10 pointsTrina's been working from home 2 to 4 days a week and that's become a permanent thing. She got herself a more "work-friendly" laptop that's been VERY nice because she can be anywhere in the house building upstairs or down and even outside to an extent. She needed a better holding platform for it... Now, if you're a Trina, it can't just be any old flat place. Likely you'd want to make something out of "reclaimed/ future projects" type scrap pile wood ... And ..... It has to be well... Different. Like her. 😜 So ya do the usual poking around the web and see what's out there. She found this: VERY cool.... Here's her interpretation: 1. Diagonal lines. 2. Boxes in the corners, Line down one half. That gives you 14 sections. This amount can be variable. 3. See below. In each section, start in one corner. Draw a line slightly angled to any edge, as seen in the above pic. Top left. Then from that stopping point draw a line slightly angled to the next edge. Repeat.Repeat.Repeat.Repeat.Repeat..... Until you have no more space on that section. Depending what corner your start in determines the pattern you end up with. Shade in and round off corners that look like they go together. The above drawing is on standard 8-½ x 11 paper. It took her about 20 minutes. Voila !! The piece is a 19" ish square cabinet door that some of you may remember she got in a pile of neat little partially cut stuff from the neighbor who had unfortunately lost her husband and we helped out by cleaning up her yard. Use what ya have !! It'll get legs of some sort soon....... To be continued.....

6 pointsDid a little more research. '65-'67 Hydro models used a spider gear differential (Something new that I learned today.) They did not have a LSD '68 Hydro models switched to a 10 pinion planetary differential with the tension spring for LSD. Out of time to research, but I'm going to guess that the LSD was dropped when they switched to an 8 pinion planetary diff.

5 pointsPut a side mirror on the snowblower cab. Bought a set of UTV mirrors and 3d printed a bracket for mounting. Made one, works good, now printing one for the other side.

5 pointsTo my knowledge, none of the hydros Eaton or Sundstrand have an LSD (limited slip differential). Some of the gear drive 8 speeds do have LSD. If the LSD is still functioning, they should have less one wheel spin. IMO, the hydro is the best because of having infinite speed control with engine at WOT. The exception would be when using a tiller where the tiller is pushing the tractor. The gear drive will hold back the tractor better than the hydro. The hydro also requires 1-2 HP to operate the pump, so this is loss the gear drive does not have. So yes, tires, chains, and weight are the items that determine traction. Now that I think about it, all other things being equal,if the hydro weighs more than the gear drive, it could have better traction.

4 pointsThe belt guard must be in place as the lip on the bottom of the belt guard supports the slack belt helping to prevent it from grabbing the engine pully. There may also be an angled clip on the idler pulley that must be adjusted so it pinches the belt when the clutch disengaged. There also could be wire clips on the front and back side of the engine pulley that when adjusted properly will help to stop the slack belt from contacting the engine pulley. There is nothing inside the transmission that you can disengage. You MUST stop the belt from moving before changing gears. Do not attempt to put in gear with the belt moving....you will damage the transmission. to the Pete.

4 pointsHave you put the belt guard back on? The belt guard has some guides that hold the beltoff of the engine pulley when the clutch is disengaged. Without the belt guard, the belt will still rest in the engine pulley enough that it will turn the transmission input shaft and prevent the gears from shifting.

4 pointsI mostly have hydro's myself but grew up on a farm driving tractors and I can tell you that tires and weight are the two biggest things for traction.

4 pointsIf a set of points have pitted to the point you need to file the they need replacement. I do use a contact burnishing tool on points that are on an engine that has been sitting unused for a while or a new set of points to remove oxidation. Also good for S/G voltage regulator points.

3 pointsMy current parts washer is a 5 gallon bucket with a couple of gallons of diesel and if needed a large metal wash tub. I currently reuse the diesel to help spray or burn mesquite brush at the farm. So my son replaced his dishwasher. The old one works, just wasn't cleaning good anymore. I had cleaned the filter on it, but she who rules his house was ready for a new one. It is 8 years old, so it might die tomorrow, or run for years. Parts washers today are using water based cleaners and I think I have enough misc. parts to make it pump out into a tank. I think I also have some heavy gravel shaker screen that could be a bottom shelf. Google says an average dish washer uses 6 gallons of water and a new one uses less that 4 gallons of water. So give me your thoughts. What water based solvent do you use in your parts washer? Maybe build a wood frame to put dishwasher on top of a tank, then a parts washer type pump to resupply resettled solvent/water back to dishwasher How could I set up a tank for the crud to settle and reuse the solvent/water off the top or cheaply filter it for reuse How do you keep metal parts from rusting when using a water based solvent? Does the solvent have something in it that prevents rust. Am I just being lazy or crazy?

3 pointsOne of the selling points of the dishwasher detergent pods that I use is that they clean dishes really well and are also cootie resistant.

3 pointsDishes come out so much cleaner if you use heat and dry option. Dry dishes sitting in machine have a better chance of not picking up cooties!

3 pointsUpdate: my dad took apart the carb and said it looked fine (ie no varnish or gunk) so he reassembled it. Ed, I sent the points info from you to my dad and he's digging into it. Hopefully that will help it run much better than the current sputtering. I wonder how many sets of points he's changed in his life. Probably hundreds. Jim, I agree 100% on ethanol free fuel. I run it in all my small equipment but my Dad can't find it in his area so I need to help him locate a station with it so he can reap the benefits. He's religious about draining the bowls and running things dry at the end of the season, though, so that helps immensely. After the carb was rebuilt, the Wheel Horse never had fuel in the bowl until a couple months ago when he was trying to get it started. I'll send an update on the points whenever I get one. Thank-you all again for all the help and advice, I really appreciate all of you.

