18 pointsI was at a friend's today with my JD 110 and we had that and his Wheel Horse out for some seat time and his better half took some nice photos and I figured I'd share. I know I know some of us don't like green machines. Sorry ahead of time but I'm a old machine lover of all makes and models. I just have a bigger space for WHEEL HORSE!!!

10 pointsI was a pretty good wrestler. I started in 1st or 2nd grade, and worked up through 9th, between freestyle and middle school / high school teams. 8th grade, I was bumped up to the varsity team and I believe I was in the 155 weight class most of my later years. I tore my corroded artery and suffered some internal bleeding, making me to decide to end my career wrestling, and begin working. The coaches weren’t happy, the principal and vice principals persecuted me, but at wouldn’t let their actions change my goals and decisions. Fast forward about 23 years. Rylee wants to wrestle. I contacted the coaches of the local club and because she homeschools, they told me she cannot join middle school team, but could wrestle in the club. Two different organizations, club and team. She began practice two weeks ago. Twice a week, and last week Tuesday we showed up for a practice and there was a young kid’s meet being made up from the scheduled Monday it should have been on. Then, after two practices and one meet in the stands, she decided it was time to enter her own competition. Thursday practice, we signed her up. Most weight classes have a Novice and an Open division. Because of her age, her only option was Open division, where it’s assumed there are at least two years of wrestling under your belt. She had three practices! Of the 5 kids in her class, there were two girls. She didn’t win any matches, but she never backed down and never gave up fighting. I’m dang proud of that kid, for even the courage to show up! When I was warming her up in the corner, getting her arms and shoulders loose like my coaches used to do for me, I was hit with a couple of tears. That sure doesn’t happen to this gruff dude, but it did! The other girl ended up second, which I believe is very inspiring to another girl just starting. This weekend, there might be a girls division. I’m not sure, based on the age group though. She has a bit of a shiner on her right eye this morning, some bruises and burns on her arms, and is all smiles!

7 points@Pullstart Have you given any thought to having a complete physical? I am in agreement. with @squonk fasting may not be the answer. I know you are a grease monkey it could be something to do with the chemicals you are around on a weekly basis. It also could be the type of food you eat. Just my ole man . Go have a complete physical.
-
7 pointsYour like me restored 110RF and UN-restored Front Blade. Though I still haven't brought myself to use my 110RF for snow yet. Myself I have been Tractor color Blind for Years. There both great looking garden tractors

6 pointsI had to lose weight due to being borderline diabetic. I met with a nutritionalist and cut out sugar and limited my meals to 30 carbs per meal, 15 carbs per snack, and had to have each one 3 times a day. There are lots of things to eat that are low carb and low sugar, you just need to do a little research. You can still have starch, just keep it at a minimum. Try to walk a little more than usual, even if it is just around your yard. I lost 30 pounds in about 9 months. It takes 21 days to create a habit. You are going to have days when you mess up, and allow yourself a "cheat" day from time to time. Beef jerky, cubed cheese, granola, ice tea, low carb tortillas, vegetables, all are good. Special K cereal with bananas really helped me! Keep the protein high and the carbs + sugar low.

5 pointsNot a fan of JD, but my grandpa had an old 110 too. He wasn't very good at fixing stuff (unlike my other grandpa), but he sure enjoyed doing things with it. Heck, so long as you enjoy them- I can't blame anyone for that!

4 pointsBig shout out to @ebinmaine and BBT, for their support through PM’s not only with knowledge, but just atta’boys! I have been feeling like crap for about 6 months. About 4 or 5 months ago, I felt like it’s time to change. I kept coming up with excuses, or putting off plans to change. Last week, I was tired of putting it off. My goal was to do a three day fast. Three days with no food? Are you crazy? Not eating only sucked for the first day. I’m going to change me. I have goals. I want to do stuff without losing my breath. Namely putting socks or shoes on. I know flip flops are where it’s at, but it’s winter time. EB and Trina are awesome people. I reached out to EB because I know they would have thoughts, resources, and some knowledge on being healthy. I know food and beer choices are most of what put me here. Time to get better.

4 pointsExactly. An annual EKG was a requirement along with the annual physical to keep our group health plan intact. So I had about 20EKGs with no flags. Then about 20 years ago during a preexam for a twin hernia operation, the gas man spotted a problem on the EKG that triggered a stress test, then a TV camera inside my pump to see what was wrong. He found 30% blockage in the small vessels on the back side where nothing could be done except take the meds to prevent any further clogs and run the camera back in the pump every 5 years to check on the blockage. A good diet, exercise, and a low BMI goes a long way to prevent problems. But if a problem all ready exists, please get it checked out.

