year we will see all of you. Can't wait.

So….I took all the good advice and knowledge from @Ed Kennell @wallfish and @oldlineman and tried to put it to good use. I used the jack bolts on the bearing. I used some heat along with the jack bolts although I only had map gas. I couldn’t get that bearing to even think about budging. Moved on to the pulley. Tried jamming the next size (27mm) torx bit into the set screw. Success!!! Put a ratchet wrench on it and attempted to turn it. SNAP!!! Well, that didn’t work out so well but it seemed to go along with the rest of the luck I’ve been having. Got the broken torx bit out finally and got the drill ready to go. Drilled the set screw out of pulley and put some heat on it. The pulley is not budging either. Time to admit defeat. Got the driveshaft out of the snowblower with the pulley still attached to one end and the bearing still firmly attached to the other end. Took the whole thing down to a machine shop. They took a look and said “no problem”. They had a 6 ton press and started with one worker to press things apart. It ended with 4 workers, an acetylene torch, a 6 ton press and over one hour spent trying to get those two pieces off that shaft. We told them they could cut the bearing off if it would be easier, they said “no, this is a challenge now”. They finally got both the bearing and the pulley off the shaft but they kept saying how they couldn’t believe the amount of effort that it took. Like I said earlier in this post, I’ve overhauled a few of these snowblowers befor and never had a big problem getting the bearings and pulleys off the shaft but this one kicked my butt. Thanks to the members here for all your good advice and hopefully I can return the favor sometime. Jim

Today I started taking my 604 apart so that I can repaint it and put new stickers on it. Since I used it to plow it has earned its time to be a nice restored tractor and I can use a different one to work with. I can’t wait to see it all nice next to my dads 603. This is my only round hood and I like the round hoods.

If that little gal caught those, she's way ahead of most of us. CUTE. Our trout season opens March 1. It's open all year but only catch and release during winter months. My brother-in-law and I head to Roaring River State Park in southwest MIssouri. We always schedule our trip preceding the "free kids fishing Saturday". The park adds plenty of trout and several lunkers. We work our fly rods and ultralight fishing poles and barely catch our limit. These tykes show up with big ole bobbers, Snoopy fishing poles and drag in the fish! I don't know about Pennsylvania trout but almost all the Missouri trout are all raised by the conservation department. These fish are fed on glorified dog food. I'm not real fond of them and the only way we cook them is in the smoker. I talked to the fellow who feeds them in the hatchery and he said that the fish food would not be good for dogs as it had too much protein or something in it. I would think naturally wild trout would be better eating. The picture is our grandbabies at Bennett Springs State Park. It is another trout park. Our granddaughter loves to fish but often times the competition to find a place to stand and fish can be difficult. Even though she is a little older now, when she steps up to the creek and throws her line in, the other fishermen give her plenty of room to cast. In part, because the others like to see a young lady fishing but most of all for self preservation. Her casts don't always end up where one would expect and taking a few steps sideways is easier than removing a wayward hook. I have both of their first trout fishing permit hanging in our camper.

A gundrill is a precision Machine Tool used to drill deep holes straight in one pass( definition of a deep hole is one where the depth is at least 10X the diameter of the tool doing the cutting a 1/4" hole would be at least 2-1/2" deep) As the name states, originally used to machine the bore of Rifle Barrels. The drill is hollow, coolant is pumped thru it up to the cutting edge of the tip - chips are flushed bach away from the cut... The finished cut is straight - usually no more than .0002 inch per foot from center !!

These will fit any Wheel Horse with the front hitch. I used a 5/8" bolt because I had it, 5/8' rod will work just as well. I used a 2x2x1/4 angle a flat plate will work also. Your a couple years late can't see to weld anymore

Possibly Dolby Pond. That picture was taken in 2006. Last July we took the camper up to Mt Chase just north of Patten Maine to a good friends hunting camp. This pic was taken at Medway Maine lookout. Stopped there last July and we could not get a pic because of the weather. Don't get up that way much anymore. Have a friend who lives in Portage Lake Maine north of MT Chase also. This pic is at the same spot of me taking a picture of Patti taking a picture of Mt Katahdin in the clouds 16 years later. @c-series don p

I have found a useful trick to clean those tiny holes in the high speed jet. Strip some 12-2 electric cable down to the bare wire from one wire, carefully pull the strands of copper wire apart and use 1 strand to poke the hole followed by compressed air. Been using that trick on small motor carb jets.

Thanks everyone for the good information Ended up.going this afternoon to look at the 654. I bought it. Unfortunately I have my trailer tires off & at tire shop getting replaced so I couldn't bring it home. Guy I bought it from offered to deliver it end of next week for $50! Score!!! So for $450 I got a running 654 delivered! It has a Tecumseh engine- probably not original I believe. He is into Cub Cadets & got it on a package deal so he wasn't interested in keeping it. Now I need to find a snow plow because I doubt the plow or snowblower off my 1984 C105 will fit?

Good score !! I see someone added a "Big Boy" helper spring under the seat to keep the seat pan off the rear fenders. I did an adjustable one on the 854 8 speed... a bolt-in version that uses existing holes - works well. I also see the PTO lever dangling - the roll pin to stop it needs attention, and the spring...

@rj24 I think it's great that you are aware of the need for a filter on your machine. Most folks these days think when it breaks, it's time to replace. They can't define the word "service"- in more ways than one, but that is for another thread... Much like oil in an engine- old oil is better than no oil. Regularly servicing with a correct hydraulic filter is great. Far better than so many machines I've picked up with the original filter on it from 1971. I use WIX filters on everything. Sometimes, they are not in stock and I am forced to use another brand for this range of hours until the next service. I've never damaged a machine this way that I'm aware of. Point being- If WIX are hard to find, I'm glad you still service the transmission. Use the highest quality filter you can get at the time and enjoy the tractor.

Other than hand tools and a drill press I don't have machines to manufacture things the way I would like so I have to make do. I have some hubs to pull but have been soaking them for weeks and they don't look too bad. I cut an old mangled hub back with a reciprocating saw to maximize the travel, bored the holes to 7/16", got some 7/16-20x4" from McMaster-Carr and repurposed an old puller. I'll find out this weekend what breaks first

@Wheel Horse 3D if you find excess crud in your tank , a valve pullout , and refresh isn't that hard to do , I personally use dielectric grease on the rubber grommet / valve installation , made for dissimilar rubber/ metal / plastic joining . makes the grommet fit , valve installation, much easier . pete