3 pointsThanks to all for input/information. I tend to agree w/SylvanLake in regards to ground speed & implement speed. As in any case more hp is almost always better but one can smartly use what horsepower available. I have a plow blade but it doesn't take long for me to run outta room to put snow. My C105 is a 8speed

3 pointsThere is definitely much more to know about the numerous different types of sandpaper. Its a big subject deserving its own thread. Many types of abrasives are used for many different applications. Wood and metal usually require different specialized types depending also on the application. In this instance anything 400 and over with Aluminum Oxide will be preferable .

3 pointsThis is why I only use 3M paper. It cost more but it stays sharp and last longer. Actually think I come out money ahead cause I'm not changing sand paper after a few swipes.

3 pointsI'm fairly new to the Wheel Horse community. I got started in with this crazy bunch about 6 or 7 years ago I guess? Up until a couple years ago ALL of the tractors in our Herd were gear drive. At that time I got my first Hydro which was a 1970 Charger with Hydro lift. I only bought it because it was a Hydro lift. When I started getting into the mechanical aspects of it I found out that there were late 60s, early 70s Hydro tractors with a similar 10 pinion setup to the six speeds Trina likes so much. I liked the fact that it had the limited slip quite a lot but I didn't keep the tractor because it was very worn out. During the automatic restoration that I'm doing right now I would have liked very much to add the Limited Slip Differential while I was in there but I decided that since this particular tractor is going to be SO HEAVY it would be better with the much more Stout 8-speed 8 pinion.

3 pointsI use 800 grit crocus cloth which is similar to emery cloth but has brown or rust colored abrasive.

3 pointsLiquid fill your tires and hang some wheel weights on the wheels or any other rear weight and you will notice a big difference.

3 points@gt14rider Is in the middle of doing a 1973 with Limited Slip right now. I've been into the transmissions of at least half a dozen 1974 and 5 and they all have regular 8-speed 8 pinion.

3 pointsJust for info purposes - I took apart a Bronco 14 that had a 10 pinion LSD diff in it. The Charger 12 is listed as having the same set up. 3 pointsBeen a lot of logic and suggestions so far. I personally have only ever used sand paper, 400 to 600grit wet sand paper followed by a couple swipes with a dollar bill. Never had an issue with my method.

2 pointsWell today we joined the loader club. The boys and I did a 5 hour round trip run to the eastern part of the state to pick up this loader. Still unsure of what tractor we are going to put it on and it’s going to need a couple hoses replaced before it’s usable. Boys are super excited and both want it on one of my tractors so they both can use it some day. Will need some pictures of the front end and how the rods attach at some point. It came with the sub frame and a weight box.

2 pointsI don't know but I have a 1979 c-101 that I bought new and has had one set of points and condenser in its life. I can not remember cleaning the points more than 1 or 2 times. This tractor has alotttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt of mowing and snow plowing time on it. Have I just been lucky or what. I have never had a lot of issues with points or condensers.I would not hesitate to use 400 600 wet dry paper for cleaning points if needed. Bob

2 pointsMostly buttoned up. The soffit needs finishing on a warmer day. Cutting the plastic pieces in the cold is never fun. I added proper blocking where necessary and replaced the fascia board. Then I replaced the drip edge and fascia. I left a gap at the bottom of the board to allow for soffit to fit in the channel. It’ll shed water, and that was my goal for the day!

2 pointsTwo are now done. Removed them a little earlier from form since it is pretty warm in here and it’s curing fast. They will be dressed to about 2/3 of their width. Have enough material milled for two more this way they will already be done for the next one. On the trial runs I leave them in form overnight. When removed for glue they will already keep 50% of the tight bottom curve which makes it a lot easier and faster on the glue up. It had been a few years since I used this form, so waxed parts were not as slippery as they should have been . It wasn't a problem but decided to cover it with the 3M blue tape which has a very slippery surface . Forgot to mention that for something like this or somewhat complicated requiring long glue open time, I use Elmer's Glue All White glue. It has the longest open time of any glue of this type out there.

2 pointsI have used single stage short and tall chute blowers on 12 and 20 HP tractors to move some heavy deep snows. Based on my experience, a hydro transmission is a necessity to effectively operate a single stage. The blower must be operated at wide open throttle and the ground speed must be continually varied to keep the blower full of snow to prevent clogging. This can only be done with a hydro. The 12HP hydro is the bare minimum. More HP is much better. A 520H w/tall chute working it's way thru some 5' drifts.

2 pointsMy Sundstrand Automatic 1975 C160 is a good strong 50 lb heavier than the comparable 8-speed. Traction is noticeably better. As stated by Dan above. There were some late '60s? Definitely early 70s hydros with 10 pinion Limited Slip Differential.

2 pointsDon't know if the seals are going to like the fluid or the grease. Probably as bad as 5 Alarm chili. You are missing thr heater portion - the dishwasher uses hot water to get the cooking grease film off the dishes. There are a few good YT videos showing adding an electric tank heating pad to the underside of a HF parts cleaner to get improved grease removal. Bill
