11 pointswell, back in the spring due to the leaves/wet grass/mud, etc. I found the turf tires would get clogged too easily. so I borrowed a tire groover and went to work. to do both tires took a couple hours and having run it all summer and now into snow season it was well worth the time to do. so far, even in snow, the traction is just as good as chains. haven't had any real ice to test yet. and yes, that is a ber-vac weight bracket on the back.

8 pointsI finally have the Suburban finished after repaint, new tires and repower with a Predator 212. Not a bad looking rig if I say so myself. 😉
-
7 pointsPainted about 3/4 of the parts to 1 Suburban this afternoon. Winter may be the best time to paint in Texas, 62F. no wind and no bugs. Sometimes the stars align, the paint really laid down nice today. I could leave them hang and say they are Christmas Wind Chimes. So this Suburban is being painted with Rustoleum a Regal Red with hardener. I’m thinking the next one I’ll get an @Achto type paint job. It will be an interesting comparison.

4 pointsI will rebuild your K181, K241, K301, K321 and K341 cast iron kohler engine for 295.00 plus parts and machine work if required. In most cases cylinder will be bored, crank will be ground, valve seats ground or reconditioned. New piston, new rings, new rod, valves new or reconditioned, all new seals and gaskets. Entire engine brought back to factory spec. I no longer do performance/pulling engines or twins. If your old Kohler is knocking or smoking it's most likely time for a rebuild before it locks up on you. Once rebuilt, and properly maintained, it will give you another 30-40 years of service. I don't cut corners, I take my time and get it right. 40 plus years of working on and rebuilding k series engines. You won't be disappointed. PM me with any questions.

4 pointsI actually messed up when I started the 2nd tire and just continued the pattern. which is why the tires are the way they are. both patterns seem to work equally well. I haven't had either tire lose traction or clog up more than the other.

4 pointsMy middle daughter went to Putnam Station, NY (top of Lake George) with some friends for the weekend, lots of snow and no power since 8:00am. Luckily the house has a generator.

4 pointsThis is actually the first one I bought. The second one I bought turned out to have a lot of issues that the previous owner basically lied about and wasn't at all what he claimed it to be so I ended up just selling it to someone else who was up for the challenge. I was so disgusted with the situation I didn't want to mess with it, so thankfully the guy that bought it was happy to give what I had paid for it so at least I got my money back.
-
4 pointsWell today is probably the first day of the week it decided not to snow which kinda makes me sad because no plowing peoples driveways so no money making but atleast we still have enough snow to throw snow balls and ride my snowmobile in the back yard and go sledding
-
4 pointsNuttin but rain and wind here in central Connecticut. Power dropped out for 30 seconds this morning…other than that it’s been uneventful
-
4 pointsIt was red gear oil that leaked out. I packed it with red wheel bearing grease. Thanks I got a smoking deal on this bad boy 1200.00 for everything you see hear plus a mower deck, tiller, blade, disk, a bunch of other stuff, and around 1000.00 dollars worth of miscellaneous spare parts. I can blow snow in a hoodie and stay warm.

4 pointsAn inch or two of wet sloppy snow, and looking at the radar it's almost out of our area. They called for 5-10 inches of snow. I would say we made out pretty well.

4 pointsLord God, We feel so afraid when we think of Declon Garnsey’s journeying through cancer. Dear Lord, there is so much we do not understand about cancer. Lord, we ask for courage. Help us to be strong and courageous as we journey with the Garnsey family. Bring calm to this chaos. When we don’t know what to do, help us to remember that you promise to give wisdom to those who ask. We come to you now, asking for wisdom. Show us Holy Spirit, how to bring the calming and comforting presence of Christ to our loved one. Show us how to encourage moment by moment as we journey together. Help us to listen attentively as they process their feelings just as You bend down and listen to me. Be with the medical staff that are tending to all Declon’s needs and guide them as they seek a miraculous cure. Father, may we be used by You to encourage the Garnsey’s. Fill us with renewed love as we journey this valley together. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your son and our savior.

4 pointsRed grease leaked out? The couple I've had open had a thick dark grease in them. I like the cab FYI -- Wrap a loop of #40 roller chain around those front tires and installed tight or they will get pushed off. Makes a huge difference with steering on snow and ice.

4 pointsWow... must be really hard up for articles... In the meantime us regular folks just got seat time on a STOCK '62 moving slush. It gotherdone but I can see a blade on a hydro in my future... HY lift please thank you @Achto.. Blowers were useless... like blowing concrete.

