The C-160 rides again! I finished getting the C-160 back together today. Had a few challenges that took a while. Getting the roll pin back in the high/low range shifter and getting the dog point set screw back in after the tranny was back under it. Tried using one hand for too long. It was too big and getting in the way. I was able to hold the shifter between palms and use both index fingers to run the set screw in. Then the lock nut. I want to thank all of my new friends for all of your help. I ran it through all the gears successfully. Someone could have cautioned me hold on tight when starting off in third gear in high range. I'm nearly 200 lbs and the front tires came off the ground.

If you lift a 60” deck by yourself, you might injure your scrupulous.

I will be very scrupulous when giving the middle finger salute when I leave work today. Jeff Foxworthy may even say something like...... "screw u plus" the wagon you rode in on.

This is for the older tractors but I think they had one for the C series too. But as you can see it's just a shaft with the handle removed and a bracket welded on in place to accept the actuator connection

Took a break to get some images of the Hooded Mergansers in my neighbor's pond last Saturday. That's late for Hooded Mergansers to be around here in NE GA.

My friend dropped this off to store for a bit at my place. Just wondering if anyone on here knows anything about it or has any info I can pass along. Runs great starts 1st pull and all engages. Rugged as heck. Old Troy built with a tecumseh engine not sure the HP. He said they guy he bought it from said it OG came with a Briggs? Not sure if thats true or not. Any info or feed back be awesome. If nothing else enjoy the photos and the old school nostalgia. They don't make them like they used to. P.s I think I posted this in the right category, don't banned me if I didn't

@Horse Newbie When is your neighbor moving his wife out to the shed, so he has more room for his stuff?
  10. 5 points
Yup - 6HP (H60 on the tag) Troy-Bilt "Pony", I believe. Probably from the late 1960's, maybe 70's... Rugged, dependable machine...

Without a doubt you should use a spring like Ed posted for the link to the plow frame when using a winch

Hey Jim, Feel I should share a problem I found years ago when I mounted a wheel horse plow on my Yammy 4 wheeler. I used a RC HF winch to lift the plow and was not able to control the winch overrun and broke a few eyebolts before I installed a heave spring in the lift cable. You can also see a lever that pulls the blade locking pin when the plow is raised allowing the blade angle to be changed.

In the form of our good friend & drinkin buddy Rob Bush @oldiron613 from Hartford, WI. He has a heck of collection with many oddballs and even a few horses not to mention a Pond signed lever steer. He is also a freakin walking Wikipedia on many brands of vintage tractors. We meet up & visit with him at a few shows we exibit at and he usually brings a nice RJ. Anyhoo he's got a nice article in LAGT magazine this month on his mini museum. You get in our neck of the woods be sure to stop for a short hair tour! Looking forward to this year's shows Rob and cracking a brewski with ya! I have six words for a possible solution to this issue. Over kill, Over kill, Over kill. My thoughts would be to get an actuator that would handle at least 3 times what it needs to. My hopes would be that excess would work in my favor. When ordering an actuator for outside use, one also need to look at it's ability to survive in a wet environment. The more water tight, the better. I would want an IP rating of IP65 or higher. This rating would protect the unit from weather up to a moderate pressure washing.

I had some time to work on the bed roof this afternoon. While welding it dawned on me what I'll use as the roof covering. I had though about using sheet metal or possibly painted plywood. Now the material of choice will be truck bed liner. I've used them before for things like floors in the duck and chicken coops. Full size long bed trucks will give you a nice 4x8 sheet of heavy corrugated black plastic. If cut correctly it is even slightly interlocking at the seems.

Good tillers. They made these with Tecumseh, Briggs, and Kohler engines over the years. If I didn't have a tiller for my WH, this would be my next choice.

Excellent work here Jim. On that linear actuator, as long as the actuator has NO direct contact with the plow it would work great. The lift section would need to be a chain/cable NOT a solid link. The actuators, for the most part, aren't made to take the sudden strains of a working plow.

It’s still mind boggling to me how fast these things grow. We got them on Sunday. They have easily doubled in size… height length and width. Feather growth is incredible as well! I get a kick how they basically fall over for a nap too. It’s kind of like @Achto at Symco eh @WHX???

A pair of Wood Ducks flew in with them. But they soon spotted me and flew out. The Mergansers didn't spot me until I got up to leave.

So you fill the fire extinguisher with fluid have an air source connected to the fill port cut the end off of the hose and place a locking fill chuck and viola you have pressurized fluid filler. Needs to be a water extinguisher. I have access to old extinguishers being the in volunteer fire service and they work great for filling transfer cases and differentials

The Popeye Arm is getting old and stiff doing snow with the manual lift... So... Proof of concept using a HF winch... Still working on the details but it works... The winch plate attaches to the 2" hitch.

Man that’s a good looking tractor! Glad you fixed it up and kept it after you had first had a slight inclination to sell… Glad the guys on here helped persuade you to wrench on it and keep it. Hope you spend many hours riding and working it !

Scrupulous. meaning: “very careful about doing something correctly.” It can also mean “careful about doing what is honest and morally right.” Here at EB & BBT Acres we are scrupulous about our repairs, projects, and modifications.

Had a surprise birthday party for my 26 year old BIL today. There were 12 of us guys at an indoor golf simulator place. There were two simulators, and 4 hours. Got plenty of swings in and I traded my soft shaft driver for a firm shaft driver with a guy who really wanted a soft one. Winning! I am looking forward to swinging my new driver a bit more and never thought I’d say this but am looking forward to golf season. Talk birdie to me!

The handlebars can be offset to the side so the operator doesn’t have to walk on the tilled soil, too.

That's a pic off the net. BUT .. They connect to the rock shaft and are used just like a hydraulic ram. The rock shaft has an arm attached instead of a handle. The rock shaft part was part of the kit that swapped with the handle but making one from a handle type isn't too difficult. Basically cut off the handle and weld on a piece of flat stock with holes to connect the actuator. I might have that factory piece here to get some pics if we can't find any on the net

@Achto @SylvanLakeWH @ebinmaine like those actuators , if I were to use one , would consider a seperate , bracket to secure its pull , as well as a chain link set up . @Ed Kennell has the right spring set up , let that take the sudden pick up , at a much softer rate , avoiding stress shock. not having an electrical lift , have experimented a lot with spring balance point . glad to see you guys looking for a better way to do a regular function , better watch out , you are heading into my trend of thought , going rogue , pete 2 ACHTO

Well guys I'm pretty well convinced. Did a quick search this morning and I found 4 different pictures of a 551 frame with that bracing. I can only think it's factory. Unfortunately 3 of them were in the wrong format and I couldn't post them. Speculating here but maybe something they added later in the run when that saw a problem?

Those tins are looking great! Nice pipes too, they remind me of a vette with side pipes
  48. 3 points
That’s what I’m talking about, like the one that came factory on a 418-8. Hooks to the rock shaft and does the same thing any hydraulic or manual lift would do.

Found a NOS oil filter kit for the KT17 series 2 with install instructions so that will be a nice addition to the engine also got some gaskets in to have. Set the engine on the frame again so I can start mocking things up get some ideas and numbers before I take it all apart. Going be tight, but if there is a will there is a way. Also took the stock muffler off since was in great shape and stored that, was just to clean to alter it at all, and replaced it with some header pipes I will make the custom exhaust off of to fit the new stacks.
