9 pointsI blame my addiction on genetics. Grandparents always had tractors. My dad had 16 small antique farm tractors. 2 of which are now mine and all but 2 of the remaining are still in the family. The fact that I have 2 farm tractors and... I think 19 garden tractors is just carrying on an Old Family Tradition for me.

7 pointsA fairly good survival rate for this disease! Cure involves continued use of the carriers! It started for me in 1960 when dad bought a used RJ at an auction. About twenty years ago my brother and I started the redo tractors period! Began that with dads old 1964 1054. Gone haywire since. It s bad when you don’t recall how many you have of what models! But you never forget the ones you love and embrace!

6 pointshello eveyone its been a long 5 years from the last update well a lot as gone down but this tractor has came a long ways from where it started still got to get the running problem fix a lot of that dills with the shop fire i had but al less the fire queen runs. I love how people say they will give you parts to fix it back up but they never fall thow with what they say they will do lol but I am still working on getting back to the way it was still looking for a set pan for it the high back plasit one and looking at A replacing the hood or B just let it be . and yes that Vac. blower is on it and thats her job is just to clean up the yard every year nothing more lol. wish I can fin a electric lift for it cuz that lift rod hurts the lag after some clutching time lol but other then that everything has worked out good

6 pointsWell we had some dead hanging limbs in the woods for a while and decided to pull them down. Most broke free with just the C-100 but the last one was stubborn. We hooked up two tractors for it and pulled on it in a few different directions to twist it off essentially and we eventually got it. Fun day running the rigs. The front receiver hitch was especially useful. Pulling on these from above always lifts the tractor a bit. The front hitch helped the rear tires stay on the ground much better than pulling from the rear. The big AG tires helped a lot too

5 pointsJust FYI- I knew a fella years ago who worked a contract for Wheel Horse. He ran a machine shop making new 1.125 axles for D series tractors. He told me that the backhoe attachment as well as dual wheel kits broke so many axles that WH ran out of spares, hence the contract. He sold me two new axles, and they were hardened. I wish I could remember his contact info... Point being- NEVER use the backhoe without the outriggers. The axles can't handle the stress. Dualies also require some special care as well.

5 pointsTook the blade off the 312 Hydro and installed the front tiller. The 48" blade never got used for snow this winter, although it did get some dozer work. I still have the 520H w/ 54" blade just in case we ever get a snow. Tilled the garden and all edges of the fruit trees and berry beds.

5 pointsI had one like you're describing. It worked well, until I happened onto a hub that was wallowed enough to misalign the key... A small 8-ton jack makes a bunch of pressure. When it broke the all-thread, I became an unpaid and non-voluntary spokesperson for depend undergarments. Luckily all that was damaged was the all thread. No injuries!

5 pointsLast night we got 4" of wet heavy slop. Did not have time to deal with it this morning so it was still there when I got home from work this evening. Given the fact that there was all this snow that had the consistency of white cow manure, I did what any sane tractor addict would do. I got my lawn mower running. New / used Briggs & Stratton I/C engine is installed and my Swisher ready for duty. Runs, drives, and the mower deck does a great job blowing snow. Unfortunately the crank shaft on the new engine was not designed to utilize the pull start so the recoil starters only purpose now is to serve as a belt guard, but I'm OK with that. I feel a lot better knowing that the piston is sliding up & down in a cast iron cylinder as opposed to the old engine that had an aluminum bore. Least if this engine fails it is worth rebuilding. Bring on some warm weather and some grass to chew on.

4 pointsWell I bought my first 310-08 back in the 90's and enjoyed using it but was just machinery I used to my mow lawn once week and put away story over. Then around 2000 I started doing some work to it and joined this group and folks here were very helpful. I hung around enough to wanna be a supporter and then boom all of sudden this crazy sensation came over me to buy a few more one at a time of course and play with and sell them. Usually bought only 300 series. Just bought a C101 for first time. Minutes ago I just struck a deal with a seller and gonna purchase 4 of them at one time. Is there is a diagnosis for this behavior? haha. Is there a remedy? Jack Daniels? Anyways many thanks to founders and other members that keep this site clicking I've found a fun hobby.

4 pointsIt kind of goes without mentioning, but, here goes.... Remove the square headed hub screw( both if there are 2 in the hub) and squirt your favorite penetrant in the hole to fill it in the 12 o'clock position. Check it a few minutes later - if the hole is empty, that means the looby-juice has migrated out and is doing its job. Repeat for the second screw if you have one. THEN try the puller...

4 pointsOne thing you will notice on any barn find or survivor Wheel Horse is that Kohler used much better paint or painting techniques than . The engine paint is always brighter and in much better condition than the tractor.

