For the past three years, during the winter months I've been double smoking bacon. It started when one of my wife's customers gave us so smoked bacon as a "thank you" for my wife helping them. It was the best tasting bacon I had ever eaten so after some studying and internet searching I came across some guys that double smoke bacon. From what I understand, the "smoked bacon" we buy is actually chemically smoked. I guess it's injected with liquid like Liquid Smoke or something. Basically I use pellets for smoking and a smoke generator attached to a 4" flex pipe into an old Brinkman smoker. I usually smoke three pounds at at time for 1 1/2 or 2 hours then package it and put in freezer. The bacon is cold smoked so it is not ready to eat and still must be cooked. I like to smoke the bacon when the temperature is in the 30's or so. Something to do during cold winter months.

Bartered for a C121 looks like a 1979. The hood says c121, fuel tank is under the seat and there is a 12hp motor. THe serial/model number on the frame by the motor is 91-08k801 which comes back to a c81? so was the only difference on the c81 and c121 the motor? I am still cleaning things up to get a better idea of what I have. So far it looks better than my Sears l1000 mowers. I can assure you the steering is much stronger.

I had fun with a grader blade once. Borrowed it from my buddy. Definitely could use one of my own some day. But then again we have a fancy laser guided one at work to go on our skid steer that I can borrow any time. Just a little big for most projects here at the homestead.

Not any more. Used to help butchering hogs on grandpa's farms and the farm dad bought and where was row crop. Mince meat pie, cracklings,--makes my double smoked bacon kinda look pitiful. We lived on grandpa's farm for my first few years of life. Our house a log house (that someone had sided with clapboard siding). It had three rooms, living room, upstairs a bed room and a kitchen was built on in the back with small open porch mom would wash clothes on. Somewhere I have a picture of me and my little brother in the living room sitting in a galvanized tub we took baths in. Right behind our house was grandpa's smoke house. It was the scariest place on earth to me as a child. There were steps leading up to the wooden structure and it was dark as pitch inside with a hole in floor towards the back that surely led to Hades. That hole was where the smoky fire was built. Grandpa hired me and a friend right out of high school to tear the old house down. He ran a log chain through a couple of windows, hooked tractor onto the chain with the idea of just pulling that old house down. That didn't work! I don't remember the particulars of how the house was finally destroyed but I now wish it had been preserved.

Great day! Everyone of these drove outa the shed on its own! They all fired up and ran good!

We just buy bacon at the store. Even the "cheap" bacon takes the smoke really well. I like the thick sliced bacon and wife like thin. Whoever does the buyin' gets to pick their preferred thickness. The bacon may darken a little but not much after I smoke it. It makes the house smell good after frying a skillet full. "Come on down!" I just took the pictures this morning.

My long time insurance agent, Mantze Miller, is 300 yds. down the road. We worked out 3 days a week at the Fitness Factory Gym till Mantze passed away a few years ago. There has never been an insurance agent in my home, even when I had a lightning strike that caused damage to breaker panels, appliances, garage door openers, TVs, etc. I submitted quotes from plumbers, electricians, appliance repair guys to Mantze and received a check in two weeks to cover everything. I guess it pays to shop local and know your Mom and Pop business owners.

How did the coins get past the inlet screen? I've laundered plenty of money but it was just always laying on the bottom of the drum. I would thunk they got in the pump they would busted off most likely plastic impellers. I'm on track for 20 years but I don't want new big box junk. I just keep a wrenching on them as long as parts are NLA and affordable. Your crew T prolly does alot of wash tho. Tell her I got a line on one of these if she wants to upgrade... Yep... Dan & I know a guy... Ask her she prefers a metal or wooden tub?... Hit n miss or Maytag?!?

Down here the meat source is a 210 to 300 lb hog, not sure what it is up there.

Possibly that the steering could push past 90 and prevent smooth return is what @stevasaurus meant? Not like a tractor trailer jackknifing.

It could also make the steering such that the tractor could jack-knife if going full speed and topple it over. Most things are there for a reason, and it would be cheaper (for the factory) to not put them on.

I agree on the "GIFT" recommendations. Wives are a little touchy about those things. Once i told mine i got her a washer and dryer for Christmas. She asked where it was, I said, look under tree. I had wrapped a towel and washcloth. Didn't seem as funny to her! Definitely agree on repairing older appliances as long as possible.

