Got a delivery of a commando 8, 1045 today . The 1045 hands down has to be one of the best restorations I’ve yet to see .

Pulled this one out in some work space today. It amazed me and started and ran good. Even took some seat time on it. Got it back in the shop and would barely idle. Putting a Novar ignition on it see if that helps. Wanted this gal to be on on show circuit this year but may go down the road if she don't start seeing things my way... Clinton B1290 and all original.

We got a little bit of snow we didn’t know about and I wanted to plow but my 604 wouldn’t start.Me and my dad pulled the hood off and took the spark plug out and cleaned it and then I tried but didn’t start. We kept trying and it finally started but every time I gave it throttle it would start hunting for rpm.but I managed to plow the driveway.

I built a tire changer that mounts in the hitch receiver on my truck, changed a tire, and put it on my C-160. I know that Harbor Freight has a nice mini changer for around $30 or so but our dog had to have emergency surgery yesterday to the tune of over $1200. I had the metal already and time to make it.

May go look at this one for what the guy's askin. Dan seems to think it has a peerless tranny. Note the "extra" one in the pic. Peerless for a vert fer sure. The write up... THIS TRACTOR HAS A REBUILT K161 ENGINE. NOT UP AND RUNNING. 2 HOODS NOT PICTURED. EXTRA TRANSAXLE AND OTHER PARTS. MOWER DECK IS NOT ATTACHED. ALL OF THIS IS SOLD AS ONE PACKAGE. @Achto @Pullstart Pics

I know that reading instructions is not a manly thing to do but some times it comes in handy. In the Kohler engine service manual Disassembly section they tell you to save the gaskets between the block and bearing plate, measure them and record the measurement so you replace them with the correct shim gaskets then check the clearance.

Sorry to hear about your pup, glad he’s doing better now. I had to use my homemade tyre/tire changer that attaches to the car the other day when I got a puncture, (car, not horse). I couldn’t break the bead on one side, (alloy wheel). Didn’t want to damage the wheel by hammering a tyre lever in. Then I had a @peter lena moment, “LUBE IT”. A quick squirt of the infamous “WD 40”, a couple of minutes later and the bead broke as easy as anything! And I have the proper tyre lube/soap for removal/installation, but it’s not much use until the bead is broken! The spray penetrated immediately. Your use of the clamps is a great idea, I have similar ones, the fixed ends are removable , they just unclip and can be reversed and fitted at the other end of the rail so they push outwards, they worked a treat to spread and hold the tyre walls apart for better access inside for the repair. I've seen a couple that might warrant "trailer use only", but all of mine get worked too!

I got quite a fair amount done today. Spent late morning until well after 7 PM putterin' around the basement workshop. A little cleaning. A little organizing. Did some project assessment and readjusted the to-do list. The transmission is all bolted together. These are the rear bracket locking levers. Both were bent the same direction so it's likely some PO got a foreign object bashed around back there. The Paint Department cleaned em up and I straightened them out beat we could with hammah and vise/anvil. Big project for today was using this drawing and the bare frame for lineup to make these rear frame braces. I happened to have about 18" of 1/8" x 2" angle here. Certainly need more... @OldWorkHorse maybe you can get some? Notched and holes marked. Here they are in mock up. I'll leave the excess sticking out the bottom on the sides because I may very well run a piece of strap steel forward for more strength.

Well we have a runner. Needs a lot of attention but we have heard her make noise so we can move forward from here. Had to swap out the coil and install a new set of points to get her to run. Fuel pump I'm sure is no good, and the carb needs some serious work. Bad oil leak coming from behind the fuel pump as well. Was hoping to do a full will it start video, filmed a bunch of it but when I went to put it all together the noise in the background was unbearable...gotta love 45 mph Oklahoma winds. But I did salvage this clip 1067

Hi folks this is our fleet of snow equipment , now all we need is some snow in Vermont, we're missing about minus15 inches so far! The best snow equipment is on the far left! C-85

I bought this Swisher lawn mower about 6yrs ago for around $50 as a non runner and have been using it as my main grass cutter ever since. Stuck a few bucks into it here & there but no major issues until last summer. By the end of last summer it served as a mower as well as a mosquito fogger for the neighborhood. Tonight I took a little time "20 min" that is and pulled the glob of grease engine out. Being as it took so long to pull, it didn't hardly pay to turn the heat on in the garage. Figured that as long as I am rebuilding a K241 Kohler for my 953, I might as well have 2 engines apart & rebuild this one as well.

Piece of bacon tied to the trap with sewing thread. I have never had an empty trap for long and they can’t take the bait and run off. Everyone loves bacon 👍

With 20 WHs 3 big tractors and two mil vehicles (lock ring wheels) I have done a lot of tire work over the last 20 years. Had the small HF Changer longer than that. Big HF changer bolted to piece of plywood, Use a KT17 on one end I stand on the other. Pull it out to an open area to use it drag it back when I am done. Have a serious bead breaker for recalcitrant tires...

