11 pointsjust got a nice card from my granddaughter , thanking us for , all our help and transportation drives. she likes the way we ask questions and make her responsible for things ,and ask her for insight / thought . likes my music collection down in the fly tying zone . likes grandmas cooking and learning how to make and bake things . also likes the way we emphasize , responsibility , accountability , what do you think ? card like that means a lot , she has been listening . being a grandparent is good stuff , the feed back is so worth it , give them a big hug , grandpa

9 pointsFinally had some colder night temps here over the weekend so set up the wall tent and got the wood stove going to start testing out the wood burn rates and getting a feel for what it will feel like at night. Went pretty well overall. Got down to 27 and I was comfortable inside in jeans and a t-shirt and stove wasn't even close to going full burn. I think we're good for a first hunt trip after Christmas. Tent size is a 10x20' morning eggs and coffee

7 pointsGood news everyone its sounding like i will get my tractor for Christmas

6 pointsFinally starting the restore on my 74 D200. I figure I will track my progress on here to share content and also benefit from the collaborative group should I find myself head scratching. Here is a pre-start pic and a few of my current progress.

6 pointswhen installing fuel line , typically , the fuel filters , connections, barbs are same size , found using correct size spring clamps and square ended linemen's plyers make that easy, cut your line , slide on the clamp , back 3-4 " so its out of the way . regularly use a tiny amount of dielectric grease on the barb ends , makes the connection simple easy . once done squeeze plyer clips back to connection . no leaks easy , pete

6 pointsIt’s getting close to being ready to ride I got the brake mount welded in and the master cylinder hooked up.
-
6 pointsThis picture shows just how "out of flat" a head can get and the need to plane or "reflatten" the head when replacing the head gasket.
-
6 pointsBest bet have battery load tested... Quick check hook up multimeter what is battery voltage?? then try cranking if voltage drops to 9 or below. bad or weak battery...
-
6 pointsI spent some time doing some fab work today. @WHX?? borrowed me a part so that I could copy it to replace a missing part on my tractor. A couple of pics of the new part next to the one that I copied. Made a puller for removing 4 bolt hubs. Destroyed a POS steering wheel in order to remove it from the tractor.

5 pointsAfter a storm like this past weekend naturally the trails will be needing some help. The end of this week looks like possibly rain and then a flash freeze, great, just what we need. Cabin still standing, brook flowing well.
-
5 pointsOn my way to the post office today at the airport I saw this, 2 Chinook's sitting on the runway. I live near a small village so it was quite surprising.
-
5 pointsI didn't know about the "drops below 9" thing. Both my John Deere 110 and the Wheel Horse B100 tested at 14v as they sit on the tester. I will go check and see what they both drop to when I try and start them. Thanks.

5 pointsFirst of all your new barn is beautiful. Second, new steel is like teflon, my neighbor had a new steel roof put on his garage & the first winter I heard a noise outside & looked just in time to catch the tail end of the avalanche as it buried my truck up to the mirrors in my yard ! It hasn't done it since, after a year or two the paint becomes more "sticky" & the snow doesn't slide as easily. You can put anti-slides on the eave but you don't want to let it build up either. This is a game I personally have never won, the garage doors are on the lee side of my barn so it always gets twice as much snow on it as the back. 1st pic. This is from the first day of the first snow we got this year a few weeks ago... This pic is from a couple of years ago... It had warmed up just enough while I was at work to do this, couldn't resist getting on a stepladder to get this pic before I knocked it down... I try to get rid of it as soon as it falls, otherwise it freezes solid or turns into a cement / slop mixture depending on temprature at which point I have to use my plow truck to move it. Either way it's seat time. The C-161 got a workout that night.
-
5 pointsNo worries... I have a finely patinaed one to use.. Will look nice with shiney red... Old and new???

