10 pointsThanks so much Pfrederi and Pacer for helping me get my D-160 clutch brake installed it works great, even if it was a royal pain in the a$$ to install, and thanks to 76c12091520H for sending me the part I needed. I really wanted my tiller tines to stop at the end of a run and they do. I don't want to knock any other site, but you don't get the same amount of knowledgeable information from Facebook groups or other GT sites as you do here.

7 pointsAs some of you know last year at this time I had a heart attack on October 26th 2021 and on November 1 2021 I had surgery. All they could do is put a stint in 1 artery because of my lungs.i did flat line twice. After 5 weeks in intensive care I got to go to therapy. My muscles deteriorated so much that I lost 40 lbs . We'll because of all the x-rays and ct scans they found a aneurysm in my abdomen that was very large . So I had to have surgery on that and a abdominal stent was installed . Because my lungs are a problem I can't be sedated so they did a spinal block. And I'm on oxygen 24/7 so I'm not able to work on my tractors any more and I sold my beloved c160's. I thank GOD for saving my life twice and all my wheelhouse friends for the prayers I received. Life isn't the same when your limited but I still go to Church I'm a trustee and a Minister at my Church. I'm not on the site that often but I always said . THIS IS THE BEST WHEEL HORSE SITE IN THE WORLD. And the people that run it and all the members are great friends. Thanks to all my friends

7 pointsTodays progress on the plow while I was at work. Looks pretty decent to me. Minus the pitting. Brought Alex down to check it out and get his approval and he’s very happy.

5 pointsMake sure the hood has not worn the vent in the center of the gas cap enough to seal it off.
-
5 pointsPull the fuel line off of the carb and direct it into an empty bottle or something. Have someone turn the key and fuel should pump into the bottle. If the engine starts have them ready to turn it off right away. Little to no fuel, little to no pump working.

5 pointsThe new family member, 5 months old with 2 of them in the SPCA. He seems to be willing to learn the finer things in life. Only took 1 day to take over the bed. Problem is my other dog has her nose out of joint. That was her bed! The new bed is on order.

4 pointsReplaced the factory auger shaft bushings on my two stage snowblower with greasable flange bearings. I did have to drill new holes on the side plates due to the spacing and size. Used the bearings at the link below. Cheaper than the factory bushings and seem to be of very good quality. They are PGN bearings and I didn't see any China markings which is nice. Definitely a nice upgrade. Thanks @wallfish @ri702bill https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QLBYT1Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

4 pointsBreak time! Got the mowing deck removed... what a mess. The bushing shafts for the belt tensioners had completely rusted solid... so the belts were not being tensioned properly. Getting ready to fab up some pieces for the holes in the deck... then things will really start taking shape. Every one of the idler pulleys is going to have to be packed... It was only a matter of time for the belt... that's fine. Don

4 pointsI should finish up this thread I guess... big shout out to Terry @Vinylguy for the excellent job on the labels! This old girl has a (measured, yes, I own instruments capable of making the measurement) THD % just slightly higher than the electric service to the home. The POCO service measured at 3.6%, this genset measured 4.5%, and the newer Generac GP5500 that I have measures about 7%. I think the reason this one is so good is the type of voltage regulation used. It's 'analog', a current sensing transformer, bridge rectifier, and capacitor feeding the field winding. The Generac uses one of those potted AVR modules and from what I can tell, NO current (load) sensing at all, simply voltage sensing, and probably uses a 'chopper' circuit of some sort and that's the reason the AC waveform on the Generac appears 'jagged'. It also surprises me the sheer SIZE of the generator head on the 3600W Homelite being easily TWICE the size and weight of the 5500W head on the Generac. Makes me wonder if the generator output in this case is more related to the horsepower of the engine. The K301 is putting about 7 HP to the wheels at 1800 RPM, the Generac is unknown horsepower, but it's running at 3600 RPM. Fuel tank refinished and mounted: Air cleaner too: Hour meter installed in one of the 'knockouts' on the panel. Going to dig through my junque boxe and see if I can come up with some analog AC voltmeters to fill the other two holes... maybe ammeters... if I have them, dunno... Thank you Terry!