I had that same thought when I mounted mine to the floor but then I got thinking about all the people in the world that own exercise equipment they never use and I just started stacking stuff on top of it. 😂

First picture is last years line up. The 753 only saw one storm of action while then big 2 stage never came out. this year the 2 stage is on my Bronco 14 and the boys have each put snow plows on their 604 and 856. They plowed one small storm if an inch or so. I won’t complain if that’s all we get.

Sorry to hear about your pup. I had one of those tire changers from harbor freight and it was horrible. Yours looks like it works much better.

I looked at those, wasn't sure how well they would fit on the wider rims. For right around 90 bucks for a pair of them I'd say they're worth a try. As far as HiRuns for the rear, I have no issue with them, I've been running HiRuns in 23x10.50-12 on the rear of my C125 the whole time I have owned it and have not had any issues. The ones on the 125 are loaded, and I have never had a problem with traction no matter what I'm doing

We had a snow storm come sneaking in last night. About 2 inches of snow. Aiden took his 856 and plowed for my dad. Alex handled my driveway but I will let him tell you. Aiden also finally installed his stack I got him for Christmas on his 856. It sounds pretty sweet.

Is that a Simplecity seat @Achto? If not reminds me of one. Nevermind the rims Pullhosen... I just remembered I have some on a parts tractor so the tens are yours. Plan might be to swap with those with the house mule Raider 12 I am going to let go which has ags and weights on it. Maybe plow with no name just for the halibut & fun and to say we plowed with a small block. Maybe tie a 8 in Brinly on?!?! Talked with the seller tonite and he now realizes that the Peerless doesn't belong with it. He says he didn't want to run the motor cause he didn't have the air cleaner for it. Pssst I thought when did this bother us. Also the old timer that did the rebuild died and he didn't want to mess with it. I know a guy I told him.

In 1973 they had different 8 4-speeds. The ones with the Kohler horizontals had the unidrives and the ones with the Tecky verticals had the Peerless.............I think.

I watched “Taryl Fixes All” on YouTube tonight . I seen @Pullstart ‘s “Snowmotractor” on the cover of Lawn and Garden Tractor magazine that Taryl was reading, and I believe Taryl was reading the article on it because I seen it in the centerfold I think. That’s a trip ! Oops… didn’t mean to repost…

My house was built in1830 and has a stone foundation, some is only three feet high. I've insulated the floors with foam boards and spray foam. That's made a big difference on heating and the amount of mice we have. I guess mice don't like spray foam, I keep traps set Year round. I'll get a few then nothing for a while. Have barn cats for the barn. It's a constant battle, not feeding the birds helps keep the mice and bears away.

Interesting the k161 is rebuilt, but not up and running. Definitely need to find out more about seller definition of “rebuilt”

I measure the gaskets/ spacers but then measure the end play.

Looks just like the Commando 800 (horizontal shaft and Unidrive) that I picked up at auction a few years back. I just think the seller has no idea that Peerless doesn’t belong in the bunch.

I use a pallet, but then my expletives are up to date. I just didn't want that wart standing in the way for use once per year, and that would need another set of expletives every time it got in the way.

The clearance does 2 things. 1. it sets the front bearing and seal in the proper location on the crank. 2. too tight a clearance will cause extra side load on the bearings and crank thrust surface. Too loose and the crank can move back and forth hammering the bearings and causing side stress on the rod and wrist pin as well as potentially cracking the bearing bosses.

Sally... ags were made to be caked with mud. You would surely win the pink hitch pin with that kinda remark at plow day but none of that other stuff. Tell ya what Sparky head up stream... they'll clean themselves.

This evening I got the transmission all set to hang on the frame next time we're in the shop. I put the hubs on the transmission and held the "key side" set screw tight while I marked the place of the "shaft side" set screw by running it in several times to bite the axle. I then removed the hub and ground a flat in the axle for the set screw to set at on in ... Ran a chase down through the wheel stud holes to clean the paint etc out of the threads. Installed the 10 lug bolts. 7/16"-20 x 1-1/2" I think...? Finished putting in the 4 set screws. All tightened up. Ready!! Pulley has its white clothes on. Seat pan forward support bracket in place. Hood bottom hinges on. We put the frame reinforcements in that I made up yesterday afternoon. All puurty red painted. Trina worked more at cleaning up the transmission pump. Looks like a CR 7479 seal. (??)

Yep... need to herd more over from MN tho... Gotta be one of the ones with the Kohler Bob ... 1-0370?? ain't figured out why the seller says 161 tho. Find out gonna go get it next week for a franklin. 'Bout time I got a good deal with the beating I'm taking on a 1054.... He's gonna send me the numbers on the tag.
