22 pointsFor anyone (especially spouses) who say that tractors are not worth the time, effort and money we put into them, I disagree. These memories are priceless

13 pointsI been jonesin for one for a long time. You still here once in a awhile @WVHillbilly520H ? I know your a Kioti fan Jeffrey but... it was kinda love at first sight. I did do my leg work tho and narrowed it down to Mahindra, Bobcat & LS. Bobcats you were paying more for the name. LS were a bit cheaper and nice features but lesser warranty. Biggest problem was the availability. What they had on the lot was what you got. Many dealers were under an allotment except for Kubota dealers but 186 for a jug of their "special" oil and two filters for the s x s ruled them out. Be used for road upkeep and firewood making & general property maintenance. Rears loaded with beet juice & a set of forks. 38 HP four jug with no DPF or def. Box scraper will work good Dan @Achto.

11 pointsHi one and all. She who must be obeyed hath spoken... We are to sell our big house and move to a smaller property. Thus releasing some cash, liberating some big machinery that I don't use anymore and removing the pain and grief of living in a money pit lol. So I now have to start deciding what I need, what I can ditch and get on with selling it. I'm not looking forward to saying goodbye to machines and tools I have collected over many years. But you can't take it with you and freeing up some cash will be welcome. I am looking forward to a smaller house as this one takes so much looking after repair wise. So, big changes but an opportunity to have a bit better lifestyle. Wheelhorse will be stabled at the new place so don't panic. Mick

5 pointsThis morning, I got the machine sanded, rinsed, and it is currently sitting out drying off. Amazing how much dirt and grime that got rinsed and scrubbed off... At some point, possibly later today, I will pull the tires off and coat the frame in Rustoleum high temp paint. Don

5 pointsThat roll pin was supposed to be removed before dropping the trans, thus making it easy. Use a roll pin pinch to tap out the roll pin and also use the punch to replace the pin. Do not put a bolt in there, use the roll pin that comes out. It will tap out easily and is fine to reuse.

5 pointsGet a proper 8 point socket for this, you won't get it with a combo wrench.

5 pointsI’ve been gone since last Thursday. Got 3 deer coming home with me and MO hunting is like a slice of heaven on earth. Had an owl perched on my ladder stand with me this morning, saw 6 does within the first 40 minutes of good light and had a buck walk under me before day break so I couldn’t see him. 4 bald eagles skimming the duck pond, wild pheasants flying about. All that said, I’m ready to be home. Mrs. p is ready for me too. Her cousin’s son Declan isn’t looking like he’ll pull out of his leukemia battle. The hospital staff suggested calling in end of life counselors for the family. Y’all have a Happy Thanksgiving this week! Please hug your family and remind them you love ‘em!

5 pointsI picked this guy up this weekend in Indiana. I haven’t gotten the approval of the previous PO’s so I won’t mention their names at this time out of respect. Pretty much restored unit that has already been registered here on RS. An electric lift has been installed. I don’t think they had those yet in ‘66. But I like it. Lots a brand new OEM parts were added by last PO. It runs like dream. Drives like a dream. I know it’s not an original down to the nut and bolt but it’s pretty damn close. While I appreciate the barn finds as much as the next guy I also like the pretty ones when done right. So purists, take it easy on me I appreciate patina too. Lastly the seat on this guy is one of the last seats Bob Ellison made.

4 pointsIf you don't have an 8 point socket that isn't a problem. @roadapples came up with a rather clever way of getting the torque wrench to fit the 3/8" square head setscrew. Use a 3/8 drive 3/8" Allen Wrench and a 3/8" socket that will fit your torque wrench. Place the square drive end of the allen wrench over the square head of the set screw then place the 3/8 socket over the allen hex and you are ready to torque the set screw. We miss you Jay.

4 pointsI also changed out the fronts on my 312 and left the long spindles on. The extra plow lift height is a plus for stacking snow. I run a 42"SD deck and don't have any trouble with clearance or leveling the deck.
-
4 pointsThe set screws on your hubs should be tightened to 30 ft/lb and then the lock nut should also be tightened to 25 ft/lb.
-
4 pointsI wondered about snow buildup. We get a mixture of light to heavy. I use silicone spray but if it proves to be a problem it will come off and stay off. As far as direction I try to keep it downwind but sometimes I think there isn't a downwind.
-
4 pointsI will add… when you reinstall the hubs, use anti-seize on the axle where the hub meets the axle. This should make for easy removal if you ever have to remove the hubs again. I would also use new set screws with new lock nuts. You can order them from McMaster-Carr.
-
4 pointsI think it helps, by keeping so much snow building up on top of the auger housing. I don't believe it helps with the distance it throws snow. That depends mostly on the condition of the snow, the speed you're traveling at and the rpms of the blower.

