12 pointsHello my fine people, I just wanted to wish each and every one of our Wheel Horse family a very happy Thanksgiving. I am very thankful to be in your company and hope that our hobby brings us close together, no matter how far away we might be in this beautiful country. To all my friends here, Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours, Regards, Snoop-Don and family

11 pointsWell, not quite Thanksgiving, but the night before, on November 25, 2009, I was sitting at my desktop computer looking for a plastic dash panel for my 1977 B-100. It was my intention to begin acquiring parts to do a complete restoration over the winter. Well as luck would have it, I discovered RedSquare Wheel Horse forum. I joined, ask a question about where to find my dash, and as the old saying goes, the rest is history. Here I sit, tonight, the night before Thanksgiving 13 years later, reminiscing about all the information that I have received over those 13 years, and realizing how thankful that I am to have found this group. I am truly blessed. I am not a man of many friends (by my choice), but those whom I have met through this forum and at Wheel Horse shows are among the best and truest friends a guy could have. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Bob

9 pointsLooks great Mike, but that twist in that cross chain is buggin me. Could ya fix that so I can sleep tonight.
-
9 pointsIt’s GONE! @Outlier I have a long frame square hood that runs pretty well. I’m about 5 hours north of Indy however, and the tractor is tucked away quite well. Feel free to PM me for more info if it is of any interest. It’s the 1056 in this picture (right side of the picture)

9 pointsMy 502 “Putt Putt” has become a solid, reliable worker. As Dan says, the square hoods seem to be better workers than stock round hoods, up my 8 hp, 8 speed with 1-1/8” axles round hood has all the great parts of a little later model and the classic looks hou’re after. Keep in mind, ‘63-‘64 steering systems improved greatly over ‘61 and ‘62! At the end of the day, the only thing a later square hood has on me is a larger engine/transmission pulley set, for more contact patch and belt grip - but I can still pull a 10” plow.
-
8 pointsGot all the weights mounted up on the 308…one step closer to being a snowplow tractor.
-
8 pointsto the I get your desire to to own a round hood, but if I could only have one tractor for mowing and plowing snow, I would look for a 312 hydro with the M12 Kohler and the Eaton 1100 hydro with hydraulic lift. BTW, no one ever stops at one Wheel Horse. Good Luck, and keep us updated with pictures.

6 pointsHey everyone, I've been following the forum and related facebook groups wistfully for about a year... Long enough to recognize that I'll never find one of these in Eastern Washington state. I'm envious of the photos posted of all the amazing collections - bumper to bumper, filling sheds and garages. You lucky people seem to pick up tractors left and right on your way to the store or home from work, and that will never happen for me. However! Suddenly the stars have aligned and I have a brother driving from Indianapolis to Washington state for Christmas... He's willing to bring me a horse. I've been carefully watching marketplace and craigslist, but as my window closes, I thought I'd reach out to this group for help. Anybody know of someone willing to thin their herd, but only if it goes to a good home? I promise it'll be treasured. I'll park it next to my '57 210 wagon. I used to have a 1956 Ford 850, but had to move into town and now I "farm" a small place in a normal neighborhood. I've got a budget of $650 +/- a bit. I need a mower deck and a snow blade, preference for a Kohler, doesn't have to be electric start. I only need one, and doesnt have to be a showpiece, I'm pretty handy but it cant be a project. No pending engine rebuilds, or too many parts missing since shipping will always be a problem. I love the roundhoods. They look the most like a classic big tractor to me. (with ags, and not lawn rangers, and not really interested in anything from the 70's) I'm definitely a fan of the tractors that have the two-part gas tank, so a little longer hood. (Think like an 854.) Any leads? Too much to ask for my price range? Thanks!

6 pointsI would also like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving !! I've already greased the legs and wings of my turkey. I've cleaned the spark plug and checked the cylinder for wear. I have even re-wired it for even cooking. I'm thinking a little Home Made Concord Wine will help the conductivity and create an excellent gravy. Hope you all enjoy this Special Day my Friends !!
-
6 pointsAND!!! Second to family, friends, and food, enjoy the tractors!!! I'm very thankful to have friends like you Dave. I'm so glad that you came into my life... and I actually got to meet you in real life!!! @Jeff-C175 @ebinmaine same goes for you guys, even though we live far away... all of your friendship has meant so much to me. We've had so many laughs, and you guys have been there through everything that has happened this year with Covid-19 in our home... other family matters that have happened. I wouldn't trade you guys' friendship for anything. People like you all and the rest of the group on the forum are hard to come by. I'm thankful for you all. ...and I need some Kleenex... Don

6 pointsHappy Thanksgiving to all - hope you all get to enjoy the company of family and/or friends, and enjoy some delicious food to share.

