9 pointsFinally got my dad’s C-175 out and returning it to original. It’s the one in my avatar but he had changed a bit since the picture and by the time I got it. It will be going back to Florida next month and my son will get it. Maybe he’ll get the bug and restore it one day.

8 pointsHere's the engine and NOS light kit obtained right here at the square from a fellow member
-
8 pointsDecided to get everybody out for some run time today move the oils around - quiet winter they’ve been sitting about 3 months 416 - 8 sporting a K341 with the tall chute - 315-8 has the blade - C- 101 back is on light duty , her job is just to look pretty
-
7 pointsI just want to take a second to give props to everyone here at Red Square and say Thank you - without all of you I would never have been able to rebuild that transmission or three - find that transmission half case - cluster gear - manuals -NOS part etc etc etc - this forum has been an integral part I think on all our journeys keeping these machines rolling and working
-
7 pointsHere we go - this started out as Dads ( RIP ) tractor turned into my tractor in '94 when I built the house - gave me a good 12 years service after his 15 - sporting a .30 piston these days I rebuilt it the 3rd time . I'm gonna carpet bomb you guys a little .....this was the start
-
7 pointsCause JD or not, we had to know more about the mini lowboy too!

7 pointsCleaned the dust and cobwebs off the tractors, because they have been sitting so long without use. Barely have moved them in months, it seems like. So far it's been a rather uneventful year for us here in the Finger Lakes, in terms of snow, and cold. Which has been a good thing with the way fuel prices are.

7 points@LagersolutI’d, wait WE would like to see some pictures of your C-101 please!

6 pointsThis morning my daughter called and said her old kenmore dryer stop working, so I headed over there once the sun got a little higher and the temp was about 60 degrees. Multimeter says power going in is okay, check the thermal fuse, bad, I told her to find a local appliance parts store on her phone while I clean all lint out of it. Find out there is only one that sells to the public in Pensacola Fl. (not a small town) and he is an hour and fifteen minutes round trip away. Call him, he's doesn't have one but can get one by Wed. (two days) for $10.00. My daughter orders one on from Amazon, two days delivery for $5.89. Twenty five years age I would of spent about thirty minutes picking up one at my Sears store or the Sears warehouse part store, a number of appliance stores or must hardwares, installed it and put the dryer back together in less than thirty minutes and she'd be drying clothes. I just had to vent to somebody who gets it, wife doesn't want to hear it anymore.
-
6 pointsDid the concept of lint accumulation being a potential fire hazard come up in conversation? Years back I put a jumper in my neighbor's dryer, showed him where the new fuse link would go and headed home while they did the laundry. A couple of weeks later I asked if he had gotten the fuse link and installed it. "No, dryer works fine since you fixed it". I removed the jumper and reminded him the link is there for a reason.

6 pointsDid a little taxidermy repurposing. I buy these old mounts for cheap at auction for the form, eyes, and ear liners that I reuse to mount my deer. These items cost well over $100 bucks today. The antlers are sold to crafters that make knife handles, chandeliers, etc. Takes me about an hour to disassemble one.
-
6 pointsCongratulations Kevin !!!! Unlike these poor souls you made it. Only one question. Why is it going to take 2 months to read an article about a tractor that only took 2 weeks to build ????
-
6 pointsI agree with others on the suggestion to use plastigage to check clearance (.001 to .002) of the rod to crank. As for the dark areas of the rod not contacting the crank I suspect that has been that way for the entire life of the engine. I see no way that unusual wear could occur leaving that type of signature. The majority of the rod is making contact and those dark areas are near the edge probably allowing more oil to splash into the clearance between the rod and crank. The rod and crank look smooth and have no evidence of uncharacteristic wear pattern so they should be fine.

6 pointsFound some what of a pic ...laying on the seat spring 702 build. There's a pin that locks the two pieces together. The pin also goes into the other spring hole to prevent pivoting. Just remembered I have a set earmarked for the 701 build. BTW @Achto last set i have things get a little slow at work...

5 pointsMy wife’s Uncle recently went through chemo radiation for brain cancer. He is still smart as a whip and in remission, but has lost much of his eyesight and hearing. He’s got a 42 and 43 Jeep, and a ‘55 CJ5 as well. He needs to be with someone most all times, and can’t drive. We’re going on a trail ride with the ‘55 today. It should be a good time!

5 pointsMoving along on this project. Welded up the one corner that was bad on the hood. Patched the hole that a PO had cut for I'm assuming an exhaust stack. Then after many taps with a hammer & dolly I was able to get the hood to fit on the tractor like it should. Pulled the head off to find a nice surprise. Everything was super clean with a puddle of oil on top of the piston. Not a good thing.. The cylinder walls are polished to a chrome like finish and there is a nice ridge at the top. Knowing what needed to be done I proceeded to tear the engine down for rebuilding. After measuring it looks like .020 over on the cylinder and a stock rod should set things back in order. In the back ground of this pic you can also see that I was able to get some blasting done as well.

5 pointsI added a fuel filter and check valve that a member recommended. Did I do it well enough? The plastic tank is fairly new on the new to me C-160 but there was a small amount of stuff in the bottom. It has a fine gold colored screen that should keep it out until I clean it out next time it runs out of fuel. The new in-line filter came from isavetractors.com and was described as "2 Pack - Inline fuel filter for fuel systems using fuel pumps and 1/4" ID fuel line." Even after I put it on line and was running it the filter didn't have a solid column of fuel in it; that normal? I was careful to make sure that both were not touching anything that could cause a vibration wear point. I assumed that all of these are engineered to not restrict fuel flow too much for normal operation. I tried to put the check valve between the fuel pump and carb' but couldn't squeeze it in. I figured that it was beneficial as the carb' is above the fuel tank level and that it could go almost anywhere in the line.

