Need a little info today. The wealth of knowledge on this site is fantastic. I'm pulling my oldest W/H out of storage and want to fire it up so I can eventually list it for sale. What kind of oil was used in the belt driven hydraulic lift pump? I want to make sure it's full before I operate it. It worked when I put the tractor into storage, some 25 years ago. Did they use tranny fluid? If memory serves me right, I believe it had a red colored oil in it. Thanks, Bill

I worked for our town half a day early shift, 7-11:30. Voted before I left. Going back for 8 to count.

Voted last week. It's about a 30 minute drive to the County court house, but a nice ride. We don't like "crowds", although with only 2 voting booths and a fairly low population, I doubt it's much of a crowd even today.

I did not either Ollie Not the best pic of it. On the right side lower hood stand. Sure looks like a cut off 400 plate to me. If I'm not mistaken they were on a sticker just forward of the hood stand on the top of the frame. Kev @Pullstart you get a chance get a pic of the one on Ryleo's 401.

The Ponds were very thrifty but I had never heard that little tidbit.

Just an FYI, On some of the early 1961’s the Ponds used up the left over 1960 Suburban 400 serial number tags. They just cut off the Choke and Throttle part of the tag. So if you don’t find a regular looking tag, look around for a small tag, possible screwed on the hood stand.

I used cast iron dexter shorty hubs and put 3.75-12 steel wheels with 5.00-12 tri-ribs on the front and IntercoInterforce 30-10 x 12 rear AG tires

Have you seen a Peerless 700 series gearbox? About the same size. They were 90 degrees 3 4, or 5 speed with reverse. One of those coupled with the WH 8speed would be quite an animal with the correct pulley sizes. A gear ratio for every occasion, and then some.

I’m going to have a look at a c-140? 1977, tomorrow. I’m not finding much information on this, I’m thinking it could be c141. Seller said it runs, shifter needs work, 44 inch deck and a snow blower. I’m guessing it is worth a few hundred asking price. I think i have room for one more

I kind of found the answer to the Key length , original part number 6507 , new part number 105453 , saw a picture on Partstree , looks like about 3/4 inch in length. Guess I will go hunting at a hardware store. It is a special order at parts tree and $3.04 each. That is crazy!

Mounted a slow moving vehicle triangle on my caboose for the SL&WHN RR. It's in addition to the blinking red led lights... Lousy pic - forgot to take it before I put it in storage...

Car started like a champ, after another hour or so on charge. Not a hesitation. Deck not on the bench, who was I kidding. Not a prayer I can get it up there on my own, and no point asking Mrs S to help, lol. It is leaning against it though, and I have the blades off, so I can manage with it there. Blades are all 13-7/8" long, with 3/4" centre holes. Shown below is a typical blade edge. Won't need much doing to them other than the removal of a little grasscrete. It seems amazingly sharp to me. That's looking right down on it, and you can see how good it is. It actually feels sharp to my fingers. As I said, they all measure 13-7/8" in length, with a 3/4" hole, and I have found a replacement mulching blade in stock in the US at least. No luck in the UK yet, but I'm still trying. This is the US one I found, just to check you all agree it's the right thing. I've sent them a message to see if they will ship to the UK, and how much that will cost, in case I get no good responses from the UK suppliers. Best laid plans, and all that. I have an old car that I intend to do up. It is a runner, but it hasn't been run for too long now, and it wouldn't turn over. That car is in the garage, right next to the deck, and until I can move the car, the deck will remain trapped. The car has been on charge for a couple of hours now, and even with the charger on 'fast charge with start' it won't turnover enough to start. It is turning over though now, so we're getting there. I only have it on normal charge, in between attempts, so as to not hurt the battery, any more than I already have, by having let it drain too far. I had intended to keep going in and running it, regularly, but you know how it is. Don't really want to drag the car out, as it would be much harder to get back in, with it being up hill on the way in. I did manage to remove my dozer blade attachment, and put my lawn wheels back on the horse though, so not entirely wasted afternoon. I was intending to get the deck on the workbench though. I did try to lift it out, but damn, that thing is heavy, so I decided on patience. If the car doesn't start, I will tow it out with the horse, with the car hand brake on a little, so it will stop when I stop, when I get on the downhill stretch, outside the garage.

The first time I saw one of these was in 2016 when I was helping a guy with 4 Wheel Horses and didn't know anything about them. A blade like this was on what I called a Frankenhorse. He also had a 701 that I hauled to the big show for another member. I told him the blade wasn't a Wheel Horse blade but something modified to make it work. Fortunately the guy who bought the 701 ended up with the blade and I done educated myself on them. They are certainly cool Lane. Both of those tractors in the picture ultimately were given to me. One was a 657 and one was an Indy 500 Special.

That's interesting to read that they actually do a great job. I have tried and tried to find a UK source of a mulch equivalent, for the 106636 set, and so far no luck. I've emailed a couple of suppliers, so I'll see what they come back with. The size, by all accounts is 13-7/8". I'll confirm that on the bench this afternoon, when I get it up for a little TLC.

Yes, it is the 42", according to the manual I found in here, and my vague memory. I'd still like mulching blades, but I'll give it a go as is. Thanks for the reply.

Nice to see the same equipment in action. Thanks for the pictures. I think I'll just try the normal blades, for now, and see what degree of mulch I get. As I mentioned, my current mower gives little to none, but there seems to be a consensus building that normal blades with this deck do a pretty good job.

Here’s another one

On my wheel horse with leaf vac set up I use just my normal mower blades. They work great to mulch up the leaves and cut the grass. But the blade style that @Snoopy11 shared with you at the beginning of this post are what we run on all our commercial mowers at work. They work amazing and the leaves that you are chopping up will be fine little pieces.

I have this same snowplow . It is a BD-6242 and that’s the number to look for in the manuals section for a copy of the attachment manual. I have used the same rear hitch on the plow and it works fine. Bob and Ed are correct that it orignal used a different rear hitch set up with longer angle iron pieces. The pivot handle and foot pedal on right are pretty neat features! I have used on my brothers 633, my 854 and my 701 and 702.

Just take the cylinder and your snap ring pliers to Ace Hardwar or Napa and they will help you out. Be sure to install the snap ring with the square cut side out, the other side is slightly rounded and won't hold as well.

The original # 18 is OEM part # 4899 as shown in earlier 'Clutch Pivot Arm' shcematics... I have one for $32...shipped. I am trying to verrify that the part# of your 312-8 (105896) is the same item. .

They just needed a lead horse to show them where to go.
