7 pointsWe have had the Comcast internet/phone/cable tv bundle for years. It crept up to $296 a month!! Watched Frontier contractors run a new fiber service down my street, once it was done they started making offers to get folks to sign up. Eventually the deal sweetened to $60 a month for their top tier fiber internet, a $200 VISA gift card and $10 a month off a YouTube TV subscription. It was a tough decision to make the swap since it’s so easy to use what we had, learning to use apps to watch anything was a tough learning curve for the wife and I. We are getting much better at it! So with this new internet and the 2 or 3 apps we subscribe to we are right around $140 a month. We did try to cut the bill with Comcast, asked about dropping the landline since we didn’t use it and we were told that the monthly price would increase!! Any cost savings they offered up always included cutting back on channels or services. YouTube TV is an expensive app but it allows unlimited “recording” of shows and will store them for up to 9 months. We always record the NASCAR races and watch em later for example. It also has all our local stations showing in live time. And now that the land line is gone I don’t have to listen to that phone ringing 26 times a day with telemarketers, political recorded messages and general scammy stuff Anyone need a good used phone??

7 pointsInteresting you should bring this up Mike as they recently ran fiber by my place. I have yet to contact the powers that be into hooking into it. I don't know the costs but I suffer from the curse of Squonky since I retired... fixed income. There might be some wiggle room for it in my military retirement check tho. Right now my land line is Century Link but rumor has it they sold out to some outfit called Bright Speed but I haven't seen a land line bill in 4 months... how bizarre. I think I am gonna cut the cord too but cell coverage is real iffy here. I have Bug Tussle (AT&T owned) for internet ... slower than some of EB's builds but does get some up. Only 40 clams a month tho.

6 pointsFamiliar..... I was on ATT for land line, cell, and internet (net was awful) for right at $200. Had Direct TV for some $180 --- cut both those and got Tboone net for net at $50 (Waaay better) and Visage for cell at $35. ROKU for TV .... not too sure yet , to new to get a handle on cost, can see its gonna be way better than Direct. I think I'm saving around $175-200 month ..... YAY!!!!

6 pointsNext phase, picked up another conservatory - I think this is the third one! Sold the other two and have settled on this one to add at the back of the house. Away to work again, but will hopefully get the foundations done next time home. Had no time to get near the wheelhorse, so the 416-8 is still in bits while I get around to sorting it's electrical gremlins.

5 pointsA $4 coffee and breakfast sandwich scores a $9 sausage pepper and onion sandwich with something to drink. Basically a 100% + ROI. Can't beat that kind of return anywhere!
-
5 pointsI hate to be the one to say it, but you really don’t want a Wheelhorse. Why you ask? Because that would be one less for me. Well, ok, I’m way down here in Texas so I guess you won’t hurt my horse hunting much

4 pointsWell folks. Back to the Millie for a bit here. @Oldskool @SylvanLakeWH BBT's next new old something to do... The 10 HP Tecumseh engine was always meant to be a temporary donor engine. We'll take a peak at the original engine which is of course a Kohler 8 HP. We'll also see about adding a few extra gears and a Limited Slip Differential. Swapping the 3 speed for a 6 speed. Yesterday Trina was working from home and it was pretty quiet on the 'puter so she went around the acreage here and gathered up the engine and Starter/generator. She drained the (her words) black goo - from the oil pan. Removed the carb, fuel pump, breather and points cover from the engine. We know the engine had no compression and we know it was because of the exhaust valve being caked with carbon. We'll remove the valves, clean em up, check clearance. Drop the oil pan off and look around in there. After doing some assessment we'll decide what level of work and parts replacement is necessary.

4 pointsI've seen more gear teeth damaged by worn out support blocks not being greased than damage caused by dirt. There's a grease fitting there for a reason!

4 pointsTake a day off and go on Saturday. Probably double the amount of stuff there and it's busy all day long. If you guys camp, you can stay there for free right in your display area and do Sunday too. Lots of different members here pop in from time to time plus we trick @Sparky (The sausage queen) into buying us lunch!

4 pointsI'm one of the newest members here and I just saw this post. Ok, I'll contribute then. This is my stepdads truck, a 1989 Ram D100 with a 318. He bought it from a co-worker in 1998, and yes it was repanted. The tractors are 1967 Sears Craftsmans, hence my handle on here. This was taken in 2021 getting ready to go to the Zagray Farm show in Connecticut. We're Mopar people over here at our house ......