4 pointsAin't there some rules or somethin' other about LSE's and feather dusting them after they're washed and waxed, and never never never actually like you know using them...???
-
4 pointsI got that same one Don... off FB and cringed. Whats worse is the whole tractor looked to be abused. Hopefully the Plunge knows better or I'll get BBT to open up a #10 can of whoop @$$ on him. I'm not even a LSE fan but i get it.
-
4 pointsThe C-160 got some love tonight, fresh Rotella T6, cleaned out gas tank, new grommet, new O ring in shut off valve, all new fuel lines, new fuel filter, new points & condensor. The C-161 with the snow blower is ready so the 160 will be the plow tractor this winter. The weather man is saying possible blizzard conditions Friday & Saturday here, getting the team ready...
-
4 pointsTested the 420 - LSE in the snow with no weights and chains. Didn't push my luck with it, just wanted to start it, and drive it to warm it up a bit. Snow pack was like cement.
-
4 pointsWould I be wrong in at least getting him a rattle can of regal?!? Must be really hard up for articles Kate ... Kev takes being ribbed very well... Looking forward to the issue and won't use it for TP like when @Achto had his features...
-
4 pointsNot enough to be an issue. I'm not sure exactly what the compression ratio of a K91 is supposed to be after doing a quick search, but skimming a few .001" off isn't going to hurt anything. If anything it'd probably give this old engine a little more spring in it's step. The manufacturer calls for 86 octane or higher so it's definitely not a high compression engine from the beginning. Some may want to go on about timing issues and such blah blah blah but on this engine it's not going to make any real notable difference. If one was to really mill the head down then yes eventually you'd run into issues with high compression...but what I've done is no different than the sand paper and piece of glass technique, I've just done it how it's done at the factory with a mill.

4 pointsYou’re the only source for OHV Tecky engines. What makes you think someone else would have carb stuff?

4 pointsWhen I mowed off my old daffodill stems this fall, I found an egg that I hid last Easter.

4 points@Pullstart the snow wheels on your wife's Surburban. Are they 16"? Here is what I did a few days ago. I've got a drafting project going, so I dug out my dad's old ca 1940 student drafting machine: And re-worked it so it would be more useful for making C sized drawings:
-
4 pointsThat's why I don't have anti-slides on mine, I have to rake mine because it's only a 6/12 pitch. Anything less than a 10/12 pitch where I'm at the snow will build up on it. All part of the fun of Michigan.
-
4 pointsOuch! Glad you are okay! There is no "legitimate" argument against seat belts after having been in law enforcement for over 30 years (in PA) . . . I've seen it all.

3 pointsMade a trip up to New Hampshire for some non-ethanol fuel from the pump. Here in Connecticut it’s only sold in stores and is $25-$30 a gallon!! Bought 28.5 gallons at $4.70 a gallon, plus drove 212 miles round trip in my Tundra getting just over 18 MPG…after calculating and adding in my truck fuel costs this non-ethanol fuel costs me $6.01 a gallon. I call that a win! (plus the NH Liquor store is kinda next door so I picked up something for myself)

3 points@Snoopy11 agree with the film , BTW the spring clamp I use on w/h fuel lines is the DARK GREEN size , its perfect on all my fuel lines , that dielectric grease just a tiny bit at fitting to hose , point makes a hose to stop very easy , then squeeze up the clamp , no leaks or issues . pete

3 pointsThis landed in my news feed. Being a lover of words, it gave me a smile. "English is a funny language. It can be mastered, though, through tough thorough thought."
-
3 pointsMost auto parts stores can load test the battery for free in hopes to sell another battery. My local store even charges it for a few hours for you before load testing it.
-
3 pointsSome maintainers dont put out 1/4 amp hardly while others put out enough to eventually hurt a battery, i use a NOCO Genius 1, 1 amp maintainer..its small enough to charge the little powersports and generator batteries, or maintain a 78series car battery. That said...if a battery freezes, it doesn't matter what charger is on it...the colder it gets the less power the battery has. A 340ca battery might hsve 280@32⁰...and if its a year old or has sulfidization on the plates, that number can dup under 150amps, and a cold engine needs more power to crank over. Put a 8 or 10 amp on it for an hour or 2...if it wont kick off its probably just bad...we had 1 cold snap in Florida and i had 3 batteries go bad overnight