3 pointsto everyone that was so kind to reply on my post I really do appreciate it as your comments and thoughts were very help full ;but today I think I found the issue as it won't start or even turn over ;as I removed the starter and bench tested it ;the gear or the shaft did not turn as most are suppose to do so I am sure that it is locked up 'so off to the repair shop to see if it can be fixed if not well a different starter ;it happens as these old horses get old ;and to the ones that suggested to make sure the PTO is not engaged it has the electric clutch and the switch was turned off but thanks anyways '

3 pointsPlain bearings are usually a soft material with a hardened shaft riding on it. If both parts are hard or both soft, galling or seizing can result. Think of the soft main bearings and hard crankshaft in an engine. The Wheel Horse axles were heated and quenched to harden them in the bearing area, you will find that the hardened area will be variable but likely extends a fair distance more than needed.

3 pointsThe axle would probably not las as long; perhaps 50 years rather than 100. What about longer axles from a GT-14 or "D" and construct a truss across the transaxle that would have pillow block bearings outboard of the axle bearings to share the load? The bearings of the pillow block would turn with the axle meaning the axle shaft wouldn't be subject to wear.

Would be nice to have a fine thread in the center Dan but we'd have to go shop at McMaster. Mine came in a nice custom storage case... ... hope she doesn't notice her Tupperware missing.

3 pointsI was attacked by a swan on the wave runner growing up. It was quite territorial to any PWC on the lake. We ended up getting special DNR permissions to trap it at night and they came the next day to take it from our garage. Victory never smelled so sweet! These geese will likely take the place of Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey and I hope we get a mating pair to regenerate out of the 6. I ordered a straight run, so we get what we get.

3 pointsI would imagine that the smaller width of that tiller, tied to the M14 is a earth-shattering monster! I've tilled unbroken red clay with my 310-8 and 36-inch tiller and the engine hardly noticed the tiller was back there. You should be able to break pavement with that thing!

3 pointsPretty much did the same thing as @Achto. He put this set together for xmas gor me. Fought all the way and did Bill's penetrant in the set screw which it did take it but axle was dry. This was the weaker style star hub. Torque all bolts to the same for even pressure. BTW EB other flavors did work better than PB Blaster. I don't have a big breaker bar put an air impact got it moving.

3 pointsSoaked the hub with Sea Foam Deep Creep once a day for about a week. Always put a little 30wt on the threads of the pusher bolt for the puller.

3 pointsI've always had good luck with my home made puller. The bolts are just threaded into hub with no nuts behind them. As you can see in the first pic, it took A LOT of pressure to get this hub off. This hub fought me the entire way. Took some sweating & colorful language but I finally won with no damage to the hub, axle or the puller. Center push bolt is 3/4-10

3 pointsI I bought a Wheel Horse dump cart from Rodney Burger in Florida last week. I sprayed bed with truck bed liner and the underside with boiled linseed oil that protects and brings out the color! This cart has the early Indian head Carlisle tires. Still hold air but several cuts and bruises! I also finally put my new old stock Goodyear tires on the from of my one of my RJs. These are rare tires.

3 pointsFinally got the 418-8 running and ready to be a tiller tractor. I bought this back in November. It wasn't running and kept blowing the main 25 amp fuse when the key was turned to run from off. None of the tires held air for very long so I had an ok set sitting around that got installed. All the safety switches showed some kind of resistance when they shouldn't so I replaced them all as well as several electrical connections that were loose and/or broken from age. The test switch was shorted internally which is what was blowing the fuse. PO would jump the contactor in order to try to start the tractor so I replaced that and the starter. All of the transmission seals were leaking so I replaced them along with the oil that probably hasn't been changed since the '90's. New engine oil, air filter, spark plugs, fuel line and filter. Before: After: Got rid of that awful yellow seat and got one more suiting to a WH. 2 pointsApril 19, our new goslings will be in the mail. I am learning that there are quite a few differences between geese and chickens, as food, nesting, habits, etc all are a bit different. We need to expand the coop, and build another coop. Wintering geese here’s a good link I need to be aware of. The new run will likely be divided into sections, so various grasses and forage will be able to be utilized as needed.

2 pointsOdd thing was, they machined the ends of the tranny housing out to fit the factory seals for 1 1/8" axles. I was thinking, as long as you're boring the hole out for that why not bore it deeper to fit the bearings??

2 pointsThe people across the road from my mother's house had geese that would cross the road and crap all over the place. I cut up a bunch of pieces of a cheap 3/8" green garden hose and placed them along the roadside, geese are very frightened of snakes. It worked, sort of! Now the geese would start crossing the road and stop when they saw the hoses, standing around in the road walking back and forth looking for a safe place to cross. Mom said the hoses had to go before there was a traffic accident.

2 points@Achto , like it when you have that lubrication helping thought , amazing to me to see frozen / rusted . dry areas , ant think nothing of it .btw , my trans drain / flush ,refill , with lucas , climbing gear oil , and road time , has really helped out a neglected gear box. all related linkage areas on this pick up were , bone/ rusty dry . today they are all drunk with lubricant . just going to every , intended movement point , and watching it come out of its frozen state . imagine , choke/ throttle cables , wet with , kroil / super lube , work like butter . probably the last horse , I will do . enjoying it , pete