Got a Maytag toploader and matching dryer at an auction for about $150. Washer just needed a water pump and drain vent total cost for parts about 50 bucks. Easy to work on $200 invested and works great

I have a Speed Queen top loader, my good friend has a Maytag top loader. They are the exact same machine with different decals on the control panel, and both made at Alliance Laundry in Ripon WI. Like a lot of appliances, there are about 3 or 4 manufactures and 20 different names.

I painted the 36" deck where I had primed it yesterday after my good friend welded up some stress cracks and built up a rusted area for me. I changed the oil on my new to me C-160 with the Shell Rotella T1 SAE 30 plus ZDDP supplement. Got some Non-E gas and added Stabil and B-12 to have on hand when I get everything back together. Still waiting on the input seal and drive belt from WheelHorcePartsAndMore. And I set the points based on the "S" mark on the fly wheel in the peep hole. I posted some questions in the Engine forum on that; advise would be appreciated on that.

Sounds like a good idea to me. The first thing I do with a newly acquired is give it an oil change. Never had one that had black oil but if I did a second oil change would be done.

Non ethanol gas is the ONLY option to keep the ethanol pearls out.

Spent some time in the garage this afternoon tearing into the carb on my Bronco 14. I ran it out of gas recently and it started running bad after that. I plan on using it for snow blowing so kinda need it running. I’ve opened the carb and successfully cleaned it from the top before. But after seeing how much ethanol jelly was on the inside I decided I better pull the engine shroud off and pull the whole intake off and clean it out the right way. Cleaned some of the gunk out of the cooling fins while I was in there and replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter. Put it back together and once it got gas it fired up and ran great. Even tho Alex is at his moms this weekend I kept him in the loop with pictures and video. Please show us some pictures of the front pulley mount (called a "Mule Drive") It does sit at an angle on the front of the tractor so it may not be bent! Lots of helpful people here, don't hesitate to ask any question!

Thanks eb, hoping the extra 300 lb on the rear will help with the wheel slip. Doesn't look like anything snow-wise to challenge it in the next two weeks.

Right, 1972 Super Beetle. I bought it new in Ellsworth, Maine for $2500 with the Formulas "V" shifter and the trailer hitch. Special Services had a Ski Boat that I would pull with it also. I loved that car...had it 11 years.

You take those stops off and you just may wind the steering gear off of the fan gear.

We bought washer dryer set about 10 years ago at Lowes. Mrs. Sylvan goes right to the non-digital, fewest knobs etc. machines... which coincidentally cost less and according to our salesman break down less... in her words - they need to spin, drain and dry... everything else is nonsense... Older salesman helping us whispered in my ear "you are one lucky man"... That I am, in more ways then I can count...

The only thing I would add to that is there are a bunch of small farm and small town auctions happening all the time. Grandma does not live forever, and she knows how to take care of her old appliances.Kids today want to start out with new junk and the old stuff is a steal and built much better Risk a hundred bucks at an auction sale and Grandma will smile down from heaven that her machine is serving a hard working family of good thrifty people.. I have never bought a new machine since our first one when we got married. Tenants leave them behind. My sister wants new stuff. That type of thing..My mom bought Norge. machines. They were tanks.

That's the going price for large appliances at my local weekly estate auction. Some are junk and some look like new. A good washer and dryer is on my watch list. My Whirlpool set is nearly 20years old.

If you do have to replace your washer, buy a Speed Queen top loader. Built like tank, and made in the USA. Best washer I've ever owned.

We had a POJ Maytag Bravos top loader for about 10 years. Never liked how it rinsed. Wound clothing into knots. Had to replace a fill solenoid about 3 years ago. It developed a small leak on big loads and got a growling noise. A week before Christmas I was trying to figure out what to get the wife and that growl finally put me over the edge. Went to Lowes and bought a front loader on sale for $700. 3 days later it's delivered. I get home and there is no owner's manual. I think that's weird. 2 weeks later when the little bit of snow melted I found it in the yard.

My insurance agent has a mowing service, just us peons mow and use little tractors. Do you think he would understand those of us that actually ? This is what working people do:

I had actually thought about mentioning that many agents use mowing services in my original comments. I know that agent that I have been supporting all these years hires a service to mow her BIG yard in front of her HUGE house. Years ago when I had access to wood and used wood to heat our house, I had a wood furnace that I burned hedge in. It was hot and made the prettiest white ashes. Nice warm heat especially when compared to electric heat pump. I like your wood splitter emoji!