4 pointsI made a pair of those years ago to squash my wheelers coil-springs and hold them while I slipped the shock body out .
-
4 pointsI'm of the opinion that they would be used to support a heavy pair of wooden gates and their posts in a wooden fence. They would be mounted in the top hinge with one cable running to the opposite corner of the gate. The second cable attached to the next line post to prevent the weight of the gate from pulling the gate post out of plumb.

4 pointsThanks Richard I do stop by and read some of the posts from time to time. I thank GOD every day for another day and yes he was with me everyday in the hospital. I was in great pain after the chest compressions fractured my ribs. But I'm ready to go if he says it's my time. I thank JESUS CHRIST everyday for another day with my wife and family And friends.

3 pointsFirst hydro horse I’ve had. Had original filter and not showing any paint removed from the drain bolt. Safe to assume it hasn’t been touched in 52 years. anything to know? I topped it off with Valvoline Dex/Merc ATF and run it around a little bit. Was working fine before but it was 3.5 qts low. Surprised it’s survived this long. Have a couple Napa 1410s on order and 2 more gallons of ATF coming UPDATE : Figured out that wasn’t the drain plug. Original statement still stands that it’s never been serviced though. Letting it throughly drain and going to fill it up with fresh fluid. Not seeing a whole lot of metal or contamination but the fluid was a burnt orange color. Dipstick was extremely corroded. Hoping for the best.

3 pointsSimilar story on my C-160. It had what looked like the original filter and the oil was thick and black looking. I changed it and used it for a month or so then changed it again. Then I used it for about a year and changed it one more time Oil Looks a lot better now. Tractor has run fine, but can tell the hydro has some wear if I use it a long day.

3 pointsOur friend @AHS Andrew found a great deal on an engine local to him and wanted a chassis for it. Today he stopped by our house with his friend Jake to pick it up along with a K301 12 HP engine for his Dad. @SylvanLakeWH Jim you'll be happy to know this here Black Hood tractor found a great new home.

3 pointsbingo I did a search using ATV Spring compressors and they came up. looks like used as a coil over smaller shock application. Threw them in the drawer with puller stuff.

3 pointsHI Brian, The Commandos are great little tractors, but IMO, the 8HP and 3 speed is not the best combo to operate a single stage blower. The auger is the pump that throws the snow. Therefore, to prevent the chute from clogging, the auger RPM must be kept at maximum and the tractor ground speed must be varied to maintain the auger full of snow. I feel a 12HP minimum with a hydrostatic transmission with a hydraulic lift would make a much better combo to operate a single stage blower. There are many C or 300 series hydro tractors available. I see you live in NW Pa so you probably have quite a bit of snow to deal with. Good luck.

3 pointsI have a paper template that will lay on top of the head while torqueing the bolts.

3 pointsWith the snow cab on my 414-8, the interior is very dark especially at night or early morning. I mounted two LED license plate lights underneath the seat, attached to the seat frame, and wired to the headlight switch. Gives great interior lighting!

3 pointsWhile I was still in college, I had one of the valve covers off of my 57 Chevy for some reason. I had to disconnect the fuel line from the carb to remove the cover. I put the cover back on, hopped in the driver's seat and fired the engine up. The hood was still open, and through the gap between the hood and cowl, I saw something splashing. Oops, I realized I had not reconnected the fuel line. Kill the engine, and start mopping fuel off of the engine. About that time, a friend rolls up to see what I am doing. Cleaning the firewall, I tell him. Oh, he says as he is pulling a cigarette out and preparing to light it. He looked kind of shocked when I told him NOT to light up! Then he realized why I hollered at him.