3 pointsHi Everyone, I am the newest member on the forum here and unfortunately I have no Wheel Horses in my collection yet...... but I do have Sears products and it is what I am mainly into. I have 2 Sears Craftsman Power Units from 1967 one of which is a 10 horsepower 857 that was already restored that I bought 3 years ago in 2020, and the other is a 6 horsepower 855 that I bought in 2021 that I am currently restoring and what I am posting about here. This post is going back 2021 when I bought it thanks to a member of MyTractorForum, along with a spare engine too! I bought this from him December 5th and now I got both the 6 and 10 horsepower version! It needs A LOT, mostly everything BUT i will get it there. It all started with me seeing this tractor somewhere on the forum but I forgot where and remembering the fella having it, then meeting the fella at a local tractor show and expressing interest in it saying "if you ever wanna sell it let me know". Then it turns out my first craftsman or the one in the 3rd picture on the left is having problems and asking the fella for some pictures of now my tractor on the right in the 1st and 2nd picture. He then sent me a message saying he was thinking of selling the tractor and asking if I was still interested in it, needless to say I asked if I can come look at it and then went to his house to look at it and then struck a deal. When I bought the tractor the fella I bought it from said he bought it from a kid to restore it, but was never gonna get around to it so he offered it to me before he put it for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The kid was gonna scrap it when the fella bought it! I am now the 3rd owner as far as I know, unfortunately no manuals or paperwork came with the tractor when I bought it though. My personal plan is to document the restoration here when I can and have time, and ask as many questions as possible if I or my stepdad don't know the answer to them. I am going to take as many pictures as possible when the resto gets started and throughout the resto and upload them here as well if my phone allows me to. I also am going to "bag and tag" and label every nut and bolt possible when I take it apart. Look for more on this tractor coming back from the dead in the hopeful near future.... Below are the pictures the fella sent me when he started talking about selling it..... It is now in my shed with my other Craftsman, now I have both the 6 and 10hp versions!

3 pointsSame here Richard... if I go out to pee off the porch I hold it in one hand, phone under the cheek, hold out the other hand... @Achto says the call lasts more than 3 minutes I'm playin with it... the phone you !!!
-
3 pointsSo this internet deal we signed on for is guaranteed to be $59.99 for 36 months. After that who knows. Might be shopping for something new in 3 years. Our cell service is ok, never less than 2 bars so calling out is never an issue.
-
3 pointsWish we had those options. Competition is a good thing but somehow they all seem to jack the price up once the have you hooked up. We live in the mountains and have one internet satellite service and one satellite TV service that isn't blocked by the surrounding mountains. If the weather is bad none of them work. Gave up the land line several years ago and our cell phone coverage is a bit iffy, some days you get two bars and on other days you need to go out to the driveway, most days its best on the front porch. As with everything these days the prices have gone up on all of them.

3 pointsGood call Mike. I haven't had a land line for at least a decade. No cable either. A few years ago Trina ordered internet for her work-from-home usage. We do enjoy the capability of watching dozens of movies at a moments notice.

3 pointsI'll agree. Spring is just around the corner 'cause McDonald's is serving green milkshakes.
-
3 pointsYou Eric I would buy lunch for….that Wallfish @wallfish guy better pack a PB&J in his Scooby-Do lunchbox if he plans on eating at the spring Zag show!

3 pointsI was thinking a certain newly weds to be had dibs ... room for for a baby crib in the back!

3 pointsI like the idea of the hose clamp. I do something slightly different. I cut a circle of rubber from an old inner tube with a 1/2" hole in the middle, remove the knob, slide the rubber halfway down, reinstall the knob. Time for the Lucas grease - a heavy layer of grease placed on the shifter ball in the trans, push the rubber down onto the grease, install the boot. An added layer of protection to keep water out....
-
3 points@Matt Foss on that trans swap, recently recovering a 3/ 12/ 8 , used 2 qts of hi mileage ATF FLUID as my flushing argent / clean up , had this in while getting after other issues . collective run time / miles . thats important . picture that lighter oil flushing down collective debris in trans , regular driving around with out load strain , is fine. the drain was really effective , refilled with lucas ,CLIMBING OIL ADDITIVES , HEAVY DUTY , HIGH PERFORMANCE 80-90 TRANS + DIFF LUBE . much better ,quieter , easy shifting . also put a hose screw clamp on top of your new shift boot along with dielectric grease at the base of it for easy sliding , the clamp will stop boot travel and exposure , have some time on this , just an idea , pete

