12 pointsI have a friend that has asked me to get a 701 going for him. For the most part, it should be fairly straightforward, but I need ideas on finding a belt guard (doesn’t have to be a 701 guard, 702, 753, etc will work). I’m also going to have to replace the tranny as this one is toast. What is the going rate for a good 3 speed? I may have one, but am not sure on value. Sorry I haven’t been around, I’ve been busy with our local tractor club, Emory’s therapy and guitar lessons, and getting me a 30x45 metal building up. It’s going to be nice to be able to have a dry, heated/cooled place to work. I’ll post some pics in another thread after I get my dues paid to be able upload more pics. Seems like I’ve been slammed with everything lately along with finishing up my garage. It has hit me for almost double what I thought I’d have in it, but I figure this is my only chance to build it the way I wanted. Thanks guys and I hope to be back around a little more often as things settle and I feel like I can breath a little!

10 pointsI'll get us off to a good start. I'll be moving to a retirement community in the spring, and won't need my 417 with 2-stage blower anymore. Hope this doesn't cause a late winter blizzard before we move. This has been my dedicated snow tractor, and not used for mowing for the past 5 years. Only 508 hours on it. Has an electric lift, two lift assist springs, and electric fuel pump, wheel weights, a new seat, Ag rear tires and tri-rib fronts, only 508 hours, and a dependable Kohler KT17. Asking $1200. More items to follow.

9 pointsThis evening Trina started applying the specially made custom one-of-a-kind decals. Thank you to @Vinylguy !! While she was at that I started laying in the wiring harness.

8 pointsI pick this Rader9/12 up yesterday in Deep River Ct yesterday. It was cheap compared to what you see on the net these days. Crazy stuff! Any way the Teckey that was in it blew up, so the p/o went with a newer K Kohler 12 that they had on the shelf. It has a push button start and a toggle shut off with a very nice not stock nice amp meter. Smokes on startup but goes away after that. This my summer tractor for yard work only. The boat seat is history. I have a nice original deck that came with it. That I would like to sell but it might be spoken for? these are for the 10-1257 series and the Raiders also and whatever else that it would fit on. Will post if not sold.

8 pointsTrina's working from home today and pretty well finished up so she applied the hood side decals. Still not sure what guages I'll use but if I keep an ammeter I wanted the wires as short as possible and also up away from the shift linkage so she swapped the positions of the voltmeter and ammeter. Voltmeter wires are super small and easy to route high up.

7 pointsThis is sick! I think I would have put it in a Wheel Horse though… I may be biased.

6 pointsFor those of us who are old enough to remember the Roy Rogers show on TV the appearance of his sidekick Pat Rodgers driving "NellyBelle" in a wild west show would qualify as an anachronism.

6 pointsHour meter, maybe a compass incase you get lost in the woods?? https://www.ritchienavigation.com/product/ritchiesport-dash-mount-2/

6 pointsI add an inline fuse to all of my resto's. I use a 20amp fuse in between the main battery power source and its first connection. Example : Between the hot side of the starter relay (same post that is connected to the battery "+") and the power to the ignition switch. Or between the hot side of the starter relay and the amp gauge, if you have one.

5 pointsAn anachronism is an error in which something in a movie, story, etc., is placed in a time where it does not belong. Anachronism can also refer to a person or a thing that seems to belong to the past and to not fit in the present. There have been many occasions when I've felt I was an anachronism and should have been in an earlier simpler time.

5 pointsI wanted a high cover on the side step sandpaper so we changed the location of a couple decals.

5 pointsHere are a couple of pics of the garage I’ve been working on. It’s 30x45 with 3 10x8 roll up doors and a side entrance door. I framed a bodywork and paint area to keep overspray and dust down. I poured the floor with help from my cousin and brother in law. We weren’t pros, so I coated the floor with a two part epoxy flake system to hide my mistakes. I’m really happy so far and am ready to start moving stuff in this weekend!

4 pointsI listed this last year but it didn't sell. I am reducing the price to find this a new home. I will not bring it to the Big Show unless it is presold. I'm having a reality check and know that I need to begin selling off some of my herd. The 1055 was the one that got me hooked on about twenty years ago and I probably will regret selling it but I seldom use it and would like to pass it on to someone who will continue to show it some love. It is a 1965 model 1055 with a good battery and starts and runs awesome, smokes a little but as far as I know this is the original engine and has smoked a little for two decades. It has a nice @BOB ELLISON seat and serviceable tires that hold air/liquid. The fronts are Wheel Horse branded and show some cracks, the rears are Good Year and have been liquid filled with RV antifreeze. The tractor comes with a short frame snow/dozer blade, wheel weights, chains and a 36" rear discharge gear drive mower in good condition. It has a cone type PTO (parts not mounted because of interference with the snow plow angle arm. The foot operated PTO for the mower deck is also included The going price for a good running square hood short frame tractor with a new seat would be around $ 600 or more. Short frame snow plow should bring $ 150. Wheel weights and chains are going for about $ 150. Rear discharge 36" gear drive mower should bring about $ 100. Add it all up and it is a 1,000 value, but I am asking $ 800 $ 600 for the package deal. SOLD

4 pointsMy brother David Ralph’s 1963 Wheel Horse 633. He paid $60 for this tractor from a neighbor before he repainted it! I used on a front reel mower one summer and with s snow blade two winters. He still has this one!