4 pointsblood work, colonoscopy... the whole nine yards. That's if you have or can find a decent family doc that just don't wanna shove pills in ya.
-
4 pointsYep, I had one .....for 45 years. Average weight is 175 with a winter peak of 195 right after the holidays. Just have to keep chokin down the aspirin, simvistatin, and lisinipril to keep the pump working and the pipes open. Oh, and keep a pocket full of nitro just in case the pump needs a jump start when I'm up in a tree.
-
4 pointsOne reason I went back to work 2 days a week 6 hours a day. No stress. I give advice on a course of action and the higher ups decide. I can come and go as I want and just leave if I don't like what's going on. Plus I get to walk around a lot and get paid for it
-
4 pointsGet a 70-80 hr 7 day a week stressful job! That will get you there quick! I lost 30 lbs in 8-9 weeks without even trying. Plus it paid to loose it. LoL Your social life will get pretty lean too!
-
4 pointsYes it is. Stripped everything out of it and off of it that was not needed. Mad a few adjustments to it and still got a few pieces to add. But I'll be honest using it as a box blade, it can move some heavy, wet or fluffy snow with no problems.
-
4 pointsFast forward a bit - she asks Dad for the keys to the truck, and it's Best 2 out of 3!!! Seriously, good for both of you... Bill
-
4 pointsThose are great photos. Calendar shots! I too have a soft spot for Garden Tractors of all colors. But WHeel Horses sure are easier to work on.
-
3 pointsMan, this is one fraught topic right up there with the best “red” paint, and best way to pull a hub! Don’t mind me, I’m gonna be sitting right over here on the sidelines soaking it all in. And best of luck to ALL of you with your goals.
-
3 pointsNot to far off with those words tho. I guage my health by bowel movements which are so regular you could set an atomic clock by. Thats a red flag right ther and should have nothing to do with your diet. Normal for me but I gag two packs a day and I am 63. Have you consulated a professional or your doctor? Not that I don't trust EB & BBT, probably trust them more than a doc, but still. You might have other underlying issues. One thing I can say fer sure is not eating for 90 days is not good. You need to get over here for some good eats and some fungus & onions... Stay well bro...
-
3 pointsYes they were ten pinion. Mine is a 1970 and the bearings are not the 1533 on this model. I recall reading somewhere that the supply of 1533 bearings were unavailable for a short time and the Ponds made up for that by replacing the 1533 bearing with a Torington B-348 bearing and a race pressed onto the differential where the 1533 would ride. The one on the right is the GT-14 with the Torington races pressed on, one on the left was from a six speed. If the races were removed the two ten pinion units would be the same height.
-
3 pointsAh, but are they allowed to own and work on Red Tractors??? Me thinks not....
-
3 pointsLongest living group of people in the world, across ethnic and national borders, are nuns. Routine fasting, minimal healthy diet, long hours of silent meditation, rather sedate lifestyle... might be on to something...
-
3 pointsKevin, I decided to make a change and lose weight. I started just before the new year on a program called Awaken180. I thought it would be harder than it is. Down from 204 to 192 so far. My goal is 175. Have not seen that number in years!! Keep the push going. This year at the big show we will forgo beers and just drink clear alcohol at dinner😂
-
3 pointsKevin, Sounds like our kids have more than horses in common. Brennan has been wrestling since he was 4. He is now a sophomore and in his second year at varsity. He is undefeated so far this year. Won our home tourney this past weekend. I made the mistake of working out/wrestling him last week at practice (I also coach some).

3 pointsReminds me of growing up on the farm in Iowa. We had an equal mix of John Deere and Farmall (IH) tractors of all sizes. Equally reliable tractors in the working farm size. Comparable in service, repairs, parts availability, etc. Would still keep older ones in either brand. But in the garden tractor size can't beat the Wheel Horse.

3 points@Chris G my friend those pics are just excellent! Please do pass along to the friend's Other Half the appreciation for taking them. As stated above I'm not much of a JD fan but I have long held an admiration for the early Johnny Popper sound and those 60s Round Fenders. Enough in fact that I have a set here to be used on a project. No matter the make it's great to see them out getting USED in the weather as was originally intended. @oliver2-44 makes the point that keeps me and Trina in the Wheelhorse Herd. It's a simple matter of sheer practicality. Horses have a comparable or better ruggedidity level to many others but... The parts are more readily available to us. The prices are lower. The maintenance and repairs are easily done. And of course.... The folks here on Redsquare are just fantastic.
-
3 pointsMy experience with JD`s is the older ones are more user friendly. But they are all made well. In my home state all you see is green.