5 pointsThey are International Harvester weights commonly found on the front of the larger tractors. But the holes line up perfectly with our 12” rear wheels and the hole in the weight fits right over the hub. You can see them mounted on the front wheels in the pics. I usually pay about $100 a pair.
-
5 pointsThank you Pullstart for reminding us of the good things God blesses us with, the important things, and unfortunately, that sad, almost unbearable things that can happen in life too. I just try to remember that God can turn a tragedy into a triumph. Have a safe trip home, and I WILL hug my loved ones and tell them I LOVE them !
-
5 pointsYupper... ditto all the wishes and sentiments. All y'all are da best!
-
5 pointsFor anyone (especially spouses) who say that tractors are not worth the time, effort and money we put into them, I disagree. These memories are priceless
-
5 pointsJudging by you choice of other vehicles mentioned I can appreciate your desire for a round hood. Indianapolis, northern Indiana and southern Michigan should yield the best chance for finding what you want as they had the majority of the early dealership network. Place an ad in our classified section here https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/classifieds/wanted/ and you may find something interesting. If one comes up be prepared to jump on it because they go quickly. Happy hunting.
-
5 pointsWell the roundies are the more unique looking tractor and can be made into a solid tractor as you stated but the bigger advantage of some mid sixties and early to mid seventies is the comfort factor for bigger guys. The long frames are more comfortable to operate for my tall lanky ass. 😂

5 pointsI never used a bike brake cable, but I did use a piece of garage door cable to replace the upper wire when I reworked my blade angle lever to bring it inside the warm cab. I used small eyebolts as guides and a small turnbuckle for tension adjustment.

4 pointsThanks to all of you dudes and dudettes that make this a place to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!

4 pointsI ain't done nuttin' but some occasional comic relief and give you the viewpoint of a level-headed country Bear on occasion. Everybody have a fantabulous day and week etc.
-
4 pointsOutlier - I have several tractors that *might* be of interest, and I'm only about 1 hour southwest of Indy. Unfortunately I only have one snow blade so I don't want to part with that, but maybe I can help you find one. I do have a 48" deck. What I'm willing to part with: 1989 416-8 (shifter, not hydro). Repainted (not show quality) with new decals. May need some carb cleaning, a little hard to start when cold. New front tires, new battery. Aftermarket 12v fuel pump. Trans has a tendency to pop out of second gear at times, but I don't think there's time or gumption for me to try to fix that in the next few weeks. 1992 (?) 416-H, Eaton 1100 hydro with hydro lift. This tractor is a bit "rough" and needs some TLC, also maybe a bit hard to start but runs great. All 4 tires have leaks, one rear may have a bad valve. Needs new battery but I would swap a new one in if you want this tractor. If you're interested I will share some pictures and more details. I'm willing to do some "light work" on one before it goes, but don't have lots of free time. I don't have a good tire changer machine, so there would be costs involved in dismounting those to fix leaks. The other option would be, for the right price I could swap the good tires/wheels off the 416-8 onto the 416-H to remove that problem. The rims on those are painted a nice shiny silver. I recommend that, if you're interested, we exchange most of our info in this open thread, so others can comment on the issues and value. The last thing I want is to sell someone something they're not happy with, and that the other forum members agree is a fair deal. [Edited to add:]. I did a search on Craigslist, and there's a blade just like mine for sale for $100 in Gillespie, IL, which isn't too far off I-70 near St.Louis. If your brother was willing, maybe he could swing by there on the way out and pick it up for you. I see some for sale in the Classifieds on this forum, but haven't seen any that are nearby or in the travel path your brother is likely taking.

4 pointsAnd so, it's finally time to see if this auction found '71 K241 can live! I attached it to a scrap pallet which took most of the time. Added an old muffler. Hooked it up to the 516 battery because she's not shy at helping to start a John Deere engine - as long as it's a K. Had to add about a pint of oil. She started easy with a little choke and purrs. So, the promised video? I hope it works . . . well, nope! Standard iPhone video MOV. Oh, well. Now, what the heck to do with this thing? I'm like its former owner - sit it on a rack until needed but, considering the way these are made, I'll probably die first and some estate sale slob will get it cheaper than me. The 125's just got bored .020 and is a brute sans its balance gears. The old '77 K301 just goes and goes. Anyway, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