3 pointsI'd wonder who'd be foolish enough to complain after getting their plow prepped and painted for them! Not me, for sure. Looks good from here

3 pointsThank you @rmaynard and @rjg854 for your kind words. Thanks for being good friends. The greatest gift a person can give is his friendship.
-
3 pointsYes it is. A sobering thought I should think more often.... I admire your diligence, dealing with this. I hate to admit it, but I've done things like filling my tractor or push mower or weed whacker in the garage, running it over and spilling gas on the floor, and sometimes I don't even wipe it up. Hey, it evaporates, right? Duh. I wonder how long afterward if I lit a match it would still catch fire? I need to be more careful with this stuff... acetone also, but that stuff really does evaporate fast. Speaking of Jay Leno and fuel lines, I didn't get burned in this "incident" but I lost a whole car: Back in the mid-1980's, I had a "Frankenstein" VW Beetle that I had built from 3 different cars ('69,'70, don't remember what the other one was). Anyway, I guess after installing the engine, I plugged the gas line into the carb but never bothered to put a clamp on it. I probably put 5000 miles on it that way, until one day on the way home from work I heard a "POP" and the engine died, so I coasted to the shoulder. WTH? I went back and opened the hood, and flames shot out. Lots of flames. Well duh, no fire extinguisher in the car... I decided that all I could do was get anything out of the car quickly that I wanted to save. I was on the shoulder of a 4 lane, and I just tossed everything over into the grass. A trucker coming the other way stopped and ran over with a fire extinquisherbut it was too late already. Looking in though, I could see that the flames were shooting out of the gas line - it had popped off and was feeding gas right onto the engine. In the end there was nothing left but a smoking pile of metal. I thought I'd share this some maybe others who might be prone to doing "not so smart" things like this, will re-think their strategies. And now that I'm reminded of this, I'm going to re-think the way I'm storing and doing some things in the garage, especially since my wife's car is in there.

2 pointsAll: First a tip of the Wheel Horse Cap to our resident Grease Guru, @peter lena, aka Slippery Pete for suggesting this chute upgrade - it works. I have my faithful 1976 Ariens 10000 series 24" Sno Thro with the manual crank to rotate the discharge chute. I removed the chute, cleaned up the metal mating surfaces and cut a 6" or so diameter glide washer out of a 1/16" thick UHMW plastic sheet, about 7/16" wide. This glide lives on top of the tub and the chute sits on it. Had to make some aluminum small diameter spacers, also 1/16" thick to lower the 3 retainer plates. Sorry, no pictures, but you get the idea. Lubed up the metal guide tube that centers the chute with silicone spray - no more chunchy jerky motion to rotate the chute - works slicker than jelly on a gold tooth !! Bill

2 pointsAs far as the engine goes, it will be getting the shroud removed at some point, to get a full inspection for debris. It will get thoroughly inspected otherwise... but unlike my other engines, I won't be opening this one as it runs superb and from what I can tell the piston tops and valves look pretty clean. I will likely do a good bit of exterior cleaning and painting on it before it gets put back in... The frame of the machine is going to get cleaned and painted, obviously, but before I do that, I have to remove some wiring stuff and go through all of that good stuff. The wires, including the positive power wire that runs from the battery to the back of the machine will get encased in plastic wire loom. I really need to dig in to all of the machine's wiring... might start on that tomorrow... It should look stellar and be pretty sound once I am finished. Don