3 pointsYep, good machine. Those Kohler Magnum motors are fantastic and a 12hp unit is just about the perfect balance between being thrifty on fuel and having enough power for pretty much any chore.
-
3 pointsha ha ha . Oh but I do now that I joined here. Maybe this one for $175 and running with an extra block and rings, oh sheet the horse addiction is already starting. Thank you for the welcome!

3 pointsJanuary 12th 2022 part 3. 3 out of 5 of the parts are all painted, I got 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of white VHT paint on them.....
-
3 pointsJanuary 12th 2022 part 2. I also took a couple parts off the engine and a part off the shroud to put them in the parts washer and to sandblast them. Picture 3 shows them in the washer and picture 4 shows them all blasted......
-
3 pointsJanuary 3rd 2022 part 3. I also took the head off the engine, here is what it looks like when I first took it off along with what the oil looks like when I pulled the dipstick after I noticed there was no more transmission fluid in the spark plug hole . As you can see there is carbon on the head.....
-
3 pointsJanuary 3rd 2022 part 2. I took the shroud off as well, here is what the back of it looks like......
-
3 pointsJanuary 3rd 2022, I took the shroud and starter generator cover off and the flywheel screen off too and found a nice big nest, I vacuumed out the nest since the pictures. I also took the air filter off, and it's the original one! I blew it out with the air compressor gun and it will be replaced with an NOS one, and I will be saving the original to be on the safe side ......
-
3 pointsDay after Christmas 2021 part 2. I cleaned all the rust out of it, I completely cleaned it out twice with rocks CLR and PB blaster. The 2nd picture shows results after cleaning 1 and the 3rd picture shows results after cleaning 2 and letting the CLR sit for 36 hours ......
-
3 pointsThey definitely reproduce. Went one time to get two tractors and by the time I got home there were 5 on the trailer 😂

2 pointsi too tried to negotiate with comcast. no luck. when i handed in all my gear a few years back there was a line of people doing the same. the poor clerk was a nice young gal who did her best to listen to all the griping and still smile. IMO comcast had all these packages with hundreds of channels that i did not care for. you could not get 'a la carte' so to speak. luckily, our municipal gas and electric company expanded into fiber and went around stringing the cable. i saved money. my wife still hates the streaming thing and yes it takes an extra minute or two. i tell her she is retired so what is time to her! LOL!

2 pointsAll the schools are closing here too, "out of an abundance of caution "... This is your average kid (or teacher) right now: This is your average parent right now:
-
2 pointsNot sure if this counts as a classic, but my daily is a 1995 k1500, behind it in the pic is my 1986 Trans Am. They both owe me their life. I have rebuilt both vehicles except the body's. I picked up/trailered the truck from North Carolina January of 2019. I'm in upstate NY so I make sure she's all undercoating yearly and washed regularly. Most recently I replaced/rebuilt my rear end. Went from 10 to 14 bolt, has detroit locker. Its a 350 tbi, rebuilt 4l60e with extras. Procomp 6" lift, rims/tires. Custom bent dual exhaust. Hidden front winch. Alot of work to make it drivable and safe. So when I'm not working on my 1257 horse, I'm catering to the Chevy, or I'm working on the 86 T/A.
-
2 pointsYep! Up until this summer when the new Frontier Fiber came thru Comcast was the only game in town. I expect Comcast to start making all sorts of offers soon (that I will ignore)

2 pointsIn the words of @peter lena - identify the problem, come up with a possible solution, install the fix, GREASE it, and evaluate the results...

2 pointsI don't believe I've ever heard that version before, just beautiful, thanks for posting! Several decades ago, my wife and I were on a weekend road trip somewhere, I don't even remember where to at this point, but it doesn't matter. One of our stops for dinner was a little dive where we had the pleasure of listening to a guy on stage playing an acoustic guitar and singing. I had just finished paying our bill and was coming back to the table when he started playing this tune, and I gently but firmly indicated to my wife that we were staying for a few extra minutes to hear the rest of it. Somehow she's still with me after all these years.