4 pointsYep had the conversation and showed them how to clean it out with the shop vac they have. Told them since you have a dog that sheds a lot living in the house and sleeping on the bed, don't get me started on that, they need to clean it out every couple of years. When I got there I said at least you unplugged it before taking it apart, she looked at me and said I'm not rubber head Fred, ahh the things they do remember you saying growing up.

4 pointsIt has to be a METRIC Cresent wrench tho... otherwise they will sprout SAE. Always important... fertilize with cast filings.

4 pointsHello All, So you guys saw the post from @Sparky about me giving him the clean B80 to take care of. Well in some interesting turn he had an 876 that he bought for the plow, iron weights and rear bracket. He didnt like the tractor in the end and offered it to me first. He ended giving it to me and besides needing a new throttle cable the thing runs great, starts great, looks Ok with its paint brush repaint and has ZERO leaks--amazing for a hydro filled with ATF (thin oil!!) . I dunno what my plan is but I have 3 or 4 1960s vintage 32" (I think...) snow throwers and I may throw one on. I had a Commando with a 32 way back and it did a decent job surprisingly enough Thanks Tony 20230108_085158.mp4 20230108_085043.mp4 20230108_085158.mp4

4 pointsWait. You actually should be very proud. Your daughter did the unthinkable... she called someone with brains, asked them to look at it, took the advice given and is fixing it!!! Kudos to you and your daughter!!! Most common reaction now is to the curb with it and new one gets delivered... Now as for parts stores etc... that just sucks.

4 points@Pullstart maybe you should have gone bus shopping in the UP. That got 4WD busses up there..... Mrs. 8N says she realizes rutting season was recent, but does not think making bus ruts in the field was what rutting was all about.

4 pointsWell only two things can happen then... 1 Make a convert out of her 2 More rounders for us

4 pointsI would just add a "locker" on the hitch / receiver. simply presses the hitch to the receiver, eliminating bounce rattle and roll... Made mine in about 5 minutes out of some w section scrap post and a single u bolt... it really works well...

4 pointsThere’s a pretty decent trail system about 20 minutes south of my place. He’s 30 minutes south east, with no direct path there. I did lots of map studying last night so we don’t get lost getting lost!

4 pointsWelcome to Red Square. Here is a link to what we have for the 268-H. The serial number along with the model number determines the model year. 3 pages of search results that are in no particular order so look through them all. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?q=268-h&quick=1&type=downloads_file There are 5 different model numbers over 7 model years

4 pointsvoith hydro factory tour in york pa video - Search (bing.com) Here is a short video of the "now" Voith Hydro Turbine plant in York,Pa. There are few "then" shots when it was Allis Chalmers. Sorry to go off topic, but many do not know Allis Chalmers was a world leader in the design and manufacturing of massive hydro turbines and generators. The Grand Coulee Francis Turbines that were developed in the lab with a 300HP model produced just over 1,000,000 HP each.

4 pointsSome thing to add to your arsenal one day. Maybe not the best quality sets if you are a machinist, but they will be good enough to let you know what's going on & what you need for parts. https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=telescoping bore gauge https://www.vevor.com/outside-micrometers-c_10820/vevor-outside-micrometer-premium-precision-carbide-tips-machinist-tool-0-4--p_010689764898?utm_source=google&utm_campaign=18457895227&utm_term=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1OuP8bG6_AIVhxfUAR0I8gmzEAQYBSABEgLkV_D_BwE&v_tag=7ec532d0-9011-11ed-ac31-9daacb9ce42b.1

4 pointsThank you for posting that! Very interesting! I recently went to Appleton, Wisconsin to the Pierce fire truck factories. Just when you think things like that aren’t going on in America anymore, they are! I was also there around 15 years ago and the factory has definitely grown since. They let us walk through the entire facility and it was truly amazing. We saw trucks going from concept to completion. Other manufacturers are there as well, Oshkosh, Miller welders and many others. As we were leaving I was happy to see this facility thriving and thought THIS is America. People like this and the people in that video are what help make America great. God bless our great country 🇺🇸

4 pointsIf you pulled the piston out of the cylinder. Are you goin to run a ball hone through the cylinder and put some new rings in? Once you pull a piston out, the rings will not seat again. When I was a Harley mechanic I changed a lot of cylinder base gasket on Evo engines. I would pull the cylinder up until I could access the wrist pin. If I could remove the wrist pin with out letting the rings come out the bottom of the cylinder then it only got new gaskets. If the rings came out or the bottom of the cylinder then it had to be re-scuffed and new rings installed. I did way more than 100 of these jobs, most of the time I did not have to put new rings in.

3 pointsYou clearly have not met Aiden. He lives and breathes baseball. He’s already hounding me to bring him to the indoor field house at my work so he can get a jump on the spring season. He’s been hooked since t-ball. He’s 13 and playing middle school, summer travel team and tournament teams then fall baseball. He’s small for his age but he’s an incredible player with heart and drive and an arm like a rocket. He’s made it further than I ever did in sports. He excels as a 2nd baseman but has a strong enough arm to throw runners out at second while playing catcher and pitches. Plus knows every other position and can fill in anywhere else he may be needed. Alex on the other hand plays baseball and could really care less if he does or not. He has the potential to be better than Aiden but he just plays spring and that’s it. Alex would rather be at the engine show.

3 pointsIt is perfectly normal for the filter not to fill. You can’t see it, but the tube leaving the upper end of your filter sticks down into the body to just about where the fuel level is now so it can’t draw the air out any lower. All looks good from the images. Nice work