2 pointsI had recalled seeing a add for a deck that had surface rust so I got in touch with the seller. It was less than 20 minutes from the tractor location. I went by and bought it. And had room to take it with me. Can some one tell me if a 300 series deck will work on the C-160 also? Both are the "Attach a Matic" quick connect.
-
2 pointsYes It's a '74. He gave me the manuals and some notes that I haven't had time to review yet.
-
2 pointsI like the seats better also. They look like a well broken in leather; they're not are they? What should be applied to keep it looking good and not crack? And that steering wheel cap tops it off.
-
2 pointsWell I'm sorry to say that the deal didn't finalize for the 312-8. It was a Face Book Market Place add. We just couldn't come to terms. I wanted to know that if I drove four hours that it would be held for me and not be gone. I thought that we came to an agreement but he "wouldn't hold it for anyone" and never listed it as "Pending Sale". It would have been a hundred dollars in fuel and a whole day of driving and testing. I wanted to know that it wasn't a wasted trip. But I should have known that the good Lord had a surprise in store. Last night I saw a new add for a C-160 but I was to tired to look closer. This morning it was still there so I looked at it and found the location. It was an hour and half drive and in great looking shape. He didn't dodge my questions and flat told me that the front tire wasn't holding air and the deck was in rough shape as a '75 deck normally would be. He agreed to hold it until lunch to give me time to get the cash and get there. A totally different attitude than the other. I went and saw the C-160 that was a "single owner/family" The guys Father in Law bought it in MI and this guy wound up with it. He said that his Wife (the buyer's daughter) hated to see it go but he needed it out of the way. It hadn't been used in quite a while. He had a charge on the battery and it fired right up. I got it for a reasonable price considering that the deck will need to be replaced soon. Definitely not a wasted trip. I like the style of these older "C" series WH's over the 300 series.

2 pointsFuel pumps are a rather binary thing, they either work or don't. Since you say the engine generally starts right up it is probably good. The fuel cap vent will cause an engine to starve for fuel if it is plugged. As gas is removed from the tank it will develop a slight vacuum that the pump can't overcome if the vent is not allowing air in.

2 pointsOne of my boiler parts suppliers was in the heart of the city of Rochester NY. They had those bait boxes all over the place. One right by the front door. One time I went there and there was a rat sticking out the opening. six weeks later the same rat still in there!

2 pointsHey, Bob. Sorry to hear you had such a rough time. I had something similar, but not quite as involved. Had 6 hours on by pass for open heart surgery. I later read the surgeons report, and it scares me when I read the details. I guess God still had plans for me to help my children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren. Sounds like God still has plans for you also. Keep on moving, even though we all move slower than we used to. Jim

2 pointsSD or RD ? I don't like the RD on a hydro due to the grass collecting and clogging the cooling fins on the pump. When the grass is heavy, I like to windrow with the SD and collect it with the sweeper. 42 or 48? The 416 is capable of turning either in normal height grass. The 48 may tax the 16HP in the heavy tall grass. I like my 48 when mowing around the pasture fences. Better to trim under the wire. and I use the 48 later in the summer when the grass is not so heavy. I like the 42 because there is less scalping on hilly and uneven areas and it does a better job in early spring when the grass is heavy. If I could have only one deck, it would be a 42" SD.

2 pointsI don’t normally enjoy energy drinks… just coffee. This guy here got me through the long drive day and no shut eye in the stand! Woah! Ryan and Brody drove down with us. They noticed my real nice hat and that I was the only one who made their bed yesterday. They are all kinds of superstitious today… making their beds and rubbing my hat! I’ve got my deer head prepped for travel, not being able to transport the brain over state lines. Today, I’ll be grinding meat and packaging it too. It’s fridged cold out there this morning, we’re not used to this much wind! I’m glad to be in a shed with a heater for processing. Then, I’ll be looking to go find me a doe.

2 pointsDid that today, walked into the shop and smelled gas. The fuel hose on one of my was weeping a few drops of gas. Usually I would have just done the replacement in the shop and covered the spill with oil dry but today I moved it outside (in spite of freezing temperatures) and did the job out there. Washed the gas off the floor with purple power and washed the area where the gas had dripped on the axle before bring it back inside.

2 points@ri702bill NICE ! THATS WHAT I,M TALKING ABOUT ! just a little tweaking on an issue , that plastic sheeting is the deal to cut out and work with . better watch out , now that you have done that , you might get the WHAT IF ? thought going . know what you did , lots of stuff I do is related , to a fairly simple issue . like the easy way things can work , what's next ? thanks for the shout , pete