4 pointsHere is my 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 that I got for $FR.EE. All it needed to run was a fuel pump and some love… I refreshed the whole tractor. There is a thread on here called something like 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 Refresh. I think it is a great tractor !
-
4 pointsWelcome to the forum and good Luck! I have stated this before but.. I grew up in the Midwest. I live in N.C. now. I have one horse but I have never seen another in person. I would like more they just do not seem to exist here. I get loads of help from the kind folks here. Hopefully you can get a hold of one. Best of luck in your adventure
-
4 pointsJust as another option there. I haven't had much luck using electrical tape. What little I have around here is too thick for the seal to ride over it. I've done better with either packing tape or good quality Scotch (office) tape.
-
4 pointsAt minimum... Determine the reason for that pulley moving in and out enough to destroy the seal and cause that kind of damage to itself. Once you get into the transmission take some good pictures and we can look at it to try to figure out what's going on. It's legitimately possible that the pulley is just plain in a little too far. Replace all four seals. Obviously you'll need a case split gasket. New shift boot. IMHO because you're already going to be into the transmission I would absolutely replace both wheel bearings at the outside. Carefully check the large carrier bearings on the inside but they're likely okay. All four seals can be replaced from the outside. No need to remove the bearings for the brake shaft or input shaft seals.
-
4 pointsJust as a suggestion, I would look for something in a 1965 to early 70's if you want a worker. I love my round hoods but the square hoods are a more capable tractor IMO. If you wish to have a Kohler engine you will be looking for a 7hp or larger engine. Most 6hp & below were Tecumseh.
-
4 pointsHave you looked through the classified section? Also may want to place a wanted add there. Might get more exposure... Good luck! Always people buying and selling!!!
-
4 pointsExcellent idea. If/when you damage a seal don't sweat it. I've done it more times than I would rather admit. We have enough of a Herd here that I keep our own little Parts Department. I order seals in bulk. Literally. 6 to 10 at a time. Pricing is far better and I know I'll have what I need when I screw up. 😂 There's nothing you can't do on these. Just a matter of time and tools. You'll think that even more when you start using the tractor.
-
4 points@GAJoe I know you aren’t there yet , but when you get to replacing the seals around the input and brake shaft, one of them worked better by flipping it around to install… when I did mine on the 8 speed on my Work Horse GT-1600 the metal on the seal would catch on the housing and booger up the seal. After 2 failed attempts someone on here suggested flipping it around. When you order those seals get a few extra…

4 pointsI almost didn't tackle this job for lack of clear instruction in that B&W manual. You guys are supplementing wonderfully. Please keep it up. Above is perfect for me; a comment and then two or three clarifications to make sure I understand. You guys are mind readers. Thanks; you're building my knowledge and confidence.

3 pointsI been jonesin for one for a long time. You still here once in a awhile @WVHillbilly520H ? I know your a Kioti fan Jeffrey but... it was kinda love at first sight. I did do my leg work tho and narrowed it down to Mahindra, Bobcat & LS. Bobcats you were paying more for the name. LS were a bit cheaper and nice features but lesser warranty. Biggest problem was the availability. What they had on the lot was what you got. Many dealers were under an allotment except for Kubota dealers but 186 for a jug of their "special" oil and two filters for the s x s ruled them out. Be used for road upkeep and firewood making & general property maintenance. Rears loaded with beet juice & a set of forks. 38 HP four jug with no DPF or def. Box scraper will work good Dan @Achto.
-
3 pointsIt held up great… took a lot to scuff it… spills wipe right up. The worse thing I have done to make it ugly is paint overspray, and I wish I hadn’t done that…

3 pointsIf you have an ice pick...heat and bend a 90 in the end to reach in and pull out. I never did like taking a drill to the seal and using a sheet metal screw to grab the seal. It is only 1/8" to play with...you could damage the bearing if you have not ever seen or done a seal exchange before. They pull out with an ice pick bent at the end. Show a new seal and how thick it is so a new guy can see how much to dig in. What do you think???
-
3 pointsEric, the one thing I did not do is show how to change out a seal from the outside. I also did not show how to drop a trans out of a horse, or how to open it. Those things seem to be what gets to be the issues for the members getting started. Replacing a seal would be excellent video. My videos are all about re-building the transmission.

3 pointsWell gentleman - once points were gapped ( .020 ) and cleaned, on the new unit, she fired right up…. I’ll be honest, I thought there was no way it would work .. My blissful ignorance Thank you so much for your time and valuable feedback. I hope one day to contribute as you guys do ! Thank You !!! Mark
-
3 pointsjim the Mahindra kind of reminds me in looks of the Honda 6522 my dad bought four years before he passed. An over engineered four wheel drive three cylinder diesel tractor. Ours has a backhoe and lots of gears. We have a couple different backhoe buckets . Digging was the objective!
-
3 pointsYour local ACE hardware or NAPA will have the snap ring on hand. For a good used replacement wheel you can call Lincoln at A to Z used tractor parts, anything you buy from him has been inspected and is the correct part. https://www.a-ztractor.com/
-
3 points@peter lena, this engine has a single diode rather than a regulator. I would suggest you check out the white wire from the engine to the "R" terminal on the ignition switch and the wire going from it that goes in under the flywheel cover. The diode itself is a small lump with shrink wrap over it that connects to the white wire. remove the covering so you can inspect the diode for signs of overheating. The diode should be rated at 50 watts and can be found at https://www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/part/kohler/2575531s. The likelihood of a local electronics store having one is slim to none but is worth checking out as you could save some money if they have one.