4 pointsBack to anachronism... I recently read a fictional book by one of my favorite authors. The setting was 1965 Biloxi Mississippi, and a category 5 hurricane had just destroyed the coast. The anachronism that I discovered was that the writer stated that the National Guard handed out cases of bottled water. Unless they were handing out Perrier, cases of plain bottled water was still about a decade into the future. I know, it's just fiction...

4 pointsPeek-tures. The 854 was speciffically built to be a reinforced plowing tractor. I added a bent bracket to the left lower hood stand brace - both added fron a 1962 version... Zip tied in place. I think it is important to choose a location that is out of the weather and accessable. Auto parts stores carry these - about 6 bucks and do not come with a fuse. Important - these come in different gauge wire sizes AND temperature ratings - get a big un with the ability to survive next to a toasty Kohler...

4 pointsThis is another question that's come up... I'm thinking I'd like to have an ammeter in this tractor but I'm not overly fond of the possibilities of one shorting out although I do realize that's ultra rare. I suppose probably a 20 or 25 amp fuse between the battery post and the ammeter would be the easiest way to avoid future issues?
-
4 pointsI did one on both the 854 8 speed and the C81. Near the + post on the battery - the wire going to the ammeter, I believe. No pictures - may have some later. Used a 25 amp blade style fuse with the snap over weather resistant cover - made a bracket to "mount" the one on the 854, not so on the C81. Years ago I did have a "thermal event" with Dad's 702 - 50+year old ammeter wire chafed thru - lost the voltage regulator in the process. Adding a fuse is a good idea...

4 pointsSince 1989 Valvoline 10-30 year round since new. 2023 Valvoline 10-30 changed every 15 to 25 hours. No smoke, no oil usage. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

4 pointsSo far its missing some bolts but really greasy. Also I am missing some of the engine tin covers and the bolts to them. Too bad its winter as I would have already had this degreased and power washed. Big shoutout to Pullstart as he is helping me with some of my questions and missing panels. I am going to replace the cracked fender pan with a metal one and try to find some of the missing parts.
-
3 pointsSo now his handle is Ribbie? 'Cause he is always ribbing us or feeding us full of crap?!?!?

3 pointsWhat's the story on the Nelson muff EB? I just took one similar to that off a 1276 parts tractor that was given to Dan and I. I thought it was unique and had character. Managed to save it rusted on and all. No idea if the tink tinker is orginal? Outlet is threaded 1 1/4 NPT... can you say stack? Sure I knew you could... Insides might be rusted rotted tight tho . I'll go get some pics...

3 pointsYep. Spray every screw and bolt while it's there with you. Do that a few times a day and most of it will come apart. You might lose some and have to address those, but you should be able to save a bunch of hassles if you're patient and back the screws and bolt out without breaking them.
-
3 pointsWhen you see that corrosion from out-gassing, the Bat-Tree might be spent. Have it tested.

3 pointsYes most hubs can be saved if not wobbled out and fit fairly snug on the axle. Check the keyway and axle for damage. While your at it check the outer axle bearing and seal.

3 pointsI used an electrical panel hole cover to plug the extra hole on one of my tractors. Painted it the same color as the dash, bent the tabs out a bit more after installing. Example below, but should be available at your local hardware store. https://www.grainger.com/product/52AW76?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:4P7A1P:20501231&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2uCZy8uc_QIVYTizAB0fIAfHEAQYASABEgL0U_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
-
3 pointsA volt meter will fit in the same hole as an ammeter. In less I'm trying to stay stock, I install a volt meter instead.
-
3 pointsI know you have a lot of work, money & experimenting into this project already but I'm just gonna throw this out there again. Why not run sprockets & chains? A Suzuki Hayabusa has 187hp, at 9700RPMs, a claimed 110ft lbs of torque and will go 200+MPH with a 530 (equivalent to #50) chain driving the wheel. I would think that the same size chain would hold up in your application. If you have room for the pulley's & belts you should have room for the same size sprockets & chains. You could still run your tensioners with an idle sprocket. Slipping issue would be gone.

3 points@Racinbob I’m with you on that! I’ve yet to blow up one of my engines or cause unnecessary damage that I’m aware of. For years I used Kendall oil until my auto parts guy stopped carrying it. Then I switched to their brand and haven’t had any problems. If anything I may change oil too often! My Work Horse GT-1800 I bought brand new and never did anything to the engine but change the oil a lot. I never put additives in the oil or worried if it had zinc or anything else in it. It’s still going strong. That being said I hope I didn’t just jinx myself so I’ll shut up now!!