3 pointsGo to the Toro MPV . The transaxle will be shown. https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro Ener your model number EXACTLY as: 71-20KS01

3 pointsGreat find on that car. I found a 1960 MGA some time ago that had an Olds 215 swap in it. Add said it was a roller and in pieces. Since it was not too far away, I went to see it and bought it. A friend of mine went with me to pick it up. Flat towed it behind his truck, with the bed full of parts. My wife got home just as we had put the car in the garage, and emptied the parts out of the truck onto the lawn. My wife was looking concerned over the amount of parts in the lawn. About then, my friend looks at me and says "let's go back for the next load". We both about fell over laughing when my wife started spittering.
-
2 pointsSo I got these from a friend of mine. I was planning on giving them to my nephews 11th birthday in 2 weeks. Now I'm not sure. I kinda want to build them myself or ......... keep them as is in the box !! I think they are from 1970 ish. When I was younger I did many plastic model kits, balsa wood kits, and rocket kits but never a metal kit. Any of you boys have any knowledge of these ???

2 pointsI was going to recommend the same, anything you do without professional supervision could have detrimental results. Trust your body, something isn't right. Coming from a man that did get checked many times because things that were going on that didn't seem right. For ten years, I thought I was going out of my mind, nope finally was diagnosed with MS.

2 pointsI have to respectfully sideways not necessarily agree.... To a point... It definitely depends on the person and their medical health or pre-existing conditions. IIFF. That's a BIG IIFF.... One is healthy and in good shape overall, fasting can and does slow your metabolism - For a day or two at maximum. Then it can actually speed up your systems because the human body in it's ancient form did NOT get 3 meals a day. We got food when we got food like any other herbivore. Some days all day long. Some days (or more) none at all. We needed the sped up increased energy us to go get more food. It's a built in part of our survival mode. As "modern" humans we only got to 3 regulated food intake times because the industrial revolution a few hundred years ago forced the masses into it. Even today, independent scheduled folk that don't follow a forced schedule such as that believe falsely that we need to do it.

2 pointsI had trouble keeping weight on. Getting hurt at work solved my problem. Your health depends a lot on your mental state. I always tried to be a tough guy and tell myself that was BS. Thankfully with age comes wisdom. I’ll be looking to do something different in the future going forward myself, a job ain’t worth all that. But by just really limiting your sugar and carb intake and exercise you can achieve desired weight. It can be rather boring at times but remember it’s all in your head. Well most of it even if your belly says otherwise. Good luck!

2 pointsLast week Thursday at 8 pm, I finished dinner after Rylee’s wrestling practice. I didn’t end up eating anything solid until 10 am on Saturday. Friday was a bear. My gut hurt and growled, but I still had energy. It was not horrible, but it wasn’t great. Saturday, I woke up with the intention to keep going, but Mrs. P asked me to eat something, to work my way into the 3 day goal. So, I did not succeed at my goal. I got far, and was able to keep my goal for another time. This week, I’ll do intermittent fasting. The body takes about 4 hours to digest and sort out a meal. Eating every 4-6 hours during the day, it never quits storing and sorting. I’ll be eating only during a 7 or 8 hour period this week and Sunday morning (Saturday night) I’ll begin my 3 day quest.

2 pointsGood support network!!! Nicely done Kevin! It will serve her well in life on all levels...

2 pointsEric, I want to put my 2¢ in on the engine RPM. There's a lot of splishing and splashing going on even at idle. Think about how many times a second that dipper is grabbing oil. Plenty to keep things lubricated and plenty of air movement too. Back in the 60's and 70's my Dad would pull the kids, little and big, with his one lung Kohler. His property had some hills and he would chug up and down just barely above idle. Sometimes it seemed like a challenge to him to see how much he could pull before he had to rev is up a bit. Sometimes he killed it before he could get her revved. He did that for many many years until I took over and do the same. Never had an issue. I'm not suggesting doing that but I am saying that I simply don't buy into the 'must run at high RPM' crowd.
-
2 pointsYup. I built a couple of Hublies in the early '70s. I would not call them kits for beginners. The model A kits will go together easier than the Packards.
-
2 pointsI haven't seen any difference In the the 300 and 400 metal fender pans. My 520-H and 312-8 look the same
-
2 pointsYes these you have to file some of the metal. The kits come with a small file and a screw driver. I looked some up and yes they are bringing some good money as compete kits not so much when assembled. I know he would love trying to do one. He is a master at Legos and his father's family own a HUGE automobile salvage business in our area. Instead of giving them all to him maybe start with just one.
-
2 pointsoh…. Nothing much! The visual axle and front frame differences made a huge steering radius improvement!
-
2 pointsI believe from the factory there’s one wire that runs over the top of the gas tank and the lights are grounded through the fender pan.
-
2 pointsHad the 418-C out this afternoon to haul some firewood. Almost headed back to the house when I thought “Hey it’s side shot Sunday!”