3 pointsMom bought an Argo several years ago. A niece of mine was wheel chair bound but loved to fish. She could get into the Argo on dry land, then my brother could drive into the pond so she could fish. Unless you had a trolling motor attached, this thing was like a floating bathtub and each breeze would blow you at will. The 6 tires spinning barely made it maneuverable. That was about the only thing it was used for but served it's purpose. The Argo would beat you up riding on rough ground. I would get a kick out of watching the grandbabies bouncing along. Nevertheless, they never turned down a ride. With the six axles below water level, there was quite a bit of upkeep to it also. We sold it three or four years ago. A fellow whose farm land was separated by a COE lake wanted to cross an arm of the lake without having to go around the arm on county roads. I suggested he use a trolling motor. It was fun while it lasted.

3 pointsI see how you cut them to have opposing patterns. Let us know if either one works out better than the other…. I’ve thought about doing similar to some for grip testing… great post!

3 pointsHat's off to the "pure" restorers, for sure, I am usually in awe of their dedication and expertise. But kudos to anyone finding a way to keep a piece of good equipment viable for continued useful work or enjoyment.

3 pointsI feel like an idiot for wasting so much time on that side plug. Completely forgot about the fill tube under the seat. Didn't see it until I was looking for a way to get oil in through the shifter. Couldn't see the Forest for the trees I suppose. And thanks Don I did have the front end of the tractor raised about 18 inches while draining.

3 pointsI can attest to his quality of rebuilds I've got a 16 horse Kohler he rebuilt and still running strong after 3 years.

3 pointsSorry, it's "busy". It became the basis for my 854 8 speed... with my first set of barbell plate weights on the front.
-
3 pointsAgreed. We've been using Rust-Oleum 2x spray cans for most of the work around here. Usually lays out well. Prep is of course paramount as with any paint work, spray or not. We find that it doesn't truly cure to full hardness for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Even then it doesn't come close to comparison of an automotive paint. Doesn't much matter to us because all ours are workers at this point. If we did do a restoration and wanted long lasting great looks I'd really want to go to a different paint type.

3 pointsHad fun playing with my snow equipment. The walk behind blower and my C145 with the plow made short work of the wet heavy mess. After moving snow my C145 filed a request for a new drive belt. Silly tractor sat all summer & didn't say one thing about wanting a belt, had to wait until it was time to go back to work.

2 pointsI try to keep my machines as close to original as possible but what you've done there is an excellent job.

2 pointsNo, that fill plug is part of the castings that was there from the beginning...before dip sticks. If you did not have a dip stick, you would fill your transmission until oil started to come out of that hole. Glad you got after that drain plug and saved your transmission.

2 points@elcamino/wheelhorse imagine pulling up with this to a car show ? think it would fit in a west coast setting , the RINO CAR SHOW is fantastic , have your happy face on , smiley pete

2 pointsThat's a pretty good deal!!! The thick grease will stay in there now. It softens up from the friction heat when running for good lubrication but shouldn't liquefy enough to leak out. Not sure why someone would want to change that to oil. I applied that same principle to the worm gearbox on the front once the seals leaked some oil. But not thick bearing grease. Another tip for performance--- re-surface the flat behind the PTO pulleys and the mating clutch material. I use a belt sander for the metal and a sanding block for the clutch material. (Sand paper on a flat surface will do) Right after you use it removing a good amount of snow, quickly go and feel the pulleys. Without it running of coarse! If it's hot, then that is caused by slipping friction of the clutching connection between those 2 surfaces assuming the belt is good and also tight. Making them both flat creates more contact surface area and reduces slipping. Proper adjustment at that rod for the PTO is also critical for performance. A slipping belt will also cause heat on the pulleys. I had to change mine because the groove was worn. Probably from heavy use of a 60" deck without proper adjustment for the belt is my guess.

2 pointsSleet all day. Maybe an inch or two here and there on the road, but nothing major. Raining now and mid-forties called for overnight. The forecast 6” or so may have happened, but did not accumulate. No biggy.

2 pointsNice to have a blade in the arsenal. Hydro drive & lift does make it even better,

2 pointsFor what it matters the K-90 and the K-91 are the same engine. Kohler was also making multiple cylinder engines for portable power plants and the last digit is the number of cylinders. Pictured below is a two cylinder OHV Kohler on a generator.