4 pointsShe's a beauty, nice job! Nice wheel weights too, they look much better red! I picked up a No Name 12 Auto this spring, it was pretty clean, only had to rewire it & touch up some odds & ends. She's got the wrong hood sticker, but doesn't seem to mind.

4 pointsSpotted this little gem this morning. Got some crust here 'n there ... you can see if you zoom in. Don't see these old square body Rangers in Maine very often anymore.
-
4 pointsYes new points need to be cleaned. The contact surfaces can be oxidized or sometimes a product is added to keep them from oxidizing. You can check this with a voltmeter. Connect to the (-) coil terminal. With the points open you should have 12 volts or more. With the points closed you should have 0 volts. If you have 12 volts or more with the points closed the points are not making electrical contact. They need to pull the coil (-) to ground each time they close to get spark.

4 pointsExcellent. Glad to see you tackling this. Your next challenge will be to remove the hubs. Please do NOT use a 3 jaw puller. There are home shop made pullers that work well. Access to a press is even better. On that roll pin... EDIT. Use the roll pin. All the bearings, seals and gaskets are available from Lowell at Wheelhorse Parts and More along with other sources. On reassembly use a gasket between the case halves, installed dry. Fire away with questions...

3 pointsYep, warm and cozy. The cylinder is connected to the motion control lever and pushes it back to reverse. The lever is then connected to the right foot pedal. Push pedal down for forward and let cylinder pull pedal up for reverse. Push left pedal for neutral and brake. I have springs on some and cylinders on some. Both work equally well.

3 pointsThis comes up just about every year at our place. By the time my wife finishes with her list of has to haves, I tell her we might as well stay here! I am just not as interested in yard work or home maintenance as I once was. We have let a lot of stuff go and are moving some things to the kids. (kids 42 and 37). My daughter did ask recently if there is a plan for my tractor stuff. I was nice and said, "there is a plan". (I just aint figured it out yet)

3 pointsAfter researching on this forum I bought the following as a spare and it looks and operates identical to the original clutch switch. It is a refrigerator fan switch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZ91GW3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3 pointsI did search this a couple weeks ago and found a couple of mentions of this as an idea but no pictures or "done that" posts. However, Toro did this as a factory job on at least one blade. I found the manual in the files (link below) and since I have a LOT of spare bike parts, I'll model my conversion on their design.
-
3 pointsI looked at that but decided that I could live with the play in the interest of having the direction lever remain easily removed for storage--I wanted to leave the bell crank attached, too. Next year, though, I'm going to convert it to use a bicycle brake lever and cable to pull the pivot lock pin and thereby eliminate the stiff wires and the bell crank altogether!
-
3 pointsI see you have already removed the hitch pin, considering the condition this C-160 is in the hubs will probably not be too much of a challenge either. There are several posts on here about hub removal. As @ebinmaine mentioned you don't want to use a three jaw puller or a hammer. This post by @meadowfield is very good. The other one by @Maxwell-8 has some good ideas too. Many auto parts supply stores will loan you a "Bearing Splitter" so you can pull from behind the hub rather than from the face.

3 pointsEd the original shaft seal for the Hein Werner pump was a little thicker than the remake replacements that are out there. I had a few of the originals but have sold all of them over the years. one of the issues with the shaft is the wear on the actual shaft from turning. The newer seals are thinner. One of the things that can be done is to place two seals in the shaft space. There is just enough room for the rubber on the second seal to fit in-the depressed area. I have often purchased Hein Werner parts from Cub Cadet, Bolens and other tractor suppliers for the pumps as they may have other numbers of the part but the pumps and parts are the same!

3 pointsRob Nice Score. I had a 1075 with that seat real sharp looking. Was there a PTO rod on this model? Not too familiar with this model being have not seen many. Enjoy it every day.

3 pointsThere's a nut directly under the worm gear holding it with a carriage bolt to the bracket. Loosen that and tap the worm gear towards the chute but don't wedge them tight as possible. When it's too tight it will bind the chute on the blower housing.
-
3 pointsReally a 2 weekend project.... installed reduction steering kit on the 520-H along with new boots around the steering rod ends as well as fluid filled the rear tires. I did not have good luck steering in the snow with the tri rib front tires so I took them off and installed 5 ribs. Also got the snow removal fleet ready for winter.

3 pointsI mentioned it in the recipes thread, but since you asked… Also, these are two deer that Mark Pierce, who leases/owns the farms, shot last year. I believe they were both with a crossbow. The 10 point scored 181” and the 8 point scored 160”. So massive!
